- We got a huge bargain considering the price we paid compared with other tourist we met on the trip, it's close enough to walk to museums.
- No in room coffee maker, had to go to lobby for that early morning cup or call room service.
“Very helpful staff, changed money at the desk, gave directions and provided maps. Also stressed warnings about dangers of walking in the bike paths. Remembered our name after only one day. Smaller than most Marriott's, we liked our room overlooking the busy street, but if you want to sleep late ask for a room on the back of the building.”

“This is a 3-star hotel, but was rated 4-star. They also changed me a city tax even though I got the hotel. It's a typical American hotel in Amsterdam. One doesn't really feel that he/she in Amsterdam being inside.”

- American style room. No twin beds pushed together for a king!
- They charge the usual 5% extra on all things bought or booked through this hotel. Nothing is said about this.
“Nice location, great staff, typical American Marriott with the same bedding, furniture, shampoo bottles and art you see in all the Marriott's in the US (Boring!)! Everything in the room is for sale with candy laying out and Pringles with the lids on the bottom and they charge you 5% on all other purchases. Great room for the price paid.”

- Concierge and bellmen only use taxis that they have control over.
“I asked for a taxi to take me to the airport. They told me that they would call one for me. Two other groups were waiting ahead of me. Meanwhile, there was a taxi waiting outside that no one was using. They tried to prevent me from taking it, supposedly because it was not one from the company they have an "arrangement" with. I eventually went out to take it and they tried to persuade me not to take it. It was extremely unprofessional and inconvenient. It felt like I had to take a cab that only they had control over. Not acceptable!”

“Location is great. Rooms are very comfortable and well appointed if maybe a bit dated. The best surprise was the service. I did not have to ask for anything twice and when I did, help was at my door instantaneously (from small problem with plumbing, was moved to another room, to having my coat pressed). The hotel has an awesome, if a bit overpriced, breakfast and I also had a very good dinner there in the evening (surprised by the solid wine selection with reasonable prices). The personal service, the restaurant and the bar ( I did not try Pizza Hut, but I'd guess it's better then what you get in the States if that's your fare or if you are with kids) on the premises made my stay very comfortable considering I got to Amsterdam with a cold. So, thanks again to the Amsterdam Marriott staff! Everything in a walking distance or a short tram ride. Definitely recommended.”

“This hotel provides a quality stay within a short walk from Leidseplein, with plenty of nightlife. What made this hotel better than usual, was the friendliness of the staff at all levels, from the reception desk to the nice little touches of the maid.”

- For a hotel in Europe, it was able to accommodate 3 people in one room.
- The concierge was not as knowledgeable as I would have expected.
“Amsterdam Marriott is located near Leidseplein, a city square bustling with restaurants and shops. It is a very short walk to the major museums. It is easily accessible by the tram. We were able to take the tram to Central Station and then take the train to Chisholm Airport. Beats paying for a cab or a car service. The hotel's rooms and common areas are typical of a Marriott in the US, and I really appreciated the fact that the three of us could stay in one hotel room. This is unusual in Europe. There were two double beds. This is truly a great hotel for families and business travelers. They also had a business center in the lobby which was great for checking flights, checking online, and emails although it was not cheap. Something like 7.50 euros for 15 minutes. It's probably cheaper to go to an internet cafe. The front desk staff was very polite.”

“This hotel is great if you want to be near the museum district and Leidseplein. It has large comfortable rooms with king size beds available and the sliding door actually opens! This hotel is appointed more like an American hotel than a European one. Hotel staff were very friendly and service was great. Note that breakfast is not included in price and it is very expensive (24 Euros) compared to other local options. This is a really nice clean hotel. The only real con is that it is quite a ways from Dam Square, so you either have to walk about 20 minutes, take a cab (12-20 Euros), take a tram (trams 1, 2 or 5) or (best option in my opinion) take a bicycle cab for 9 Euros.”

- Rude and unfriendly staff...
“Staff was rude and not helpful. I'm very familiar with this hotel, having stayed here 20+ times in the early 90s. Felt like any other American hotel, complete with Pizza Hut. Not at all what I had hoped for when bidding for a 4 star. What broke the deal was the extremely rude staff. The lowpoint of my 12 hour stay in Amsterdam. ”

- This is a nice hotel, it is not quaint like some smaller ones off the canal.

- We loved the balcony in our room and the help from the staff.

- compared to our 4 star hotel , the room in this hotel was smaller. but this 5 star is cleaner (which i'd prefer anyway)

- The bed and bed linens were very comfortable. You didn't even want to leave the bed. AC was also nice to have in unusually hot weather.

- The concierge helped us purchase musuem ticket in advance to avoid long lines upon entry. The price was even the same as at the door.
- The bathrooms were pretty shabby and dark. Internet connection too expensive!!
“Perfect location, helpful staff, reasonably priced good quality al la carte breakfast. Comfortable beds and the rooms had large windows. The only downside was the bathroom specifically the shower. It was very narrow and had a heavy dark curtain which completely closed you off from the rest of the bathroom It made it feel very dark and closed in. But that's a small price to pay for the great price and location.”

- Location was superb. Minutes from museums and a short walk to Dam Square & Red Light district.
- Nothing -- no complaints whatsoever.
“Besides superb location, the other star feature of this hotel is the very helpful staff. Always available to answer questions and provide advice. Service in the restaurants was very good. ”

- Great proximity to museums
- The tour service they recommended has logistical issues but tours themselves were great.
“Hotel was great. Staff was good. Room was great. No issues with the stay at all. VERY American, however, so if you are looking for a European hotel experience, this wouldn't be it. (I happen to like feeling like I'm in a foreign country even in my room.)”

- Great Location, comfortable room and wonderful staff
- The price of the Restaurant was exorbidant, but so is everything in Europe now due to dollar's value.
“This hotel was comfortable, clean, centrally located. It had a very impressive gym. Often hotels who say they have exercise facilities turn out to have very limited, facilities. This place had state of the art machines and was very pleasant to use.”
