  • Public spaces were very nice. Staff was efficient.
  • Probably the worst bed we have ever experienced in any hotel.

“Overall, a very nice hotel, but our room was in bad need of paint, so even though it was very clean, the impression when you looked at the walls was shabby. The bed was pathetic. As with most king beds in Europe, they are two long twins pushed together. However, the edges on these were very hard, so you needed to avoid the center. One side was extremely hard and rather lumpy. The other side was better, but still, in order to sleep on it, we had to strip the sheets off, put the comforter on the mattress, then remake the bed on top of that in order to get any sleep.”

  • Payment for upgrade in room and extra bed for children. Initial smell in room.

“A good hotel that met with our expectations. It was in an excellent location in central Rome close to the nearby Subway. Bathroom was first rate and bed was clean and comfortable with good comforter. Downside was paying extra Euros for room upgrade (in size) and to accommodate a bed being placed in the room for children (we were 4 people). Excessive charges for phone were annoying. The initial smell in the room was strong and from daily use of spray which was not used to rest of the stay.”

  • Excellent staff and location. The Manager upgraded us to a suite for our last night at no additional charge.
  • Our room was a shoebox!

  • We liked the location and the staff who were very welcoming & helpful especially the duty manager, front office manager, concierge.
  • We liked everything.

  • Friendly staff, located at the top of the Spanish Steps, dedicated concierge.
  • Housekeeping cleaned our room even though the 'do not disturb' sign was up and disposed of items that we needed.

“Staff failed to notify us that we could access the hotel via a nearby Metro station with an elevator, which caused us to hike up the Spanish Steps every time we went to and from the hotel. They have a button on their phone that says "For anything at any time" but when we called and asked them to replace some bags that housekeeping took (without our permission) they said it was late and that they would have to find staff available to bring them to us. That took over 1 hour- so "any thing at any time" is not necessarily true. But overall, it was an acceptable experience.”

  • It had a wonderful view of the city from the Patio Bar. The staff was very friendly and helpful.
  • The size of the room was very small. Could not open the mini bar with out lifting up the bed.

“The hotel was fantastic other than the size of the room. They should not even call the room a double. If you have to climb over the bed to get to the closet window etc., you know youre in trouble. Great staff! Very helpful and friendly. Fantastic location and views of Rome.”

  • The staff was absolutely customer service oriented. Pleasant, friendly, & helpful!

“Upon arrival the wonderful service began. Friendly and helpful staff got us to our room and made us feel at home. When leaving the hotel the doorman always made sure that the cab driver knew exactly where to take us for our tour drop off. The room was clean and kept that way by a cleaning staff that we never saw. Location was excellent. We would stay there again, no questions asked!”

  • Only that the Euro is so high. The price to travel to Rome is higher than I expected.

  • No breakfast included.

“Expected a 5-star hotel. The first room they gave us was terrible, dinky corner room - couldn't even open the bathroom door all the way - scuffs and marks on the walls- We complained and they moved us to another which was better. but still not what I would consider five star - even in Europe. We stayed in six different hotels over our three weeks - all four stars - all nicer and all included wonderful breakfast buffets - unlike this one.”

  • Location is outstanding, top of Spanish steps.
  • Hotel room needs cosmetic upgrading.

“We can recommend this hotel for its great location and its walking distance to many major attractions. We would also like to commend on the excellent service of the hotel's guest relations especially Marco who made certain that our stay was memorable. We had contacted the hotel prior to our departure (transatlantic cruise from Miami due to our anniversary) and a bottle of Prosecco was delivered to our room with compliments of the hotel. We highly recommend the American breakfast. We understand the hotel will undergo major renovations in the fall and our room (though clean) will definitely benefit. Our star rating is based on European standard.”

  • Nice location, some comfort.
  • Room was small, carpet and walls are quite dirty or worn out.

“On the first few elegant setting, but our room was relatively small, the walls and the carpet were covered with stains, scratches and other traces of long usage. The bath room however was in relatively good shape. The restaurant in the patio is extremely beautiful, but the service is not up to the standards of a 5 star establishment. The prices in general are prohibitively high, but do not match to the services provided.”

“This hotel is in a great location with easy walking access to most of the major attractions in Rome. The hotel was pleasant overall but I do think it would benefit from some light updating/refinishing. There were numerous old water stains on our ceiling, some large gaps in the tile in the bathroom, and the carpets were showing their age. The staff was helpful when asked questions but they did not have the level of enthusiasm that I have experienced at other deluxe/luxury hotels. Most of the aforementioned are minor details, I would gladly stay at this hotel again on my next trip to Rome!”

  • The most comfortable bed and excellent bathroom. Staff service was exceptional.
  • We had to pay 23 Euros for 24 hours of wireless internet service.

“The location is great just a few yards from the top of the Spanish steps and the Spagna Metro stop. The staff is extremely helpful and always ready and willing to help you. The room was of average size by American standards but roomy for European standards. The bathroom was huge by European standards and was all marble and beautiful. The shower/bath had a normal shower head and a separate handheld shower head that could both be used at the same time. We loved this hotel!! Only wish the Wireless internet was free.”

“This hotel is in major need of a renovation, both in front desk staff and facilities. My introduction started off on the wrong foot as I was checking in next to an angry French man, then the front desk clerk tried to up-sell me to a room on a high floor, which I declined only to find that we were already booked into a room on the top floor (sleazy attempt to get more money out of me). The hotel was very busy and always cluttered with luggage and people everywhere. There was a noticeable odor throughout the hotel that I found somewhat offensive. The room was cozy and comfortable, but in general need of renovation.”

  • Superb location with warm atmosphere in lobby and room.
  • Room small for a 5 star, coffee in room or lobby a must and did not have.

“We wanted to stay at Central Rome and it was a marvelous location. We had stayed at the Grand Flora for 4 days the previous week and I liked that they had coffee in the lobby in the morning. We always left early to start our day and never had time for breakfast and coffee is a must. The Intercontinental was very nice but the room was tight to walk around the bed with two people. We were in room 410. It did have a balcony which was lovely and overall it was an excellent choice for our last two evenings in Rome. I would highly recommend the hotel.”

  • It was slightly difficult to find all the amenities in the building (terraces, etc.) but that is probably because of its age.

  • The staff was customer friendly.
  • The business center is listed on their wed site as complimentary. When getting to the hotel there is a hefty charge.

“The hotel was nice and the staff very accommodating. However, this hotel would be great if listed as a four star and not a luxury five star. I paid for what I thought was a five and only got a four star hotel. Also, for a supposedly five star hotel in Europe, I should have never gotten a king bed that was actually two twins put side by side. Very uncomfortable seem down the middle. I understand this is common in Europe, but not at a luxury class hotel.”

  • Hotel charged an abusive price for a few (around 5) local call (average 2 min).

“Great location, a very clean property and a beautiful old building. There were no newspapers and very few amenities. Lobby is not really nice. On top of that, it charges local phone calls at a very high price per minute (more than a euro a minute). This is stealing without shame.”

  • 400 years old so very beautiful, top of Spanish steps.
  • On busy street.

“The hotel was wonderful. We ate several meals there, and it was very good. The room was small but very comfortable and clean. Nice view of the courtyard outside the window. The location is great. There are 136 steps on the Spanish steps, so you have to do a lot of step climbing, but it is located by all of the great shopping. We walked everywhere from the hotel. Staff was very friendly and helpful. We would recommend, and stay there again.”

“Terrific location, excellent service, very comfortable king bed, good amenities, was upgraded to a balcony room for our 30th wedding anniversary, they left champagne for us upon arrival. Concierge recommended excellent restaurants (all close by). We paid a higher price than we normally do when we travel, but it was well worth it.”

  • Rooms were too small- it was not a 4 or 5 star hotel expectation

“Staff was very nice, good location right above Spanish steps above via condoti (the upscale shopping street). While we did not mind going up and down the hundreds of steps, I could see it being a problem for some visitors. Rooms were clean, but a bit too small for the price and the star rating. Depending on your room location, your view could be very nice or overlooking an ugly construction area (we had 2 rooms one faced the right way and the other very bad view). overall experience was positive.”

  • I did not like having to climb the Spanish steps every time I wanted to leave and return to the hotel.

“The hotel staff was excellent and the accommodations of the hotel were relaxing. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was a decent size. However, the room size in general was pretty small for the price. However, this is likely in all the hotels in Italy. Claming up and down the Spanish steps to get to/from the hotel was a bit taxing on the body, but, be prepared to do a lot of walking in Rome anyhow. This hotel was pretty close to all of the main attractions.”

  • Lounge area needs a bit of maintenance of furniture, better music.
