“Overall, a very nice hotel, but our room was in bad need of paint, so even though it was very clean, the impression when you looked at the walls was shabby. The bed was pathetic. As with most king beds in Europe, they are two long twins pushed together. However, the edges on these were very hard, so you needed to avoid the center. One side was extremely hard and rather lumpy. The other side was better, but still, in order to sleep on it, we had to strip the sheets off, put the comforter on the mattress, then remake the bed on top of that in order to get any sleep.” Jul 23, 2008 by
Rob from Maple, ON CA
“A good hotel that met with our expectations. It was in an excellent location in central Rome close to the nearby Subway. Bathroom was first rate and bed was clean and comfortable with good comforter. Downside was paying extra Euros for room upgrade (in size) and to accommodate a bed being placed in the room for children (we were 4 people). Excessive charges for phone were annoying. The initial smell in the room was strong and from daily use of spray which was not used to rest of the stay.” Jul 3, 2008 by
Lisa from Jacksonville, FL
“Excellent hotel with excellent service and excellent location.” Jun 15, 2008 by
Zeina from Miami, FL
“Very good experience. The location was very convenient, the staff very professional and welcoming. The general atmosphere was warm. We definitely recommend this hotel.” Jun 5, 2008 by
Cheryl from Port Charlotte, FL
“Staff failed to notify us that we could access the hotel via a nearby Metro station with an elevator, which caused us to hike up the Spanish Steps every time we went to and from the hotel. They have a button on their phone that says "For anything at any time" but when we called and asked them to replace some bags that housekeeping took (without our permission) they said it was late and that they would have to find staff available to bring them to us. That took over 1 hour- so "any thing at any time" is not necessarily true. But overall, it was an acceptable experience.” Jun 5, 2008 by
Jillian from Vernon Hills, IL
“Overall a good hotel, but you really need to leave the hotel and eat elsewhere. It was way too expensive to eat there and that was a bit of a disappointment.” Jun 4, 2008 by
Robin from Coral Springs, FL
“The hotel was fantastic other than the size of the room. They should not even call the room a double. If you have to climb over the bed to get to the closet window etc., you know youre in trouble. Great staff! Very helpful and friendly. Fantastic location and views of Rome.” Jun 4, 2008 by
John from Frisco, TX
“Upon arrival the wonderful service began. Friendly and helpful staff got us to our room and made us feel at home. When leaving the hotel the doorman always made sure that the cab driver knew exactly where to take us for our tour drop off. The room was clean and kept that way by a cleaning staff that we never saw. Location was excellent. We would stay there again, no questions asked!” Jun 2, 2008 by
Vida from Las Vegas, NV
“I will highly recommend this hotel to anyone. I like the location the staff was very friendly. The service in the lobby and the restaurant on the six floor was wonderful.” Jun 1, 2008 by
Cheryl from San Leandro, CA
“Expected a 5-star hotel. The first room they gave us was terrible, dinky corner room - couldn't even open the bathroom door all the way - scuffs and marks on the walls- We complained and they moved us to another which was better. but still not what I would consider five star - even in Europe. We stayed in six different hotels over our three weeks - all four stars - all nicer and all included wonderful breakfast buffets - unlike this one.” May 31, 2008 by
Kevin from Victoria, BC CA
“We can recommend this hotel for its great location and its walking distance to many major attractions. We would also like to commend on the excellent service of the hotel's guest relations especially Marco who made certain that our stay was memorable. We had contacted the hotel prior to our departure (transatlantic cruise from Miami due to our anniversary) and a bottle of Prosecco was delivered to our room with compliments of the hotel. We highly recommend the American breakfast. We understand the hotel will undergo major renovations in the fall and our room (though clean) will definitely benefit. Our star rating is based on European standard.” May 27, 2008 by
Caragh from Hoboken, NJ
“It was fantastic, great location, awesome rooftop bar, comfortable bed, service was excellent.” May 26, 2008 by
Jens from Dallas, TX
“On the first few elegant setting, but our room was relatively small, the walls and the carpet were covered with stains, scratches and other traces of long usage. The bath room however was in relatively good shape. The restaurant in the patio is extremely beautiful, but the service is not up to the standards of a 5 star establishment. The prices in general are prohibitively high, but do not match to the services provided.” May 22, 2008 by
Ravi from Belmont, CA
“This hotel is in a great location with easy walking access to most of the major attractions in Rome. The hotel was pleasant overall but I do think it would benefit from some light updating/refinishing. There were numerous old water stains on our ceiling, some large gaps in the tile in the bathroom, and the carpets were showing their age. The staff was helpful when asked questions but they did not have the level of enthusiasm that I have experienced at other deluxe/luxury hotels. Most of the aforementioned are minor details, I would gladly stay at this hotel again on my next trip to Rome!” May 20, 2008 by
Joan from Cordillera, CO
“I think this hotel has seen better days. It could use a renovation. Also, Via Sistina near the steps where the hotel is located has a lot of construction going on and is not particularly attractive.” Apr 27, 2008 by
Gordon from Calgary, AB CA
“For the tourist, this hotel is in a great location. The staff were very accommodating. Parking is limited and very expensive. Room service food is just ok. Overall our experience was great and we would recommend this hotel.” Apr 25, 2008 by
Kristoffer from Washington, DC
“Very nice hotel in a wonderful location. Room service and breakfast poor.” Apr 20, 2008 by
Patrick from Valrico, FL
“The location is great just a few yards from the top of the Spanish steps and the Spagna Metro stop. The staff is extremely helpful and always ready and willing to help you. The room was of average size by American standards but roomy for European standards. The bathroom was huge by European standards and was all marble and beautiful. The shower/bath had a normal shower head and a separate handheld shower head that could both be used at the same time. We loved this hotel!! Only wish the Wireless internet was free.” Apr 7, 2008 by
John from Bethesda, MD
“Lovely stay.” Apr 4, 2008 by
Tony from Lakeway, TX
“This hotel is in major need of a renovation, both in front desk staff and facilities. My introduction started off on the wrong foot as I was checking in next to an angry French man, then the front desk clerk tried to up-sell me to a room on a high floor, which I declined only to find that we were already booked into a room on the top floor (sleazy attempt to get more money out of me). The hotel was very busy and always cluttered with luggage and people everywhere. There was a noticeable odor throughout the hotel that I found somewhat offensive. The room was cozy and comfortable, but in general need of renovation.” Apr 1, 2008 by
Angelo from Cranston, RI
“The hotel is in a great location, the rooms were very cleaned and the concierge was very helpful.” Mar 10, 2008 by
Christiane from Amherst, MA
“This hotel is in a great location and it's architecture is was you dream of when you think of Rome. With its beautiful outdoor patio and garden with a fountain. Right at the top of the Spanish steps. Great service and luxurious rooms.” Jan 31, 2008 by
Diane from Cincinnati, OH
“We wanted to stay at Central Rome and it was a marvelous location. We had stayed at the Grand Flora for 4 days the previous week and I liked that they had coffee in the lobby in the morning. We always left early to start our day and never had time for breakfast and coffee is a must. The Intercontinental was very nice but the room was tight to walk around the bed with two people. We were in room 410. It did have a balcony which was lovely and overall it was an excellent choice for our last two evenings in Rome. I would highly recommend the hotel.” Jan 24, 2008 by
Victor from Boston, MA
“This is a fantastic hotel in a fantastic location. Much more reasonably priced than the hotel next door and with the same quality of service. Hotel roof patio and lounge were comfortable. Concierge staff is very friendly and helpful and go the extra mile to help you enjoy Rome. Highly recommended.” Jan 24, 2008 by
Peter from Concord, NC
“A great place to base your stay in Rome. The staff are attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly.” Dec 13, 2007 by
Chad from Sarasota, FL
“The hotel was nice and the staff very accommodating. However, this hotel would be great if listed as a four star and not a luxury five star. I paid for what I thought was a five and only got a four star hotel. Also, for a supposedly five star hotel in Europe, I should have never gotten a king bed that was actually two twins put side by side. Very uncomfortable seem down the middle. I understand this is common in Europe, but not at a luxury class hotel.” Dec 12, 2007 by
Larry from New Orleans, LA
“Room was great, bed soft and with linen high quality, public rooms need to be refreshing.” Dec 12, 2007 by
Edgard from West Chester, PA
“Great location, a very clean property and a beautiful old building. There were no newspapers and very few amenities. Lobby is not really nice. On top of that, it charges local phone calls at a very high price per minute (more than a euro a minute). This is stealing without shame.” Nov 21, 2007 by
Mike from Denver, CO
“Great location, but the size of the room and the bathroom was quite poor. Definitely not 4 star for my room.” Nov 16, 2007 by
M&M from Sheffield Lake, OH
“The hotel was wonderful. We ate several meals there, and it was very good. The room was small but very comfortable and clean. Nice view of the courtyard outside the window. The location is great. There are 136 steps on the Spanish steps, so you have to do a lot of step climbing, but it is located by all of the great shopping. We walked everywhere from the hotel. Staff was very friendly and helpful. We would recommend, and stay there again.” Nov 15, 2007 by
John from N Easton, MA
“Terrific location, excellent service, very comfortable king bed, good amenities, was upgraded to a balcony room for our 30th wedding anniversary, they left champagne for us upon arrival. Concierge recommended excellent restaurants (all close by). We paid a higher price than we normally do when we travel, but it was well worth it.” Nov 8, 2007 by
Rick from Philadelphia, PA
“Overall, this was the most comfortable hotel I stayed at in Italy, even though the room was the smallest. I think this hotel is closer to a 4 star than a 5.just doesn't cut it with all the competition in luxury hotels out there.” Nov 2, 2007 by
Faye from Chicago, IL
“After traveling throughout Italy and staying in different hotels, we were very pleased with our rooms and the amentias the hotel offered. This hotel is a gem!” Oct 25, 2007 by
Robert from Phoenix, AZ
“5 star staff. Great internet. The beds were fantastic! Best location in Rome.” Oct 10, 2007 by
Gabriel G. from Mercer Island, WA
“Got a very nice room for the other 3 nights of our stay after spending a night in a room that literally did not have space to put away shirts and underwear.” Sep 18, 2007 by
Tom from Chicago, IL
“The hotel De Ville intercontinental has a lovely old world charm with new improvements in the rooms. It has a wonderful terrace overlooking room. Its location is a ideal; just above the Spanish steps.” Sep 2, 2007 by
Shahra from San Diego, CA
“Staff was very nice, good location right above Spanish steps above via condoti (the upscale shopping street). While we did not mind going up and down the hundreds of steps, I could see it being a problem for some visitors. Rooms were clean, but a bit too small for the price and the star rating. Depending on your room location, your view could be very nice or overlooking an ugly construction area (we had 2 rooms one faced the right way and the other very bad view). overall experience was positive.” Aug 20, 2007 by
Charles from Toronto, ON CA
“Location can't be beat. Rooms are small. Almost every service in the hotel is charged (22 euros for internet access, you must be kidding!) but it is still great because of the location.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Aug 19, 2007 by

“Good value and comparatively high quality for hotels in Rome. Seemed rare to find a hotel in Rome that was comparable to those in the United States in terms of luxury.” May 28, 2007 by
Marianne from Oakville, ON CA
“For the price we paid, it was good value considering how expensive hotels are in Rome. Located at the top of the Spanish steps, close to bus routes, lots of little cafes and shops. Staff was very nice. Our room was quite small but we expected this based on previous reviews.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.May 23, 2007 by
Becky from Springfield, IL
“Nice location, but the rooms were very tiny, even by European standards. The furnishings showing signs of wear as well.” May 19, 2007 by
Michelle from Farmington, UT
“Location, location, location--top of the Spanish steps in central Rome; walking distance to it all. Staff all spoke English and was helpful. Pricey but overall very good.” May 11, 2007 by
Marjorie from Limerick, AZ
“Hotel is in fantastic location, you have fab restaurants very close to the hotel. It's a bit quiet in the night there. The food and drinks are a total rip off don't eat or drink there. The metro is a 1 minute walk so that was great too.” May 9, 2007 by
Stu from Bloomington, MN
“I have stayed at inter continental hotels before, this hotel did not meet the standards of previous hotels in the chain.” Apr 30, 2007 by
Darren from Bellevue, WA
“Less than 10 euro from the train by taxi and near the Spanish steps. Convenient by foot to great shopping and trivia fountain.” Apr 2, 2007 by
Joann from Philadelphia, PA
“The staff at the de la vile goes out of their way to accommodate all guests and all requests.” Feb 24, 2007 by
Mike from Daly City, CA
“The hotel staff was excellent and the accommodations of the hotel were relaxing. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was a decent size. However, the room size in general was pretty small for the price. However, this is likely in all the hotels in Italy. Claming up and down the Spanish steps to get to/from the hotel was a bit taxing on the body, but, be prepared to do a lot of walking in Rome anyhow. This hotel was pretty close to all of the main attractions.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Feb 23, 2007 by
