“The room I stayed in that was supposed to accommodate two people was tiny - there wasn't even a desk in the room and we could barely fit both suitcases. Also, we had a lot of problems with the internet access and it not working half of the time. Support was no help on this issue. I stayed at this hotel last year and the experience I had this time made me wonder if I was even at the same hotel.”

• Rooms small and hard beds but expected in Asia.

“Very decent hotel in excellent location for transit everywhere in Tokyo. Rooms are typically small and not American but this is Asian norm like Bukuro is a great little restaurant/retail district with everything easily walked to. Location is great with the main Manometers central loop train line right next to the hotel.”

• This hotel is at a very convenient location.
• Our noise reduction earphone was stolen in the hotel room.

“In general, this was a good hotel to stay at. Although the bedroom is very small comparing to hotel rooms in united states, this is a very common size in Japan. The only thing that we were disappointed at was that our Bose noise reduction earphone was stolen from the bedroom while we were out exploring.”

• The Japanese suite is unique and comfortable. Very nice.
• The standard rooms are a touch too small.

“The customer service was fantastic, the rooms were fresh and very clean. The situation is a five minute walk from a train station, ample food and shopped within walking distance.”

“This hotel was a great experience. Helpful English speaking staff will help you call other Japanese places to make reservations. The rooms were great and the facilities were spotless. Direct bus service from the airport was a definite plus.”

• None.

“I could specify a non-smoking room and they had to put us in a smoking room due to no vacancy. Hotel staff took the earliest opportunity to switch room the following morning without my need to contact front desk.”

• The hotel was very clean. The experience was great once we received a new room.
• We were initially placed in a non-renovated room. It was difficult to communicate that we wanted to be moved to a renovated room.

• The staff was amazing and the hotel presented itself well.
• Rooms were being refurbished and I had a room that was not.

“The location is great. Only a few blocks from a major train station so you can easily get all over Tokyo. The hotel itself was very nice, but be sure to ask for a room that is refurbished.”

• Close to the JR Train station and Metro.
• Very Small Rooms.

“The hotel was nice, and had all of the amenities of a four star hotel. However the rooms where so small that having two people in own room made it very uncomfortable. The Bed (1 double for two people) was very uncomfortable (even by Japanese standards). Also the 1000 Yen charge to use the pool was a bit too much. The rooms did have free high speed internet which was nice as it is quite typical in Japan to be charged 1500 yen. I personally would not stay here again because the room was to small. I have traveled all over Asia and have rarely seen a room this size, especially for the price.”

• Excellent staff that speak English, clean, good location.
• Rooms are small, but this is not unusual for Tokyo.

“We are experienced travelers who have stayed at many hotels in cities in Asia, North America, and Europe. We were very happy with the hotel and the staff. The location is excellent, across the street from a major subway station. Lkebukuro has many places to go to for eating and prices are very reasonable, although you will need to travel to other neighborhoods for sight seeing. The rooms are small, but clean and modern.”

• Convenient to train station & "restaurant buildings"-if you know where to find them.
• Small rooms (probably not for Tokyo), no coin laundry, no in-house exercise facilities.

“If you're in Tokyo to visit a specific location this might be a little off the beaten path. If you're going to get getting around it's proximity to a major metro/train station is a great convenience. The restaurants didn't do much for me but there are literally hundreds of restaurants in "restaurant buildings" within a block. Rooms are small by American standards-queen bed was pushed against wall and only one chair. Fixtures/finish out in sleeping quarters and bathroom quite nice in the recently remodeled section. Staff helpful and friendly.”

• I had to pay extra for a bigger room.

“When we arrived in the hotel, I requested a two twin bed room or king size bed room. The hotel staff said king size bed room is all booked If I want twin bed room I have to pay extra. There are three people (myself, my husband and seven years old son) in my family. I negotiated with them over one hour. Eventually, I still had to pay 4620 Japanese money to the hotel for two nights. It's not right, is it?”

“The hotel itself is close to JR subway which is very convenient, great location. However, the room we had was small and our double bed was simply a full-size bed. Given that we are average build, the bed is somewhat small for a couple.”

“Only stayed one night on a stopover. Hotel is clean and conveniently located. Rooms are a bit dated and very small by usual Crowne Plaza standards. Common areas are nice and free Internet room is great. Restaurants expensive and not outstanding.”

“This hotel is very conveniently located in Rebuked, near trains, subway, shopping, and restaurants. Service is very accommodating when we first checked in our room had no Internet access, and they changed us to another room as soon as they could). In Japan we like to make coffee in the room and buy bread for breakfast. There was a way to boil water as in most Japanese rooms, and a decent bakery on the first floor of the hotel. The hotel has quite a few restaurants with a range of cuisine, and there are many others within a block or two. We have stayed there before, and this time the rooms were tiny; maybe if we had specifically requested a king size bed the room would have been larger, but I fear that there would have been even less room for things like feet. Very little closet or storage space.”

“Wonderfully helpful and friendly staff. Very clean and well-appointed rooms albeit a tad small. A window that actually has an opening. Bathroom mirror doesn't fog in one area where you see your face. Very convenient and fast access to subways and trains at Ikebukuro station going through Metropolitan Plaza basement which is diagonally across from the hotel.”

“The Metropolitan Hotel is a good value compared to other similar hotels in Tokyo. Nearby train/subway station is a major benefit as Shinjuku and Shibuya are only about 10-15 minutes away. Free internet access is also helpful as internet cafes can be hard to find in Tokyo. Hotel restaurants were a bit expensive, but there were many inexpensive dining options nearby.”

• The staffs are friendly when they understand you. Close to center of attractions.
• Full of cigarette smoke throughout the lobby and each floor.

“They decorate the lobby really well and remodeled their rooms. First of all, the room is way too small, which is understandable for Japan especially in Tokyo. You are looking at a room that's half of a regular room size with everything they can stuff in. If you have more than 2 luggage's, then you are out of luck. The bed is firm, the pillow is shitty and the towels are worse than most in expensive motels. There are people smoking every where in and out of the hotel. If you are a non smoker and can not stand any cigarette smoke, do not take their smoking room regardless of what they said about how they do a great job eliminate the smell. Because, it only works for people who smokes or are used to the smell of cigarette.”

• The room size is small with one double bed & extra charges for changes to the room.

• Room quite small for 2 people.

“In all categories except room size, this hotel score a perfect 10. The location could not be more convenient, it is steps away from Ikebukuro Station, several major department stores and is surrounded by good quality izakayas. The hotel staff are fantastic. Our only minor complaint, the room was a little small for two people with luggage. We plan to stay in this hotel again if at all possible.”

• Excellent service from entrance to exit. Wonderful restaurant
• Booked a room for two men and room had only one bed, unexpected.

“Very convenient Ikebukuro location near the station. Nearly all staff members spoke excellent English, not to mention their sincere politeness. Definitely hit the fantastic breakfast or lunch buffet for a Japanese-Western treat that's sure to leave you full.”

“I would recommend this Hotel for tourist who is on budget. I stayed there second time this summer and appreciated the conviniens of the location (near major Ikebukuro metro and railroad station). I paid modest sum and plan to stay there again inspite that Hotel is starting show its age.”

“English spoken by staff. Excellent breakfast menu, covering Japanese and western foods. Location is excellent, one block from major train and subway station. Nice array of restaurants at night, all within short distance. Close to major post office with ATM machine that accept foreign cards (extremely rare in Tokyo). Overall, very happy with the deal.”
