• The staff was quite nice; location was good, very comfortable bed.
• Room was a bit worn looking, two twins pushed together.

“For the price we paid, it was good value considering how expensive hotels are in Rome. Located at the top of the Spanish steps, close to bus routes, lots of little cafes and shops. Staff was very nice. Our room was quite small but we expected this based on previous reviews.”

“Hotel is in fantastic location, you have fab restaurants very close to the hotel. It's a bit quiet in the night there. The food and drinks are a total rip off don't eat or drink there. The metro is a 1 minute walk so that was great too.”

• The walls in the room had scuff marks on them--probably from the luggage racks.

• The hotel staff was very accommodating.
• I did not like having to climb the Spanish steps every time I wanted to leave and return to the hotel.

“The hotel staff was excellent and the accommodations of the hotel were relaxing. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was a decent size. However, the room size in general was pretty small for the price. However, this is likely in all the hotels in Italy. Claming up and down the Spanish steps to get to/from the hotel was a bit taxing on the body, but, be prepared to do a lot of walking in Rome anyhow. This hotel was pretty close to all of the main attractions.”

• The food prices felt like legal robbery without a gun.

“I enjoyed the location of the hotel. It's located at the top of the Spanish steps and is a great central point to tour the city. I did think they overcharged for everything and I was disappointed that my room service staff would add extra money to my gratuity line (tip) so they could get extra money. I had to really go through my bill at check out to confirm the charges. Additionally, they take a 10% tip (automatic) for checking you out on the day of your departure. The food was very over-priced and not worth eating. I would tell you that the location is great, but save your time and money on food by going to the local coffee shops and restraints to eat and drink and then you will be very happy with this pick.”

• The location was phenomenal. The bathrooms were lovely.
• All the English speaking channels were news only.

“The hotel location can not be beat. At the top of the Spanish steps you are really in the heart of Rome. The rooms are fair sized. The linens excellent. Our large bed was actually two beds pushed together, but as we were so exhausted from sight-seeing, this wasn't a problem. The bathrooms were lovely and decorated with marble.”

• The location was excellent and staff very helpful.
• The cost of services in the hotel was very high.

“A very comfortable and well located property. The staff is very helpful especially at the concierge. Having said all that the food and liqueur services in the hotel were extremely expensive, an example of which were the cocktails which were 16 euros each for just a vodka and soda. Other than that a very pleasant experience.”

“Nowhere near as upscale as the Hassler, but right next door. The room was adequate, the staff friendly, the location excellent. Great value in an "upscale" experience in Rome. We would go over to the Hassler for dinner & cocktails.”

• The room was very small. The toilet in the bathroom had a foul odor probably from the sewer. I don't believe it was vented properly.

“For location this property can not be beat. The hotel staff was very kind and courteous. There were very little in the way of amenities. Our room was on the street but it was very quite nonetheless. I would stay there again particularly for the location.”

• The reception area staff were not overtly friendly but once you asked them for a service they were very helpful.

“This hotel is in a marvelous location with pedestrian access to many different venues in Rome. The rooms are comfortable, rather up-to-date and provide a nice quiet escape. The staff is pleasant.”

• We loved how elegant this hotel was, and the location can't be beat.
• The staff was a little stuffy.

“I have found in my travels that usually if you find a hotel in a great location its often not such a great place. This hotel was elegant and beautiful. Equipped with all the little special touches that make a traveler feel comfortable. We loved the slippers and bathrobes. The bar upstairs was very nice, we enjoyed the piano music. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to our friends.”

• Found several hairs in bed.

“Great location, friendly staff for the most part. Was very disappointed to find several different hairs on the sheets. When I called the front desk to report it, the woman said that their sheets are washed in very hot water and this is not the first time she heard that complaint. That is NOT 5 star! The staff at the front desk did not seem to think it was a problem. We were finally moved to another room but it disrupted our evening and was a bad experience. We paid a lot to stay at this hotel and were very disappointed that this happened.”

“This hotel has an excellent location, but as with all European locations, it is expensive and has limited resources, such as adequate electrical, etc. The staff seemed a bit disinterested at times, again, typical for European hotels, but the place was charming and beautiful.”

• Concierge staff was simply OUTSTANDING! This is a top hotel.

“Hotel exterior belies the elegance within--once inside, it is just lovely. Location is superb, right by the Spanish Steps--you can't do better. Everything in the hotel is immaculately kept--not easy, considering the busy location. Rooms not large, but very comfortable by Rome hotel standards. Best of all, the concierge staff at this hotel is one of the most superb I have ever experienced, anywhere: well-connected, professional, made things happen. We loved our stay here and would return again, assuming we were able to get a good price--hotels in Rome are not cheap!”

• Overall hotel is very good.
• The room they gave us was a one star room in a 4 star hotel.

“Hotel is great, however they gave us what seemed to be a small staff room. A one star room in a five star hotel. We complained and the moved us up to a better room on the second night, the room had plaster falling from the ceiling. ”

• There really is no view on most rooms and very limited for those rooms that do have a view.

“Very nice and clean. the review of the hotel is a little mis-leading in that is shows an awesome view, most rooms do not have a view and those that do is limited due to the building across the street.”

• The hotel staff were very accommodating from the beginning to the end.
• Nothing that I did not like.

“The location is excellent for touring in Rome but even more importantly from the time we checked in, the staff member at the front desk, Robert, was friendly and helpful. He even assisted us to upgrade our room. The concierge helped us get tickets to an event. This kind of service made our stay at the hotel even more fabulous!”

“This is a well maintained hotel, excellent location, excellent and helpful staff. The room I had was perfect in appointments and clean, though it was not overly large. The room was on the 6th floor which has a nice outside area, though this room did not have a balcony. The location is great at the top of the Spanish Steps and near the metro. The staff was very helpful when my wallet was lifted on the metro later found discarded at metro station where thief discarded it after removing money be careful of people brushing against you as they exit metro at last possible second, in providing room service, and in arranging transportation to the airport. Overall, a good deal.”

• Location could not be better, staff was friendly and helpful.
• Double standard based on room status, asked for computer usage where another guest was working but was denied after room number was asked and given.

“Location is excellent. Attentive staff that was very courteous. Rooms a bit small but understand that it is Europe and an older building. Would have liked more than two English speaking channels on the TV, BBC and CNN could be upgraded. Not sure I would have rated it a five star but definitely four or four and a half.”

• This is not a 5 star hotel, rooms are very small and doesn't compare to other five star hotels.

“Embedded in the beautiful top side of the Spanish steps is the Intercontinental. At first glance it might not appear as a mighty hotel from the facade, this impression quickly changes upon entering the hotel and the various terraces. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly, concierge service is second to none.”

• The location was close to the metro, which brings you to the top sites on Rome.
• Not physical disability friendly.

“This hotel exceeded my expectations. It was clean, comfortable and the staff was helpful. The bed was extremely comfortable which was especially welcoming after a long, hot day of site-seeing! I would recommend this hotel to others that visit Rome.”
