• The front desk made all of our reservations for us from restaurants to the opera. He was exceptional.

“The hotel is in a EXCELLENT location. Rue St. Paul is two blocks away from the front doors. It is situated in Old Montreal which is where (as a tourist) you want to be for shops, restaurants, some cool music venues and museums. The wine and cheese hours (at the hotel) are a nice treat. The hotel also has a highly recommended spa with services from massage to microdermabraision. Its called Rain Spa and is well worth booking a appointment.”

• The location of the hotel and the modern design of public sites.
• The rooms are too small and dirty.

“I had to wait a couple of hours to have the check-in done and the accommodation was not comfortable. The housekeeping service was not efficient and in all corridor of the rooms located in block 1 there was a persistent stink of cooking.”

• A great hotel for the Old Montreal area.
• You could hear some of the truck traffic from the 2nd floor.

“The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was very nice with charm and character (loved the wood floor). We had a corner room on the second floor with a beautiful view. The only draw back was that we could hear some of the louder truck traffic in the morning from the level we were on. The bathroom was nice and spacious. The bed was plush and comfortable. It was a weekend, so we weren't able to eat at the rooftop restaurant - completely full. It seemed to be a hot spot. We found the location very convenient for the sights we wanted to see in the Old Montreal section of town. I would definitely recommend it.”

“We stayed at the Hotel Place D'Armes for our honeymoon and had a great time. Little touches like chocolate covered strawberries left in our room and wine and cheese each afternoon made the stay truly special. We stayed in the simplest room, but it still felt luxurious. The staff was super helpful and went above and beyond to make our trip great.”

• The amenities in-room, from the bed to the spacious and luxurious bathroom, were unexpectedly luxurious.

“This is an upscale hotel with fantastic service and great attention to detail. The suite was perfect for our honeymoon, and the location of the hotel was the ideal point of departure for adventures throughout Old Montreal and beyond.”

• The staff and atmosphere.
• Lack of pool and poor gym equipment.

“The staff was great and I would go back. I would prefer to have had a better gym experience. The equipment was moderate quality though the facility was keep clean and in order. Also the size of the gym was smaller then my hotel room. The overall appearance and atmosphere of the hotel is great.”

• Didn't feel like you were at a hotel, smelled wonderful when you stepped through the door.
• Nothing!

“This was one of the best hotels I ever stayed at, with a very reasonable price tag. The room was large and was close to public transportation and nightlife. We could walk to dinner, bars and it had a great rooftop bar. There just isn't enough I can say about the hotel.”

• Staff was wonderful.
• Impossible to get air with all the cigarette smoke in public areas.

“Very nice but much worn out. Threadbare furnishings, lights burned out, terrible food, but a wonderfully responsive young staff.”

• Loved the spa, the bar, and the free breakfast.
• My room was a little small.

“Wonderful location, beautiful lobby. There was a great room with a fireplace and a pool table which was always empty. The room itself was nice with high ceilings, but there is no way the room was 300 sq ft as advertised. The bed was super comfortable but the furnishings were a tad worn. Housekeeping was okay not great but sufficient. We enjoyed the complimentary nightly wine and cheese, as well as the continental breakfasts. I would recommend this hotel for couples only; not family friendly at all.”

• Little difficult to find due to one way streets etc.

• The location is excellent, close to old town and the metro.
• Lighting, especially in the bathroom is dramatic but dim.

“As a sole female traveler, location is my first priority. This hotel was ideal, close to shops, restaurants, old town, and the metro. It couldn't have been better. My room was quiet, comfortable, and quite large, especially the bathroom. I liked having computers with internet access in the lobby, too. Breakfast was nothing special, but plenty to start the day and the coffee was good. There was some trouble with the door locks, but it was promptly taken care of. Plus, I had no housekeeping one day and newspapers, which are promised each morning, showed up only 3 days out of five. But these are small issues. Overall, I enjoyed my stay, would happily return, and recommend the hotel to others.”

• Fabulous food and concierge service.
• Thursday nights hotel transforms into loud music club, very disturbing.

“Hotel is perfectly situated on the corner of Place d'Armes square in Vieux Montreal. Also, 2 blocks away from Place d'Armes subway station. Room was gorgeous and clean, we had a two-level suite. Hotel staff was very helpful, courteous. Concierge made consistently strong recommendations for dinner and day trips. Noisy night on Thursday was annoying; hotel turns into a 20-something club on main level. AIX restaurant downstairs was wonderful. Wine and cheese at night was OK; cheese was average cheddar, and we had good wine one night and so-so the next, but Suite 701 where wine sessions as well as breakfast is held is very nice. Perfect location, truly.”
