“Great hotel- good location directly on the river, walking distance to the metro, helpful and kind staff, excellent free buffet breakfast, great overall experience!” Dec 4, 2006 by
Bob from Purcellville, VA
“The staff and atmosphere at the hotel are wonderful. The location is wonderful, very close to the castle, fisherman's bastion and Gellert hill. The Parliament is right across the river, which is beautiful. The morning breakfast which was included was fantastic, typical European and very much enjoyed.” Sep 29, 2006 by

“A 20-30 minute walk to most of the major sites: St. Mathias church & the Castle district on the Buda side of the river; Vaci Utca, St. Stephen's and Parliament on the Pest side. And in the middle, the Chain Bridge - so beautifully lit at night. Not a warm and romantic hotel, but with a charm all its own - clean, efficiently run with a great free buffet breakfast, a nice bar and restaurant (with non-smoking areas) and complimentary use of the internet. For $105 per night plus taxes it helped make Budapest very affordable (as opposed to most of Europe these days!)” Aug 28, 2006 by

“I was very impressed with Artotel. As a former Budapestian returning to the city after 5 years away; I also was happy not to stay in a mega chain hotel. The staff was extremely accommodating and helpful, the design of the hotel was beautiful - featuring many original artworks; and a gorgeous cafe courtyard. The hotel is located in Buda about 3 blocks from the Batty any tar metro; or a 10-15 minute walk from pest via the lanchid (chain bridge) or margit bridge. Also, note fabulous included breakfast, even for those who get discounted room rates! Highly recommended.” Jul 17, 2006 by

“There is no way that this is a 4-star hotel. It does not have the amenities of a 4-star hotel. Further, it's location is far away from the center of town, which is certainly not ideal. The other members of my group stayed at the Marriott (also a 4-star hotel), which was far superior to this hotel. The showers were not even fully enclosed (glass sheet covering half of the width of the tub), which is typically a minimum requirement of a 4-star hotel in Europe. Hotels.com actually rates this a 3-1/2 star hotel. I would recommend making this a 3-star hotel as well as reconsider how you split up Budapest as it is very expensive to take a cab to Buda. ” Jul 17, 2006 by

“I would not recommend staying here. Although it is near the castle, it is about a 15-20 minute walk from the city center. Cabbies are pretty shady in this city and will often charge 2-3x as much to cross the river into Buda if you are hailing one on the Pest side of the river, which is where most shops and restaurants are. Many sites rate this a 4-star hotel but I feel that it lacks many of the amenities that other 4-star hotels have. My friends stayed at the Marriott, which was much nicer. The showers are not fully enclosed, which is a necessity for a 4-star hotel. Stay at the Marriott instead....” May 22, 2006 by

“Interesting, attractive hotel, with generally courteous and professional staff. But not really a four-star hotel by international standards. I had a repairman working on the skylight in my room without warning while I was dressing in the morning. There is no absolute elevator access to all rooms but you must walk up stairs to get to some of them. A number of the personnel speak limited or no English. Also, very limited shopping, eating, and other services within walking distance - especially for older travelers. A pretty place, but I would not choose to stay there again.” May 16, 2006 by
Ray M. from Carlsbad, CA
“The hotel was ideally located with an excellent view of the Hungarian Parliament. The staff was very attentive and informed on all local events. The hotel's breakfast was fantastic! It was near a significant metro stop which provided access to all of Budapest. In short, it would be difficult to find another hotel with such outstanding qualities and so ideally situated. We would absolutely stay there again!” Feb 14, 2006 by

“Location is on the Buda side of the city (hilly side next to the castle). The hotel's location right next to the Danube and with the beautiful Parliament building right in front provides for excellent views from frontal rooms. Side rooms have views to a quiet plaza with a medieval church courtyard. The only item that spoiled the room from our side room was a large crane that was fixing a building in the background. The room was very large for European standards with a sitting area that included a full size couch and two modern chairs. The room also had a well appointed business desk with all the latest hook ups. Furniture was nice style with good beds with down feather pillows and comforters. A nice full size bathroom with a European deep tub completed the room. Coffee maker, mini bar, safe, etc. all standard. What is very unique is the modern decor throughout the hotel including many paintings and unique carpet patterns. Breakfast was served in a well lit open room. Selection was typical for a European hotel, plenty of cold cuts, yogurt, fruits, cereal and breads. Hot plates were limited to scrambled eggs, backon and Hungarian sausage. The lobby bar was lively in the evenings with mostly couples on vacation and a business crowd. In order to go to the Buda side of town, expensive taxi's are available at the front of the hotel, but even the front desk personnel will be quick to point out the subway station and other public transportation's main stop that is only 200 yards away. To visit the Buda castle, you can just walk along the Danube towards the beautiful bridge 300 yards away and then take the charming old cable cart up the hill. After a visit to the castle, a walk back to the hotel takes you through the old narrow streets with plenty of cafe's and shops to keep you busy. On the way back you also walk past beautiful churches and old ramparts.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Jan 7, 2006 by

“Clean , modern hotel overlooking the Danube within walking distance of major areas of Pest.Young, energetic staff who are very attentive and all speak English. Excellent buffet breakfast included in the price.” May 28, 2005 by

“The location of the hotel, on the Danube, was convient to get anywhere. The employees were very friendly and helpful in helping us find where to go and what to do. We enjoyed our trip and were very comfortable at this hotel.” Apr 8, 2005 by

“This hotel is located on the charming, historic side called Buda. It is convenient to everything as one can easily walk via a bridge to the Pest side. There is a tram stop nearby but since the weather was warm and sunny we walked everywhere. It is a refreshing hotel in that the ambiance and interior design are not the usual "chain hotel" quality. ”
