• no bed turn down or curtains closed

• Quiet and friendly. Good, quick efficient service in the Dining Room. Short walking distance to local shops and several Banks
• Only one tea bag in the room. It would have been better if I could have also made a cup of tea later in the day

“That there was no lift up to the second floor but the staff were very good and carried it up for me as I am elderly. The steps up into the hotel, down to the cloakroom and up to the second floor were not really disabled friendly.
It was good that there was space provided for the smokers of this world. I dismissed all non smoking hotels when I booked thro the internet.”

• A lovely relaxed atmosphere, individual style of furnishing, not standard 'eggbox' hotel style.

“I had already visited this hotel on a conference, and had been so impressed that I wanted to come back as a weekend guest. I was not disappointed - everything about the hotel (service, ambience, location) was absolutely excellent. In particular the food was of a very high standard - well beyond, in my view, what you would normally expect to find in a hotel, and more reminiscent of a high-quality restaurant. The deal whereby hotel residents get '10 off the price of dinner represents exceptional value. Staff were notably friendly and helpful, while also being highly professional.”

• Well presented room
• No chef on duty on Sunday morning - no choice of fish for breakfast

“The hotel was clean, quiet and comfortable. I liked the choice of magazines to read in the lounge and we had a pleasant night in the bar with my son and friend when we first arrived. There was some hesitancy in giving me a slice of lemon with my drink - I should have liked the bar service to be a little slicker.”

“We know Hayley's from when we lived in Leeds because we got married there. We were placed in the same room we had on our wedding day which, even though probably coincidence, was a wonderful surprise and pleasure. The hotel is so different to corporate standard box hotels that we usually stay in on business trips - it really does feel like, as they say in the brochure, you're in a country house even though you are in the city. We ordered a bottle of wine for our arrival which was waiting for us and actually served properly in the room by one of the staff, rather than just dumped for us. Great. Most surprising was that the decor appeared to be exactly the same as during our wedding 6 years ago but wasn't decaying or peeling or looking old at all.”

• Clean, well maintained and a warm and homely feel

“The staff were superb. They kindly arranged for me to have a later a check out time and were always polite, friendly and helpful. They couldn't have done any more!!”

• Comfort,privacy and period decor.
• Disturbed by what sounded like maintenance work ( hammering ) in the room next door between 23.00 and midnight on 17.09.2004. We were located in the Garden Room.

“We enjoyed our stay and the wedding of our nephew.

Two small areas for improvement we would suggest :
1 Worn cutlery.
2 Chipped crockery.”
