“Loved the feel of the hotel - wonderful entrance - clean / shiny / beautiful large chandelier.” Sep 27, 2009 by
April from Greenfield Twp,ME
“My son had to be at the area hospital very early in the morning, so we needed to spend the night before in Portland. This hotel was the closest to the hospital and sounded good according to the listing. We found out when we got there that we had to pay $17.00 per night to park, so the price all together was actually more than some of the other hotels we could and should have stayed at. We were placed in an older section that was not updated and had a really old bathroom that reeked of smoke. When trying to brush our teeth before bed the sink would not drain. The Internet also did not work (I'm not too sure if it ever does).” Sep 5, 2009 by
Eric from Presque Isle,ME
“Perfect pick priceline! GOOD JOB! Very impressed!” Sep 2, 2009 by
Gordon from Newton Highlands,MA
“Portland's Eastland Park is an attractive, comfortable hotel ideally located near the city's art museum, best restaurants and waterfront. Rooms are on the small side with awkwardly placed power outlets, but the plush beds, above-average decor and view of the city make this a destination worth repeating.” Aug 24, 2009 by
Harry from Montreal,Canada
“Stay away - sleazy, seedy, scuzzy, no parking, no pool, crappy exercise room, need I say more?” Aug 23, 2009 by
Amy from Hampden,ME
“We loved the Eastland Park Hotel, our room was very spacious, even for us with two small children. We had a corner room with wonderful floor to ceiling windows on two sides with great views of the park and city. As you might expect with an historic hotel the bathrooms were on the small side and I didn't like having to pay for parking. Overall it is a very nice hotel and I would return.” Aug 23, 2009 by
Cindy from Holley,NY
“After reading bad reviews about this hotel, I was worried. I felt we got a fair deal with the price through priceline. I would have been upset if I had paid more. The parking rate was unfair. But, we did enjoy our stay. We didn't really ask for anything from the hotel, except a clean room. We got a really spacious room with a nice view.” Jun 16, 2009 by
Paul from Hopkins, MN
“This is hotel is a cross between a great old hotel and an old dorm room. The closet seems bigger than the bathroom in our room. The room was large and it looked like most rooms were large on the floor plan but each room had a different footprint, this is not a cookie cutter hotel. Our room had a view of air conditioners and the $16.60 parking garage if you get your ticket stamped at the front desk, parking is not included. The toilet paper was rationed, bathroom mirror hung for kids, towel hanger hung for giants, bathroom door couldn't lock, closet light burnt out, TV reception was bad, TV remote had trouble with the distance from the bed to the TV, fitted sheets undersized for the bed, location must be by a homeless shelter. Heating and cooling is an problem for this hotel as the room has many windows between the heat/AC, the bed and the unit is undersized/poorly placed, noise from hallway was noticeable but not from outside the hotel. This hotel needs more maintenance staff that care about their work and first class products to put in. Tips for your stay. Elevator buttons are for display, real ones on the other side of the pillar (should be behind a framed window). Parking on street is ill advised by the hotel and me, I got a ticket for $25 at a poorly marked meter. I would give this hotel 1 1/2 stars but with new owners or a makeover it could go as high as 3 1/2.” May 14, 2009 by
Barry from Lakeville,MA
“Hotel staff was very pleasant. Parking was charged extra. Older hotel with history, well maintained but not pristine. Was very pleased with Priceline price.” Mar 22, 2009 by
JP from Trumbull,CT
“This hotel was OK. The staff is polite. The room was not a three star experience. Not having a room at checkin (6:30pm) was very disappointing.” Nov 25, 2008 by
j e from Merrimack,NH
“This hotel does not offer parking (parking is in a separate facility that charges and does not offer in/out privileges). I did not expect to have to pay an additional $15 for parking and this really changed the cost of the room considerably.” Nov 20, 2008 by
Scott from Fredericton,Canada
“The Eastland Park in it's present state is not glorious, not a legend. It's a tired old hotel with better competition in Portland.” Nov 19, 2008 by
John from Middlebury,CT
“Nice exterior and lobby, worn down though, hallways smell and ceilings are low. Room layout is inconsisent. Climate control very difficult. Decor worn and outdated.” Oct 13, 2008 by
patricia
“Experience exceeded expectations on every level.” Oct 9, 2008 by
Sheila
“The carpet outside of the bathroom door area was wet and the comforter had several unknown stains on it. I was not impressed with this room. Went to the lounge on the top floor of the hotel for drinks and to enjoy the view of the city. The drinks were good and the view was exceptional. Had no problem with any of the staff. The hotel is a much older hotel and it'd be great to see it refurbished and brought back to its original beauty.

“Old elegance with mordern amenities. Pleasant location if you enjoy shopping or dinning.” Sep 21, 2008 by
Elizabeth
“This hotel is in an excellent location within Downtown Portland. Old Port is in walking distance and the Arts District is right around the corner. The rooms are nice as well as the staff. I would definitely stay here again.” Sep 20, 2008 by
carol
“Accommodations were in the grand old style of downtown hotels. The room was spacious and the extras included lush robes, rowels, and bedding.” Sep 14, 2008 by
Ronald from Bridgeton, NJ
“Very nice, well run old hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was clean. You can't go in and out of the parking garage without incurring a fee each time. On site restaurant was good. The elevators were not working.” Sep 12, 2008 by
Carol from Annapolis, MD
“Worst place I have ever stayed.” Sep 6, 2008 by
Eileen from Pleasantvile, NY
“Portland is a great city, but this is a very tired hotel, needs a facelift badly. Neighborhood is a bit seedy although a friendly staff. If this is a 3 1/2 star hotel, then Portland is in big trouble.” Sep 6, 2008 by
Taner from St Thomas, VQ
“Old hotel; needs a lot a renovation. Price is good.” Sep 5, 2008 by
Tim from South Dennis, MA
“Great historic hotel in very good shape. Nice helpful staff. Great downtown location. Super top of Portland bar with excellent panoramic views. Could supply better soap/shampoo. Garage is a bit far. Overall, 2 thumbs up.” Sep 4, 2008 by
Tracey from Newton, NH
“This hotel has really nice public spaces and really horrible private ones. The location was far away from the tourist friendly waterfront. The long walk did afford me a chance to explain homelessness to my youngest child, and to hopefully foster a desire to help the less fortunate.” Sep 2, 2008 by
Dee from Glenburn, ME
“This one was an unusually small room with poor ventilation and a small bathroom.” Aug 28, 2008 by
Mary from Hyannis, MA
“The hotel is older building, but rooms are spacious. Bathrooms were very small. Location is in city center. Hard to travel around.” Aug 25, 2008 by
Susie from Bucksport, ME
“This hotel is great in location and it is always the same. It is an old hotel and some might not like that, however we do.” Aug 24, 2008 by
Larry from Farmington Hills, MI
“Room was not clean, hotel need to be updated. Poor condition for a star rating of 3.” Aug 24, 2008 by
Orbbe from Le Center, MN
“Hall ways very old looking. Needs to be brighten up. Gave us handicap rooms because they were full. Which I do not think was the case.” Aug 23, 2008 by
Catherine from Concord, NH
“For a 3 star hotel - this was a huge disappointment. The lobby was deceiving - very nice, like an older grand hotel. Elevator was shaky and loud - first clue that maintenance of this hotel may not be up to speed. Room smelled, was dingy, ugly and cramped. I woke up too early to the sound of construction opposite of where my room was. I have no doubt that with a facility this big that rooms were available on the other side of the hotel that would have been more quiet.” Aug 22, 2008 by
Jim from Prescott, WI
“Hotel is run down - 10 tiles missing from shower, not friendly at all, very stiff, had to wait for 20 min for someone to take my valet ticket in the morning, the guy was standing 4 feet from me I paid 20.00 for this. I would never stay at this dump again -- room look like it was from 1950 never updated.” Jul 21, 2008 by
Jo A. from Ridgway, PA
“Central to a lot of shopping and dining and the harbor - rooftop lounge - wonderful - the view and light fare available!” Jul 21, 2008 by
Sarah from South Thomaston, ME
“This hotel is down at the heels in sore need of renovation. Hallways were smelly, dank and depressing. Water pressure in shower was so high, it felt like pins and needles. Had to pay extra to park in public garage next door. There was a well publicized murder that occurred in this hotel.” Jul 19, 2008 by
Tanya from Colebrook, NH
“Overall a great stay. Many restaurant, bar and shopping choices close to hotel.” Jul 18, 2008 by
Daniel from Provo, UT
“Very comfortable and a pretty nice hotel for 3 stars. The queen mattress didn't seem to be a queen, but it was comfortable and we slept just fine.” Jul 18, 2008 by
Rob from Austin, MN
“This hotel is an older facility in Portland and required extensive updating. The hallways are ill lit and carpeting threadbare. The public areas need a good cleaning. Rooms although spacious lack modern AC units. The current either operate full blast with no fan control or are off. Thermostat switching only invited a noisy wakeup as the unit cycled between full and off mode. The hotel did not meet the 3-star rating given it. Avoid this location until & unless thorough modernization is undertaken.” Jul 11, 2008 by
Penny from Lawrenceville, GA
“Don't stay there.” Jul 11, 2008 by
Melissa from Ellsworth, ME
“The carpeting in the public spaces is dingy and should be updated.” Jul 9, 2008 by
Mkr from Dumfries, VA
“I would not recommend this hotel as a 3 star status. It is old, worn, small room. Sink did not work. Bathroom was not clean. The room was so small that two people were tripping over each other.” Jul 2, 2008 by
Nancy from Scandinavia, WI
“It was older, not the cleanest, the lights flickered, and we could hear a lot of noise 2:30 at night.” Jun 29, 2008 by
Barbara from Pacific Palisades, CA
“I would recommend that people stay away from this hotel. It is dark and depressing with rooms big enough to be a closet.” Jun 15, 2008 by
Kathryn from Columbia, SC
“The hotel is on the edge of where you'd want to be as a tourist. The Old Port Exchange, the funky shopping and entertainment district is spreading westward, and has made it as far as the Eastland Park. You will have to walk a ways to the waterfront, but you can see the water from your room. Plenty of hip coffee places and restaurants are nearby, though. I recommend Hot Suppa a couple of blocks west on Congress Street. The parking garage is a bit tricky. If you want to go in and out, you can find free parking on nearby streets, but it is one or two hour limited. I would agree not to park on the street overnight (we lived in Portland for seven years). Mainers are nice people. But with the accent and reserved facade can seem apathetic or surly. For the number of stars, I was pleased with the size and general quality of the room and its furnishings. The problem with more stars is often you have to pay a lot for things like parking and breakfast that are free in lesser places. A mini-fridge would have been nice, and the coffee maker in room only used its own packets of deplorable coffee, so you can't even hack a decent pot by buying your own. No Weather Channel was the biggest annoyance. Coastal Maine weather is extremely volatile and I had to keep logging on to the internet (because you can select your weather station--Simonton Cove in South Portland was most like the Portland peninsula). The Time and Temperature display on a nearby building was hard to read in the morning sun, and tended to read warmer than ground temps. Overall, a great value and good location.” Jun 15, 2008 by
Kat from Pittsburgh, PA
“The location of this hotel in Portland is excellent and I really enjoyed the view from the restaurant/bar on the top floor. However, the drain in my tub did not work and the bed was too soft and gave me back pain all the next day. This hotel should not be classed as a luxury or deluxe hotel, as it did not even come close to hotels in this category that I have stayed. If you are looking for an average and clean hotel, I do recommend it, but, save for the restaurant; you could get the same level of quality and service at a Days Inn.” Jun 7, 2008 by
Jennifer from Chicago, IL
“Within walking distance of Old Port and good value. The beds were very comfortable and the room was clean. Staff was exceptionally nice and accommodating.” Apr 28, 2008 by
Linette from Durham, NH
“This hotel is in a great location in Portland, me. The room was very small, and had no closet. The towel rack on the wall was falling off, and the tub looked very old.” Apr 26, 2008 by
Thom from Attleboro, MA
“For the oldest hotel in Portland this is a well maintained, clean hotel with a friendly helpful staff.” Apr 25, 2008 by
Adam from Needham, MA
“I would not stay there again. The gym is ridiculous, four machines, two of which are broken. The room was dated and not very clean. The furniture looks like it was previously discarded. I didn't hate it, but it certainly wasn't three star, compared to a Hyatt of Marriot, or even Holiday Inn.” Apr 24, 2008 by
Pamela from Springfield, VA
“While my corner room with a view of the harbor was outstanding, it was oddly configure, getting a stroller into the room was a challenge and the bathroom was small and cramped. The hotel overall was clean and pleasant and the staff were outstanding. Beware if you are handicapped or traveling with strollers, it's a challenge getting into the lobby.” Apr 14, 2008 by
Rob from Arlington, MA
“The Eastland Park is a great, old hotel. It has taken a beating over its many years but the staff is awesome and responsive and committed to bringing the glory back to the Eastland. The restaurant at the top of the hotel has cool views. Very good value for business (and family travel).” Apr 3, 2008 by
David K. from Concord, NC
“The hallways smelled of urine, door knobs in the room broke as soon as we touched them. Could not get hot water out of the shower head, but could burn my feet as if I was trying to take a bath. The fact that we were expecting to pay one rate for the hotel and then find out we had to pay a extra 11-20$ parking per night sealed the deal that we would not stay there again.”
