“Just a great overall experience. The staff at the hotel were great and very accommodating and the butlers were fantastic. Breakfast in the morning was just a stone throw away from my Casita and the views oh the views of the ocean were the most amazing I have ever seen.” Jul 27, 2008 by
denise from new york
“I would not recommend this hotel for the average middle class traveler or for the elderly. While I am not cheap by any means, this hotel went far beyond my budget. A lot of walking is required and climbing stairs to get to various places in the hotel. There is even a tram to take you to different areas.” Jun 2, 2008 by
Bonnie from Atlanta, GA
“I enjoyed my stay and I will be back in the future.” May 22, 2008 by
Pedro from Deltona, FL
“Staff is very friendly. Anything we needed they tried to accommodate. Seen was excellent. Worth every dollar. Looking forward to returning to El Conquistador.” Apr 24, 2008 by
Daniel from Madison, CT
“Beautiful spot, loads of activities, interesting sites nearby, expect to spend a lot on meals, drinks, activities, etc.” Feb 27, 2008 by
Bobby from Spring, TX
“This hotel has a great view. But that's where the positives stop. Cleanliness and maintenance are poor. It needs paint, a mop, new furniture, re-plastering of its pools, etc. And the drink and food prices are the highest of all the places we've been in Puerto Rico, including the Ritz and the San Juan. I do not reccommend this hotel.” Jan 29, 2008 by
Beck from Brooklyn, NY
“Excellent hotel, but we got an upgrade to a beautiful room. So I cannot judge what a standard room is like, or what my experience would have been in a regular room. Staff was so helpful and friendly. I don't know why other reviewers complained.” Jan 27, 2008 by
Bryan R. from Virginia Beach, VA
“When staying at El Conquistador, you are paying for the public spaces and the overall setting, not for your room. Our room was filthy and even after 2 calls to housekeeping and a stop by the front desk; we finally cleaned the bathroom ourselves. It was totally unacceptable. That aside, everything else about the resort is 5 star and incredibly beautiful. I do recommend it; just bring your own rubber gloves and cleaner.” Dec 13, 2007 by
Ayash from Brooklyn, NY
“This place is like being in paradise.” Aug 31, 2007 by
Daniel from Bloomingburg, NY
“This hotel is way over priced for what it is. The food was not worth what you pay. The staff was snotty and a bit stuck up. The location was about 40 minutes away from San Juan. Where we went every night to eat and find night life. I would not stay here again.” Aug 25, 2007 by
Tom from Auburn, MA
“A terrific place just and all around jewel, so big if you want a small quaint place this is not for you but then again plenty of places to sneak off to and be alone trust me real nice if they would just come down to the real world with the price of food and drink.” Aug 15, 2007 by
Hilda from Alta Loma, CA
“My husband scheduled a spa for me and I was 5 minutes late. By the time I was ready for the message I lost 10 to 13 minutes and they would not make it up for me. I rated this poor customer service and not happy. I was lost in the resort and that is why I was late. We also had dinner at pool side restaurant and misplaced our cell phone and it was not returned. The next day at the same place we left my husband ray ban sunglasses and again they were not returned. The ground maintenance was not good at all. Trash was not picked up daily by pool, beach, hallways etc. Wall had leaks. The sink in our restroom was plugged for days. Overall, I was not happy and will not stay there again. I feel that we deserve a discount.” Aug 14, 2007 by
Subin. from Louisville, KY
“Located in Fajardo which is the Northeast corner. Close to ferry for Vieques and Culebra. Large conference facility however other than pools not much to do for a family outing with children (note plans to add water-park in 2008). Selling point is the private beach reached via ferry. Tip - avoid the seafood restaurant.” Jul 21, 2007 by
C from Los Angeles, CA
“I liked the hotel overall. However when I parked on the first night in self parking. It took them 30 minutes to send a golf cart down to come pick me up. In fact, they wanted me to walk up the hill with my heavy luggage at first, before I asked for a pick up by them. There are some things they are clearly missing. You would never find this behavior at a hotel in Las Vegas. However they did steer me to a great sailboat/snorkeling charter!” Jul 6, 2007 by
Linda from Maplewood, NJ
“I had a great time at the El Conquistador, as did my 8 year old! I would definitely return since I didn't have time to enjoy the golf or tennis that they offered. I thought the food was a bit pricey, i.e. $25 for the breakfast buffet, which is probably my only gripe. I also wish that the restaurants served more local Puerto Rican food.” Jun 27, 2007 by
Sonia from San Francisco, CA
“Hotel is a wonderful place to stay and relax. Rooms are nice and hotel staff is very friendly. Food and Drinks are over priced only negative about this hotel.” Jun 18, 2007 by
Nelson from San Francisco, CA
“Hotel staff was great. Price for food and drinks were outrageous. Rooms are beautiful and big. Overall the resort is a great place to relax and enjoy the sun and beach.” May 22, 2007 by
Dana from Toa Alta, PR
“That was my first time in the hotel. I love it. The view, the pools and the palomino beach its a the people that work there is are gentle persons. Great experience.” May 19, 2007 by
Michael from Dayton, OH
“A beautiful property that is in need of some upgrades. The public exterior hallways need new tile, some room furniture needs to be replaced, and beds are? Okay? But should be upgraded. Having said that, the resort is in the process of a major renovation and hopefully will attend to some of the details that detract from this being a true ?world-class resort?. Overall though, I believe most vacationers would be pleased.” May 14, 2007 by
Baby S. from Westfield, IN
“Not bad but pricey $4 bottled water and $17 bucks for coffee toast eggs and 2 pancakes. $8 drinks. It just adds up when you are there 4 days. Hotel is undergoing big renovation. I have been to better beaches for a lot less. You are captive to the resort. It is not like you could walk to the other restaurants.” May 12, 2007 by
Greg from Washington, DC
“Overall, we enjoyed our stay. The location is spectacular and the grounds are beautiful and well taken care of. However we felt like the food was mediocre for the prices we were charged - $15 for a sandwich and $10 for a Pina Colada ought to be better than they were. Also, we did not have one of the new upgraded rooms, which might have been nicer, but ours was dirty. The bathroom was dirty, under the couch there were crumbs of food, and we found stains and hair on the bed (not ours). ” May 9, 2007 by
Angel from Las Piedras, PR
“Pretty hotel, nice service, beautiful location, too expensive. I paid $50 for a breakfast with corn flakes and milk, it's ridiculous.” Apr 19, 2007 by
Michael from New York, NY
“We truly loved our vacation and our stay at el conquistador and look forward to returning at some point in the future. Our room was a little noisy (bugs, animals not sure and the workers in the morning tended to be really loud). But we did enjoy ourselves. Next time we will request lasso¿s bruises.” Apr 14, 2007 by
Gustavo V. from North Arlington, NJ
“I was not sure what to expect. I read many negative reviews, but everything was great. The only thing I did not like was the overpriced food. My friend and I drove out into town to eat.” Apr 5, 2007 by
Marc from Miami, FL
“Wonderfully located with gorgeous views. The highlight is the hotel owned island that can be reached by the own hotel catamaran that commutes every 30 min.” Apr 2, 2007 by
Michael from Ossining, NY
“At times the check-in line was very long. Some people had to wait close to an hour once they arrived at the front desk.” Mar 28, 2007 by
Andrew from Syracuse, NY
“It is a beautiful resort that is fully self-contained. The upside is you have to do nothing and everything is taken care of. The downside is that everything is overpriced and one does not experience Puerto Rico. It could just as easily be in Disney World.” Mar 21, 2007 by
Sean L. from Fairview, NJ
“The hotel was magnificent. It has one of the best views and scenery. It has its own private island for the beach, activities, etc. It's a good place for any occasion (family, romantic, friends, etc) they have great service and everyone is really friendly. Random employees of the resort would greet you from afar when I was on my balcony! The only thing I disliked was the price on food. A chicken Cesar salad was $17 and a hamburger and fries were $14. Each brunch/lunch will run you about $20-$25 per person, and dinner at one of the fancy restaurants is about $60-$120 per person.” Mar 19, 2007 by
Chad from Minneapolis, MN
“The overall experience for a resort was good. The ocean view was beautiful and the island beach was great. The food service was average and felt like the food was from sysco foods and the service was slow. I was disappointed that the elevators were continually failing. They didn't supply free coffee in the room but there was a coffee maker. Internet service was not free. Lastly the concierge/event service had very limited activities so I made arrangements through the internet and flyers I gathered from other hotels.” Mar 15, 2007 by
Rafi from Melbourne, FL
“I have stayed all over Puerto Rico and in this hotel many times. I can say that I have never been disappointed; it is one of the top 3 hotels in all of Puerto Rico.” Mar 15, 2007 by
Neil from New York, NY
“Everything about this hotel was great (except maybe the food). The views were amazing, the private island great and all of the staff eager to make everything about the stay great!” Mar 8, 2007 by
Jennifer from Columbia, SC
“Over all it was nice. Could have been better. Our room was not renovated yet and needed it. The air conditioner leaked badly. The carpet was soaked. We had to defrost our own mini fridge b/c of lazy staff. I would go back but stay in a different room. The food and beverages are way over priced. Go to Wal-mart. Parking is also a pain. Oh, something they don¿t tell you before you go - you can not have any coolers on the premises. We still used one, just hide it. Also, you can't take any food or drinks not bought at the hotel to the pool or island. They want to charge you an arm and a leg. $12.00 a pine colada beer is not much cheaper. Come prepared and you'll have a good time.” Mar 8, 2007 by
Anthony from Williamston, MI
“The room (their most basic) was large with some minor issues with the tile work. The views from the main areas (including the pool) were excellent. The private island had one of the nicest beaches in Puerto Rico outside of Venues, although getting there was a bit of a fiddle (which also made it a bit more private). The casino was tacky.” Mar 4, 2007 by
Joan from Florence, SC
“It would have been nice to have had a balcony to sit on in the evening.” Mar 2, 2007 by
Jp from Georgetown, MA
“Beautiful hotel with incredible private island beach. Would love to go back.” Mar 2, 2007 by
Luis from Fajardo, PR
“The resort is lovely and first class, when I arrived at check-in at noon time they did a pre-registration for me. They said there system was down (which I think was a lie). However, they told me to come back at 3:00pm which I did because that was there official check in time. They said the rooms were not ready. They said come back at 4:00, which I did. They said come back at 5:00 which I did. Finally at 5:30pm I was able to check in. It was funny that the housekeeper knocked on my door at 9:30 am during check-out day asking what time was I checking out. I wish they were that concerned about checking in the guests than they are checking them out. Everything else was excellent. They have a lousy, I mean lousy front desk. You all can go and check it out for yourself. By the way I stayed in room 3315.” Feb 23, 2007 by
Denise from Carteret, NJ
“Very nice resort.” Feb 23, 2007 by
Mahtab from Bethesda, MD
“There is a stark contrast between the rooms in the hotel, and the public areas and location. If you are not inside the room, you are in a piece of heaven. The rooms, however, are just horrible. Outdated, with nothing working, and extremely filthy. Simply shocking room conditions. There were too many broken lamps, phones, TV, etc. to list. Worse than the lowest level motel - but the lobby and public areas, pools, and location of hotel on the cliff are fantastic.” Feb 9, 2007 by
Mark from Alpharetta, GA
“Nice hotel and beautiful location. His hotel tries to nickel and dime it's guests with far too many crazy fees The casino isn't very friendly, they act like they are doing you a favor by dealing or helping you. The will need to improve before I return.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Jan 17, 2007 by

“We had a great family vacation at the el conquistador. The beach, pools, grounds etc. Are beautiful. The restaurants are good, but we thought the hotel needed an additional dinner option with a view. The best restaurants there are interior to the hotel and do not offer you the spectacular view from the hotel. The staff was helpful. We plan on returning.” 2 of 2 people found this review helpful.Jan 16, 2007 by

“We only stayed one night at this hotel and arrived late due to flight difficulties. The food was typical resort-expensive, as were fees to park. The rooms we stayed in were old, but were large and worked well for a family stay. There were plenty of shops and palomino island was very nice. Plan to stay at least 2-3 days if you choose this resort. The staff was very helpful, but there was a clear expectation of tipping for services.” Nov 12, 2006 by
Terry from San Diego, CA
“We traveled with a group of 7 persons to celebrate a 50th birthday. Had adjoining rooms on the waterfront. The hotel was fabulous and loved Palomino Island for snorkeling and water sports. The pools were outstanding, open 24 hours and Aqua Fitness was fun. The hotel restaurants were great, especially Stingray Cafe for seafood. There were also several local restaurants close by to sample the local food. Our room was in the marina which meant taking a funicular to our room. Took more time but was fun. On one day both funiculars broke down and we had to take a van shuttle but were repaired quickly. The rooms could have used a little repair. Door knob handles were loose, faucets leaked and curtains falling off the track but minor details. Had problem with toilet not flushing one day but the engineer came quickly and repaired it quickly. You need a rental car as the hotel is an hour from the San Juan airport. The tour to Mosquito Bay was well worth it. I would highly recommend this hotel and plan to return some day. This was a fabulous vacation.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Oct 20, 2006 by

“It took one hour to check in at one am. The coffee maker was broken and was not replaced.” 0 of 2 people found this review helpful.Aug 31, 2006 by

“Everything went perfect but the first day I asked if I can bring guest to the private island. The person in the Front Desk told to make arrangements with the Concierge. I went to that desk talk to them and they said the only thing I had to do is when they come to go to the Front desk and add the names that at least one was going to be part of my group and the other one maybe I had to pay. So I invited my brother when I go to give the names of my brother and my sister in law, the woman at the Front Desk told me that was impossible because of insurance reasons only guest can go to the Island. I told her that it was embarrassing that my family drove to far to come to the hotel and I cant take them to the Island . She was very negative but she went inside and talk to manager that never came out (seems very unprofessional) then she came out and said that the manager was going to let them go but she was charging me 40.00 per person, which at this point I agree to stop the embarrassment.” Aug 30, 2006 by

“The grounds were magnificent. The vistas spectacular. The staff most accommodating. The hotel itself was tired, it could use some updating - but then we spent little time in our room except to sleep.” 3 of 3 people found this review helpful.Apr 22, 2006 by

“A wonderful place for family reunions and honeymoons. we were there in December and returned in April with a family group because we enjoyed the scenery and facilities so much. palomino island has a beautiful beach. there are also day trips you can take to luquillo beach, vieques and culebra islands.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Mar 29, 2006 by

“Even though it is a convention hotel, the conventions did not get in our way and we really enjoyed ourselves.”
