“This is a decent overall hotel. The restaurant selections are lacking and the beach is not nearly as nice as the pictures lead you to believe.”

  • They could improve the variety of the food.

“I really enjoyed the atmosphere, views, staff and quality of rooms, service and organization. Very friendly, easy to navigate, amenities on site were good and had shops, car and tour services on site. Compared to other hotels we saw on the island, we were real happy to be staying at the Wyndham it compared much better.”

  • Atmosphere, friendly staff.
  • Too far from town, should have own shuttle bus to transport to town and back.

“Just returned from staying a week at this resort. Beautiful place with very friendly and helpful staff. Food was good but not a wide selection of entrees in the reservation only restaurants. I wasnt happy that we needed to make reservation days in advance. Beach, bar and atmosphere were topnotch. We had a problem with our shower in our room and had to call 4 times in one day for someone to come fix it. Also room wasnt equipped with an iron as it should have been and that took hours to deliver. But other than these 2 small problems our stay was fantastic and I would recommend this resort to anyone. Bring cab fare. Roundtrip into town for 1-2 people is $26.00 or 13.00 one way, very expensive Wyndam should provide a shuttle bus into town for guest a few times a day.”

  • Good activities. Good reservation restaurants.
  • Service Poor. Buffet horrible. Not enough bars or beach chairs.

“We expected the Wyndham name to mean quality, and this hotel is woefully lacking in that area. Not even considering the sewer smell from the sanitation area, overall there are just not enough people working there. The people they do have try to do their best, but it just seems mismanaged and stretched thin i.e. coming to clean our rooms at 5 PM, just as we are trying to change and shower before dinner, running out of food for lunch buffet and as a result half the resort flooding the snack area for burger and fries. Not only was it mayhem, but I can get that at home! I want Mexican food in Mexico, unacceptable. I didn't have one taco or enchilada the whole time. Buffet food was horrible. Drinks were weak and hard to obtain. All in all I would not return to this property.”

  • It's rather tight quarters for as remote as it is.

“This is a nice tourist class resort. They don't blow you away with quality, but it is clean, offers a fair amount of amenities, at a reasonable price. The staff was helpful for the amount of guest they were serving. It has a sandy beach, but you have to walk over coral in the shallows. It has one tennis court in fair shape, a sports court, and small workout facility with 2 treadmills and a few free weights. It is as relaxing as you want to make it. It reminds me of a Carnival Cruise ship on land.”

“My wife and I are members at this resort and it is a great place for us and our kids. I'm reading some of the complaints and I cant hold back the laughter. People come on this is Mexico get off your but and get some water from the main jug by the bar who cares! We get so used to our way of living and 2 when you are rude why some one should be nice to you. Every time we had a problem they fixed it. And yes you will have a problem at some point in time on any vacation just give them an opportunity to fix it. And oh yah I almost forgot we are in there country take some time to learn the language they will appreciate it. The staff is awesome give them a try you wont regret it. Lastly it is impossible to please everyone remember that.”

“Upon check-in we got a very tiny room located behind the main buffet restaurant. Very disappointed by the room itself. The food at the buffet was horrible. Upgraded at a cost of $55 per night per person to the much nicer Sabor section of the resort where everything from the room, pool, restaurants and bars were nicer. I don't think I would have tolerated my stay at the Wyndham without the upgrade. Once moved, we settled in and enjoyed our stay. And we are not picky travelers, but the main part of this all-inclusive resort was just not for us.”

“This property is nice looking, the grounds are pretty, but the hotel itself needs some renovating. Which I believe they are doing in phases. They provide one bottle of water per room, and then you have to refill it every day yourself. The refill "station" is one bottled water cooler for the whole resort.”

“I think this hotel should be rated higher then what it is. We would love to go back next year. The staff was a great help with everything and they did it in a timely manner. The activities staff was awesome. The show at night is not to be missed. The food was great but the food at the buffet was severed warm most of the time. The other restaurants had great food and it was hot because it was cooked to order. I would highly recommend this hotel. Great price great staff and clean friendly environment.”

  • It's a comfortable hotel, very clean and nice.
  • They didn't clean our room one day, and some of the staff members were not friendly or helpful.

“It's a nice hotel, with clean facilities, big, great pools, only it takes a long time to find something to eat or drink, and have to stick to the restaurants schedule (probably one of the first things you want to avoid during your holidays is to think about time tables) Drinks are awful, very cheap stuff, not even national (Mexican) low price drinks, just unknown mockup brands. We had to stick to beer and it was not good either. They didn't clean our room for one day and there wasn't any bottled water in it. One of the ladies at the front desk was rude and she didn't even apologize for not having the room cleaned. It was not a resort at all.”

  • Management staff was rude and inconsiderate.

“I stayed at the "Sabor" section of the Reef during May 11-14, it was awful. So bad they even tried to give me 1/2 on my next trip there. I told them I wouldn't go back if it was free. We never had drinks in our frig, the management staff was rude. One night we didn't even get to eat. Management has to make reservations and somehow it didn't happen. Even spoke directly to the same manager, he could have cared less. They would not serve room service because it was raining some. They told us they would bring us umbrellas so that we could walk to the other side (the family section) and eat at the buffet. We never received umbrellas. We paid for an all inclusive. Every time we asked for something, we never received it. It was a horrible experience. ”

“In may we will be going back to the reef club in cozumel for the fourth time. This year we debated over other destinations but in the end the wife and kids love the island, the resort, and all the employees. Once again we will be staying in the members section of the resort in a JR suite. Note: most of the people who complain about this resort typically stay in the hotel rooms. You will almost never hear someone who stayed in a JR suite or studio room complains. Last year and this year I purchased a time share week (VIP certificate) ahead of time from an existing member. On average we save a few hundred dollars using one of these member weeks. If you know anyone who is a member of the reef club in cozumel ask them to give or sell you one of their VIP weeks. ”

  • The plants around the hotel were nice.
  • I found the resort dirty, availability of bottle water and ice was very poor.

“I would suggest that you stay at a different resort if you would like to visit Cozumel. We did not like the fact that you had to beg for a bottle of water and then fill it up at the warm bottled water station. There was no way to keep any thing cold and ice was not always available, only when the bar was open. There was always a line at the bar to get anything ice, pop, or a drink. The staff was very slow and not very helpful at all. The maid would take the dirty towels but never brought clean ones back. There is a very bad sewer smell in parts of the resort depending on the wind direction. The brochure said they had nightly entertainment but there was never any information available as to what it was going to be or where. The taxi transportation was very speedy. A rental car would have been way cheaper. They didn't seem to have any standard pricing, what ever the driver felt like charging, they charged. The snorkeling and weather was very nice, the saving grace of our trip to Cozumel. I would definitely stay at a different resort if I ever visit Cozumel again.”

  • The staff was excellent and very helpful.
  • The Beach is not really what you would expect.

“Basically our group was all scuba divers. If you plan on scuba diving then this is a great resort to go to. STAY away from Sand Dollar and go with Emerald Dolphin Dive Services (987) 872-32-70. Sand Dollar was cattle boats and they had a lot of people to get on and off. No room for relaxation. Emerald is smaller but you are given one on one attention and the food was excellent. Anyway about the resort. The positives are the staff is friendly helpful. Our group tipped one or two bucks at dinner and left $2 per day for housecleaning. It never hurts to leave a little tip. Really they work very hard and for the few extra bucks I think they appreciated it. The rooms were pretty good. Cold and clean. The water in the shower comes out brown for about a second and then goes clear. The food was adequate. If you want 5 star dining then this is not the place to go. However if you are comfortable with buffet style okay food then no problem. The pools are okay, however, it seems like the filters did not run that much but nothing that awful. If you go to the swim up pool bar watch out. There are people that sit there for 5 hours and never move. A lot of people at the bar were obnoxious. The drinks were okay. Again nothing great. Rocks and seaweed. However if you just want to lay in a chair it might be okay. Just don't think you'll stroll down the beach without cutting your foot on the rocks. There is very little sand. Basically if you are a couple looking for a romantic get away. Don't go here. It is not worth it. My wife likes to relax and lay by the pool and beach. Both of these are not strong points. If you are scuba divers then this is the place to go to because you'll dive all day, eat, drink, lay around, and sleep. Basically you'll be so tired all the bad stuff seems trivial. ”

“We have been there twice in one year and found the place to be clean, the staff to be over all helpful understanding the language barrier. We are not demanding customers and travel a lot all over the world and find the food a little bit "different" Other guest are usually our largest complaint when we travel. Travelers feel that they must be rude and selfish in order to have a good time. We find this true just about everywhere we travel. pushy inconsiderate and ignorant. Enjoy the reef club for what it is. Dive, eat, and drink.”

“DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. If you do plan to stay at Reef Club, be sure to take an extra $200. According to the Dr. that had to make a house call to my room, he sees at a minimum of 1 person daily for food bourne illness... this is NOT travelers diarreah, these are "organisms" e-coli, salmonella at the worst. It's not the water it's the food left out for hours at a time in the "all inclusive" buffet..Worst 9 days of vacation of my life. ”

“Nice rooms, excellent kids activities, very clean.

Lots of underwater rocks at the beach, but good snorkeling.

Staff often rude or unhelpful: we reserved a restaurant for 8, got there 10 minutes late, were told we could not be served, then told we had to sit at separate tables on opposite ends of the room (even though only 2 tables were occupied), then asked to pay $30/person to sit at one table. All prices are in dollars, but change given only in pesos. You get one bottle of water per room, then expected to refill it. Child tore hotel's ID bracelet, tried to charge $2 for replacement. Mistaken(?) room charges for services never ordered or provided.”
