“I know the beach is federal property in front of the resort and we were not there during peak tourist season, but the beach was very dirty and unappealing so we stayed at the pool. The gov't. Or the resort needs to clean up all the plastic, etc. so it looks much more attractive. Otherwise, the facility was excellent.” Jun 2, 2008 by

“It is a nice hotel for comforttable price. The food price for event not worth the money.” May 30, 2008 by

“Great location, by the beach but no view to the ocean and they close down the swimming pool by 10 pm too early if you ask me!” Jan 5, 2007 by

“Clean, nice, family-oriented, well maintained and somewhat expensive. Has small mini-mart on complex so you can buy your own food/drinks etc.” Apr 19, 2005 by

“We enjoyed our stay at Villa del Palmar. It's not the fanciest place, but the room was clean and spacious and we enjoyed sitting around the pool. The location is excellent--close to the Marina area and Downtown and Old Town.” 3 of 3 people found this review helpful.Apr 17, 2005 by

“We were nagged constantly by the staff to go to a Time Share sales pitch. They would not leave us alone, and when we told them we were not interested in a Time Share, they were very rude. I have been to Mexico many times and expect the Time Share pitch on the streets outside my hotel, but I was shocked by the level of annoyance inside the hotel.” 4 of 5 people found this review helpful.Apr 14, 2005 by

“Overall very pleased. Staff was helpful and friendly. Air conditioner worked which is rare in Mexico, in my experience. The combination of the kitchenette and close grocery stores makes it easy to save some money on dining out. Room was very clean and no musty smell so typical of Mexican hotels. My only complaints: water pressure was spotty, even zero at times; hot water was lukewarm, and the fitness center was not available due to construction. Overall were very happy with our stay.” Feb 21, 2005 by

“The price is good but everything else was lacking. In order to get a chair by the pool or on the beach, you needed to get your towel the night before and put it on the chairs. Otherwise, you won't get a chair! We managed to get one the very last day we were there. The beds are very uncomfortable. The room was clean though nothing special. The restaurant was terrible - don't recommend eating there. There is a wonderful French restaurant just down the road. Who knew we'd eat mostly at a French restaurant in Mexico! The location was good - just a short bus or taxi ride to old town. Wouldn't recommend this hotel.” 2 of 2 people found this review helpful.Jan 31, 2005 by

“Very nice hotel. Lots of staff on site working around the clock to keep up the premises. Great swimming pool with a water slide in the middle, the kids had a lot of fun. The supermarket was 2 blocks away so we were able to stock up the fridge in the room. There was also a grill on the property that the guest could use. Bus station right in front of the hotel. We had a very good time!” 3 of 3 people found this review helpful.Jan 21, 2005 by
Carla from Portland, OR “When we got there the Villa Del Palmar was sold out, so they put us in the less expensive counterpart, next door. The person checking us in was also acting strange about the whole thing, didn't believe we had a reservation b/c they were sold out, and made us go to the internet cafe down the street and print out our confirmation letter(which we have done to begin with, but the cafe we made the reservation in, the printer was broken). Anyway, it ended up working out, and the room was nice, it just wasn't exactly what you said it would be.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Dec 2, 2004 by
Mikhail U. from Mountain View “When you are a guest at a hotel, you expect the hotel to be "on your side". That is, you expect them to at least provide you with helpful information (about restaurant, trips, etc). Unfortunately, Villa del Palmar views its guests as nothing more than walking wallets, and everything there is set up to try to pry as much money out of those wallets as possible. In that sense, the atmosphere at the hotel is very hostile--you feel like you're on opposite sides of a money game, as if the hotel is in cohuts with other local businesses, not with their own guests. The waiter frowns when you order only one drink. The concierge tries to send you to the most expensive restaurant or the most expensive tour. Here's another example. Having just arrived from the airport, we were very hungry, and spotted a vending machine out of our room window. but couldn't find it. When we asked the concierge, they denied that there was a vending machine anywhere on the grounds. Only after we insisted that we saw it from our room did they tell us how to get to it--apparently it's not for "guests" but for employees, the guests having to paying 4 times the price at the hotel market/deli. Villa del Palmar's beach has underwater rocks on their beach. These rocks are annoying when the tide is high and extremely dangerous when the tide is low. Most people walk over to nearby beaches (thankfully, it's just a few steps away) in the afternoon, when the tide is low and the underwater rocks render the beach unusable.” 3 of 4 people found this review helpful.Sep 30, 2004 by
