“Better than expected, great location, view on the parliament (for extra fee), friendly staff. Got an upgraded room for no reason!” May 24, 2008 by
Michael from Denver, CO
“This was a hotel that one could enjoy rather than pretend to enjoy because of its ersatz luxuriousness, as with most of the big-name luxury hotel chains. Hotel help were genuinely friendly and helpful rather than merely intensively trained, the feeling of the space was airy and bright rather than boxed-in, the general feeling was of elegant understated ness -- in other words, true elegance.” Apr 3, 2008 by
Manos from Dallas, TX
“Excellent location and very helpful and polite staff! Quiet and clean rooms with great Danube and Parliament views! Very nice art work all around the hotel! Convenient location for the traveler who likes walking but also there are trams passing in front of the hotel and the metro station is within a 5 min walk!” Mar 11, 2008 by
Rose from Dublin
“Staff was extremely rude, bordering on hostile! Location is beautiful, but you have to pay a premium for a room with a view. But nothing really to do at night. Rooms were clean but cramped. To top it all, they quote you a rate in Euros, and then overcharge you in Forint, as there is no facility to charge you in Euros - "their" exchange rate is HUF 270 to €1, the actual rate is HUF 259 to €1 - completely dishonest. Would not recommend this hotel and it is most certainly not a four star hotel.” Mar 11, 2008 by

“The Arto'tel is a nice hotel on the buda side of Budapest. It was great for the price we got it for 100 us a night. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful. One morning we had breakfast in the hotel because there was nowhere close by for breakfast, but they charged 12 euros a person for breakfast and it was not good. So I would not recommend that. Also, it was not the most conveniently located hotel for going out in the evenings. There were very few restaurants within walking distance of the hotel.” Sep 20, 2007 by

“The art hotel in Budapest is in a great location whether you are there for business or leisure. It is within short walking distance of shopping as well as historical interest. The restaurants located around it had a variety of food available and were really good and it wasn't horribly expensive to take a cab to when arriving at the train station.” Sep 14, 2007 by
Judith from Petoskey, MI
“Staff was generally rude. The internet prices are outrageous. I stayed at another hotel in Budapest which cost 25% as much and offered free internet. There is free internet in the "business center," but it is a single computer and there's always a line. For the price, there should be free Wi-Fi, or at least cheap Wi-Fi.” Sep 1, 2007 by
Ep from Torrance, CA
“Great hotel. It is close to Castle Hill and is accessible via Tram and Metro. Right next to the Danube River, so it has great views of the Parliament and the Chain Bridge. The staff is pretty helpful. The only downside is that the hotel does not provide free breakfast and charges 12 euros for its breakfast buffet. Since Budapest is an affordable city, you could grab breakfast for much less.” Jul 20, 2007 by
Jeff from Cambridge, MA
“Great find on the Buda side of the Danube. Perfect for sightseeing but you'll want to go out at night as much more affordable dining is available with a short walk.” Jul 18, 2007 by

“The Art'otel Budapest is located on the peaceful Buda side of the Danube. I requested a quiet room and was given a spacious room overlooking the inner courtyard and the hills of Buda extending up to Fisherman's Bastion and Matyas Church. The view out our large windows (which fully opened to let in a lovely breeze) was breathtaking. The staff was friendly and helpful and our stay was relaxing and memorable. We will choose the Art'otel if we are ever in Budapest again.” Jul 18, 2007 by
Heather from North Vancouver, BC CA
“The Art Hotel is located in a convenient area on the Buda side of the city. Budapest is a city where the public transit is very useful. The hotel is located a few minutes walk from a convenient underground station. The lobby and public areas are beautiful; it is very modern with lots of art around the hotel. I did not see the rooms in the tower but the room that we had the rear area did not seem like a 4 star. It seemed more comparable to a 3 star room. Not to say that we did not like the room. It had ample space, was very clean and cozy with its low slanting ceilings. The rear building, which housed the restaurant, is connect to the lobby in the main building via a glass covered walkway.” Jul 16, 2007 by

“As equal to Holiday Inn Express or Ramada.” Jul 8, 2007 by

“Excellent location, great view, attractive, contemporary decor, and comfortable room.” Jun 28, 2007 by
Barb from Georgetown, ON CA
“Excellent location - only 2 metro stops away from the centre square. The staff were excellent - very attentive and never mentioned . The hotel was immaculate - our room was nicely decorated in modern but not overdone style. Our only complaint was that the business centre that was advertised was really only one desk with one computer - so you had to wait for other users to finish with it frequently and since each room was given 30mins free everyday, the wait could be substantial.” Apr 19, 2007 by
Samuel from Victoria, BC CA
“Beautifully decorated hotel with European flair, staff seems friendly until you start asking silly tourist question, was told to take a city tour and don't be so cheap, asked for an adapter and gotten one that didn't work. Computer was "locked" one morning and staff didn¿t seem to know the pass word and seem annoyed. Two blocks from metro, nice view on the river. Close to most major attraction. Clean and well kept.” Feb 24, 2007 by
Luca from Perugia, AL
“It's in a great position. Has a unique charmer. Beautiful.” Feb 5, 2007 by
Charles from Niagara Falls, NY
“Clean, spectacular views and convenient to the metro and tram it¿s seemingly out of the way location is no problem if one knows how to utilize Budapest¿s public transport. Decorated tastefully with original art, but nothing spectacular.” Jan 16, 2007 by
Michele from Redondo Beach, CA
“Art hotel Budapest is a great hotel. It is right along the water near the chain bridge and under the castle, which are both stunning at night. The staff was superb.” Jan 5, 2007 by
John from Albuquerque, NM
“The hotel was clean, convenient, and stylish. My friend and I had good time and would stay there again. We were there during new years.” Jan 2, 2007 by
Evelyn from Beckley, WV
“Great view of the Danube and parliament - also close to a tram stop. Stayed there before - a little difficult for handicapped.” Dec 25, 2006 by
Ryan from Duxbury, MA
“Great hotel- good location directly on the river, walking distance to the metro, helpful and kind staff, excellent free buffet breakfast, great overall experience!” Dec 4, 2006 by
Bob from Purcellville, VA
“The staff and atmosphere at the hotel are wonderful. The location is wonderful, very close to the castle, fisherman's bastion and Gellert hill. The Parliament is right across the river, which is beautiful. The morning breakfast which was included was fantastic, typical European and very much enjoyed.” Sep 29, 2006 by
Patricia from Bethesda, MD
“A 20-30 minute walk to most of the major sites: St. Mathias church & the Castle district on the Buda side of the river; Vaci Utca, St. Stephen's and Parliament on the Pest side. And in the middle, the Chain Bridge - so beautifully lit at night. Not a warm and romantic hotel, but with a charm all its own - clean, efficiently run with a great free buffet breakfast, a nice bar and restaurant (with non-smoking areas) and complimentary use of the internet. For $105 per night plus taxes it helped make Budapest very affordable (as opposed to most of Europe these days!)” Aug 28, 2006 by
Alison from Philadelphia, PA
“I was very impressed with Artotel. As a former Budapestian returning to the city after 5 years away; I also was happy not to stay in a mega chain hotel. The staff was extremely accommodating and helpful, the design of the hotel was beautiful - featuring many original artworks; and a gorgeous cafe courtyard. The hotel is located in Buda about 3 blocks from the Batty any tar metro; or a 10-15 minute walk from pest via the lanchid (chain bridge) or margit bridge. Also, note fabulous included breakfast, even for those who get discounted room rates! Highly recommended.” Jul 17, 2006 by

“There is no way that this is a 4-star hotel. It does not have the amenities of a 4-star hotel. Further, it's location is far away from the center of town, which is certainly not ideal. The other members of my group stayed at the Marriott (also a 4-star hotel), which was far superior to this hotel. The showers were not even fully enclosed (glass sheet covering half of the width of the tub), which is typically a minimum requirement of a 4-star hotel in Europe. Hotels.com actually rates this a 3-1/2 star hotel. I would recommend making this a 3-star hotel as well as reconsider how you split up Budapest as it is very expensive to take a cab to Buda. ” Jul 17, 2006 by
Al from New York, NY
“I would not recommend staying here. Although it is near the castle, it is about a 15-20 minute walk from the city center. Cabbies are pretty shady in this city and will often charge 2-3x as much to cross the river into Buda if you are hailing one on the Pest side of the river, which is where most shops and restaurants are. Many sites rate this a 4-star hotel but I feel that it lacks many of the amenities that other 4-star hotels have. My friends stayed at the Marriott, which was much nicer. The showers are not fully enclosed, which is a necessity for a 4-star hotel. Stay at the Marriott instead....” May 22, 2006 by
Gladys from Long Beach, NY
“Interesting, attractive hotel, with generally courteous and professional staff. But not really a four-star hotel by international standards. I had a repairman working on the skylight in my room without warning while I was dressing in the morning. There is no absolute elevator access to all rooms but you must walk up stairs to get to some of them. A number of the personnel speak limited or no English. Also, very limited shopping, eating, and other services within walking distance - especially for older travelers. A pretty place, but I would not choose to stay there again.” May 16, 2006 by
Ray M. from Carlsbad, CA
“The hotel was ideally located with an excellent view of the Hungarian Parliament. The staff was very attentive and informed on all local events. The hotel's breakfast was fantastic! It was near a significant metro stop which provided access to all of Budapest. In short, it would be difficult to find another hotel with such outstanding qualities and so ideally situated. We would absolutely stay there again!” Feb 14, 2006 by
Friederich from The Woodlands, TX
“Location is on the Buda side of the city (hilly side next to the castle). The hotel's location right next to the Danube and with the beautiful Parliament building right in front provides for excellent views from frontal rooms. Side rooms have views to a quiet plaza with a medieval church courtyard. The only item that spoiled the room from our side room was a large crane that was fixing a building in the background. The room was very large for European standards with a sitting area that included a full size couch and two modern chairs. The room also had a well appointed business desk with all the latest hook ups. Furniture was nice style with good beds with down feather pillows and comforters. A nice full size bathroom with a European deep tub completed the room. Coffee maker, mini bar, safe, etc. all standard. What is very unique is the modern decor throughout the hotel including many paintings and unique carpet patterns. Breakfast was served in a well lit open room. Selection was typical for a European hotel, plenty of cold cuts, yogurt, fruits, cereal and breads. Hot plates were limited to scrambled eggs, backon and Hungarian sausage. The lobby bar was lively in the evenings with mostly couples on vacation and a business crowd. In order to go to the Buda side of town, expensive taxi's are available at the front of the hotel, but even the front desk personnel will be quick to point out the subway station and other public transportation's main stop that is only 200 yards away. To visit the Buda castle, you can just walk along the Danube towards the beautiful bridge 300 yards away and then take the charming old cable cart up the hill. After a visit to the castle, a walk back to the hotel takes you through the old narrow streets with plenty of cafe's and shops to keep you busy. On the way back you also walk past beautiful churches and old ramparts.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Jan 7, 2006 by

“Clean , modern hotel overlooking the Danube within walking distance of major areas of Pest.Young, energetic staff who are very attentive and all speak English. Excellent buffet breakfast included in the price.” May 28, 2005 by

“The location of the hotel, on the Danube, was convient to get anywhere. The employees were very friendly and helpful in helping us find where to go and what to do. We enjoyed our trip and were very comfortable at this hotel.” Apr 8, 2005 by
Anne from Potomac, MD
“This hotel is located on the charming, historic side called Buda. It is convenient to everything as one can easily walk via a bridge to the Pest side. There is a tram stop nearby but since the weather was warm and sunny we walked everywhere. It is a refreshing hotel in that the ambiance and interior design are not the usual "chain hotel" quality. ”
