• The room was clean and extremely comfortable.
• Tons of construction in and around the lobby and no free wireless.

“The location of this hotel is perfect. Close to shopping, close to Old Montreal, everything pretty much in walking distance. The room was very comfortable and clean but there was so much construction in the lobby I ended up waiting for a very long time to check out because there was no order in how people queued for check-in and check-out. There wasn't free wi-fi (shocking for this star level and in 2009) but otherwise I enjoyed my stay.”

• Rooms were well appointed. Nicely decorated, great view.
• Lobby was under construction. Very difficult to find from underground parking which was $19 / day with no in and out privileges.

“Great hotel, but parking prices are very high with no in and out. Hotel was under construction which was not clear when booked. I would go again after renovations are complete.”

• The renovated rooms are very nice & high tech.
• The hotel lobby, front desk and common areas are still under construction.

“The InterCon is a very nice hotel, and even better after the renovations. The staff is attentive without being intrusive. The room amenities included an iPod docking stereo, 40+" flat screen TV, safe and mini-bar. The only issues were the mini-bar auto-charges the room if an item is moved, and the wireless was so bad that I plugged in the cable.”

• The room was spacious, beautiful, my children loved it.
• Pool as a lap pool therefore did not seem suitable to take my children.

“The room was beautiful the employee. We dealt with on check in Oliver professional, helpful and enthusiastic. However we wanted old Montreal and this was more of the business district, difficulty finding reception but they were under construction.”

“Hotel is renovating. They had a make shift lobby which was completely unprofessional and inappropriate for a 4 star hotel. The line up to check out was ridiculous. To be honest my overall experience with intercontinental is poor. If I had a choice of hotels I would not choose to go to intercontinental again. In fact I believe the experience as well as the price would have been better if I had chosen a 3 star hotel.”

“Intercontinental is wonderful hotel, I have now stayed here 3 times. Hotel is going through major remodeling that should be complete July 2009. Remodeled rooms are fantastic and once lobby is done I am sure it will be good to.”

• Couldn't provide early check-in, was under renovation, would have preferred 2 beds.

• The room was large.
• It was a construction site.

“We were unfortunately very disappointed with the Intercontinental Montreal. The hotel was a construction site and everything in and near the hotel was closed. It felt like a ghost site. Restaurants and shops in the hotel/plaza where the hotel was located was very empty. Not a good place to put visitors. The hotel is under renovation and that guests will be going through large hallways with cardboard walls.”

• The level of service from the concierge and front desk staff was outstanding.

“A well located first class hotel, close to the Montreal subway and old Montreal. My room was spacious with a very comfortable king size bed and nice view of Mount Royal. The service from the concierge was outstanding and the front desk staff was friendly and consistently greeted me by name as I went by after checking in.”

“Perfect for single traveler or couples. Excellent fitness club with pool and locker rooms. This is the ideal hotel for someone who appreciates luxury and upscale amenities without the ridiculous price.”

“The hotel was located next to a Metro stop, which allowed me to venture around the city. The inter-continental is at the edge of Old Montreal, bring your camera and allow yourself to discover this part of the city.”

“Front desk lady is rude/mean and not helpful. The request I made was accepted by them on the phone but was never done. I'd rather they declined my request than saying yes but ignore anyway. Definitely will not go back. Definitely way below 4 star hotel.”

• Great staff, great location, quiet rooms.
• Mattress left something to be desire, parking fees at hotel were expensive.

“Great location, well trained staff, hotel was very clean, parking was a little bit expensive in my opinion, difficult to navigate your way back to the hotel lobby after parking in the subterranean lot. Need more signs! Mattress was cheap and not comfortable. Sheets were great though!”

• Kind of out of the way, horrible mattress, bad view (of other rooms).

“We stayed here for a get-away weekend from the Boston area. Nice hotel, but not as nice as I'd expect for 4-stars. Mattress was horrible (mushy, no support) and the TV was teeny, but desk was fine and room was otherwise comfortable, if a bit shabby. Room looked across atrium to other rooms, so no privacy/view. But great breakfast and very helpful staff.”

“The location is ok, not great. Certainly the immediate neighborhood is not upscale. The hotel was packed and they were having trouble with the AC. We slept in a hot room, they tried to fix the AC but could not, ultimately gave us a fan.”

• Poor quality TV, poorly set up to view while in bed.

“Helpful maintenance staff - repairs to lights, etc. The hotel was very nice and had lovely banquet facilities. 2 wedding receptions were happening at the same time - very impressive.”

• Pro tennis players were staying there.
• Expensive water in the room.

“It was okay. Should be better. Absolutely outrageously priced water and other sundries in the mini-bar. $8.50 for a bottle of water is outrageous and spoiled my view of the entire hotel stay. They couldn't be interested in customer satisfaction charging so much. Internet was very expensive, too, as was parking.”

“Bed was ok but had a separate 'pillow top' under bed sheet. This moved around during the night. Not expected when Marriott has real 'pillow top' mattress. Washroom was large and clean. Central location but not near anything, in the suburbs of the old city. Fast friendly check-in.”

• The room was gigantic.
• The parking cost $26 per night.

“This hotel was in a great location with wonderful facilities. Access to the Metro was very close by, as was the Contemporary Art Museum. Everyone was very friendly and helpful.”

• The bed was so mash mellow-y soft and lovely. The place was gorgeous.
• The staff was not warm and/or friendly at all.

“Beautiful location and building, a melding of old Montreal charm and architecture to modern elements this hotel was gorgeous and convenient in every way. The staff seemed preoccupied most of the time and uninterested in service. The rooms were exceptionally appointed and the bathroom spacious.”

• Large bathroom, Wonderful beds.
• Dated bathroom.

“My 13 year old daughter and I stayed here for one night. I felt very secure in the area around the hotel and we could walk nearly everywhere. The room was lovely and large. The bathroom was in need of updating but still featured a separate shower and tub and was very nice.”

“Situated in the center of Business District and next to the convention center, it is perfect of business or convention visitors. There is not much atmosphere immediately surrounding the hotel. It is about a 15 minute walk to the better shopping areas on Rue St. Catherine and a similar distance (other direction) to Old Montreal. There is also a Metro station just a few steps away. The room was fairly well appointed. $15/day for internet browser access is ridiculous, but the goods news was that the hotel's firewall let my notebook PC connect to my corporate email server, so I could use email, and it also allowed Skype without the connection fee. Just no free browsing.”

• Beds were very comfortable which is a definite plus for any traveler.
• When you first walk in through the main doors, there was a weird odor but only in that spot.

“The hotel was more then what my girlfriend and I had expected for the price. The bed was very comfortable and the room in general was spacious and clean. I could not hear anything from the neighboring rooms or hallways which also is a plus. The 1 pm check out time is great. Room service is very expensive so I would suggest not to eat there if this is a leisure trip. For a business customer you might be able to write the expenses off (although my company would never allow to spend that much for dinner). That said, it is an upscale hotel that I would go back to time and time again.”

“This place was pretty nice. Good location near every thing. People there were nice. Only thing that was terrible was the prices they charged for the food in the room and we couldn't use the fridge. Thought we might get charged.”

“Despite it's size, this hotel has managed to personalize service and to give to guests the kind of warmth, attention and excellence usually found in smaller charming establishments. The bed and bathroom are exceptional in comfort, size and cleanliness. It was a pleasure to stay here.”

• Inadequate parking area for check-in or drop-off/pick-up. Never any available space.

“Nice hotel, although I prefer the Sherbrooke area. We had to stay in a room that had previously been a smoking room and that was unpleasant, especially as the windows did not open. However, the room was large and nicely furnished, with very comfortable bed. Also, the room climate control worked very well and was easy to use. However, wallpaper was peeling in a couple of places the bathroom, showing black mold, which is definitely not what I expect of a 4-star hotel!”

• Its proximity to Old Montreal - I'm from Montreal and this location is perfectly located as a central point to everything!
• Nothing to tell - it was fabulous!

“Being from the suburbs of Montreal, this was a great experience being a tourist in my own town. This is a very nice hotel and located in an extremely convenient spot. It's beautiful, inside and out. Old Montreal is a block away and shopping and events are just a few blocks in any direction.”
