“Overall I was disappointed with the value for money. It would be more accurately described as a 2.5 - 3 star hotel. It is not within walking distance of any tourist attractions.” May 8, 2007 by
Chris from Chaska, MN
“If I would have known at the time I checked in that the water would be shut off from 11:30pm to 5:30am I would not have booked the room. The room was very small and the view of the parking lot had something to be desired. Also 7 euros for a beer in the hotel lounge is uncalled for I think.” Apr 27, 2007 by
Adam from San Francisco, CA
“Overall it was good. Of course, this one was at the end. I had turned down another hotel because it looked like I could get closer for the same rate. No - I was an extra mile or so out.” Apr 18, 2007 by
Stephanie from Palm Springs, CA
“Do not stay here if you are young and looking to have fun and be in the city center. The cab rides cost a pretty penny.” Mar 14, 2007 by
Brad from The Woodlands, TX
“The Golden Tulip Apollo Amsterdam was a wonderful experience. Our room was stunningly far from the front desk, but as we had very little luggage (one bag each) it was no problem at all. The area surrounding the Apollo was incredibly clean. It seemed like a middle-upper to upper-class neighborhood. The directions we found from the Amsterdam Central were flawless and easy. We did not write them down for some reason, but a vague recollection of street names was more than enough to find the hotel. I very strongly recommend this hotel. The price was much less than for hotels more central to the city and sights, but at the same time it must be said that the metro ride to downtown is 10-15 minutes, and should be taken into consideration.” Feb 22, 2007 by
Laurent from Westfield, NJ
“This is definitely not a 4 star hotel, and my 5 friends all agreed with me. The accommodations are clean but no extra features, decor is okay, cold/hot water control in shower did not work. A decent 3 star hotel though. What we saved in room charge, we ended up paying in taxis and public transportation. ” Feb 14, 2007 by
Vince from Voorhees, NJ
“This is a very nice hotel, however, it is certainly not a 4 star hotel (it is a 3 star), and it is certainly not in the center of Amsterdam.” Jan 31, 2007 by
Juan
“Not well located to the center of Amsterdam. Need to travel 20 minutes by tram from the Central Station to reach it.” Jan 5, 2007 by
Jim from Vienna, VA
“Nice lobby and helpful staff. Rooms are a bit worn the rate for new years was not cheap. Close too many attractions. Easy tram to city center. A good hotel, which is showing a bit of wear and tear.” Jul 9, 2006 by
Seth. from Tiverton, RI
“This hotel had class, respectful staff, and comfortable beds. After several days on travel this hotel affords its guests quiet and repose. For those reliant on public transportation and don't want to pay cab fare, the hotel is a bit far from the center of town. It's a 30 minute walk through good neighborhoods for those who don't mind the trek.” Jun 22, 2006 by
Megan from Callander, ON CA
“Nice location, quiet end of town but still near the action.” Apr 8, 2006 by
Richard from Union, SC
“Hotel staff was exceptional. Rooms were clean and freshly refurbished. Although I did not eat at the dining room on site, I found the prices to be very expensive. Breakfast was around 25 euros. I was pleased with the quality and service and would recommend this hotel.” Apr 1, 2006 by
Paul from East Boston, MA
“The hotel was certainly not a four-star hotel. It was at the outer edge of the areas described and quite far from the city center which necessitated taking many taxis. I don't mind paying for internet service in the room, but not at such a high cost such as 29 Euros a night when it is only available in the lobby.” Mar 30, 2006 by
David from Canton, MA
“The hotel is excellent. It is neat and the staff very helpful. I am a partier and they knew that and treated me just the same as anyone else. That is class. It was a bit far far away. After a long night though the 4:00 am walk was pleasant, along a canal and safe. I took the tram into town came evening.” Mar 29, 2006 by
Anna from Atlanta, GA
“I think we had one of the worst rooms at this hotel. The room was tiny for one person, leave alone for two and we could not control the temperature. It was above 80F when we first entered the room. I would not recommend a stay here. It says that it is a four star hotel and it is priced that way but next time I would simply go elsewhere!” Mar 29, 2006 by
Chris from San Antonio, TX
“The Le Meridian Apollo is a fine hotel for the business traveler who wants to stay near the World Trade Center. For the leisure traveler, despite the fact that the hotel is clean and comfortable, it is a dreadful choice, way to far South of the city center and the typical tourist attractions.” Mar 16, 2006 by
Kristi from Kings Park, NY
“It was far out of the busy area, which may be nice for some, but it wasn't in the Museum area and according to the Amsterdam Map, it is not. Bed was ok, staff was good, Shell station next door was great for Water and snacks!! Better then mini bar prices. ” Feb 27, 2006 by
Gregg from Richmond, TX
“It wasn't even close to the line to catch a tram into the city.” Feb 25, 2006 by
Zach from Apo, NY
“Hotel itself was not bad. Rooms were small but clean. Hotel staff was very friendly and more than helpful. Hotel was approximately 20 minute walk to the museum plain, so it was a little out of the way for us. Would have liked to stay in a hotel a little closer to some of Amsterdam's sights.” Feb 24, 2006 by
Craig from Mankato, MN
“Staff is excellent. Rooms very nice. View is nice.” Feb 24, 2006 by
Denise from Lakeland, FL
“Le Meridian Apollo meets all expectations with respect to room comforts and amenities. The hotel is located with about a 5 min. walk and then a 15 min. tram ride from the more commercial and bustling city center in a more sedate residential area. The setting is quaint (and quiet!) and the lobby decor an eclectic mix of Asian and Dutch styles. Some public areas/rooms offer a nice view of the canal the hotel is situated on. ” Feb 23, 2006 by
Scott from West Hollywood, CA
“The Meridian Apollo is as far away as you can get from anything and still be in Amsterdam. In fact, the tram stop nearby is not even considered in the Center, and there are few public facilities nearby. Although the lobby is well appointed and full of business travelers, the rooms are in poor condition. I was given a small room on the lobby level. The fixtures in the restroom were broken, and there was no consistency to the water pressure. It went from scalding hot to freezing cold, making washing hands to showering almost painful. Hotel staff did not do much to fix the situation when it was reported to them.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Jan 16, 2006 by

“Very accommodating, especially the concierge.” Dec 8, 2005 by
Irene from Monterey Park, CA
“We got a smoking room and were shocked to find out our room is in the basement! The only good thing was that our room is very close to the gym. This is the first time we got a smoking room. We couldn't sleep well because of the smell.” Dec 4, 2005 by
Ira from Glen Cove, NY
“Although the staff was great, especially about checking out later than usual. However location was terrible.” Dec 1, 2005 by
Doug from Virginia Beach, VA
“Biz travelers will like this hotel. It is undergoing extensive renovations as of November 2005 so quiet rooms are few.” Nov 29, 2005 by
Julio from Portland, OR
“This hotel was not as close to the center of Amsterdam as we would have liked, but it does have convenient tram access. Our biggest disappointment was the lack of internet access in the rooms, and the only option available was too expensive 99 Euro per week for lobby wi-fi. Otherwise, the hotel worked out just fine.” Sep 28, 2005 by
Eran from New York, NY
“The hotel is great, though the facilities were not active as promised, I didn't fly to Holland for a Fitness Room. The hotel is far from everything, it is not considered in the city, even the local stuff said that. ” Aug 8, 2005 by
James from Middleburg Hts, OH
“I have stayed at serveral Le Meridien Hotels and this is the worst. I am was quite surprized as most are top notch. I really did not consider this to be a 4 star hotel. ” Aug 7, 2005 by
Amy from San Mateo, CA
“Le Meridien Apollo was outside of the main attractions of the city. From Amsterdam Central train station, it was easy to hop on one of the trams, but the tram drops you off about a ten minute walk from the hotel. With luggage, it's an extremely inconvenient walk. ” Jul 7, 2005 by
T from San Antonio, TX
“Request directly from hotel an upgrade to Executive room overlloking the Canals, which is well worth it. Beautiful large room. Only drawback is a little far to walk to city center so need to take tram or taxi.” Jul 6, 2005 by
Otto from Rancho Santa Fe, CA
“I would not recommend this hotel.” Jun 26, 2005 by
Robert from League City, TX “Good location on the water at the junction of five canals. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Dining room was excellent.” Jun 20, 2005 by
Kathy from Wilton, CT
“Nice facilities, concierge and reception staff very helpful. fitness center very nice” Jun 6, 2005 by
Nancy from Middletown, NJ
“Hotel was pretty nice and the staff very courteous and friendly! Beds were only twins (not doubles) and furnishings and rugs on the older side. Overall a good hotel if you don't mind walking about a mile to the city center.” Jun 4, 2005 by
ann from kent england
“Location has it's own merit on the canal - but it is just too far out to be an easy option for central sightseeing. Hotel was previously owned by the forte chain (English) and the age of the building shows - it needs a refurb - but the windows were being done in Feb 2005. On site restaurant was excellent - gourmet in style and worth of the local acclaim. Not typical of the Le Meridian chain apart from the level of service. I would still stay there as central Amsterdam is pretty seedy these days and taxis are plentiful - allow 15 euros a trip so plan your day!” May 25, 2005 by
Eva from Kenmore, WA
“My stay was not bad, but this hotel certainly was not a 4 star hotel. In addition to the shabby, dated decor and the lack of basic amenities such as internet in the room and a hairdryer, I was overcharged for breakfast in the dining room.” May 24, 2005 by
David from New York, NY
“The hotel was generally good. The staff were very friendly and accomodating. The room itself was nice and the bathroom was especially trimmed well with its bath/shower. However, my room was situated in a construction area, so I heard construction noise just outside my room during the morning hours. While the hotel is in a safe and quiet area, it is located too far outside the city center of Amsterdam making it inconvenient.” May 24, 2005 by
Simon from Hamilton, CA
“great location, helpful staff, an overall excellent place to stay. a little out of the touristy area but to me i preffered it that way, as the neighborhood surrounding the hotel was beautiful and full of great stores and restaurants which gave you more of a feel for the city then tourist traps. Also a short walk away from all the great museums.” May 18, 2005 by
Ron from Newport Beach, CA
“Very old and dated decor - poor location - avoid this place...” May 11, 2005 by
Andu from New Castle, NY
“The hotel is beautiful and the staff is so helpful. The only drawback is that is it really in a residential area and you have to take about a ten minute walk to the tram and take that a few stops to get to anything. There was NO FOOD anywhere around the hotel and room service closed at 11:00pm, so when you get back after sightseeing, you have to starve until morning. Otherwise - it' great!” May 7, 2005 by
Dj from Duvall, WA
“This hotel is worth the time and price. The hotel staff is absolutely awesome. I would come back to stay here. I just wish it was closer to downtown Dam.” Apr 30, 2005 by
Dan from Minneapolis, MN
“The hotel was being remodelled. They put me in a far basement section and proceeded to remodel (construction) all the rooms above my room and next to my room. The construction started before 8 am every morning. They were tearing out the old windows and frames and putting in new ones. The view out my window was between scaffolding bars and plastic sheeting. I of course complained and was finally moved to a different room for my last night stay. ” Apr 16, 2005 by
Patrick from Portland, OR
“Not the same level of US Le Meridien Hotels worlwide. Rooms a bit outdated and "moldy" smell in room. Undergoing major external renovations during our stay - which was not mentioned prior to arrival. No sleeping in during this vacation b/c noise was unbearable starting at 8:00am. Front desk staff was very friendly - but only apologized for noise when we complained. Housekeeping experience was also very bad; we accidentally broke a glass in the room, and when the housekeeper assigned to our room was asked to clean it up, her attitude showed EXTREME displeasure (even saying a bad word in dutch - which I speak).” Dec 1, 2004 by
Laurence D. from Fairlawn “When checking into this hotel, be sure to ask for a renovated room. I was initially checked into a horrible first floor room with the worst mattress I have ever experienced when traveling. On complaining, I was reassigned to a very comfortable 3rd floor room. So, caution needs to be exercised here.” Nov 30, 2004 by
Jared W. from Marblehead “The hotel was quite nice, but it was farther from the city center than I had hoped and the actual room was significantly inferior.” Oct 14, 2004 by
“Rooms were quite Spartan for a 4 star hotel. Hotel was way out of the way, requiring a long taxi or tram ride to center. Thing that annoyed me the most was that WIFI, only in lounge, not available in rooms, was 9 euros for two hours, even if you only used it for 35 minutes, and all 2 hours had to be used straight through in one session.” Sep 24, 2004 by
Martin P. from Atlanta “The Meridian is about as far from the center of Amsterdam as you can get and still call it central in fact it's in an area of town just outside the center called Zuidwest. It's a 20-minute walk in! Our room was always warm; the carpet had cuts in it, the bedspread had tears in it, and when we asked for washcloths, they said they had a shortage and only could bring us two for the entire stay. High-speed internet per day is $39! Based on this and a stay in Paris at the same chain, I won't choose a Le Meridien hotel ever again.” Sep 24, 2004 by
Mark A. from Miami Shores “The room was the size of a shoe box.” Sep 24, 2004 by
Marina H. from Bountiful “I was disappointed with hotel location. The hotel located in residential area 20 minutes walk from Leidsplain and 20 minutes ride on tram to Dam Squire (no restaurants or shops close by). The room was not clean and does not have enough storage space (few hangers and no shells in bathroom). It seems that they don't wipe tables or vacuum on daily basis. The bar, lobby, and reception were OK and it is probably good for people who stay only 1 or 2 days. Overall, the Le Meredian Apollo does not deserve 5 or 4 stars.”
