• Not walking distance to town.

“I liked this hotel a lot. We were able to take the shuttle to town and as quick as a snap they pick you up. if not a cab ride back to hotel is only 10 bucks. Great hotel.”

• The cleanliness of the room was questionable. There were used Kleenex on the floor by the headboard, which was a turn off.

“The hotel is convenient to both downtown and the airport. Quit room, comfortable beds and friendly service. The bathroom could use it's caulking refreshed.”

• The set up of the room was quite nice. Comfortable bed.
• Bathroom was too small, no vent fan in bathroom, shower drain left out in the tub.

• Carpeting worn.

“This hotel was OK but not for a three star rating. No table in the room made eating for two awkward. The room service order was not complete. No fan in the fitness area made for quite uncomfortable and very warm conditions while working out. Carpeting in elevator and hallways was old, worn, and dirty.”

• The single elevator was very slow; we had to wait several minutes each time.

“We had to stand on the chair to control the AC unit. No maid service. The location was good, however.”

• Worn, smelly, unattractive rooms, dirty hallways.

“It seemed safe enough, but there was food ground into the carpet of the hallway leading to our room, room furnishings were old and outdated, the room had an odd smell to it, and the lobby was a little creepy.”

• It was in a good location. They also had good coffee.
• The rooms were not very sound proof and we had to call to have a party broken up about 1AM.

• The dirty, run down condition of the hotel.

“I asked for a three star hotel in downtown Portland. What we arrived at was a ill kept one star hotel near the airport. When we arrived, the lobby was dingy, the carpet was warped. The elevator was slow, scratched and dirty. The carpet in the elevator was thread bare. Our room smelled of sour towels and the dirty windows overlooking the parking lot wouldn't open. When we requested a room change the desk attendant told us that they were completely booked and could not move us. They offered to ionize the room and spray the carpets to remedy the situation but we would have to leave for 45 minutes. When we returned, the room smelled of sour towels and peaches.”

“It's hard to believe this but the hotel did not have any non-feather pillows. When I called the front desk, the manager told me to 'Bunch up some blankets to use as a pillow. I had friends staying at a nearby hotel (Hilton Garden) which was only 2 1/2 stars versus my hotel (3 stars). The Hilton was head and shoulders above my hotel in all aspects. I cannot recommend the Clarion. It should be 1 star at most.”

• Hot tub out of order very disappointing.

“We enjoyed out stay at the hotel, and it met our expectations for the level of service we were looking for. The location was convenient, the staff friendly, room was clean and neat. Our stay was very good, with the one exception of the hot tub being out of order! Scale of 1-10.9. I will go there again for certain.”

“There is the worst of the worst. I have stayed in old hotels before, but this one was old, dirty, and neglected. The list of things wrong with this hotel is long. I stayed two nights and changed rooms only to find that this hotel is consistently bad. This is a list of the things that I found: filthy carpets in the hallways, holes in the hallway walls, a cigarette burn in the bed's duvet/comforter, dirty moldy showers, rusty sprinklers, dead bugs inside the bathroom overhead light, peeling wallpaper, peeling ceiling paint, dirty dishes left in the hallway for days, dirty floors around the vending machines, dirt coffee makers, dirty hair driers, holes in the window blinds, old shabby furniture in the rooms in need of updating, and lastly an all around dirty hotel. Do not stay here at any price, it is just not worth it.”

• Spacious rooms, good soaps and shampoos, free internet & friendly staff.
• Location (need a car to go down to old port).

“Friendly staff, rooms were clean, spacious, and well maintained. The free internet was fast. The restaurant served good food, staff was polite and courteous. The only negatives were the corridors were not comparatively well maintained (carpets needed vacuuming, wall paper was peeling at the edges) and the location (need a car to go down to the airport). One could however take the bus ($1.50) from the nearby bus stop to go to the Old Port area. Overall good value for the money.”

• Room service only answered phone one night out of three! Front desk did not help.

“Quiet comfortable rooms. Terrible internet connection. Food from room service was inexpensive and delicious however, they only answered their phone one of the three nights we tried to order. After ringing them for 30 minutes one night we called the front desk for help. The first person simply put us through to the restaurant without listening to the problem. When I called the front desk back the second person was not able to help. Otherwise a fairly pleasant stay.”

• Overly dirty, floors looked like they had not been vacuumed, dust in places.

“This was like shopping for a Toyota and ending up with a Kia instead. Not happy. This is a two star at best, and I would not stay there again.”

• It was located close to the airport and the harbor area.
• It was not a 3 star hotel. There was mold in the shower and the bathroom was tiny.

“For the price I would stay at an Extended Stay hotel. This Clarion was not worth the price at all. The bathroom was tiny and falling apart. The fake marble was literally falling off the bathroom sink area. The room was very small and there was not fridge in the room. There was a tapping noise outside of the window that kept us awake most of the night. We could not figure out what it was. I would not stay at the Clarion in Portland, ME, again.”

• It was a convenient location and the room was quiet.
• It was dirty, run-down and there was no breakfast (unlike other Clarions).

“This hotel does not deserve a 3-star rating due to its dingy, dilapidated physical condition. In addition to the hotel being poorly kept up, in our room, the bathroom door would not close and the toilet kept running when flushed. We have had better accommodations at youth hostels and lower-end hotels. On this occasion, we had decided to splurge for two nights in Portland and unfortunately we were then locked into both nights in undesirable surroundings.”

• Very quiet. Bed extremely comfortable. Nice pillows and lots of them. Great view from sixth floor.
• Food debris or something on floor in several places. Picture frame spieling. Mirror peeling. Small bathroom. Elevator slow, old and small.

“Overall a good hotel. Definitely needs a makeover. Looks very dated. But the important things were there great bed, quiet, nice pool/hot tub.”

• The beds were very comfortable, and the location is right near 295, close to the train station, and within minutes to the Old Port.
• The bathroom is outdated.

“This hotel is a good choice for both traveler's and romantic trips. Our stay was only one night, but we due to being right off of 295 we were able to easily travel to the Mall, movies, and to the Old Port. I was very happy with our stay.”

• I really liked the complimentary shuttle service going out for the night and the lady was wicked nice!
• I tried to call the hotel back when I needed a ride back and no one ever answered my calls. I had to get a different ride back.

“Other than not being able to get in touch with the front desk when I tried to call to get a ride back with the shuttle service, I was very happy with everything else. I was coming back alone from the Old Port at 10 PM and not being able to get a hold of the hotel was very frustrating and scary. I would not have taken the shuttle over if I had known I wouldn't have been able to reach the hotel when I needed to come back. I would have taken my own car so I wouldn't have been stuck alone, late at night, in an unfamiliar area.”

“This hotel is located in a very poor business District of Portland, me. Although pleasant from the exterior, the interior was dirty and not well kept. My room was 1st floor, and bordered the hall as well as the pool. Our room had 2 full sized beds, and that was just about it. There was hardly room for our bags, and due to the size of the beds, and the fact that my boyfriend is 6'6" tall, we could not share a bed.”

• Nice lounge and restaurant. The shuttle service was a very nice feature which we used.
• Even though we had a smoking room and are smokers the room smelled disgusting. It could have had some air fresheners or something.

“I have stayed there before and probably will again. The location is very convenient and the shuttle service to downtown attractions is very helpful. The lounge is very nice as well. I was disappointed with the cleanliness of the room. The curtains were stained and old and the room smelled. It was a smoking room, but no effort had been made to help the smell. Closed up tight with no air fresheners.”

“This is not a 3 1/2 star hotel. The hotel dates back to the 70's, the rooms are outdated, and the baths missing tiles, etc. The public hallways had holes in the walls. Not a good doubletree. I'd give it a 1 1/2 or 2 star rating at best.”

• I can't think of a thing.
• Torn wallpaper, one door off closet, hair dryer, elevator and ice machine not working.

“This property is not a three star by any stretch. The last doubletree we visited was fabulous. They have a card in the room inviting you to call a "care 62" number with any problem. We tried to call about the hair dryer at least and the "care number" itself did not work! We were committed to three days here and were very disappointed!”

• Clean, comfortable accommodations. Hotel was quiet although there appears to have many guests.
• Fitness center not unlocked at specified time. Had to get front desk to open it in the am, leaving me shorter on time than I liked.

“Overall a very nice stay. The room was clean, bed very comfortable. Why is it that hotel showers never drain well though? Would return to this hotel if needing to travel to the same area. Not near anything within walking distance, so if I didn't have a vehicle, Id try a different location.”

“This is the first hotel Ive stayed in with a feather bed on the mattress. What a difference it makes. The bed was the most comfortable hotel bed Ive experienced! It was a most pleasant stay in all ways.”
