“Good hotel, nothing special. Lobby area is very classy and clean with a nice atmosphere. Staff was great especially the doormen, they got us a cab before we even asked for one upon checkout. We were there the weekend of UN national assembly so very tight security and secret service around as the hotel is in close proximity to the UN. The hotel staff was very accommodating and cared for their clients during that time. The room was clean but the bathroom had a few spots that were overlooked. They came up and cleaned while we were out. No biggie but the room was descent size with good cable channels and spacious for 2 with a king.” Sep 24, 2009 by
John from E. Lansing,MI
“The hotel was fine but it is "u" shaped so when you look out the window you look directly at the people across from you. We kept the curtain closed the entire time. So there is a lack of privacy in that regard and the no view to speak of.” Sep 13, 2009 by
Jean-Claude from L.A.
“Find a better place to stay. Other hotels in the area are cleaner, more updated, with friendlier staff.” Sep 3, 2009 by
Jan from Joliet,IL
“Staff was helpful, food and drink over priced. General appearance needs some updating. Stayed here 4 or 5 years ago and the place looks the same. Carpeting could be replaced in rooms, hallway carpeting looked new.” Sep 2, 2009 by
Bernie from Washington,DC “We stayed there for two nights, and the first night we didn't get the two adjacent rooms promised bu the staff. The room we got was far located at the farthest end of the hotel and the room was poorly maintained; two lamps are broken, the remote wasn't working, and the bathtub was clogged, and worst of all--- the in-room wireless Internet service turned out to be a fraud.” Sep 1, 2009 by
Bob from Edwards,CO
“For NYC I suppose it was good. Clean & comfortable. 4 stars or greater I expect a nicer, larger bathroom, robes, and a bit quieter. Seemed like a bunch of school kids were running around.” Aug 16, 2009 by
Joerg from Essen,NY
“I got the impression that the hotel has passed it's prime. It looks a little bit aged but fine any how. Our room was rather small but clean and almost perfect for our purpose. We came to see Manhattan, not to spend our time in a hotel. And therefore it was absolutely great. The location of the hotel is perfect in my opinion.” Aug 5, 2009 by
Denise from Austin,TX
“The Barclay location is very convenient and the room was large and comfortable. The bathroom however was very small and the shower lacked water pressure but the shampoo and conditioner were very good.” Jul 22, 2009 by
Neil from New York,NY
“I could not reccomend it. Even for the 160 Priceline proce, For $40 more on Expedia I could have stayed in a beautiful Thompson hotel, In fact i did this the next night. The room was badly maintained, tiny with old fixtures. It had literaly no char,. The common space felt more like an airport waiting lounge than a foir star hotel” Jun 30, 2009 by
Kim from Farmington,UT
“The hotel was located in a great place in New York. The staff was helpful. The rooms were great and comfortable.” Jun 30, 2009 by
Garth from San Francisco,CA
“It was fine, really, just not at all luxurious once you got to the room. No bathrobes, kind of bleak in decor. The internet connection was by cables and not WiFi, and the cables were in bad shape. We were often missing something like washcloths from housekeeping.” Jun 28, 2009 by
Chan from Rockville,MD
“It is on very good location in NY and much better hotel than I expected.” Jun 24, 2009 by
Hank from Trumbull,CT
“The Barclay is a great hotel. Terrific location near Grand Central. The rooms are very nicely appointed and immaculate. Although on this stay we had a much smaller room than the 2 room suite we had last time, it was still very comfortable. The desk staff were very courteous but understaffed. The economy I guess.” Jun 21, 2009 by
Susan from Gibbstown,NJ
“This hotel met all of my expectations except for the third-party parking garage people. They put a nice sized scratch in our vehicle. The head of Security and a hotel manager assisted us during our complaint. The hotel lounge is very nice and had god food. Overall, I can't wait to stay at this hotel again. Also, my handicapped mother was treated very well.” Jun 19, 2009 by
Cara from Water Mill,NY
“Lobby was beautiful, room was small but comfortable, the bed and pillows were so soft and plush, I had a positive experience and would go back.” Jun 13, 2009 by
Pat from San Diego,NY
“This hotel was excellent. Lobby was very attractive, bar was not too noisy. Staff was pleasant and accommodating. Easy to get taxis.” Jun 11, 2009 by
Nancy from Phoenix,AZ
“Great staff. Helpful and friendly. We had a car with us (which is always fun in New York) and they had a great system for valet parking with a flexible pick up time on the last day of the stay.” Jun 11, 2009 by
Sharon from E Greenbush,NY
“Loved the place, everything was great. Except no ice bucket in room, could not get a cup of coffee to bring back to room. You had to use room service at an astronomical price or go out.” Jun 5, 2009 by
Cindy from Tucson,AZ
“This is an excellent hotel. Check-in and out was efficient and businesslike. The location was perfect. Close to all but away from the craziness of Times Square. The only negative was the restaurant/bar was too expensive to frequent! An ordinary two egg any style breakfast with meat for two would be nearly $85! But, there's a little deli shop across the street and coffee can be made in your room so, no problem.” May 18, 2009 by
Mike from Toronto,Canada
“When you first walk into the lobby of this hotel, you would think that you're in for a nice stay. Unfortunately, first impressions don't last. From the dist interested service at the front desk to the tiny rooms with motel like bathrooms, this hotel is in desperate need of an upgrade.” May 18, 2009 by
Danti from South Hadley,MA
“The location of the hotel was great. The rooms were on the small side but I guess it's inevitable in NYC.” May 11, 2009 by
Tony from Houston,TX
“Elegant hotel with a great location. Only a few blocks away from Times Square.” May 4, 2009 by
Robert from Mardela Springs,MD
“I only stayed one night, but the room was clean, had a nice view and was very affordable alternative to the higher priced NY City area hotels.” May 3, 2009 by
Reagan from Midland,TX
“We stayed here for our honeymoon and loved the hotel.” May 2, 2009 by
Marci from Baltimore,MD “A perfect hotel for a midtown visit to NYC, close to everything, great staff and gorgeous lobby. Lovely room but bathroom was a bit small.” Apr 27, 2009 by
Don from Wyomissing,PA
“Perfectly comfortable and nice neighborhood, well maintained but room still had a little pre-war feel to it.” Apr 15, 2009 by
Jo from High Wycombe,NY
“Good hotel if the price is right. Friendly staff, very comfortable beds, lots of storage space and a good range of toiletries in the bathroom. Our room overlooking Lexington let in a lot of street noise though. Room decor in need of updating.” Apr 11, 2009 by
Gina Hewson from Surrey,Canada
“Nice, centrally located hotel - small rooms but adequate. Not 4 star but definitely 3.5.” Apr 8, 2009 by
Derek from Hazel Park,MI
“Everyone was professional, bed was super comfy, room was nice. Not a good view out of the window. Restaurant was overpriced.” Apr 6, 2009 by
Liz from San Diego,CA
“Fantastic location! Nice property. Comfy. Safe. Very nice. Highly recommend.” Apr 5, 2009 by
Brent from Gibert,AZ
“What a great place to stay if you want to experience New York. The hotel has many world travelers and you hear at least two languages everytime you are in the lobby. It is very clean and staff is very friendly.” Apr 4, 2009 by
Vera from New Albany,IN
“Check in was very nice and somewhat improved our impression of the hotel.” Mar 30, 2009 by
Jeanne from Emmaus,PA
“The hotel was convenient for sightseeing in the city. It was just blocks from Broadway, the Metro and excellent restaurants. The room was a comfortable size and very clean. It was obvious the hotel catered to business clients but the staff did a great job for us as well.” Mar 29, 2009 by
Liz from Dublin,CA
“Excellant hotel! Our family had an wonderful experience. The hotel staff is friendly and prompt at answering any need. Concierge hours are expanded and they are very knowledgeable. Rooms are elegant and beds very comfortable! Would love to stay there again!” Mar 27, 2009 by
David from Miami,FL
“The hotel needs to be updated. Furnitures are old and so is the overall crowd. Bathroom was extremely small and the room was as a 3 star hotel room. But hey, it's NYC and you really don't spend that much time in the room.” Mar 23, 2009 by
Annette from Thornhill,Canada
“Concierge recommended two fabulous restaurant for our dinners. Clean and friendly. Very much a business hotel that worked well with children.” Mar 22, 2009 by
Robert from Elmira,NY
“Hotel was okay. Bathrooms very small. Rooms not swept and we were there three nights. Would not stay there again.” Mar 12, 2009 by
Pam from High Point,NC
“We loved the hotel and would look forward to staying there again.” Mar 12, 2009 by
Milledge from Adams,NY
“The hotel staff made us feel very welcome and helped us out every time we wanted to go somewhere, with directions and suggestions. The building itself is wonderfully furnished with attractive things and is well-equipped. Everything looks luxurious and well-maintained, in a regal way.” Mar 12, 2009 by
Julia from Thurmont,MD
“The hotel was nice and in a great location. We did have the drain problem. This seems to happen a lot at hotels, but this time it was so bad, I called. They claimed to have come out to fix it, but it seemed the same the next day. Still a little bothersome.” Feb 20, 2009 by
Fran from Harrisburg,PA
“Overall the hotel was very nice. I would recommend that they purchase flat screen TV's.” Feb 20, 2009 by
Robert from Harrisburg,PA
“The rooms were clean and comfortable. We left a bag in the lobby when we were leaving and didn't realize it was missing until we got back to Pa. We called the hotel Monday and Tuesday to see if it was turned in, they said it wasn't. I call again on Wednesday and the lady there said she had the bag. She took my credit card number and was sending it to us by Federal Express. My wife was very happy.” Feb 20, 2009 by
David from London,CA
“This was our first visit to NYC and the Barclay was simply stunning. Location was perfect for exploring, our executive king room on top floor was perfect and huge. The staff were nice and we had a superb time. Would definately return.” Jan 22, 2009 by
Michelle from Dublin,PA
“It's unfortunate, but the impression that the front desk clerk had on us really made my husband and I dislike our stay here. We stayed here twice before and it was fine, but this time the front desk clerk was unfriendly and just plain rude. He did not say where the elevators were, did not thank us for staying. He basically checked us in and pushed the room key at us. Other than, I need a credit card and a license, he didn't say a word. While the room and location was fine, we will not be choosing this area in NY again.” Jan 16, 2009 by
James from Monroe,NY
“Hotel is clean and neat but decor and rooms have not been updated. Rooms and bathrooms are on the small size.” Jan 14, 2009 by
Mohamed from Johnson City,NY
“When we checked in, the front desk associate was very nice, polite and down to earth. We booked a standard room and it was nice but on the small side, but not to the point where we were cramped. The location of this hotel is second to none. We walked to most destinations and the cab ride most anywhere else was no more than 10.00. The only issue we had was on our checkout day one of the hotel employees came to our room to check to see when we would check out and if we used anything from the mini bar. After telling him when we were leaving and that we didn't use anything from the mini bar, he insisted on coming into the room to check the mini bar even though my wife was still in bed. Couldn't have they waited 30 minutes? Overall we loved the hotel and we will be going back.” Jan 7, 2009 by
Joachim from Hamilton,NY
“Comfortable, relatively spacious and appealing rooms. Friendly staff. During our stay in early January, the hotel was abuzz with European families. Fun! Breakfast and dining prohibitively expensive for us. Parking convenient but pricey. It's very nice to discover mid-town NYC on foot!” Jan 7, 2009 by
Nina from Washington,DC
“Overall, it was an excellent hotel room for midtown NYC. The room was wonderful. It was spacious, clean and had a very, very comfortable bed. Where they lost some points for me was in the service. It wasn't as good as I expected for the quality of the hotel. I didn't find the concierge staff to be overly friendly. They gave a few suggestions, but didn't seem helpful because they weren't very approachable. I'm sure the suggestions they gave were perfectly fine, however, because of their cold/abrupt attitude, I didn't feel like they wanted to help us find what we were looking for.” Jan 7, 2009 by
Zoe from Kansas City,MO
“Overall I had a great experience here. Stayed two nights. Checked in early and was given a handicapped accessible room even though I didn't need one - but in NYC that's good because it means you know it will be big enough for a wheelchair! Lighting in bathroom was a bit dim, but no real complaints. Nice touches - scale in bathroom, in-room safe, clock radio was made to fit an iPod. Wish it weren't on the east side of Midtown, but that's just me being picky.” Dec 26, 2008 by
Cynthia from Lexington
“This was an outdated filthy hotel characterized by apathy. The room was large, but had clearly never had a spring cleaning. There were dust bunnies hanging from the walls in the bathroom. The sheets on the bed had not been changed before we got the room, and we didn't realize it until half way through the second night when we discovered someone else's business card between our sheets. When checking that we had gotten all of our belongings at check out, we discovered more trash in the room which was not ours. The light switches were covered in grease from countless other people. The baseboards were actually rotting beneath the paint, and much of the paint had already pealed off. The windows gave a continuous breeze. We even checked to be sure they were closed, because the breeze would blow you hair back when you were near the windows. This also made for very loud nights, because there was nothing to dampen the street noise. The walls of the hotel were very thin, and you could hear complete conversations in the next room at a normal level of speech. If there is anything you need from housekeeping, like liners for the ice bucket, good luck. We had to call multiple different people for something so simple. If you do decide to stay here despite this review, be aware that the breakfast buffet will cost a lot for two people, and it is definitely not worth the money. If you are looking for a wonderful place to stay in New York, you absolutely cannot beat The New York Palace.”
