“The hotel is in a great location in the center of the city, just a few blocks from the Rambla. In this regard it is excellent for leisure visits. Unfortunately my room completely lacked anything resembling a view, a real shame considering the location. The internet amenities are not acceptable esp. if you're in Barcelona for business. Otherwise great staff and reasonable accommodations.” Mar 10, 2008 by

“Wonderful hotel, with great location. If you are a first time Barcelona visitor, this would be an excellent choice of place to stay.” Feb 1, 2008 by

“Nice place.” Dec 17, 2007 by

“The hotel accommodations, location were excellent. My big complaint, and it is huge, is that it was extremely noisy and we could not get a good nights rest.” Dec 15, 2007 by

“Good location for leisure traveler.” Nov 21, 2007 by

“We stayed at the colon before and after a cruise. The location is excellent, near city center across the square from the cathedral. It was a 15-20 minute cab ride to the port and a 25-30 minute ride from the airport. The first night she said she was upgrading us and we shouldn't expect such treatment on our following stay. We had a room on the 6th floor with a balcony. Beautiful. It was on a side street but very nice. With the balcony door open it was a bit noisy with the revelers and then the garbage men but with the door closed it was fine. When we returned we were again upgraded and this time the room was directly across from the cathedral and had 15'x20' terrace with local plants and shrubs. We were able hear the music from the square and watch the Spaniards do their traditional dancing (impromptu) with ease. There are markets nearby and several places to eat. Museums and churches are also very close. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.” Nov 16, 2007 by

“The hotel is in a great location. The rooms with the balconies offer a terrific view.” Oct 14, 2007 by

“This hotel is a gem. It has a lovely marble entry, staircase and lobby. It was very quiet considering it is located on the plaza across from the Cathedral de Barcelona. The room was quite spacious for a European room. It had been updated with newer bathrooms.” Oct 14, 2007 by

“The Colon is a popular and busy hotel seemingly with tourists like us. The staff, although cordial, was always busy - almost too busy to answer questions. But they spoke English which was a big help, as many of the shops and restaurants did not. They did, however, suggest two good restaurants that we enjoyed and they called cabs for us. The bar was a comfortable room with couches and chairs for gathering. Our room was dark and small facing an alleyway so we could barely know the weather outside. But the location was perfect for getting the hop-on, hop-off bus and for walking anywhere in the city. As per all big cities, pricey, but to be expected.” Sep 14, 2007 by

“Overall, we had a great stay. The hotel was very centrally located. The staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean, but could use some updating (paint, carpet). Expensive internet rates.” Jul 26, 2007 by
Leanne from Jackson Heights, NY
“From the moment of arrival, the staff was extraordinarily attentive. The front desk gave great recommendations for tourists to see the best places and made all the reservations for us. Definitely a hotel to go back to. Beautiful view of the cathedral from the balcony.” Oct 16, 2006 by

“Located on the square overlooking Barcelona cathedral. In the middle of action, right in the heart of gothic area, within walking distance to great restaurants, shopping and entertainment. I would not recommend getting a room overlooking the square: it costs more and the rooms not looking at the square are extremely quiet. We slept with our windows open and there was no noise at all. For the price and convenience you cannot find a better hotel in Barcelona.” Aug 11, 2006 by
Lucy from Rochester, NY
“The location could not be better for visiting Barcelona. It's easy to get everywhere from this location - it's an easy walk from the airport bus stop, subway, waterfront, shopping streets, and is right in the middle of the Gothic District. The hotel itself is old-fashioned in an attractive way and very well maintained. Desk staff all speak good English and are very gracious. We stayed here twice and got "basic" double rooms (not the front rooms with balconies overlooking the square), but we loved our rooms and they were a fraction of the standard rate. There is some construction behind the hotel which gets going early in the a.m. so ask for a room away from that if you can. We had no noise between rooms or from above or below, and there are lovely sitting rooms on the first floor where one can get a drink. This is a great place.” Hotel Representatives:
