“This is a great hotel choice, especially regarding value for the money, in the Central Park area.” Jan 7, 2009 by
Joe from Flemington,NJ
“Love the renovations, rooms were really trendy. My wife said the bed was super-comfortable.” Jul 10, 2008 by
Andy from Ile Des Soeurs, QC CA
“While overall quality of hotel was fine, staff does not appear to be up to the hotel standard; bath tub was blocked, shower was not functioning properly, but was corrected quickly after drawing their attention to the problem. Valet parking slow, wrong car was returned to me; delay of half an hour to get my car. Forgot an object in my room and had to call, lost and found 3 times before I could get a reply. Phone calls not returned. Object not found at the end.” Jul 3, 2008 by
Lynn from Toronto, ON CA
“This property has changed ownership from Star woods to Jumeirah. It has been recently renovated in all key areas, including the lobby, all hotel rooms and restaurants. It is very impressive and attractive. It also is conveniently located at the foot of Central Park and near to all main NYC attractions.” Jun 2, 2008 by
Greg from Trumansburg, NY
“Fantastic hotel. Great location - great staff. I plan to stay there every chance I get while in YC.” Apr 29, 2008 by
Marco from San Rafael, CA
“This is a beautiful hotel with great rooms and service. It is expensive. Most guests appear to be business travelers. If you like being around guests in business suits you can't go wrong but if you want a more relaxed atmosphere you won't find it here. It's at a great location; central park is across the street. The hotel is in a safe area well located for midtown activities.” Feb 13, 2008 by
Clark from Lakeville, CT
“Beautiful hotel in a great location. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Far more luxury than I could have hoped for at that price.” Oct 17, 2007 by
Bruce from Philadelphia, PA
“For a trip to Lincoln center or Carnegie hall, non New Yorkers may have to spend the night. We've tried the economy approach, with bad results. The Es house does not pretend to be a budget hotel, but you get a very comfortable room. The prices deterred us from eating on the premises, but there are wonderful restaurants nearby even at 7 on Sunday morning there was a place for a nice breakfast for 2 at about $15. There is a plasma screen TV in the room, but if you watch it, why are you in this city?” Oct 2, 2007 by
Andrew from Toronto Amf, ON CA
“Very good, but more soundproofing from street is required.” Sep 6, 2007 by
Edilson from Brookline, MA
“I dinned at the Essex hotel's restaurant about ten years ago when it was still called les celebrities I guess. After many visits to NY City and staying in more affordable hotels, My partner and I decided to reward ourselves by staying in more luxurious hotels in NY. We stayed at the Waldorf Astoria in the end of July and last week at the Essex house. We paid about the same rate and I must tell you readers, there's no comparison between these two hotels. Although the waldorf Astoria has its formidable history in the hotel scene of NY, The Jumeirah Essex House not only has history (it's one of most beautiful examples of American Art Deco landmarks) but also offers great comfort and amenities and a service difficult to rival in the city. The rooms are generously sized in comparison with most of the hotels at the same category. Well done managers and all the staff of this magnificent hotel! Oh yes, please review your breakfast menu. It seems to me that the menu was designed to cost the same price no matter if guests want only drink an orange juice a cup of coffee and some toasts or the full buffet which by the way does not justify the $33.00PP bill. I had the buffet and my partner had his usual a la carte grape fruit, tea and toast and we paid just as much as if we had both the buffet. Human beings don't like to be cheated even if they're millionaires. Charging fair prices is a courtesy!” Aug 18, 2007 by
Richard from Westlake Village, CA
“I have been traveling to NYC for almost 35 years and stayed in all the 4 and 5 star hotels. I was pleasantly surprised how beautiful the new renovations are and would highly recommend this to all my friends and company travelers. Bravo to the owners, management and staff.” May 30, 2007 by
Martha from Atlanta, GA
“Initial impression was hotel of elegance and comfort. Staff was quite attentive and prompts with the few requests I made. I was traveling alone and felt very safe. Upon checking in, I was offered an upgrade which was unexpected and much appreciated. Incredible value and I would definitely visit this hotel again.” Mar 21, 2007 by
Owen from Morrisville, PA
“This hotel seems to rest on its location, location, location (which is hard to beat) and its staff, who are excellent. The room was tiny and cramped with an expansive view of the wall of an adjoining building. It is hard to describe how useless, frustrating and ill-conceived the gimcrack shower arrangement was. And breakfast for two, including coffee that tasted like iodine, cost about $80 (including tip). It might be good for those on an expense account, who can cough up for a reasonable room, but I will look elsewhere for my next romantic splurge in NYC.” Mar 21, 2007 by
Marti from Okemos, MI
“Nice employees who really tried to assist in whatever way they could. Very helpful. Would return.” Sep 27, 2006 by
Juan from Germantown, MD
“The hotel and staff were magnificent. The location is ideal on Central Park South - just minutes walk to 5th Ave shopping. It's pricey but you get what you pay for.” Aug 31, 2006 by
Donna from Oklahoma City, OK
“Front desk staff was not that trained. I had to look at two rooms because the girl who checked me in was not sure of what she was telling me.” Aug 15, 2006 by
Katherine from River Forest, IL
“This hotel is in a great location on Central Park South. You are close to some of the essential attractions for a NYC visitor. The room was small, but clean. The linens seemed nice, but it's odd that there's no mattress pad on the bed. The bottom sheet easily slipped out of place and we were partially sleeping on the mattress.” Jul 30, 2006 by
Lynda from Watertown, NY
“Although the room was quite large, the hotel showed signs of disrepair. There was an odor in the hallways, peeling paint on the ceilings, room service trays were not picked up promptly and there were other minor signs of general disrepair. I understand a renovation is about to occur that may address these issues. The staff were quite helpful.” Jul 27, 2006 by
Jill from Santa Monica, CA
“Disappointing.” Jul 13, 2006 by
K from Plymouth Meeting, PA
“Great location, clean rooms and common areas and a courteous staff.” Jul 1, 2006 by
Anne from Pottstown, PA
“A nice old hotel with comfortable beds. It was not satisfactory for business communications. Also, no ice machines (although there were ice buckets) or other self serve amenities. Everything was room service so expensive for tips. The "lower cost" restaurant is still very expensive ($150 for lunch for four!).” Jun 29, 2006 by
Byron from Orlando, FL
“Located on Central Park South, the Jumeirah Essex House is a perfect location from which one can easily explore all of Manhattan. My wife and I had a marvelous time and were exceedingly comfortable in our well-appointed room. We highly recommend this hotel.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Jun 8, 2006 by

“Great location. The hotel lobby is nice but, the rooms are terrible. The carpet is worn, the bathroom old and fixtures were cracked. I should have known when I could get this hotel at a discounted rate for a weekend, I was in for trouble with quality.” Jun 7, 2006 by
Lea from Gonzales, LA
“The staff was excellent, going far beyond the norm. My room was clean, however, not out of the ordinary. I expected the luxury of having my own coffee maker, without having to ask for room service. There was only one robe available. The beds were very comfortable and the lines were of high quality. I would say was pleased with the hotel, but it did not have the spark to make me want to return.” Jun 6, 2006 by
Gary from Whitewater, WI
“The hotel was a four star hotel with excellent location to Central Park and downtown. The staff was pleasant and very helpful. We would look forward to staying there again.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.May 26, 2006 by
Tom from Davidson, NC
“What a fantastic hotel. Rivals the St. Regis and definitely a cut above the Waldorf. I can't believe I saved 50% on this hotel. It was a great deal at any price.” May 25, 2006 by
Gary from Ithaca, NY
“Hotel was convenient to the subway, taxis, shopping, and Central Park. Would go back again, but not a full price.” May 25, 2006 by
Terry from St Augustine, FL
“It was nice staying at the hotel. We could get everywhere we wanted to go easily. The staff was very helpful.” May 24, 2006 by
Christine from Waltham, MA
“I would recommend this to everyone and I would love to go back.” May 24, 2006 by
Jim from Demorest, GA
“The Essex House is in a magnificent location and the deal we got was magnificent! Other websites priced New York Hotels of this caliber at over $500/night. We got our rooms for almost half that! ” May 24, 2006 by
Adam from Washington, DC
“Beautiful room, wonderful service.” May 4, 2006 by
Anne
“Superb room overlooking Central Park! Massages in the spa were a worthwhile treat for us.” May 3, 2006 by
Herme from New Castle, DE
“Great Location, Great Staff, old world charm with modern conveniences. Bathrooms a bit small but updated. Bed was wonderful, lines were shopworn and patched, (sheet on king size bed) Smoke detector was hanging down from mount is ceiling. Small details need attention.” Apr 25, 2006 by
Pamela from Highland Park, IL
“Great location. Front desk person was very nice about canceling the 2nd night since my mom wasn't well. Problem: Package included complimentary breakfast in Botanical Restaurant. The coupon did NOT state the hours breakfast was served. My parents arrived 5 minutes late and manager said, "You're late. The dining room is closed." Several tables still had diners, some being served their 1st course of orange juice!) My parents were very upset by this rudeness and rigid, we-could-care-less treatment. Walking is difficult for them, but they were forced to find somewhere else to eat outside the hotel. Therefore, we will not stay at the Essex House again.” Apr 12, 2006 by
Eleanor from Burlington, VT
“Very pleasant and helpful staff. Would stay here again.” Jun 3, 2005 by
Graylin from Silver Spring, MD
“The hotel was nice. The staff were nice. The room was reasonably clean. There were some annoyances. The bedroom linen setup is annoying, please just give me a top/bottom sheet and a blanket and be done with it. The shower was great and the towels nice but very little counter space for a bathroom kit. The seat of the toilet didn't fit so it was like you were on a carousel ride everytime you went to the bathroom. We had a lovely view of a multi-tiered parking garage. The hotel location was great if you wanted to visit Central Park but a bit of a hoof if you were going shopping or to the theatre. Really annoying that they close the 58th street entrance after 10PM. For those of us attending the theater having to walk all the way around to get to the main entrance was a pain and a security risk for us. Given the location of their security personnel, I fail to see why this had to be done. Again, the hotel staff were very sweet.” 0 of 1 people found this review helpful.Jun 2, 2005 by

“The Essex House is a very nice hotel with a very good location. The rooms are clean and the linens are very nice.” Jun 1, 2005 by

“beautiful location, comfortable bed with luxurious sheets, wonderful breakfast buffet!” May 31, 2005 by
Karen from Fairfield, CA
“The Westin Essex House is a very nice hotel. The staff was very accommodating and friendly. The rooms were comfortable and clean. It was away from the hustle & bustle of the theater district, yet close enough to walk to. We would stay there again.” May 30, 2005 by
David from Las Vegas, NV
“Facility was excellent; staff was generally helpful and courteous, but our visit was marred at the end. It was a windy day and the doorman carelessly let the (very heavy) front door slam into my companion. He saw it happen and didn't even apologize or offer help.” May 27, 2005 by
Kolin from Oakland, CA
“Overall, we had a great time at the Essex House. The location can't be beat, the rooms were pleasant, and the bed was comfortable. Only a couple of gripes... First of all, in-room dining was insanely expensive (this coming from someone who lives in San Francisco!). Secondly, our room was robe-less, and we didn't get replacements despite a request to the staff. Finally, the room wasn't totally perfect - dirty windows, broken lamp, slightly messed-up wallpaper. That said, the hotel (and our room) was pleasant enough.” May 25, 2005 by
Sarah from Peoria, IL
“The Westin was above my expectations in every way. Friendly and fast service. Beautiful room. I saved tons of money. ” May 14, 2005 by
Ralph from Tullahoma, TN
“This hotel is top quality as it's rating implies. The rooms were spacious (we were given a suite) and comfortable--very up to date features in bathrooms. The staff was friendly and the service was excellent. Most importantly, the hotel is located in a perfect location for walking and seeing the sights of New York. I would highly recommend a stay at this hotel.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Apr 30, 2005 by
Margaret from Petersburg, VA “The Central Park location was excellent! It was the nicest room, and, the largest I've stayed in. I always choose 4 stars...this exceeded my expectations! Can't wait to go back!” Apr 29, 2005 by
