“Worse stay I have ever had at a Starwood Hotel. Room looked old, dirty, with mold in the tub. The lobby was cold, and had no appeal. General Manager should be embarrassed! This should not be a Westin Hotel.”

• Include a voucher for parking or equivalent...quite pricey

“Loved our experience. My in-laws liked their room. Clean and really comfortable. The Westin litte extras; like free drinks and apples at reception also bottled water in rooms. Small details really helped making our stay enjoyable! The bed at the Westin is totally the best, I travel for business and sleep in hotels 2-3 nights a week, this hotel is really oriented to customer satisfaction! Thank you!”

• The location was easy walking to everything.
• Didn't have kids club packs, decor was too modern almost sterile.

“They charge $20/day for parking even if you are a guest at the hotel. The pool was only 5'6" deep. They have a Westin kids club, but rarely have the activity packs according to the staff, and have to be reminded to send up the milk & cookies at night.”

“Friendly staff and lovely atmosphere with a great pool and free boarding pass printing. The only reason I didn't give it a higher mark than I did was because #1 - the television didn't work, #2 - the fan in the bathroom didn't work, #3 - there wasn't any literature explaining check-out, the TV, or the pool. When I called down however, the staff was helpful and assistance was immediate. These things are bound to happen, but they really should be checked before new guests check in.”

“It is certainly not a 4-star hotel. It is more like a 1-star. We have stayed in 2-star hotels that are much better than the Westin Inn in Calgary (the Marriot Fairfax Inns 2-star for example). The Calgary Westin Inn room was scuffed with dirt marks. The wallpaper was peeling, discolored and dirty. The bathroom did not appear clean and was worn out and had bits of hair here and there. The carpet seemed clean but judging by the rest of the room, it was a shoes on at all times kind of a room. We were in a non-smoking room and the hall smelled of stale cigarette smoke and around 10:00 pm, the smell of cigarette smoke was coming inn through the vent. My last 3 experiences with Calgary Hotels were quite bad and the worst hotel experience in my life was a Travelodge in Calgary South. The Westin wasn't nearly that bad, was barely worth the $ plus taxes etc, but is certainly not a 4-star hotel, not a 3-star hotel, and not even a 2-star hotel. Beware.”

“I was on the 6th floor, right directly across from the elevator. Could not only hear all the noise from the elevator but also from the street and I would say the room was the smallest they had. Next to perhaps a broom closet. Was not very impressed. Would likely not stay there again.”

• There was not an ice machine on our floor (5), had to go looking for one found it on the 8th floor.

“Great hotel for the price. Only problem was parking it cost a fortune, plus had to tip the valet every time we got the car in/out. The room was nice, bed was ok, did not have the heavenly feel. You could hear all noises outside. But it was a nice hotel I would stay there again.”

• It was inexpensive, rooms was neat, hotel staff was great.
• I found the lobby dimly lit, and not as attractive as it was several years ago, needs color and lighting.

“I found the staff very helpful. The room was fine, lacking color but clean and tidy. The parking and access to downtown were perfect. The recommendations by the staff for restaurants turned out to be perfect.”

• For a 4 star, the room was just average.

“We loved the location, within walking distance of restaurants, awesome mall and there was a food fest going on 2 blocks away. The staff was very professional. The manager noticed I was searching for something. I asked if there was a vending machine for water and he apologized and said there wasn't. So instead, he went into his own office and gave me a few bottles. It's little touches like that, which will keep people coming back!”

• The view of the big building were great for my boyfriend whose from UK and its location was in a great place.
• After 1 nothing around the area was open to eat and the hotel menu didn't have much of a selection.

• The parking charge of $20+ per day seems a bit much. The room we received was right beside the elevator shaft.

“This is a good hotel for a business traveler. It is an older hotel with small rooms and modest public areas. It is not in my opinion luxurious or deluxe and deserves 3*. It does have a good location in downtown and clean, comfortable rooms.”

• I went to use the sauna but it was not working.

• Sauna was not working, $19/day weekend parking, small rooms.

“I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights with my parents. We stayed in a standard 2 double bed room in the old tower. The room was small (no smaller however than the brand new Marriott Edmonton) with older architecture but has been kept in good shape. The beds are comfy and clean. I like it when I can keep the comforter/top cover on the bed rather than throw it on the floor for fear of unsanitary aspects of the previous user in a hotel where they don't clean that part of the bed. LG LCD flat panel TV. 2 telephones was interesting, one on the desk and one by the bed - kind of silly in a small room where you're never more than 3 meters from the phone no matter where you are. The bathroom was nice - curved shower curtain bar, clothesline, magnified mirror, big towels, nice shampoo, conditioner, body cream and mouthwash. The hot tap leaked water when you turned it on. The pool was nice being on the top floor - great view especially at night. The gym was small but fine if there are one or two people in there. It has a water cooler and chilled towels - nice! The hot tub was off limits the first day we stayed but was running the second night. It is awesome that the top floor is 24 hours. The pool and hot tub were the most perfect temperatures I have ever experienced at a hotel. You go downstairs for the change rooms with separate saunas (neither sauna worked both nights). The change rooms don't seem to be very nicely designed for that whole building only being about a year old. Overall, the hotel was somewhere between a great 3 star and a so so 4 star. The Sheraton Suites Eau Claire is a much better hotel in many ways but we did enjoy our stay at the Westin.”

“Some parts have been recently renovated, others still under construction. Some rooms in one section of the hotel are newer than the other section. Hotel staff are good and valet is fast but expensive. Good Location. Lots of rooms here.”

• Free upgrade to a huge junior suite, early check in, friendly.
• The redecorated lobby.

“The only reason the hotel is likely the #4 hotel in downtown Calgary. The rooms though redone still feel a little older. That being said the staff is friendly, it is clean, they upgraded us and accommodated early check in. It was terrific. If traveling with kids stay away from Joey's in Eau Claire. They left several of us family types sitting at our tables without service for 15 minutes waiting of us to leave.”
