• Location.
• The pillows smelled like mildew.

“It was OK, but that's it. I'd say it's a one-star motel at best. The halls smelled from cooking food, the pillows smelled like mildew, the TV didn't work when I came into the room and when I called downstairs about it the desk clerk told me to reconnect the cable to the DVD player. So I had to pull out the very heavy TV and figure out what the problem was. Finally, when I told the clerk the some kind of whining noise was coming from the vent in the bathroom, she told me she could have maintenance look at it "tomorrow." That was no help in terms of sleeping in a quiet room tonight since I would be gone tomorrow.”

• They have an "honor system" good if you dont have cash on hand.
• Smoking rooms, bed not big enough and bad location.

“The lady checking me in was rude and gave me a smelly smoking rude telling me thats all they have. Twenty minutes later while I was trying to connect to the internet, I called the front desk and guy answered I asked him to change me rooms and he gladly did. Overall not happy with this hotel and would not stay here again.”

• It has kitchenette where we can heat our left over food.
• Its very dirty, smells like Indian food. We had to request another room.

“I will not recommend this hotel to anybody. Its old and very dirty. We had to request for another room because upon check-in, there was strong smell of Indian food. Under our beds, there were lots of crumbs, carpet was very dirty. This hotel needs to do a lot of updating.”

• Very close to train station.

“I have stayed at this hotel once before and the trains pulling in and out at night was a little loud. This time I was a bit more at ease with the sound and the hotel manager tried to get me a room on the other side of the hotel that does not face the train tracks. My daughter loves staying here! They have a food pantry where you can buy items on the honor system and you can check out movies to watch (my daughters favorite part)!”

“Although the room did lack ambiance it was very comfortable with nice linens, a wonderful kitchenette. I would only add wireless internet to my desired features in the room.”

• Location near Santa Clara University was great.
• Smoking room was horrible and hall was very noisy.

“I'm glad I only had to stay here one night. Drunk people in the hallway, dogs, loud families that seemed to be living there permanently and my room stunk to high heaven. I had business at Santa Clara University the next morning-and the location was very convenient to the school, but that's about it for the high points.”

“Clean, nice hotel with studio-like rooms (kitchen etc). Slightly on expensive side for me but u can save money by eating in rather than out. Right next to Santa Clara transit station with rail and bus. 20 min. ride to San Jose Downtown or airport by bus # 22 or 10 respectively.”

• The hotel would be a great place to stay with children because of the kitchenettes and DVD library.
• The fact that it is located next to a train station.

“If you are a light sleeper or use to a lot of noise through the night, then you would be fine at this hotel. It's very nice hotel with VERY comfortable beds. It's good for long stays with kids if your family can sleep through the trains.”

• Had hob and the room was very clean?
• No pool, air-conditioning made weird noises.

“The staff was very friendly and it is in a very safe neighborhood. There is no pool and the gym is kind of pathetic. The room smelt like a dentists office when you first walk in and if you turned the heat on it smelt like something was burning. The water there is horrible; it looks like you are pouring milk into your glass when you are getting water from any of the faucets, even the one in the kitchen.”

• The smell of others cooking creep into our room.

“Overall the hotel was great for the price. Not much to the hotel. Just good for the room only. Only downfall that since there was a kitchen in the rooms. We could smell the meals being cooked from nearby rooms. It wasn't a good smell. Indian type food not our taste or smell.”

• Comfort of the beds and arrangement of the room were very high quality.
• The hotel was undergoing extreme remodeling at the time, and things were in disarray.

“I thought the hotel met my standards, and contributed to the overall smoothness of my visit. I surely would stay at the Candlewood Suites again. And the bagel store nearby was top-notch!”

• Great bedding! Huge cushy towels! Upgraded kitchen utensils, pots and pans.

“This is a fabulous hotel. The room is very large (I had a queen), includes a full kitchen, free Internet access. Right next to the light rail and Caltrain station, but never once did a train wake me up! Rooms are quiet, spacious, and comfortable. The bed is to die for! Fabulous bedding. Starbucks and Quiznos right across the parking lot.”

“Candlewood Suites is located conveniently close to free transportation to and from the San Jose International Airport, as well as bus lines to downtown. Next door are Quiznos, Starbucks and a Bagel store making quick meals easy. Taxis are also available right out front.”

• Front desk staff could have been friendlier.

“My family loved our stay at this hotel! On Wednesdays, the hotel throws a free BBQ for their guest which was really nice. Also, there is a little mini mart in the hotel with a wide selection of foods and snacks. This hotel also has a great laundry room with free washers and dryers. This hotel was wonderful!”

• Very easy to get to from San Jose Airport and Cal Train station.
• They "lost" the reservations of several people in our group.

“These are suites designed for extended stays; full kitchens and queen beds are the only options, which may be more than weekend travelers need. Housecleaning service is only once a week, not on weekends. No restaurant, game room or pool.”

“I spent one night at The Sheraton and then one night at Candlewood, and Candlewood was so much better. It featured amenities that the Sheraton didn't have like free internet access, a recliner in the room, a full kitchen, free popcorn in the microwave, a VCR/DVD player, a Starbucks across the street, laundry facilities, and for all you rail fans, a cool view of some freight and passenger trains (which by the way, didn't disturb my sleep). The room was spacious and clean and the bed was comfortable. I'd come here again!”

• Room was great; liked having the DVD/VCR combo and the kitchenette with supplies.

“I was in a room with a single queen bed, kitchenette, recliner, and large desk. The room was spacey and well laid out. I would stay in the San Jose Candlewood Suites again and plan to specifically look for and stay at other Candlewood facilities in the future. In all honesty, no other hotel chain has struck me as positively as Candlewood.”

• It was very clean, they had free video/DVDs to watch, gym very friendly staff, and the cupboard was stocked w/ sodas and snacks at a reasonable price.
• one of the towels had dried blood on it but the hotel staff took care of it fast also it is in Santa Clara not San Jose.

“This hotel was wonderful the beds were cleaned and comfortable they provided free DVD and videos to watch kids liked that complimentary popcorn. Room was very clean, clean enough to let my baby crawl on. Staff was wonderful and the whole experience was wonderful.”

• The room smelled and the refrigerator was loud.

“It was kind of hard to find. It was behind other buildings and couldn't be seen from the main road that the address was on. The room had a pungent smell to it. The breakfast card was kind of confusing. We weren't sure if the breakfast was free (as in a "free continental breakfast") because on the other side of the card it said food was available to purchase in the country store so we assumed the breakfast was not free. The refrigerator in the room made a loud noise when it ran and it was hard to sleep with it running. The trains blowing their horns outside the window were kind of nice (if you like that kind of sound!). Other than that it was a very nice place.”

• The bed was very comfortable.
• They only have rooms with 1 bed. The shower head worked very poorly and was off-center.

“Located next to Santa Clara University and the train station. Rooms are set-up for 2 people, some have sofa sleeper. Bathroom has been redesigned and shower was poorly done.”

• The location of the hotel is close to so many restaurants, stores and close to downtown of the city.
• Is la little bored to people of Spanish Speaking because they don't have TV Spanish channel.

• The refrigerator makes too much noise all night long.

“Very nice will choose this hotel again. I was a bit put off by the noisy refrigerator in the suite and the trains that pass by, but more of the in room fridge making noise. I would however recommend this hotel to friends who meet in San Jose monthly. We will return.”

• Quiet, Very Comfortable and convenient to the area. Of all the places my wife and I stayed we rate this #1 on all points!
• There is nothing we did not like about staying in The Candlewood suite.

“Upon arrival we were pleased at the clean and efficient room layout and it's private space. It was like home and we felt very comfortable and romantic. We have spread the word and many of our friends will be staying there.”

• The room was clean.
• There were NO rooms without more than 1 bed. We couldn't upgrade & couldn't get another room at anywhere near the same price.

“This hotel is great for business travelers or married couples ONLY. This hotel has only 1 bed in ALL rooms and is not at all geared towards families. I thought that a "suite" would be good for families to make meals and snacks more casual than eating out.”

“The Candlewood Suites were wonderful. The location was quiet, the service suburb and they took wonderful care of me. They offered much more than I was expecting. I plan to stay again the next time I have to travel to the area. I can find it now.”

• They offer free movies.
• Next to Amtrak Station, lots of noise. I could not sleep.

“The only problem with it is that it is located next to Amtrak Station at Santa Clara, and there are trains passing by 24/7 making lots of noise.”

• Convinient, comfortable, and good central location during this time of expensive gas.
• Increase from one to two or three days house keeping service. It is some what poor.

“The hotel is in the center of the town with a nice building and rooms. Has sufficient recreational equipments. But I want to advice them some more days of house keeping. Once a week is not enough if you spent more days because the room can get dirty easily when you cook and use bathrooms especially with family. Beside that I enjoyed my time in this hotel.”
