“I was traveling on business for 10 nights with a club room reserved. After an 11 hour flight from the states, I arrived at the hotel at 10 am. I was told rooms were not available until the official 3 pm check in time. However, if I paid 30 pounds, a room would magically become available for immediate check in. The front desk would not budge on this - either pay now or wait 5 hours. This is the third time I stayed at this hotel this year. I did not encounter this issue previously. If this is how this hotel is going to treat its business travelers, I'll choose to go elsewhere next time. This is a very poor business model in order to try to generate more revenue. They may have gotten 30 pounds out of me now, but for my next 10 night trip to London in January (and every quarter) , they aren't getting my business.” Oct 23, 2009 by
Carolyn from Sacramento,CA
“The room was quiet and clean with appropriate amenities such as small refrigerator, and enough room for a small table and chairs. With more people having i phones and the like, a hotel of this type should offer free Wi-Fi at lease in the lobby or bar. Having to use computers that are L1 per 10 minutes is just a way of nickel and dime for the guests.” Oct 23, 2009 by
Michael from Sierra Vista,AZ
“This is a hotel that is safe and clean. It is in a really great location. Near some decent restaurants and 3 in walk from the High Street Kensington tube station. The only drawback is the outdated furnishings, but this is minor. I would recommend this hotel, especially for the price.” Sep 17, 2009 by

“The hotel forgot my wake up call! Never mind that they represented themselves as a 4 star (maybe 20 years ago it was), but now it is at best a 2 star, but any flea bitten motel even makes wake up calls! This one didn't and they didn't even apologize for it. The hallways smelled like turpentine and the bathroom in my room smelled like mold. They covered the bathroom walls with plastic panels to make it look new, but it was very plain to see and smell that it wasn't very fresh or clean!” Sep 17, 2009 by

“The lobby and restaurants are nicely maintained, they forgot about the rooms. The bathroom had obviously been flooded, but rather than fix the problem they covered up the moldy walls with paneling - but I could very plainly still smell the mold in the room! One night we ran out of toilet paper and the staff didn't seem to think that it was a problem! How hard is it to see that the roll is running out and leave an extra roll in the bathroom? An investigation into why I ran out of toilet paper does not help the situation!” Sep 17, 2009 by

“Hotel was very functional, restaurants and bar were fine for business meetings.” Sep 7, 2009 by
Kelley from Arlington,VA
“Very helpful concierge, fairly good location and comfortable rooms.” Aug 24, 2009 by
Ann Caden from Toronto,Canada
“Good location in an upscale area. Lobby and common areas are attractive. The restaurants and bars are good. The convenience store in the lobby is handy. The cab stand at the end of the driveway is very useful. The theater tickets desk is another handy perk. The actual guest rooms need updating. The bathrooms are really out of date and somewhat moldy. The beds themselves are small i.e. a double or two singles per room. The mattresses are saggy and lumpy and the pillows are virtually flat. The common areas are 4*, the guest rooms are 2*.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Aug 22, 2009 by

“Hotel is in desperate need for a rehash. The old plumbing fixtures in the bathroom are scary. I haven't seen separate hot and cold taps in years. The sink was gurgling. When someone next door turned on their water, our tub started to spurt something black. We would never stay at this hotel again.” Aug 17, 2009 by
Dan from Portland,OR
“This is a great hotel for the price and I would definitely stay here again. Very safe, very clean. Great service.” Aug 17, 2009 by
Brooke from Apo,AE
“Nice, but seems a bit worn. Gift shop purchases had dust on them. Flowers in lobby also dusty. I emailed them before my trip to confirm a double room and they emailed back that they had a room reserved. I took that statement as answering my question but when we arrived we were told we had two single beds. We were in London to celebrate our anniversary and the rudeness of the front desk and the deceit of not honestly answering my email soured my view of the hotel instantly. We had to pay a bunch more money to upgrade to a queen deluxe because they had no more doubles available.” Aug 10, 2009 by
Glen from Salinas,CA
“It's were they book the airline crews.” Jul 24, 2009 by

“Good business hotel. Clean and friendly, but without atmosphere. Good area for local shopping and eating but a long way from tourist attractions.” Jul 4, 2009 by
Dick from Hudson,WI
“This hotel is a good choice, was a convenient location, close to the Tube and shopping. The price was unheard of for an upscale London Hotel.” Jun 25, 2009 by
Shirley from Princeton,NJ
“The hotel room does not look like that of a 4 star hotel. It was fine with me since I spent most time attending a conference. The location was nice, and the staff were very helpful.” Jun 22, 2009 by
Katie from Akron,OH
“The hotel was a good value for the price. The lobby and public areas are very upscale, but the rooms were not. The room and bathroom were quite small.” Jun 9, 2009 by
Don from Toronto,Canada “The hotel does a lot of trade in bus tours and the like, it is not service oriented and almost everything is offered as an extra-fee service, from the exercise room and on.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Jun 7, 2009 by

“This hotel was in a great location, literally around the corner from a tube and bus stop. Nice part of town, very easy to walk around at night and feel safe. The staff was great, helpful with organizing everything that we needed. I'd certainly stay again.” 0 of 1 people found this review helpful.Jun 4, 2009 by

“Good hotel with friendly staff. Nice quiet location with easy access to city centrum. Good selection of shops within walking distance.” Jun 1, 2009 by
Lori from Garrett Park,MD
“This hotel was a nice place to rest our heads. We had two twin beds that we pushed together. The maid service did a nice job cleaning the room.” May 24, 2009 by
Sherry from Clifton,VA
“This was a tourist hotel. Request a room facing the front which were quieter. The ones on the back side had train noise from the tube trains running above ground. The bathrooms had old fixtures that required you to use two spigots, a hot & a cold that must be mixed together in the sink for warm water. The tub was very tall and might be difficult to enter if you are older or have mobility issues. It was very difficult to plug in your own hairdryer from the US (with the large safety plugs)The outlets were too close to the floor and hard to access. The staff was very accommodating and quick to respond to requests.” May 22, 2009 by
Amy from Beaverdam,VA
“Not much of a view outside but okay hotel if you don't stay in it much. Like a low budget Holiday Inn.” May 17, 2009 by
Rick from Richmond,MI
“The room was dirty: extremely outdated, dirty carpet, extremely uncomfortable bed and pillows. They charge 10 pounds per 24 hours for the internet. Windows were so dirty that you could hardly see the trains as they passed by making constant noise. Other than location, I cannot say much good about the Tara.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.May 16, 2009 by

“It was an older hotel but clean. They were very helpful in helping us get where we wanted to go.” May 14, 2009 by

“Very good location. Probably only 3 min from the Tube. Lot to do just around hotel.” Apr 21, 2009 by
Priscilla from Osprey,FL
“The Tara-Copthorne Kensington is in a very convenient location. Not an awful hotel but definitely not 4-stars. Lobby is very tasteful. Rooms are standard size for London, I've seen smaller. Furniture is out of date and not in very good condition. Our bathroom was clean except for the floor which was covered in previous occupants hair. Our room happened to be on the side above the rail tracks so it was very loud at night.” Apr 14, 2009 by
Donna from Wyoming,MI
“Very nice location, close to tube station. Nice area for shopping. Beds were adequate, but nothing fancy.” Apr 11, 2009 by
Tariq from Atlanta,GA
“Good location, and very convenient for public transport. House keeping needs to be more responsive.” Apr 11, 2009 by
Gerry from Irvine,CA
“The Copthorne Tara far exceeded our expectations. Just 3 minutes to the underground and high street. Staff was extremely cordial. Would definitely stay there again.” 0 of 1 people found this review helpful.Apr 10, 2009 by

“The room looked worn and tattered. The shower curtain was dirty. There were no electrical outlets in the expected locations (near bed and desk). We had to move furniture to get access to electrical outlets. The cost of internet was over priced. The restaurant served quality food, but it was over priced. Had to pay $40 to park car for one night.” Apr 8, 2009 by
Bob from Walden,NY
“The location of the hotel was next to a tube stop which made getting around London easy. Additionally, the neighborhood was pleasant and safe. The hotel itself had a helpful staff but the rooms left something to be desired. The furniture was old and beat up and the bathroom was not clean when we first entered the room. It was fine everyday after that. Also , the temperature control took a long time to work and the room was often very hot.” Apr 4, 2009 by
Gerry from Hampton,VA
“From the outside of the htel, you would think not so great, but once you walked into the doors is was very nice, clean and the people were very friendly and very helpful with helping us find our way around London. The rooms were very nice and large (from UK standpoint) and very clean, the beds a bit soft, but after being out for 10+hrs. It felt very good. I would defiently go back to this hotel again.” 0 of 1 people found this review helpful.Mar 30, 2009 by

“Really disappointed, 1970s bathroom. We asked for a double bed but got two singles, and for the money you are paying purely for location. The Miss World contestants used to stay at the Tara Hotel, but now you'd be hard pressed to get Miss Bradford there.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Mar 29, 2009 by

“Hotel location a plus, hotel itself was overrated, a bit dated but still clean.” Mar 19, 2009 by
Daniel from Limerick,AE
“The rooms are clean and comfortable, although a little tired and dated looking. The lobby and public areas are good quality. The breakfast restaurant and breakfast itself is good. The dining options are limited. The only time I ate there (in Bugis Street Chinese) it was not good. But there are plenty of alternatives locally, for example, in nearby Earls Court. By far the best thing about this hotel is it's convenient location. Less than a minutes walk from High Street Kensington underground station (tube) and Kensington High Street itself, it's location is unbeatable.” Mar 16, 2009 by
Kelly from Tyrone,GA “This hotel has all of the amenities that are expected from a 4 star hotel. The area around the bathtub was rotting away from the tub overspilling. The room was small, the TV was small and the two beds were both singles.” Mar 15, 2009 by
William Stanley from Sarasota,FL
“We have stayed here several times and have always been happy with the rooms and service. We especially like the location.” Feb 10, 2009 by
Paula from Fresno,CA
“Excellent location, clean rooms, friendly service, but a bit run-down.” Jan 12, 2009 by
Paulette from Pleasanton,CA
“The location and service are exceptional. The concierge desk was extremely helpful and responsive to all our requests. The lobby, restaurant and bar are very attractive and the service was exceptional. Our rooms were clean but needed updating, like a fan to avoid mildew in the bathroom, updated fixtures in the bathroom, better room insulation and new windows. This is definitely not a 4 star hotel but it turned out better than we expected.” Jan 2, 2009 by
Kevin from Beechhurst,NY
“Superior locaton with helpful staff and Dec 24, 2008 by
Hannah from Las Vegas,NV
“Hotel staff was very helpful and friendly. Location is great for shopping, buses, restaurants, and tube access. Hotel is rather old and so it felt stuffy, even with the air conditioner unit running, but was good enough for my husband and I who came to London to sight-see and not to be pampered. I would recommend this hotel for the price-conscious tourist or business person.” Dec 18, 2008 by
Bob from Apo,AE
“This hotel is convenient to the High Street Kensington underground station. The corridors have worn carpet, there is an unpleasant odor in the corridor. One side of the building faces the underground tracks, so the noise from the trains is disturbing. Rooms have only British electrical sockets. Holiday Inn near Gloucester Road tube station is much better facility.” Dec 18, 2008 by
JoAnn from Lexington,MA
“Much need of repair, old and musty.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Nov 29, 2008 by

“Overall I was fully satisfied with my stay, although I do not agree that this is a 4 star property by any measure.” Nov 6, 2008 by
“I was misled to believe that I was buying the room at a 4 star hotel. This hotel cannot be classified as 4-star for a number of reasons. Oct 29, 2008 by

“Not a four star hotel. The only thing this place has going for it is its location. The building is falling apart and the interiors are beyond worn out. The lobby is nice and new but that's it. Moldy carpets. Cigarette burns everywhere. The rooms back on the London Underground train line so you hear rumbling from around 6am until near midnight.” Oct 22, 2008 by

“Staff of the Copt Horne Tara was all very helpful and friendly. Housekeeping, however, is not thorough. This added to the old worn out furniture and carpeting, adds up to a very unclean feeling in the room. There was a mouse or rat in my room on last night of stay.

“Loved the location. My mom and I felt very comfortable walking alone at night. Hotel is just 5 minutes off of High Street Kensington where there are lots of shops, restaurants, and the bus and tube stop. Staff at the guest desk was very friendly and helped with booking tours and answering every question we had. A bonus is that most tour companies provide complimentary pick up at this hotel. Food in the brasserie is a little pricey but so is the rest of London. The room was surprisingly spacious like what you would find in most American hotels. Beds were nice, but the comforter really made it super comfortable. I will definitely stay here again.
