• The staff was great. Well trained, friendly, helpful and service attitude.
• Trouble with the lights in the room.

“I took my 15 year old daughter to see the city and enjoy NYC for a few days. The hotel was perfect for this visit. Upscale look and feel with well trained staff. Location was good for Times Square, Central Park and 5th Avenue shopping.”

• Convenient to our interests. Definitely up scale.
• Our room was fine. Our traveling companions' bath tub drain did not function after more than one request.

“The staff were okay. They could have been more enthusiastic or friendlier. They did not go out of the way to help you. They just did enough to respond your question or request. Other hotels usually provide you with more information or possible options you may not have considered especially when new (which is what should be assumed) and visiting the area (and staff is usually cheerier and excited that you are in their neck of the woods).”

• Antique furniture, a boutique feels.
• Very small bathroom in room.

“Great value for the price. Very attentive staff and twice daily housekeeping. Very clean and comfortable. The restaurant was excellent but pricey. Some of our best food during our stay was at this hotel. Bathroom was very small, but room made up for it. We were upgraded to a suite due to being Ambassador Club members. The location was perfect being within walking distance to most all of the attractions in New York. The only downfall was traffic noise (horns, sirens, etc.) outside our window, but we figured that this was probably typical for New York. The noise never hindered our sleep late at night, though. I would definitely stay at this hotel again. Overall, location, attractiveness and twice daily housekeeping were biggest assets that would keep me coming back.”

“The service is top notch, as well as the food. One of the most comfortable beds I have ever had in a hotel. Also, the hotels fitness room was being renovated at the time of my visit.”

• Location was outstanding. Room was clean and well appointed.
• Only negative- asked maid for more coffee in room, didn't get it.

“My wife and I had a great experience at the Barclay. The location can't be beat. The front desk was very friendly both checking in and out. The bellman was very helpful letting us store our bag for the day we checked out. The hotel is only 3 blocks from Grand Central so we picked up our bag on the way to the train. The room was very nice, the bathroom was very clean. All in all it is a hotel that I would love to stay in again.”

• The lobby staff was very friendly and prompt.
• There was no comforter or 4-star hotel bedding at all. In fact, I have slept on better beds at 2-star hotels.

“Awful bedding and room furnishings. Dirty. The bed is not comfortable. I have slept on better beds at 2-star hotels. Hotel does not deserve to be labeled anywhere close to a 4-star. Stay away and find a better 4-star hotel.”

• Everything not friendly, the cleaner used, smells in all the rooms.

“I probably will never ever stay in this hotel. It smells. (I switched the room and there as well it smells the same). Not friendly. Probably is a 3 star hotel, and not 4 star.”

• I did not like it.
• Poor air-conditioning. Poor customer service when I complained at 2 a.m.!

“Our room was muggy and the air was set at 65; obviously, the thermostat was not a true read. I woke up from the heat at 2 a.m., complained to the front desk and got the "ma'am" treatment from the night manager, who claimed he could not do anything but send up an engineer which I declined as the others in my room were sleeping. I asked for something to be done on my bill as I was up in the night because of the mugginess, and he said that he could not because the computer was down and he could not see what I had requested.”

• The mattress was wonderful. Overnight shoe shine is great.
• The staff was indifferent and offered no compensation to a major problem. There was no hot water!

“When the hot water went out for showers, the hotel could have chosen to offer breakfast (at their own restaurant) or at least a "we're sorry for the inconvenience", they offered neither. Not a four or five star response!”

• The room was well decorated, charming, well equipped and comfortable; location is great, lobby lovely.
• No good lunch spot, food was pricy (like all of NYC).

“The hotel is located conveniently, especially when coming in from the airport. The doormen are very hard working and helpful; the lobby is a lovely, friendly place with upscale appeal. Check-in is quick and easy and very pleasant. The elevators are quick, hallways and doorways attractive. The rooms are delightfully decorated and comfortably charming with comfortable beds and chair and ottoman plus desk with chair. There is a mini-bar, safe and nice walk-in closet. The bathroom is small but very nice. Overall it lived up to my expectations. I always stay at 4 star hotels and the Barclay definitely has earned it stars.”

• In a perfect location, clean and spacious rooms.
• Restaurant service.

“This hotel is in a great location, within walking distance from many sites. The beautiful lobby is just an indication of the rooms. The rooms are clean, comfortable and spacious - fell like luxury. The bathroom has soft towels, generous toiletries, and a sparkling clean tub. We ate at the restaurant after hours and found the service to be lacking.”

• My nonsmoking room smelled like stale smoke.

“The location is the best thing about this hotel. My non-smoking room smelled like stale cigarette smoke. Also, I don't understand why hotels of this caliber still charge a fee for internet access, which much lower-priced hotels provide for free. Such policies always make the hotel seem unnecessarily cheap. I would not stay at this hotel again.”

• No control for the cold room to get warm. Not a TV that works no fan or heat in bathroom broken hairdryer.

“It looks really nice when you enter. There was a long wait to get checked in. No assistance getting to the room. The gym was closed for repairs. Also after waking the whole floor to locate the ice machine in the location they say it is. Found I had to go to another floor then was lost in the part of the building for corporate meetings. Then rented a movie that I couldn't watch jumped all around the screen called the staff. A man came to check it said TV was not working the cable was down he couldn't fix it. Went to take a shower only 2 towels in bathroom the mirror got all steamed up no heater or fan. The hair dryer wouldn't work called for another. Oh, I forgot to say the bedroom was freezing no control of the temp. Would not stay there again. At least at a Holiday Inn it's consistent fair to good food, nice staff working TV. Fair not over priced like this place. For the price it was not worth it.”

“Checked in quickly, room on 4th floor. View faced 48th St, could see into windows of office building across the street. Room was set back from the street. Very quiet, which was much appreciated. Room was small, especially the bathroom, but perfectly adequate. Temperature was fine and thermostat worked well. The only issue we encountered was that there wasn't sufficient hot water for both of us the first morning. We were a bit surprised that this happened at this level of hotel. We complained at the desk, and they apologized profusely and offered us both complimentary breakfast. I really appreciated that, they didn't make excuses, just immediately stepped up, apologized, and told us they would contact engineering. We had no problems the second day. Breakfast was nice, either a buffet or off the menu. We did the buffet. I can't believe that the regular price is $30 for breakfast. It was a very nice buffet, but not that nice! It was a great stay, location was nice walk to 5th Ave and to Theatre district. I would definitely stay there again.”

• Nice bedding, well kept room, great service, and nice bar/food area.
• There was heavy machinery digging a hole on the corner next to the hotel until nearly midnight. Traffic noise on the 5th floor was pronounced.

“My wife and I had a very pleasant stay. This hotel was well located in mid town. It is definitely a 4 star quality hotel. It was clean, posh, and friendly.”

• Central location, spacious, clean and attractive rooms.
• Parking was expensive.

“Hotel is ideally situated in a quiet block adjacent to high end shopping and convenient to Central Park and Times Square areas. Rooms are clean and comfortable and entire hotel is oriented towards the higher end in furnishings and appearance. Room size and bed are comfortable, staff was helpful but parking is expensive.”

• The hotel still maintained its 1926 feel and the food we ordered from room service was excellent.
• Some of the desk staff were a bit glib 7 lacking in good manners and the carpet in our room needed vacuuming. V.

“We stayed at the Intercontinental Barclay for the first 2 nights of out trip. We were exhausted having spent the previous 10 days on a wonderful adventure, traveling around the interior of Puerto Rico. The Barclay was just what we needed. The hotel still maintains its 1926 charm and although the desk clerk could have been more well mannered, this is New York, and were not at the Waldorf Astoria. The room had a great view and was so lovely; we didn't even leave it for the first night. I am a very good cook, so I am hard to please but he food we ordered from room service was incredible. The icing on the cake-- we paid only a little bit more than we would have if we had staying at the YWCA.”

“I thought that the 4 star rating is not appropriate. However I was very happy with the hotel in terms of its location. The accommodations were very basic for a so called 4 star hotel. However I know that hotels in NY are much overpriced.”

• The entrance was grand and location very convenient.
• Exercise room under refurbished and no "free" alternative.

“Overall the hotel was ok. The hotel and appointments were nice however the room and bathroom was extremely small for a 4-star. Not having and "free" alternative to not having a exercise room was also annoying.”
