• Elevators being renovated - 3 flights of stairs.

“Major renovation in progress - appeared to be workers everywhere, but renovation had begun a year ago when we stayed there, don't know what caused delay. Elevators not in service due to renovation, 3 flights to our floor.”

• Renovations in progress. The rooms are bigger, more comfortable.
• In the middle of construction zone, but they did a good job of keeping guests on floors separated from noise.

“Things were surprisingly good. Called before arrival and asked clerk if he would be kind enough to reserve me the room he would have his mother stay in if she came to the hotel. He obviously loves his mother. Nice quiet and comfortable room, recently renovated and very clean.”

• Desk people were helpful. Room was clean.
• Kids in business center using internet (about 10 at once).

“This hotel is conveniently off the highway. The front desk people were extremely responsive and friendly. Although the hotel was undergoing construction, other than a trash bin way off to the side of the front door, there was no other evidence/noise. The room was clean, very basic, but certainly met my needs. The continental breakfast was fine, the waffle maker being the biggest hit.”

• Terrific "continental" breakfast which offered the usual, plus waffles, hard boiled eggs and fresh fruit.
• Could hear people in next room.

“The hotel is convenient to route 1 and not to far from restaurants and shopping. The staff was friendly and efficient. The room was dirty and worn. One of the lamps was missing a light bulb. There was some mysterious substance/stain on the night stand. The bathroom was dirty, with hair from previous occupants on the sink, shower and toilet. The "hot" water in the shower is best described as "warm".”

• Parking is a little bit away from front door. Up hill.

• Room I stayed in was fresh with what seemed like new bed spreads and drapes.
• I didn't like the bed sheets. Worn and didn't seem crisp like an average thread count sheet would be.

“I was only in the hotel briefly. Late arrival, staff was friendly. Nice fresh pitcher of ice water and coffee greeted us in the lobby (rarely see ice water on coffee buffet. Very positive attribute!) Nice room and very wonderful continental breakfast. Waffle making is awesome! Not something you see added to many continental breakfasts. Way to go!”

“A pretty lousy experience. The room was poorly maintained and dirty. There were (honest to gosh) several pretty huge spiders roaming around. The next room did not have and visible spiders, but it were dirty and run down. The "free" internet connection was crap, and very rarely worked.”

• Lack of selection in the continental breakfast.

“I think this hotel has gotten a bad rap. It wasn't a "w" hotel or the Waldorf Astoria but it wasn't terrible by any means. It was nice and clean, close to Salem, and quiet. The room was nice. Basic but nice. But it's the Comfort Inn; you shouldn't be expecting more then that. Free internet was a major plus of the place. The staff was friendly, but it's not like we engaged them in any lengthy conversations. For a comfort inn, it was nice, decent and pleasant. Certainly not a place to avoid.”

• They were very friendly.
• We always ask for non-smoking but were told there was none available.

“The hotel was friendly in the fact we ask for non-smoking and said there was none available. But they did give me keys to two rooms to check out and see which one didn't smell of smoke. My mother is on oxygen and can't be near smoke. The room we took you couldn't tell it was a smoking room. They helped us in giving us good directions to our next stop.”

• The location was conveniently located near a major highway. It had a nice continental breakfast.
• The water in the tub did not drain very fast.

“The hotel was clean and conveniently located at an exit to Route 1. The continental breakfast was good and the staff was attentive to the food supply. The outdoor pool appeared to be a little dirty while the small indoor pool appeared fine.”

“We were given a smoking room, we did not ask for one. The manager was telling a potential customer on the phone he had 4 rooms left. When I inquired about changing to a non smoking room. He said they had no more room available. We had stains on the carpet. Bugs running across the floor and the room reeked of smoke and mold.”

• Overrated: not a 2.5 star establishment, which means I overpaid.

“Basic accommodations. Indoor (theoretically heated, but air conditioned) and outdoor pools were small; no whirlpool. Rooms were of adequate size, but tired. Desk staffs were eventually helpful. Complementary breakfast had waffle-irons and fresh fruit. A decent economy motel, but not 2.5 stars.”

• The pools were great. Also, the waffles at breakfast were fun!
• While checking in, the person wouldn't get off the phone on an obviously personal call. Very rude.

“We enjoyed this hotel. With the exception of check-in, all staff members were extremely helpful and courteous. The complimentary breakfast was a nice bonus - the kids enjoyed the waffles. The location was convenient for all local sites. We would definitely choose this hotel again.”

• Extremely hard to find in the city of Danvers, very out of the way!

“When I called to request 2 double beds and non-smoking a week before our arrival I was told they could not guarantee that I would get what I'd asked for, we did get it. The tissue holder in the bathroom stayed empty the last day of our visit usually men don't notice this, guess who noticed, the husband! Aside from that I guess I was expecting more from a sunburst hotel the furniture.”

• Ladies behind the desk were courteous and pleasant.
• Complementary breakfast was open only until 10 am. Sunday mornings should keep it open until at least 11 am.

“Overall rating from me is 4-5. The upholstery for the chairs for several rooms are worn out / turned and very depressive looking. No luggage rack or closet in the room.”

• The room hadn't been cleaned, TV was out and internet. They made me run around to fix the situation.

“This was a very bad experience the front desk person was always on the phone. She would leave you standing there and wait for her to finish her conversation. The room had dirty cigarettes in the ash tray, used hand soap and towels, a turned down bed, no internet, and no TV. When I reported the problem the front desk made me pack up and go all the way back down 3 floors to wait for 25 min. At the front desk for her to finish her conversation to hand me a new card to lug everything back up 3 floors, just to move into the room right next door, which did have TV and internet and was cleaned, but cigarette burns in the carpet bed and furniture.”

• Room felt old particularly the bathroom. Tub floor worn out.

• Water for showers never got hot enough.

“Good location, right off of rtes.128 and 1, 5 minutes from malls and many restaurants. Room was spacious, nicely decorated, and clean. We didn't get as many channels on the TV as we would've liked, and it took a long time (10 minutes at least) to get the water hot enough for showers in the morning. Overall, a decent hotel for its class (2.5 *).”

• The lobby and certain parts of the hotel were undergoing renovation. The hotel gave us a smoking room at first.

“This hotel is a good place to crash for ten nights, grab a shower, and have a good continental breakfast. It is not very classy, but it is functional.”

• I liked its location.
• Our room was shabby and dirty, but was spacious.

“This motel is centrally located with easy access to Boston, Logan, etc. The room we stayed in, a smoking room was very shabby. Curtains were water stained and had ragged spots. Bathroom walls and floor were dirty. Carpeting was stained. It was fine to just sleep in, and the motel is probably a very good place for business travelers. We were less than positively impressed.”

“This hotel was good overall. Some updating would make it even better. The price was reasonable and convenient drive to Boston and New Hampshire. It was also near Peabody, MA so I was able to pick up some Legal's clam chowder for dinner too.”

• Staff exceptionally friendly and helpful. Indoor pool. No complaints.
• Can't think of anything I didn't like.

“We were greeted by a very friendly desk clerk. Check in was efficient. Room was spacious and clean. Complementary breakfast satisfactory (not exceptional, but good enough). Access from Route 1 was fine, once figured out. ”

• It had a wonderful, clean and warm indoor pool.
• The sliding doors on the bottom floor were not operable.

“I tried to cancel this stay based on some reviews at TripAdvisor.com suggesting the hotel was unsafe. One reviewer noted he had to go to the hospital after being bitten numerous times by spiders, refused to cancel the reservation despite the extenuating circumstances.”
