• The staff was very friendly and the resort was very beautiful.
• The only thing I didn't ice was that when we went to our room, the carpet was wet. I guess they just cleaned the carpet and didn't let it fully dry.

• The hotel was great but the spa was rude.

“We were very happy with the hotel and view we had, people with the hotel were very friendly and helpful, but the spa was not. Someone arrange a spa treatment with them for us but, we did not know about it. They would not work with us at all. They left a voice mail on our hotel phone with no number to call back to and were very rude when I did get hold of them. Not business like at all. I would not recommend the spa, because of there attitude.”

• The pool cafe was expensive, the food and service were poor. Terrible crab sandwich.

• Has great potential landscaping etc.
• The staff put us up in a wing of the hotel that has not been completely remodeled.

“This hotel is the former Kona Surf in south Kona, Keahou The location is very picturesque but out of the main stream tourist up north. That did not bother us. It's still a romantic and quite site, beautiful property. What did bother us is the hotel staff put us in a room in a wing which hasn't been completely remodeled. Perhaps they are going to convert this section to a Vacation Timeshare at some time. The hotel needs a decorator's touch and an infusion of capital and creativity. No imagination given to the decor here.”

• Staff at the front desk was so accommodating and considerate to my wife's handicap needs as well as valet parking attendants.
• Too big and spread out. No beach on the hotel.

“Overall, we would recommend Sheraton Keahou Bay hotel. As mentioned above, hotel staff were excellent in meeting way over our expectation in hospitality and promptness in responding to our needs. Specially, Sally Kihara at the front desk and Kumu, the parking attendants were pleasant to talk to and accommodated all our needs at the hotel. Ricardo also got my wife a wheel chair for all 7 days of our stay. They are to be commended for their super hospitality and gave us great feeling of staying again at Sheraton when we visit again next time.”

• Grounds & pools were lovely, free upgrade to partial view & extended checkout time.
• Parking $10/day, Internet connection $10/day, room bottled water $4.50, charge for 'covered seating' poolside - nickel & dime charges add up.

“For the business traveler, looking for accommodations convenient to airport, this hotel well located. South of the swimming beaches and a short drive into 'town' it's out of the busy hub of traffic and tourists. The grounds and pools are very tropical & well maintained - the whole place successfully pulls off a cruise-ship atmosphere. Tennis courts, swimming pools (with slide & volleyball), ping-pong, pool tables; there's something for everyone who's tired of island exploration.”

• The pool area offered many options for play, slide, volleyball, basketball, tennis.
• We called in advance to secure two beds and were given a king on arrival, also, couldn't get extra pillows, hotel halls need upkeep.

“We had the best time in this area, which had everything for us, great pool, tennis, jogging, fitness room, dining, shopping, and close to Kona. I would love to stay there again, even though they mixed up our room and we were told they ran out of pillows and we couldn't get extras! The hotel needs better upkeep since the halls look run down and our door lock broke.”

• The hotel should have informed us that the 6 hour drive to the volcano was worthless as the park shut down the part with and volcanic action.

• Excellent upgrade! Hotel could not accommodate our family to what we needed, so they upgraded us to the presidential suite!
• The pool was not heated and was too cold. We had to call the front desk several times to obtain cribs and roll away beds.

• Watered down their drinks. Although plenty of nice rooms were available, we were given an out of place corner room.

Not a way to impress and invite future stays. The clerk at the desk was not at all friendly or helpful. Do ever plan to stay a Sheraton again.”

• Even basic rooms are large and very comfortable, great views and friendly staff.
• Although it wasn't too far of a drive from Downtown Kona, there was not much else within walking distance.

“Overall, we really enjoyed our stay here. The rooms were very clean and comfortable, the amenities were great and the staff was very friendly. The only problem we had is they seemed a little too lay back during a large storm during which our lanai flooded and water started to seep through the door into our room. Once this was brought to the attention of the appropriate staff, they quickly addressed the situation and offered to move us to another room. We left to go to the volcano for a couple of days, and when we came back to Kona we stayed here again with no problems and enjoyed it. I would be happy to stay here again.”

• Just enough employees to make it full service without being over intrusive.
• Did not have a local, Hawaiian, feel, except for the employees.

“The employees were all very friendly and helpful and gave you a big "Aloha" when you walked up or even passed them in the hall. The hotel could have a more tropical, local feel in that it was very sterile like and not too festive. The hall way to the room was dimly lit and a bit too dark even in the daytime. It was very clean especially the public restrooms. Overall a very nice resort.”

• The view from the pool area was amazing!
• Common areas seemed a little run down.

“Stayed overnight while visiting Kona area. Beautiful view of the Pacific sunset from the pool area. Great pool with slide! My kids would have loved it. Sorry they missed it on this trip. Would definitely go back.”

• The views are great and there is plenty of pool area.
• It was a little farther off the beaten path and there is no airport shuttle.

“Got this hotel at the last minute. The service was good. Hey, it's Hawaii, people are friendly. It is a great family vacation spot or a couple getaway spot. Not the best for singles. A little too far for partying in Downtown Kailua-Kona and trying to drive home with a beer in you. Also got lost first night trying to find it because the signage for the road you to turn down to get to it are not as well labeled as they should be.”

• The room was not 4-star; it was more like 2 star hotel room.

“The hotel was located in beautiful site but the room was nothing like 4-star hotel. It was more like 2-star hotel. And they had inoperable elevator which was very inconvenient and did not bother to fix it for the entire week we stayed there! It was sort of disappointing experience in terms of the room amenities. We would not stay there again.”

• The pool area was wonderful and the manta ray viewing area was unique. We enjoyed the breakfast and seafood buffets.
• Elevator in our wing was broken for several days and the daily parking and internet access fees are not justified.

“We could not have been more pleased with this resort. It was conveniently located and the facilities were wonderful. The breakfast and seafood buffets in Kai were outstanding. We would not hesitate to stay here again.”

• It's a very attractive resort in a beautiful setting. The staff was very helpful as well.
• The rooms are not as "resorty" as I expected. Also, I was in a room that was between the ice machine & elevator, so it was noisy.

“If you want a quite, family friendly hotel, this is a good location, if you are traveling solo or want to have entertainment, not the best choice. Overall, a reasonably priced, comfortable hotel nothing special.”

• Stunning location, exceptional staff, pool that is about 450 feet long and goes between 2 buildings, manta rays, incredible hotel.
• Leaving.

• The staff made a mistake and the manager more than made up for it.
• No beach.

“My wife and I had a wonderful vacation at the Sheraton. The staff forgot to clean our room and leave fresh towels. The manager went out of his way to make things right. Definitely would stay here again.”

• The first room still had old foods in the fridge; door on balcony couldn't lock because lock not aligned with hole in the wall: a known issue.

• Comfortable open air style hallways with beautiful pools with a rock waterfall feature, waterslide, and spa. Friendly, professional staff.
• Older bathroom, but clean. Daily parking fee.

“Hotel is beautifully located on the water with gorgeous sunsets. Open air design is perfect for this location. Walking path around the grounds is perfect for a morning stroll. Basic rooms include a mini-fridge, balcony, tea, and kona coffee. The open atrium overlooking the pool with rock waterfall feature is impressive. Shopping, restaurants, and spa on site. This location had all the amenities expected of a resort and spa. Bathrooms could use updating, but are clean. Sting rays feeding at dusk I was told is a site to be seen. I was so busy with other activities on the island that I missed this, but when Im in Hawaii again, I would definitely stay in this hotel.”

• To many charges, for example nightly charge for crib.

“Room was not very clean, spider webs and lanai had a huge puddle with mildew that was slippery for our 1 year old. They charged for everything possible, parking, crib, etc. Food service delivered our drinks which weren't even cold and our food was not hot. Will not be returning to this hotel. The pool was the only highlight of our stay.”

• Very spacious rooms and lanais. Great resort with nice pools. Manta Rays swim in bay outside hotel at night.
• Nothing.

“Excellent hotel, convenient to Kailua-Kona area. Staff was excellent and very courteous. Rooms are spacious, huge lanais with good views from most all rooms. We had a garden view but about 30%+ of our view were ocean as well. Hotel sits on about 30 acres and very immaculately maintained. At night, lights are shined into Keauhou Bay so you can watch the Manta Rays. Very cool!”

“This definitely didn't meet the bill. The reviews did not match the hotel whatsoever. There's no beach access. The rooms are terribly furnished and dark. The pool is far removed from the ocean. The building structure itself is ugly. I would not recommend the hotel. North Kona is much more preferable.”

• The pool and overall grounds were amazing.
• The bathrooms needed to be updated.

“Overall the Sheraton Keauhou is an ideal place to stay near Kona. The rooms were fairly recently updated and are spacious and clean. The bathrooms are clean but in need of an update. The pool grounds were amazing and had wonderful ocean views. Highly recommend people check out the manta ray viewing from the bar area.”

• Housekeeping staff was friendly.
• It took too long and complicated to get to attractions like the manta ray viewing.

“It was still the old Kona surf. I could not see where they made any extensive renovations. Check in staff made us go all around the buildings to get to our room when they could have given simple directions and we could have saved walking time and distance. Our wing was just ahead of us. They made us go through 4 wings to come back almost to where we started. My mom uses a cane and that was not helpful to us.”

• The room and bedding were not as clean as I would expect from a 3-star or resort level hotel.

“The pool area is great for kids including the 200 foot slide. There is no beach access. The casual dining food is fairly expensive. The room itself was not as clean as I would have expected. The Luau (which I am not a particular fan of) was entertaining.”

• Needs a place to get a quick informal meal which is not really just a bar.

“Industrial scale quasi luxury. Main lack: Needs more and varied dining options. Long and distant climb down and back to use one's car if not springing for valet parking. Friendly staff. Very nice room and lanai. Well landscaped grounds.”

• The hotel was neat and clean with comfortable beds.
• The hotel was very noisy during the night and early in the morning.

“The hotel was very clean and had comfortable beds. The pool area was very nice and the sunsets were fantastic. There were lots of kids running around the hotel unsupervised sometimes very early in the morning, which was not ideal for the relaxing romantic vacation we had envisioned. Overall the staff was friendly. The one drawback is that it is quite a ways away from good swimming beaches so be sure to rent a car.”

• The grounds were nice and roomy.
• Missed cleaning room for two days & rude when asked why room was not cleaned.

“Decor was not characteristic of a 4 star hotel. The grounds were very nice. The cleaning staff missed cleaning the room two days in a roll. When asked why, the woman replied rudely that the hotel was large and things like that just happen sometimes. The room had a commercial toilet which was very loud when flushed. The last point was this resort is about 5 miles away from where the shops and restaurants are and not convenient unless you drive.”

“My wife was on crutches because an accident in Honolulu. When we got to the hotel, the porter (or doorman) saw her crutches and asked what happened then just walked away because he thinks that we probably wouldn't tip him if he helps us move our luggage, which are quite a few. It is not much to ask for a wheelchair or helping out in anyway. Shame on Sheraton! Then no one comes to clean our room and change sheets and towels the second day we stayed there and kept saying that they were saving water because of the dry season. I can understand saving water but it is not much to ask for a few new towels and a simple make-bed service for the price I am paying. I had to specifically asked for new towels and making-bed on the third day. If your hotel staff doesn't do these things, what are you hiring them for? The last thing, the cooks in their restaurant cannot make a Buffalo wings, we sat and waited for almost an hour then the waitress came to tell us that the Chef screwed up the last portion of the Buffalo wings. And there is no compensation like a free drink while we kept waiting for another 30 min for the food. Well, how bad is your chef that he or she couldn't even make the Buffalo wings right.”

• The location was wonderful. Room comfortable and clean. Pool was great.
• The recent renovations were great but you can tell the overall hotel is still a bit dated. Mattress was also a bit worn and didn't support as well.

“A great hotel in a prime location. Ocean front views are spectacular. Rooms have been upgraded though the mattress wasn't supportive enough. They upgraded us to a higher floor and better view on request. A wonderful surprise is that they allow you to store your bags after checking out and use a hospitality room afterwards to shower up and change. This was a huge plus that we haven't experienced before at another hotel. The pool was nice and the grounds were beautiful.”

• Loved the manta ray viewing, water slide & pools, variety of activities offered. The bed was super!
• Didn't have a single complaint!

“We don't usually stay at resort level hotels, so this was a total treat. Even though the main restaurant was upscale, we were able to eat at the pool-side cafe reasonably, so you wouldn't have to go into town. ”
