• The doorman was terrific and the location was excellent.
• The woman who worked at the front desk was not helpful. They had no maps of the area, no change, and they failed to put a call through.

“Laughable that it received 4 stars. I waited and waited for things, and the staff seemed putting off by having me stand around (though I was waiting for them!)”

• Lobby and common spaces are well kept and elegant.
• Arguably the most uncomfortable bed in the world, at any price point.

“I have stayed here many times. It is very well located. Dining is very good, not amazing, but consistent. Major detractor is the unbearably uncomfortable beds. Pure misery. I think the omni should take a cue from the Westin and focus on the quality and comfort of sleep surfaces! Everything else is fine, well kept in this elegant, if not getting a tad bit worn, hotel.”

• Rooms are smaller than I expected. Elevator noise and the noise of the shower from upstairs were bothering. Other than that hotel was great.

“Ok hotel, probably great for new haven. Seems older. Food seems to be hit or miss. Overall, did not meet our expectations of a 4 star hotel which we had been excited about. No bathtub + bathroom door didn't close not fun!”

• I enjoyed the fresh fruit and juice in the hotel lobby.
• The wireless internet connection was extremely bad and ultimately useless.

“This is a comfortable, well situated hotel in Downtown New Haven. The rooms are comfortable, clean, with all the amenities. My only problem with the hotel was the wireless internet connection in the room. The signal was so low that I could only have access to the internet for 1 minute or so at a time. When I called to ask about this, they said they could send something to my room to increase the signal, of course at a charge.”

• There were a lot of toiletries in the bathroom.
• The thermostat did not work.

“I was really disappointed in this hotel. The room was on the smallish side and the toilet lid would not stay up by itself, since it was up against the vanity area. The hotel overall is beautiful, but the thermostat in my room did not work properly, and the maintenance man was not able to fix it, so he recommended opening a window. The hotel was booked solid, so I couldn't even get another room.”

• HVAC problems ongoing issue.

“Great accommodations in downtown new haven. Very convenient to most venues and restaurants. Ac is not operable in winter months due to age of HVAC system so that on mild days, rooms tend to be warm.”

• We liked the proximity to Yale. We liked the old world charm.
• The elevators were slow. The entrance from the garage had a bad odor - needs improvement.

“We like the hotel staff they were friendly, efficient and the maid service was excellent. The old world charm of the lobby and rooms was nice. We enjoyed the work out room and the maids again were always cleaning even in the weight room. The fruit in the work out room was convenient. We did not dine there so we do not have a comment on the dining experience.”

• The room was beautiful and clean, and the staff was helpful.
• Parking was expensive, even by hotel standards.

“A nice hotel in an area without a widespread selection. It was conveniently located, clean, and very attractive. Staff was helpful and courteous. The price was about what you would expect...not a great value but adequate. The only downsides were that it is located in a busy (and very loud) part of the city, so on a weekend expect to hear outside partygoers very late into the night, and the parking was expensive and a bit inconvenient, mainly due to the fact that the hotel doesn't own the garage, the city/state government does, and they have it open to the public so you have to fight non-hotel guests for parking spaces. Still, in an area with limited selection, the rooms, staff, and amenities are all very nice and one could do far worse as far as quality is concerned, so with these caveats in mind I recommend it.”

• Beds - superb. Decor - Superb.
• Dining chairs so bad that they hand out pillows! Burnt toast. No safety bars in shower.

“This hotel is beautiful. Convenient to everything. Surrounded by great restaurants. Friendly and interesting staff. But if you are elderly, fat or clumsy, you are apt to get injured or killed in their bathtubs. Their shower can burn you to a crisp and there are zero safety measures for getting in and out of the tub or shower. I talked to several people but they think that any safety measures are strictly for ADA people. I said businessmen who are fifty with a pot belly and drink 2 cocktails do not see themselves as disabled! Their dining room chairs have zero padding and you can feel the webbing and slip the disc in your back. The chairs should have been returned the day they got them! I was given 2 pillows, and I used one. My partner looked like a midget in his chair and the table came up to his collar bone! The toast was really burnt! They even forgot the juice! The view was great but who cares. [We didn't remind them.]”

• shower pressure very poor, expensive parking.

“This hotel is in a great location and very close to Yale. There is also a great Diner just down the street. There are two negatives that I can think of. The parking was very expensive ($20)and the shower pressure was horrible. If you are looking for a place within walking distance to Yale, nice shop and dining then this is the place for you.”

“Lobby is lovely. Room was updated but showing signs of wear. Staff was helpful, as they were willing to relocate us to a different room on the 2nd night of our 2-night stay in hopes for a better mattress. The mattress in the second room was equally unacceptable and in that room there was the added aggravation of the noisy elevator shaft against the wall of our room (the rooms *01 on each floor will have that problem).”

“I had called the Omni to make sure I would have a smoking room with 2 double beds. When I arrived I was told that my room was non-smoking. The manager was going to give me and my girlfriend a smoking room with a king size bed, however, I was not comfortable sleeping with another woman. The manager said she would allow us to smoke in the room and would send up an ashtray but we never did get the ashtray. Since I had called the motel well beforehand to check on the accommodations this should not have happened. The fact that we never did receive the ashtray that was promised to us did put a bit of a damper on an otherwise wonderful stay.”

• The lobby was in repair and we needed to carry our bags up 1 flight of stairs, no access to elevator in the lobby.

• When I walked into the room I knew that it was clean from the first look at the layout.
• I didn't really enjoy paying 17.00 a night for parking.

“I was very happy with our stay. We ordered room service and it was there within 10 minutes. The bathroom was clean along with the rest of the room.”

• Very nice beds and linens and good bathroom but small.
• Room was very small and you could hear the vibration of the elevators.

“I don't know if the room was smaller than the rest but it was a very small room right outside the elevators. You could hear the mechanism of the elevators in your room. For one night I could tolerate it and it decreased in frequency as it got later in the night. Except for that it was a nice hotel.”

• The beds are very comfortable!
• Some of the furniture, carpet and parts of the building are showing age and should be spruced up.

“A fine place to stay in close proximity to Yale University and the New Haven Green. A fine choice, but not as luxurious as I had expected. The lobby, with low ceilings felt kind of cramped. A good overall experience.”

• It was within walking distance of a variety of restaurants, stores, and historical Yale Univ.
• The elevators were loud. We could even hear them from our room.

• Building security questionable no safeguards between garage and tower.

“We enjoyed our stay staff was friendly and attentive, rooms public and private were clean and attractive, downtown location was convenient to many restaurants and attractions. We were concerned that the security safeguards between the underground garage and the floors with guest rooms had been defeated. There was nothing to prevent non guests from entering the hotel through the garage, and nothing to prevent intruders from taking the elevator directly from the garage to the guest room floors.”

• The rooms cannot be individually climate controlled. Couldn't cool room off to sleep.

“The hotel appeared to be very nice. The Christmas decor in the lobby was beautiful. The room was very small. There was no table to eat at in the room. The down comforters were very nice. The climate control in the room would not work. It was like a sauna. I like to be on the cooler side when I sleep, and it was impossible here. I finally turned the air system off and opened the vents in the windows. It was not very comfortable.”

• Fantastic bar and food service hours. Great sheets! Easy location.
• Windows don't open - small slits at the bottom tip out, horrible.

“This hotel was beautiful and well staffed. We stayed there. Thanksgiving night to break up our traveling. Everything was still functioning, the desk staff and concierge were very friendly and assistive, and the bar had a great bartender who knew his stuff. The linens in the rooms were superb. The bathroom was beautiful and fully stocked with robes. We would stay here any time and recommend it to anyone who needs to be in New Haven.”
