• The rooms were very spacious and the beds were very comfortable.
• We did not like the location, as it was outside of the main area in Athens; however, the hotel did offer a complimentary shuttle bus to the centre.

“This hotel provides excellent services, however, given that it is a five star hotel, most of the luxuries require additional costs or charges. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable. It seems the hotel caters more to the business traveler rather than the leisure traveler. But we still enjoyed our stay and the service by the staff was excellent. The only complaint we had about the hotel was its location, as it is about a 30 or so minute walk to Syntagma Square, the main square in Athens. The good thing is that the hotel offers a complimentary shuttle bus to and from the square to accommodate guests for the location. The hotel is basically in a more industrial part of Athens.”

“We really enjoyed our stay, Georgia (business center) was a great help, went above and beyond. The staff on the 8th floor club was all very accommodating and friendly.”

• The rooftop restaurant, the pool, and the free shuttle to the city center.
• Not in the city center.

“We had a great time in Athens thanks to this hotel. The rooftop terrace restaurant was wonderful and one of the most beautiful views in Athens. We didn't make it to the pool, but it looked beautiful. Free transfer to the city center which helps because it is kind of on the outskirts. Very friendly staff.”

• Though very close to tram, a little further away from central sights.

“Nice quality - lives up to what you'd expect from this chain. Room was very spacious - included a nice sofa sitting area. Appreciated amenities including ironing room, free fitness center - these not always found for free in other Athens hotels.”

• The concierge desk was very helpful in answering questions and giving us local guidance.
• Our room was really dated-looking. It didn't match the upscale look of the rest of the hotel.

“The hotel has some great pluses and a few minuses. The location is not particularly convenient to any sort of mass transportation and the shuttle bus to the nearest major Subway stop is not convenient. If you were having a large meeting or convention, the public areas are very nice but the rooms are dated and boring. The television doesn't work well and the internet access is wildly over-priced when it shouldn't be priced at all. It should be included. The food in the cafe was uninspired and the restaurants always seem to be closed. There's very little in the neighborhood - no restaurants. It feels very isolated.”

• Staff was polite, spoke English, and the van was great to drop you off in other areas.
• The room carpet and walls may need some refurbishment.

“This is a large hotel on one of the biggest streets in Athens. It is not convenient for walking to many things, but the van drops you off in better areas. It is convenient to take the train from the airport, but not the local trams. We stayed with an infant and the crib they provided was clean and in good condition. The concierge was very helpful.”

• In hotel dining far too expensive for the average American.

“Although this hotel is out of the way from the tourist sites and attractions, the complimentary shuttle deposits you right in the middle of the action. Easy to walk to the Acropolis, the Plaka, central to the subway- just excellent! The hotel was clean and comfortable and although there was not complimentary breakfast and the hotels was far too expensive to purchase, the concierge gladly helped me find a grocery store and bakery nearby. Beautiful pool for hot Athen's days. I HIGHLY recommend this hotel!”

“Overall, it was a pleasant experience. Staff was nice. Bedding was twins so I wasn't really pleased about that but we were able to check in early getting off a cruise which was a big plus. Had buffet breakfast in dining room. Very overpriced and omelets maker was pathetic. Took her over 20 minutes to prepare and then made it wrong!”

• The door man who has been there and Manos the concierge period.
• No maid service 2 days.

“As I travel 100+days a year, they need customer service training, you can talk with folks who have been there 10-20 years and they will tell you also but they know their jobs to the T.”

• Excellent quality rooms and pool. Given a non-smoking room as wanted.
• Breakfast was very expensive (30 Euros), so we always ate out.

“This is a nice business hotel with a good pool for guests with children. It is not very close to the main sites, but a shuttle makes it very convenient. The area around the hotel is not enjoyable for walks since it is near a very busy road. The cost of breakfast was prohibitive for families or anyone not on an expense account. Staff were helpful for restaurants.”

• Concierge was excellent in recommending places to see, eat and how to get from place to another. Excellent gym.
• Too big. The room was very warm.

“Overall the hotel was great! The staff was friendly and always willing to help, especially the concierge who provided us with excellent places to eat, things to see and how to get there. The restaurant on the top of the hotel was excellent and had a beautiful view of the acropolis. The gym was nice too.”

“The front desk experience could have been more friendly. I was not able to utilize the swimming pool due to limited hours. The location of the hotel is poor with regards to Subway or airport transportation. The rooms were pleasant and well furnished, relatively quiet. Internet services should be free as they are in many finer hotels.”

• Excellent rooms.
• Pool closed early (around 7 PM) and could not be availed. No other facilities provided. Far from town.

“The hotel has excellent rooms and service though amenities were lacking. The pool closed early and there was no workout room. Late night room service was sub-par as the hotel was understaffed during those hours.”

• Modern, large rooms and big bathroom - especially for Europe!
• Location of the hotel was not so great. Seemed like a shady area.

“I cannot imagine finding a nicer hotel in Athens than the Intercontinental. The rooms were large, modern and comfortable. On the downside, the drinks were very expensive and it was not in a nice area for walking. It was nice to provide a shuttle to other areas of town.”

• The bathroom amenities.
• Location was too far from central - Syntagma square.

“Cons: - The location of the hotel was too far from the central Athens area, there was a shuttle, but it was not frequent, and started to late in the day for our purposes. The closest Subway (Syngrou-fix) was across a highway on-ramp without a crosswalk - crossing was dangerous to say the least. - The interior design of the room was outdated- The pillows were uncomfortable - had to call down to the front desk for a new pillow. Pros: - The bathroom was recently renovated, and very smartly outfitted- The shuttle was quick and reliable, though service was infrequent- The staff were very helpful with questions about transit.”

• It had a pool, great breakfast.
• Dated.

“The Intercontinental Hotel is on Sygrou Avenue, one of the busiest roads in Athens (24/7). I was unfortunate enough to have a room which was facing the avenue, and I was awaken by the traffic noise. The hotel itself is very clean, with superb rooms and a pool. Also it has a Spa facility which I did not use though (260 Euro for 2 hours). It also has a restaurant which faces the Acropolis (although it was closed for renovations). Great Breakfast with enormous selections and good quality.”

“This is a quality business oriented hotel. The facilities are excellent, although pricey. The rooms are very large and great quality. Amenities in the room such as robe, slippers, and quality toiletries are very welcomed. The location of the hotel is not terrific, although they offer a free shuttle to the centre of town.”

• No airport shuttle.

“Beautiful and clean hotel with that classic European luxury that you don't always find anymore. Has very expensive shops that are fun to stroll through. There was a shuttle that takes you back and forth to the center of Athens, Syntagma Square. There is a subway stop at Syntagma also. There isn't much around the hotel to walk at, but at least we had the shuttle that ran until 10:30 pm or so. Had to take a taxi back if out later. Which we usually were. There is a kiosk (little convenience shack) right outside the hotel where you can get drinks and snacks as well as a SIM card for your cell phone to use it in Greece.”

“A true 5-star hotel in Athens. Location of the hotel was not near to any of the major sites, however, the quite neighborhood location works well. Service at the hotel was excellent. Room was standard size, however, it felt more spacious and comfortable than any other room I have stayed in. An excellent value and experience all around.”

• Inspite of the distance to Constitution Square at least there was a hotel bus.
• The distance to the downtown area.

“Because of the price we paid the view from the room was non existent. I guess had we paid more we would have had a room with a view, however the room itself was fine and upto the standard of the hotel.”

• Had to pay for breakfast although told that I wouldn't have to at check-in.

“Excellent 5-star hotel in a great location. Renovated, clean, spacious, quiet and luxurious rooms. Very comfortable mattress and choice of pillows! Extremely fast service when a problem was encountered with the AC. Very disappointed when I found out I was charged for the breakfast when I was clearly told at check-in it was included in the price. Manager was polite and understanding but not helpful since he blamed it on the staff but made no attempt to reimburse me!”

• A little too far from the Plaka but they offer a regular shuttle bus.

“Room with acropolis view was nice but view required extra expense. Internet access fees were 25 euros per day. Lower priced "leisure" hotels provide free internet access. Cigarette smoke permeates everything. Tram stop is a 5 minute walk from the hotel. Pool was closed for the season even though it was warm. Staff was very friendly and attentive. Rooms were nice and clean. Double windows blocked outside noise, but could hear noise from hallways.”

• The rooftop bar is truly spectacular and prices seem reasonable compared to London or Paris.

• The pool was under renovation.
