• Amazingly helpful staff.
• Not close walking distance to any stores.

“While not close to any shops grocery stores, for example, this place was wonderful. They had smoking rooms, to my surprise and glee, and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Their IT staff even authorized my x box 360 for their network so I could kill time in the evenings. The room was clean, the bed was very comfortable, and the commissary had cans of soda for fifty cents.”

• The customer service was poor, they were short staffed.

“When we got to the room the toilet was backed up & they wouldn't send anyone to fix it, they offered us a plunger so we could do it ourselves.”

• The gentleman at the counter was wonderful even thought I checked in at 2 a.m.
• Loccation was a little confusing as was getting to the parking lot from different directions.

“I loved it. I was visiting my son in the VA Hospital and this was a great location. The grounds are clean with a Starbucks close by. The next time my boss comes out for his visit, I will have him stay here instead of Gurnee.”

• Rooms are very nice and honor pantry downstairs with free washer and dryers were nice.
• Would be perfect if it had a pool and hot tub and restaurant with bar.

“Stayed just one night but have stayed here before. About 3 miles from Great America and 20 minutes from Dairy land Dog Track which is where we were going.”

• I liked the kitchenette - it helped provide a meal other than fast food.
• The fire alarm in the room had a low battery and beeped all night.

“Over all it as a very simple hotel with not many amenities - it was great to have a kitchen. It was clean somewhat okay decor. But we really came in late and wanted to get to bed. We were in bed when the fire alarm started to beep - indicating the battery was low. It was above the bed. We figured sleep or have someone come in and stand on our bed and replace the battery. We just tried to ignore it.”

• Refrigerator, microwave, pantry, and work out very nice.
• I had to wait 15-20 minutes for the desk clerk to come when checking in.

“Very nice hotel with nice amenities, nice location, and quiet. Desk clerk must not have forwarded her phone to her cell while she was away from the desk. Frustrating not being able to check in when I had my children and friend waiting for over 15 minutes.”

• Rooms were clean, and modern with a kitchenette. The hotel is located is a quiet, safe location.
• We like everything about it.

“This hotel is in a safe, quiet location which would be great for fellow Gold Wing motorcycle riders. The rooms were spacious, clean and modern. The kitchenette was handy with the stove and refrigerator. The beds were comfortable. All the public areas were clean and modern. I would definitely stay here again.”

• Entrance and exits are only one way because of a curb.

“Over all the hotel is great and also gave us a military discount without us having to ask. Also they have free movie rentals and a honor system 24/7 small store with just about anything you would want at great prices.”

• I liked the convenience of having the "store" for necessities.
• Seemed to be more for the extended stay business, no pool.

“Nice place to stay, would have liked a pool, close to Gurnee mills mall, did not have two bed rooms although they had a pull out sofa, full kitchen.”

• Liked being checked in and out quickly.
• Loud everywhere, including banging on the walls from other beds!

“No services at all, its a room with a loud frig that sounds like some old fart snoring. With the headboards banging on the walls, frig snoring and people yelling in the halls, we bought ear plugs. I have made a mental note never to stay in any suites again and to always find a place like Marriott with a pool.”

• The bed was very comfortable.
• When I checked in the sink had not been cleaned and maintenance had to come and fix it.

“I had received different information about when I could check in from different staff members prior to my arrival. When calling for check in availability there was contradicting answers there when I arrived and was asked to come back even though I had given them an extra hour before showing up in the first place. When I checked into the hotel I had to wait for 20 minutes while the two staff members ignored my presence. When I got to the room, the sink was full of hair due to a clogged pipe. Then the cleaning lady walked right into the room without knocking. We were not fully clothed at this time. Then maintenance came (knocked first) and fixed the sink. The rest of the stay was perfect. There was a store on property that we could charge to the room that was a great feature.”

“Motel was OK, but they wanted $40.00 to upgrade to two beds. Standard accommodation was a queen size bed was too small for me & my partner. I'll make sure to avoid a Candlewood in the future.”

• Asked for 2 beds (or cot) and they didn't have them.

“Asked for 2 beds as was traveling with 14 year old. Pictures on website show room with separate living room with sofa bed. Got to hotel and only had one 'queen' (really a double) and a recliner. When asked for a cot, was told they do not have them. Very disappointed.”

• Really liked the little store that was hooked with the workout/gym.
• My room started to smell a little like mildew upon entry. But front desk checked it out.

“This hotel was easy to find and there was plenty of parking. The cleanliness of the hotel was very good. They had free video and DVD rentals as well which was very new to me for a change. Hotel staff was very friendly. The location was great and very easy to find. I definitely recommend this one.”

• I liked that the room had a small kitchen in it, very nice so you wouldn't have to eat out all the time.
• Just that if you were driving in from the south there was no entrance, you had to turn around somewhere.

“This hotel was very nice. The room had a small kitchen with many things you would need to cook and eat. They had a nice size refrigerator, stove, dishwasher, microwave, coffee pot and even a garbage disposal in the sink. The rooms where very clean and where a good size. We only stayed one night but I would definitely recommended this hotel to anyone traveling more than one night. The bathroom was also a nice size.”

• Poor access from road, uncomfortable, small bed.

“This newer hotel had an oversize room which made room for a nice kitchenette. We were told all the suites had queen size beds, but the bed was "springy" and not very comfortable. With a supply of food on the honor system and a variety of movies to check out made the stay enjoyable.”

• Close to the Great Lakes Naval facility for Navy graduation.
• One bed for a single mom and her 16 yr old son.

“Shower curtain smelled of mildew. Unidentifiable stain on bedspread. This hotel has only one bed per rented room. Please take it off your list as I requested 1 room with 2 beds and you still stuck me with this place. No maid service unless you stay 5 days - had to take our own trash out. No swimming pool. Would not stay there again.”

• I liked the convenience of the Candle wood Cupboard.
• They do not have rooms with two beds. There were three of us. Extremely disappointed.

“I liked the Candle wood cupboard, the complimentary movies and laundry facilities. Candle wood Suites do not have rooms with two beds, so my son had to sleep on the floor. They did not even have roll away beds. Exercise facility was also very nice. Staff was helpful and friendly.”

“This is the 2nd time we stayed here. This time was much better because we knew how they operated (no maid service, few amenities, etc). We were better prepared so it was more enjoyable. Great for a "sleeping" room.”

“The Candlewood Suite in Chicago Waukegan was all that I could have wished. I was made to feel comfortable and welcomed. I give this hotel SUPER GOOD rating for afford ability and quality.”

• The price, room size and cleanliness were great and most of the staff was fabulous.
• I wish it had a pool or hot tub and late checkout was not easy to achieve.

“We live locally and needed a place near home while work was done, this was convenient and for the price was terrific. We have stayed at most of the local 2 or 3 star places in the last couple of months and this was the best value for the accommodations by far.”

• It offers free video and books during your stay. The exercise room is very convenient. And having a kitchen in the room is a plus.
• It is hard to gain access to the parking lot.

• The room was very comfy. Plus there was a small kitchen where you could prep small meals.
• You have to make a couple of U turns in order to get to the hotel.

“This hotel was very comfortable. The only bad thing is that you only get one queen sized bed. So, you better be cozy if you are traveling with someone.”

• The entrance is very limited , it's only one way in and out. so that force us to make you turns.

• The hotel was clean and nice. The hotel staff were very helpful in giving us a map of the city and pointing us in the direction we needed to go.
• The cleaning staff didn't clean on a daily basis. In our two days stay, they didn't come to clean or empty the trash receptacles at all.

“The hotel was clean and was close to the Naval Base. I would recommend this place to all who would be traveling in the Gurnee, Waukegan area in Chicago.”

• Updated, Clean, Secure.
• Front door opening for bringing luggage in on cart a little tight.

“Overall we were very pleased with our stay. The kitchen area that came with the suite was perfect for our situation. Despite having the kitchen area taking up some space, this room ( a studio suite one of their smallest) was still very spacious.”
