• Very family friendly
• Over air-conditioned lobby

“If you're traveling with kids this hotel is ideal. Pool opens at 7:00 am. Lots of towels. Kid oriented restaurant, Friendly's, is attached. It's quiet, clean, easy to find and only 5 miles from downtown Portland. Our four year-old grandson would give this hotel 5 stars.”

• Everything about it was fantastic.

“We are parents of a travel soccer athlete and travel all over the state sometimes staying over in hotels for tournaments or late games. We were very happy with this hotel. It was much more than expected and we would certainly recommend it to others.”

• I was pleased that it had a pool.
• The staff were very rude about the situation & the maid did not give me any privacy.

“The place was relatively clean but they did not keep the hot tub clean or the floor area clean near the pool. Patrons could use the computer but it could not be used for business purpose because you could not save info on a UB drive. I was taking a summer class and it would have been useful to be able to type something and save it even if it was only for a 30 minute time period. As far as privacy, I thought I didn't have any. One day when i returned to my room the maid was there and stayed there cleaning while I was in the room. I just didn't like that at all.”

• Amenities, location and service all exceeded my expectations.
• The only thing waas uncomfortable pillows.

“The staff at this hotel was nothing less than accommodating, I would stay there again in a heartbeat. the desk did a courtesy call to make sure we were comfortable! I have stayed in numerous hotels over my adult life and no other hotel has ever done that, was definitely a nice gesture that I wont forget.”

• Comfortable, convenient, rooms well appointed.
• The attached restaurant - shabby.

“It had been many years since I stayed at a Howard Johnson, and was positively surprised at the standard of accommodation. It had everything that I needed for an overnight stay, including close by low price gas stations which I needed to fill up my rental car before turning it in - just 2 miles from the airport.”

• I liked everything about it. Friendly attached and the pool was big bonus.
• I have nothing negative to say.

“We stayed in various hotels on our trip and this Howard Johnson's rated high in our opinion. Beds were great quality - nice pillows, nice mattresses, good mattress pads, nice bedding, everything was clean, lots of room in the room to get around and lay our bags. We were very pleased with everything and it was an added bonus to have friendly attached. The pool was fantastic also. Easy access to wherever we wanted to go. Great place for families.”

“Conveniently located right off of Route 95. Short drive (5 - 10 minutes.) to downtown area but lots of dining and entertainment within the immediate area as well. Hotel was very clean. Large comfortable rooms. Very helpful staff and nice pool and workout areas to boot.”

• I liked that it wasn't right next to the airport.
• The beds in the room were too small, somewhat shabby.

“The hotel was in a quiet location but the beds were too small to accommodate myself and my spouse in one bed. I think they were double beds, not even queen size, which I thought was standard. Friendly's was a good place for breakfast and has an entrance from the hotel.”

• The staff was so attentive to our needs. The girls at the front desk were excellent!
• The sliding patio doors lock automatically when closed. We got locked out.

“We were traveling with my elderly in-laws. My mother-in-law has Alzheimers. Upon arriving the ladies at the front desk made us feel very welcome and went out of their way to arrange a wheelchair and easy access to a room on the first floor. From beginning to end the front of the house ladies went above and beyond their duties. I really would love to thank them again.”

• Easy, relaxed, good and friendly staff.
• No nightstand on one side and bed nearly against the wall/no table in room.

“Good serviceable hotel. Busy traffic area. Good restaurant on premises. Room was adequate but lacked a nightstand on one side of the bed. With bed nearly against the wall. Quite unpleasant for the person on that side. Generally clean and friendly. Would recommend.”

“Nice new hotel. Clean, nice exercise room and pool. Don't eat at Verrilos, which is attached to the hotel, it's a dump. The Friendly next door isn't the best either. For breakfast turn left as you leave the parking lot and go to the Denny's at the end of Riverside Road on Brighton avenue. Brighton avenue is a good way to get into town.”

“Broken bed, dirty room, ants, children playing basket ball in halls all night, pool so full we could not enjoy it, treated rudely at front desk and in the restaurant. We will stay at other Howard Johnson's, but not this one ever again.”

• The rooms were larger than expected.
• Across from adult entertainment venue.

“The hotel is conveniently located off exit 8 on the Maine Turnpike (now exit 48) and has a very helpful staff. The rooms were roomy for this star level. The area is convenient to many stores, although it is not an attractive area. There is an adult entertainment complex across the street, although we did not notice much activity there. The value was excellent, and since we previously lived in the area, a touristy location was not as important as space and value.”

“Courtesy and quality were evident from the beginning with the friendly welcome at check-in. The cleanliness of the entire site and extras in the room (free water, snacks, premier room additions) made for a memorable stay. Truly it was the most delightful stop on our trip.”

• Good base when you plan on making daytrips, wifi internet, workout room and indoor swimming pool.
• Front side room had some traffic noise.

• Loud toilet and air conditioner.

“This hotel was easy to find, right off the interstate, with two attached restaurants, and a fitness room with basic equipment. It was near gas stations, and relatively close to other stores. We found it clean and quiet, and it suited our purposes fine as a base for short day trips in Southern Maine.”

“The hotel is ok. Some staff really helpful and friendly some other not. I went to my room but I had to come back to leave something for somebody at the reception and the same person was doing the registration of somebody else and gave them 10% discount coupons for the restaurant for people staying at the hotel. That action confirmed the feeling the I got when I was doing my registration. The van driver too was rude. The rest of the staff was really helpful and friendly.”

• The had balconies but no chairs to enjoy them.

“For anyone wanting to visit Portland, it is a great location. It's a short distance to the Sea Dogs baseball park, the Maine Mall and to downtown Portland. There are also plenty restaurants and shopping locations.”

• Attractive, very comfortable beds, clean, well-appointed and stocked; everything worked (seemed new).
• In-room coffee was nasty.

“This Howard Johnson was very attractively appointed and landscaped. Rooms were fairly spacious, very clean and well-stocked with appliances and travel accessories. The beds and pillows were very comfortable. The in-room coffee left much to be desired, but otherwise we were very pleased with our stay. The staff was very courteous, friendly and helpful. ”

• No children allowed to swim after 9pm. Needed to use the pool for therapeutic reasons.

• The hotel is much better than most HoJo's. The lobby is very comfortable and the rooms are large.
• The hair left in the bathroom on the tub. Yuk.

“Our overall experience was great especially for our three year old. There is a nice pool and Jacuzzi, the lobby is large with a fireplace, friendly is connected and rooms are much larger than most hotel rooms.”
