• The decor at the hotel was unique and inviting.

“The hotel was overall very clean and cozy, but the lack of a good location left much to be desired. The rooms did not have coffee makers and coffee was not available at the hotel, we had to walk a block to a shop to get a cup of coffee.”

• Very small rooms.

“This boutique - type hotel was located in the center of Boston near Government Center and Quincy Market. The hotel was a very short walk to the North End, Quincy Market, Downtown Crossing, and two T stops. The staff was extremely attentive and tried their hardest to meet any expectations. The afternoon wine tasting in the lobby was a very nice touch. The interior of the hotel was tastefully appointed and had a very trendy feel. Although this hotel had a boutique feel, the rooms were extremely small, and even rooms with two beds appeared much to small for more than two guests. Overall, the stay was very pleasant, the rooms were extremely clean, and I would stay at the Onyx again in the future.”

• They had a nice wine/beer hour.
• They charged $5.95 for 15 min of internet access. No coffee in the room.

“The hotel was located within walking distance to everything. We did have a mishap though, we accidentally left a bottle of wine on the couch when we were loading up the car with our luggage and it disappeared within that few minutes.”

“We enjoyed staying at this hotel! We loved the modern and romantic decor. The staff was very friendly and was able to help us with directions, restaurants and anything we needed. The rooms were somewhat small however, very nicely decorated and comfortable. The bed linens were wonderful! The hotel is located a few blocks from all the action but this didn't really matter too much. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would return during our next stay in Boston!”

• Needs a flat screen TV. The big TV is outdated, view was terrible.

“Contemporary, close to Garden/North end, Rooms are a bit small, but as expected with city room. No fridge for guest use. Our view was non existent, Gym facilities adequate (new equipment).”

• Loved the comfort of the room and great staff!
• Did not like the restaurant. Only had breakfast but was bad and not cheap.

“I travel often for business and pleasure and I must say that my recent stay at the hotel was one of the best if not the best hotel experience I have ever had. The location was convenient to everything that my husband and I wanted to see and do while in Boston. Our room was large, well appointed and the bedding was so comfortable. There were thoughtful touches in the lobby like wine in the evenings and dog biscuits for guests of the four-legged variety. And the staff, wow, they were great! They staff was polite, helpful, and remembered our names throughout our stay. I spent three straight weeks in a hotel while on business and the staff never knew who I was and did not care, so this was such a refreshing experience. I wish there was an hotel property everywhere I planned to visit.”

“Fabulous hotel. We were treated extremely well here. The manager at the hotel was accessible and very friendly. They had a wonderful wine hour in the evening. It was very quiet and had a good location. Would definitely stay there again.”

• Took them 25 minutes to get the car from their parking lot.

“I was very happy with the hotel. The rooms are very modern with bold colors, new marble bathrooms and a 5 minute walk to Fanueil Hall. There are 2 or 3 great pubs within 100 feet of the hotel and if going to the Celtics game. You can leave your room when they start playing the national anthem.”

• No HBO or other movie channel, the bathroom was only adequate, ice machines every other floor.

“The hotel was clean, and the staff were pleasant. However, this was not a 4 star experience. There were no extras, the bathroom was only fair and there was no HBO or other premium channels. There was a nice wine social each night - but the space in the lobby was small and cramped. I had just come from the Liberty Hotel and there was no comparison. The Onyx - while nice - was 3 star.”

“I pulled up at 5:45 and had a 6:30 business dinner. The valet took my car immediately. I was checked in within one minute. Offered a glass of wine or beer from the complimentary social hour. Brought my wine to my room, changed and made my dinner with time to space. Very de-stressing.”

“We liked staying at Onyx. Everything was close by. However, there are a couple sketchy streets around the hotel. The room was nice and comfortable. We wish we had a coffee maker in the room. We had a good time. It's a good place to stay!”

“I highly recommend this hotel to anyone who is interested in visiting Boston. It is convenient to the subway stations, within walking distance to Quincy Market, Fleet Center, many fine restaurants, etc. It is, indeed, as advertized - a small, luxury hotel - we LOVED the room - the decor was magnificent, wee ooohhhed and aaaahed at everything - right down to the Aveda bath products that were left for our use.”

• Received the paper every morning and they provided coffee in the mornings in the lobby.
• Not enough water pressure in shower and Scott's toilet paper in a 4-star hotel?? Way cheap.

“The Onyx is a beautifully appointed hotel with a remarkably friendly and helpful staff that made our stay extremely pleasant. Really comfortable beds are part of what makes a stay at the Onyx a wonderful and restful experience. Just a short walk away from Boston's North End and Fanueil Hall and a block away from the subway station.”

• despite dog only floor, we recieved flea bites on a non dog floor

“The location was better than expected: the T stop is close by, North end is a great attraction. The walk to the North end is a bit risky in the dark though. Again, there seems to be a flea problem that the staff, although very nice, seem disinclined to believe that fleas would decide to travel off the "dog" floor. Complimentary mobile service is great and a must for modern hotels.”

• The room was a little noisy as it faced the street and the air conditioner was a loud.

“We liked the Onxy a lot. The room looked as advertised. It was very nicely decorated and the bed was comfy. The staff was helpful and friendly. The area was a little deserted on the weekend and some restaurants weren't open then. The hotel was very close to a metro stop, which made getting to and from the airport and around the city easy.”

“A 2-3 star hotel in a mixed neighborhood, but incorrectly marketed as 4 star. Resonably clean, very helpful staff. Breakfast poor and exorbitantly priced. Not a good value for the money. ”

• The hotel was GREAT, computer access & a friendly staff to help, Beautiful rooms, mini bars, room service!! Just Wonderful!!
• The prices of the food and drinks in the hotels lounge were a little high

“This was a great hotel. Only 2 blocks from the T (subway). Very clean, contemporary hotel. The staff were very helpful for visitors. They had 2 computers in the lobby for your use & they also had free wireless internet access in the rooms. Free yoga baskets & instructions on the Tv. Room service 24hrs. All rooms had mini bars. Even had baggage storing after checkout if you wanted to pick up your baggage later that day. I recommend this hotel to anyone!! We had a great stay!!”

• I was not told of a $32.00 parking fee when I investigated the hotel.

“They couldn't accommodate my request. Also, front desk staff told me a restaurant was within walking distance -- it was 6 miles away! Luckily, I found out from the restaurant before I went walking. Lastly, the neighborhood is very funky. A lot of homeless people on the streets and it's close to The Dig construction.”

• It was a uniquely decorated hotel with friendly staff.
• Smoking room lacked proper ventilation and in-room dining often required quite a bit of patience.

“Cute little hotel located near Fleet Center with slightly funky modern decor. Though I wasn't too crazy about the leopard skin pattern fabrics and robes, I must say it definitely had character.

The rooms were well kept, but the smoking room lacked proper ventilation; after one or two attempts, I opted to wait until I was outside to smoke (though I smoke, I prefer not to smell permanently of it). The entire staff was quite friendly though in-room dining request often required patience.

Some of the little things I liked about the room I stayed in are:
1. personal safe - I didn't have to carry all my valuables during the day.
2. new bathroom - especially the toilet that flushes with exterm efficiency
3. Great wireless network connection
4. the strawberry cheesecake (from the menu)”

• the view out the window wasn't great, but it wasn't the focus

• plush rooms and extremely clean its also in a great location only 2 min walk to 3 T stops
• Rooms were a little cramped

“This hotel was wonderful. The staff was great, its close to 3 MBTA stops and the hotel was clean and comfortable with many amenities. The other nice thing about the hotel its location, 5 min walk to the north end and Quincy market etc. Its a wonderful place to stay and I would stay there again in a heartbeat.”

• Lounge staff is very pleasant and accommodating. Room, although small, have everything you need and then some.
• Rooms are quite small. The street is not scenic but there is more 'character' nearby.

“The Onyx Hotel is conveniently located to attractions and transit but is not in a historically scenic neighborhood. On the plus side, it is on a street that is less traveled so it is quiet and has very little foot traffic, but one has to look beyond it for entertainment in Boston. The 'feel' is that of a small European hotel. The lounge and the rooms are small but have every amenity. The restaurant is limited but that is not a problem in a major city. I would definitely stay here again. The rooms are gorgeous but small, and provide irons, internet, bathrobes,etc. The shower is great. The small room was not a problem for two adults but frankly, could be troublesome for very large adults or a couple traveling with children.”

• The area is lonely at night and could dangerous for females walking alone or in pairs.

“I liked this hotel a lot but would like a shuttle service to Quincy Market at the very least to get closer to shops and food without
having to walk alone at night. The govt. buildings make for very empty streets and this is not good for women alone.”

• Eccentric and interesting.
• Onyx was a nice hotel, but definitely not 4star quality. Consequently I felt I didn't get a good deal.

“The hotel is located near the Fleet center. While the neigborhood is interesting, if you stay on a weekend, be prepared to encounter lots of basketball and/or hockey plans. There are many bars in the area and the street is full of drunk young people on weekends.
The room where I stayed was smaller than I expected and compact. The hotel felt nice, but did not feel of four star quality. The colors and other arrangements did give the hotel a unique, ecclectic feeling, distinguishing it from its competition.”

“The Onyx hotel is close to Fleet Center, pubs, great restaurants and within easy and will lit walking distance to Faneil Hall and Downtown Crossing. The bellman and other staff were extremely helpful and nice. The room although small are beautifully decorated and clean and have a rather large bathroom. Not only are they pet friendly, the Onyx caters to guests with pets and this makes it #1 in my book (even though I did not travel with my canine companion).”
