“Good for honeymoon location. Hotel is very clean and staff are very friendly. Find out the additional charges.” Sep 1, 2009 by
Norma from Isabela,PR
“People at the hotel were friendly, my kids enjoy the pool and the movies at the hotel. The beach was great.” May 19, 2009 by
Shawn from Bear,DE
“Loved hotel overall. Great, relaxing vacation. Close to a lot. Don't miss the biobay kayak tour. Excellent concierge desk.” Apr 22, 2009 by
Melissa from Lawrenceville,GA
“This hotel is a great location for a vacation at the beach. The housekeeping kept the room tidy. Overall, we enjoyed our vacation at the Wyndham but the parking was a bit expensive at $15 per day and a little inconvenient.” Apr 20, 2009 by
Azalia from Maywood,NJ
“The food was very over priced. There was no refrigerator in the room or DVD player. The positives were, the resort was close to the beach, The staff was friendly. The rooms were clean. It was very inconvenient having to go to the front of the hotel to get your parking ticket validated then walking across the resort, down to the Garage to get your car. The process takes 15-20 min before you actually leave the resort.” Mar 19, 2009 by
Diane from Grand Rapids,MI
“Great place to relax and enjoy the resort. Rooms are wonderful. Lobby areas are beautiful. Beach is great but could be dangerous with the shorebreaks. Liked having free internet in the lobby.” Mar 9, 2009 by
Michelle from Saint John,Canada
“We loved this hotel. The grounds and rooms were clean and well maintained. The pool is OK but the beach area was amazing. Staff were friendly and helpful.” Feb 25, 2009 by
Valerie from Coral Gables,FL
“The Wyndham Rio Mar is a great hotel to go to if you are trying to get away from the hustle and the bustle of the Metro and City area. It is just across from the National Rainforest and right on the beach - so whatever view you get - it is splendid. If you are looking for a place to rest and un-wind this is the best place to be. Note that the transportation to and from the airport will be about 1 hour though - so plan ahead. Once you get through the crazy and crowded highways of Puerto Rico (something to write home about) - you will be enchanted by the views of the rain forest and its neighboring golden beaches. I recommend this for business travelers as well as I was able to peek through the meeting room floor(s). Very well equipped hotel for meetings, but also if you are looking to spend time with your family (a kids pool separate from the adults) and/or as a romantic get-away.” Sep 11, 2008 by
Angie from San Juan, PR
“Rio Mar is an amazing resort. Beautiful landscaping, really nice beach and great pools. Very relaxing atmosphere. Staff was always helpful. An ocean view room was very spacious, and the beds were incredibly comfortable. The room was very well kept. They provide many amenities and entertainment. I'm definitely recommending it and can't wait to stay there again.” Aug 21, 2008 by
Jason from Shoreline, WA
“The location is great. And according to the management team, Ant colonies in the room are to be expected. So, just make sure you don't set your expectations too high and you'll be fine.” Aug 18, 2008 by
Christa from Palmharbor, FL
“Even though the beach was very nice we did not like that the hotel tried to charge for many things like laying in the hammocks or sitting under the cabanas ($150 per day). There were also no vending machines in the hotel so without a car you have to pay the very high prices at the bar and at night you could not get anything. Also the kanu rentals were absolutely expensive. Over all if we would not have rented a car we would have not enjoyed our stay.” Aug 11, 2008 by
Tom from North Haven, CT
“Check in was a snap. The room was well decorated and very comfortable. Service in general was excellent. Beach and pool facilities were superb. Two 18 hole golf courses on site. All round an excellent stay. Highly recommended.” Jul 28, 2008 by
Molly from Avon, OH
“Overall everything was excellent. I think the hotel parking needs a lot of improvement. I would say everything is accessible except the parking. The parking elevator was not working one day either. Other than that I would stay again!” Jul 23, 2008 by
Roslyn from New York, NY
“The Wyndham was really a great hotel. The facility was well maintained and the staff was courteous. I would most definitely stay there again.” Jul 16, 2008 by
Lillian from Orlando, FL
“Didn't like the charges for parking 20.00 a day, $2.00 min for local phone calls, $15.00 a day for internet service. Food is too expensive.” Jul 14, 2008 by
Leon from Brooklyn, NY
“NA.” Jul 7, 2008 by
Lourdes from San Juan, PR
“Excellent experience with the hotel stay. Friendly staff, quick check in-out, absolutely comfortable room.” Jul 2, 2008 by
Nelson from Norfolk, VA
“We were pleased to find the hotel was very nice and it really is prepared for all types of ages. I hope that in couple of years we can repeat this vacation again.” May 30, 2008 by
Luis from Phoenix, AZ
“Excellent resort facility and guest services as well as amenities.” May 30, 2008 by
Don from Sugar Land, TX
“Great location, friendly staff, good food.” May 27, 2008 by
Julie from Chicago, IL
“Suited us just fine!” May 25, 2008 by
Donna from Norwich, ON CA
“Beautiful place if you like big resorts, casinos and crowds. Nice beach but is a public access beach and busy. We were looking for luxury but with a laid back atmosphere; this place was too formal for our style.” May 24, 2008 by
Ameet from Atlanta, GA
“Overall great experience. Lovely service. Great room. Great location. Food and parking can be less expensive.” May 18, 2008 by
Mar from Littleton, CO
“I had a great time. The bathrooms definitely need to be remodeled. The price of the room did not include a resort fee. I recommend renting a vehicle to do any activities. Its easier and cheaper to just drive yourself to Old San Juan and to the Rainforest. The hotel restaurants are very expensive! Drinks are very expensive. 10-15 dollars for one drink. The hotel staff was very friendly and very helpful on providing driving directions to areas around town. Great beach location. I enjoyed my stay. I would go back. There were conventions going on and I know the business people seemed to enjoy themselves also.” May 14, 2008 by
Luis from Toa Alta, PR
“I'm a local that has visited this hotel for years. I am sure that this is one of the best and safest resorts in PR. The people are lovely, the area is superbly well kept and the service is ten stars! I have two youngsters and they love it too. A must-visit resort.” May 12, 2008 by
Laura from Boca Raton, FL
“Hotel hidden fees were not disclosed. Bed comforters were not upto scale for a four star hotel. Bed was sloppy. Food really expensive.” May 9, 2008 by
Harry from Loughman, FL
“Nice resort, nice beach, food was too pricy and not good; especially room service, poor quality, the hotel and its associates are nice! There is a hefty resort fee of 14% per night and 11% per night tax on top of your room rate, plus you pay for parking, self parking is $15 a day plus tax and its in a basement garage but overall its worth the experience.” May 2, 2008 by
Tony from Chicago
“This is now a Wyndham property, but things seem to be the same. This was a first trip to Puerto Rico. First of all, rent a car, if you don't you are stuck at the hotel and have to live with where and when they can take you and what they want to charge and be assured this hotel is all about the money! We Tried Ritchie's, right up the hill, it was the best view we had while eating and very nice, but I would not say the best food. We also tried Don Pepe's and Antojito's which are right by the resort and had excellent local food, they are right off of rt. #3 where you turn off to the resort. Also check out the Beachcomber for souvenirs, it is also right off rt. #3 where you turn off to the resort. They have really nice things made by local people for very cheap prices, not your usual tourist junk, right by Don Pepe's actually. If you want true local food head to the Kiosks in Luquillo east of the resort off rt. #3. Try any you want but don't miss #2 La Parilla?, really good food. Definitely visit El Yunque which is the Rainforest, it is right across the Hwy from the road to the hotel. Just drive as far as you can and then hike to the peak, it is the best view of the island you will ever see. Also, visit the Bio bay in Jajardo if you can, it is a night tour in a sea-kayak and the night we were there it was a truly amazing experience. Old San Juan is nice too for an afternoon or a day. I had a good time in Puerto Rico and I definitely plan to return, hopefully, I speak more Spanish then but it was fun because of the beauty, the food, the people and the experience. I have to say the only low point of the trip was my experience with this resort, I was at the desk daily to complain about something, usually monetary and was repeated lied to by them. The staff was great and very helpful, don't be afraid to ask them about local places and things to do, they were our best resource and probably the only reason I would consider returning to this resort other than being right on the ocean.” Apr 19, 2008 by
Bob from Idyllwild, CA
“Many improvements since Westin- would actually be 4 star if they improved the restaurant quality and consistency. Excellent staff even at restaurants.” Mar 29, 2008 by
Dave from New York, NY
“The prices here are outrageous and the quality of food at the restaurants is definitely sub par to a four star hotel. I've stayed in 3 star hotels in the Caribbean for much less, where the food was much better and the prices for various amenities were considerably cheaper. Breakfast at the restaurant is $25 for buffet style and dinner will run you about $100 for two with imported vegetables, imported fish and local beer at $10 a bottle.” Mar 24, 2008 by
Tamara from Barrington, RI
“Great beach-front accommodations, helpful staff, nice spa & gym. I found the concierge very helpful in arranging trips. I am glad we had a car. The restaurants were pricey and not impressive but there was plenty to do and see nearby. The sushi was good at the Shimas on site restaurant otherwise it was standard sterile American fare and we were looking for more local options which we found nearby. Overall a good time. I'd return.” Mar 10, 2008 by
Charlie from Chicago, IL
“Excellent location remote and private. Top quality site. Staff were top flight. Highly recommended.” Mar 1, 2008 by
Julia A. from New York, NY
“The workers in general were attentive, breakfast was excellent and clean. I did not like the house keeping approach at night time. Its seem to me they were inquiring about tip. As well the taxis services the hotel have they are too big-not green, does not have a company name. I felt unsafe about the taxi drivers. They over price more than 3 time. I went to san Juan because I have a family member that required open heart surgery. This why I stay in this hotel close to the hospital.” Feb 5, 2008 by
Dona from Charlotte, NC
“Out of 11 restaurants, only the 2 most expensive ones were open for dinner one night. But hotel took care of us by paying for a cab to go into town for dinner. Everything was kind of expensive. Hotel staff was nice and responsive.” Dec 31, 2007 by
Wendy from San Francisco, CA
“The grounds and rooms of the hotel were beautiful. They were the redeeming qualities of this hotel. The food and food service was horrendous. The immediate beaches and pools were filled with families (even the so called "adult" pool was filled with kids) I would never return to this hotel again. It may be great for families who enjoy over priced food and drink in exchange for a pretty location. It was just not our style.” Nov 23, 2007 by
Rafael from San Sebastian, PR
“The service in the Asian restaurant is like a fast food and is too expensive.” Nov 18, 2007 by
Sandra from Vega Baja, PR
“The Westin is a great place to go if you want to be away from the hustle and bustle of the city of San Juan. You are pretty far out if you need a taxi, so being prepared to pay a bit much. Also, you can't just walk out of the hotel. Anyway, so a car is a plus, many places outside of the hotel to eat great typical food for a lot less money.” Nov 7, 2007 by
Linda from Randolph, MA
“Nice hotel would stay again if traveling with spouse and no kids and if I don't plan on touring the island because most attractions and at least 40 minutes away.” Nov 5, 2007 by
Chris from Kenosha, WI
“This is a great hotel for vacationers, for families and couples who want to get away from San Juan into a beautiful location. It is too far for business travelers who have to work out of San Juan. Make sure you get a rental car. We would definitely go back.” Oct 2, 2007 by
Monica from Birmingham, AL
“Don't go during off season. Most of the restaurants were closed. All the "good" rooms were being renovated. The staff was not helpful with room change request. Go ahead and pay for valet parking - the hotel makes it next to impossible to use the self parking deck as the only elevator to the deck is rarely operational and the stairs were often locked. We received a certificate for a "free" massage from the spa on the evening prior to checkout. Turns out it was simply a ploy to require guests to sit through a 90 minute sales pitch for Wyndham Vacation Rentals. Do not be fooled into this! Overall, the hotel clearly has potential as the grounds were beautiful, the pool was great, and the beach was amazing. Would have been better during peak season though.” Sep 4, 2007 by
Heather from Cincinnati, OH
“My husband and I found this hotel to be an excellent location, close in proximity to the rainforest and San Juan. Would stay there again. Enjoyed the mountainside view of our room. Rooms also spacious!” Aug 29, 2007 by
Luz from Parlin, NJ
“Wow! This resort was everything I expect. The photos on the internet are exact. The hotel is very clean, the staff extremely nice, and the location is great for visiting the rain forest. El Yunque is across from the hotel location; however, I would recommend you rent a car to explore the island or visit the rain forest. I recommend this place however if you stay here and rent a car, ask front desk about renting daily because you will have to pay separate charges for the parking.” Aug 28, 2007 by
Sharon from Key Largo, FL
“They put us in the west wing of hotel which was very inconvenient (too far away from everything). If you have a bad back or need assistance walking, it is not a good place to stay. The grounds are very big, but beautiful. The manager was very nice and moved us to a beautiful pool side room near the lobby (I have a bad back, so she helped us out). However, The room smelled musty (furniture was damp). Restaurants were not open and no coffee in lobby for the am guests. Overall it was a nice place to stay, but not to eat. We found a beautiful 'roof top' restaurant close by. Fortunately we had a rental car; otherwise, we would have felt "stuck".” Aug 18, 2007 by
Jong from Gainesville, FL
“We couldn't sleep at all that night. Because we changed our room 3 times until 4:00 am. First room was lots of flea. Flea bites me a lot. So, I complained to front desk, but the staffs' response was so cold, without sincerely apologize, said "do you want to see a doctor?" very bluntly. I denied because I was so tired. Then, the staff gave us another room, and I checked the new room first before we moved our baggage. When I opened the room, I was so surprised because last guests were just left, I guess. Because in bathroom, used towels were stacked on the floor. After that, I went back to the front again; I explained the room wasn't ready. The staff just said sorry with terrible face and even a manager too. Finally, they provide us the high class suite but it was at 4:00 am and we were planned to stay a night. Even the suite was not that clean too. I could see lots of dirt on table. Because it was too tired to complain, again. We just gave up, seeing front staff. During a night, I went to the front desk 4 times after midnight. First room, an alarm clock was working and I asked to give us a morning call but the engineer came to the room to replace it, but my wife was taking shower. Anyway, the engineers tried to fix it for a while but they couldn't do it. So finally replace it. Until the time, my wife couldn't come out from bathroom. It was the worsted experience in the hotel I have ever.” Aug 15, 2007 by
Zonnia from Salisbury Mills, NY
“This was the best hotel I have ever stayed in. The rooms were big and beautiful, clean, and the bathrooms were wow. The beach was great and the pools were a great place to sun.” Aug 1, 2007 by
