  • There was a hum and vibration from outside.

“A nice and conveniently located mid-town hotel near Bryant Park. Lobby has a young and hip vibe. Rooms are sleek and masculine. Beds and pillows are great. The only complaint is that we were at the Penthouse Floor and even at the top floor, the constant hum and vibrations from outside the building made us feel like we were on a cruise ship at sea.”

“The Royaltion is essentially a very nice hotel - the upgrade to a room with soaking tub was great - very romantic. The decor is sleek & modern & the size of the romm for NYC was adequate. The downsides were 2: the room was very dark with very low watt bulbs; this problem was complicated by the fact that the window faced an ugly, dark alley - would not like that room again especially for an extended stay (beyond 2 nights)”

  • Cost, location.
  • Rooms and lobby-too dark. No free Internet.

“Basically the hotel was very good. The front desk staff and concierge (when she was there which was not ofter) were friendly. The bellboys were more friendly to young women and were not always at the front door. The rooms were clean and very modern. Our view was a brick wall and fire escape. Free wi-fi would have been nice ($10/day).”

  • Location, staff were friendly upgraded us with out asking.
  • It was dingy, smelt old and the general ambiance was seedy.

“This hotel is located right off time square - if you are not a picky traveler - go for it - the room was big - but dingy, furnishing desperately need upgrading, dark, smelt musty - I did not sleep at all at night - room looks like a cheap cruise cabin. Will not stay again. Staff were friendly - had read other reviews so was prepared for ambiance in lobby - dark and club like - not a problem - just room smelt and was yucky. Large tub would only get in it with my slippers on - shower faucet on back wall so have to get into tub to start shower - so you get wet just turning on the shower. The hotel definitely caters to an adult environment - this is obvious by all the amenities for purchase in the room. Not again.”

“Great location. Great staff. Modern, European style rooms. Great value. Only minor downsides were dark hallways, dark bathroom, and no signage out front, so you don't know it is the hotel until you ask the bell hop.”

  • Location was decent.

“This was not a 4 star hotel by any stretch of the imagination. The rooms were tiny and the first room was stinking. The second room (only one available was also smelling of cigarettes). I have also stayed at the Hudson, also managed by the Morgan Hotel group which was equally disappointing (tiny room). Not for travelers with family.”

  • I liked the bar area.
  • This hotel was dark and not comfortable for friends traveling together.

“This hotel was not a good experience for friends traveling together. The double occupancy did not mean two beds. It does not even mean a king. There were no rooms with two beds nor kings. The rooms were too contemporary which meant uncomfortable and cold. The chairs and bed were not comfortable. They were too stiff.”

  • The entry/lobby is a bit dark, foreboding to the new comer.

“I walked right past the hotel because it is a very narrow building and not well marked, no sign at all. Entering with the help of a doorman who helpfully stepped down and asked if I was looking for the hotel, I found the lobby, unlike any other I have seen anywhere in the world. Dark, but warm.
Not a place to take kids. The room was great, the bed very comfortable although I had asked for and hoped for a king, the queen was adequate. Did not use any other facilities, but there is a very active lobby bar and lounge at night. The room floors are quiet and private. I would go back again.”

  • Very hip bar, contemporary room and great service.
  • Hallways were dark.

“This is a boutique hotel with a hip bar covering most of the ground level. Rooms are small, but have nice new contemporary amenities. The hotel is well located for both Midtown and Times Square activities. I highly recommend this hotel.”

“The hotel was. The location was great. It was very intimate and cozy and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful. I would describe the hotel as trendy but also classy, which can be hard to find. I would definitely recommend this hotel to friends and family.”

  • Its location. Worth the amount you like to spend and the entrance.
  • Rooms and galleries in front of rooms have dull lights. Should be more bright.

“This type of hotels and the money one is likely to spend must include breakfast. One enjoy Buffet breakfast in a 4 star hotel on business or leisure trip. We had to go out to another hotel nearby to enjoy breakfast.”

  • Very convenient location, friendly helpful staff, comfortable and extremely functional room. I was very pleasantly surprised how good it was!
  • May not be great for families but it was great for my needs.

“I couldn't have been happier with the Royalton - it was much more than I expected or would have hoped. The accommodations were comfortable and functional, the staff was extremely helpful and it was a very convenient location for everything we wanted to do. Close to shopping, nice restaurants as well as fast-food and easy access to Starbucks! Far enough off of Times Square to miss the noise and traffic but close enough for an easy walk.”

  • The staff was extremely helpful and very accommodating.
  • The halls were too dim - seemed a little scary walking to your room alone.

“The Royalton was great! The room was much nicer than I anticipated and very spacious. The hotel staff went above and beyond to make our stay more enjoyable including allowing an early check-in, sending a fax and providing milk for our toddler at bedtime. Although the hotel is somewhat trendy, the staff was very welcoming to our toddler and made sure we had everything we needed for her. The only thing that I did not like was the lighting in the hallways - it is pretty dark. I felt a little uneasy walking down the hall alone at night but other than that it was great! The location was very convenient with multiple Subway lines close by and shops within walking distance. I was very impressed and will stay here again.”

  • There is nothing I liked about this hotel what so ever.
  • I had to pay additional charges just to accommodate 2 people.

“Their standard room only is big enough for 1 person not 2. I had to pay $50 additional charge per day just to upgrade to a superior room. The bathroom showers flood every time you use them. I will never stay ay this hotel again.”

  • The room was spacious by NY standards, clean, modern and quite comfortable.
  • The entry led to a narrow hallway flanked on either side by a busy bar scene before getting to the check-in desk.

“This little gem of a hotel is almost hidden from the street with its name subtly carved into stone above a large, oversized door. The bar was bustling and a romantic fire welcomed us as we searched for the front desk. The personnel were very helpful and accommodating. Once in our room, we found the decor to be modern but not cold. The large king size bed, topped with a multitude of pillows, was very comfortable. There was ample space with a lengthy upholstered window seat. The walk in shower, with an oversized showerhead, was wonderful! All in all, a great experience.”

  • There was no doorman on duty when we toted our bags in upon check in.

  • Sophisticated, relaxing atmosphere. Friendly staff.
  • Slow elevators.

“Overall, the accommodations were excellent. From the moment I entered the lobby there was a sense of sophistication about the Royalton. Very modern decor, a huge plus! The room was smaller than expected but very clean. My only issue was with the slowness of the elevators since I was on the 12th floor but this would not deter me from staying there.”

“Fashionably modern small hotel in an historically interesting block of 44th St near 5th Avenue and the Times Square. Quiet rooms, attentive staff, and a welcoming fireplace compensate for the dark atmosphere of public spaces.”

  • The lobby and room appearance exceeded our expectations.
  • There was no ice machine on any floor.

“Upon approaching the hotel, we were welcomed by the bellhop and escorted into the lobby. The lobby was exquisitely decorated, very modern and cozy. The hostess was very friendly, a very nice gesture. The elevators are small and we wondered how exactly it could fit 12 people, if possible. The hallways were dimly lit, but consistent with the ambience. Our room was much more than we expected. Beautiful modern decor, ample lighting with dimmers, and very plush linens. The bathroom was the highlight of our room, with the extra large shower. Overall, we were extremely happy with our choice to stay at the Royalton and look forward to staying there again upon our next visit to the city.”

  • Attentive staff, very clean (rooms, lobby).
  • The bed was not as comfortable as it looked.

“This was my first visit to this hotel. Staff was friendly and accommodating (checked in 3 hours early). Location convenient to theaters and shopping. Room and all hotel areas were well maintained. Lobby/bar area was comfortable with fireplaces. This area becomes busy at night. Room equipped with large umbrella. Comes in handy when it rains and you left your umbrella at home.”

  • The staff was fantastic!
  • The rooms were dark & the furniture was cheap.

“The Royalton canceled my reservation before I arrived in NYC & I was moved to Morgan's (a sister hotel). The staff made me feel right a home & always remembered my name. They really went above & beyond. While the hotel was very nice it was also very dark (even with all the lights on). Also, the furniture & rug in my room were worn in places & seemed like it was time for an update.”

  • Very small rooms and no place to set things in bathroom

“This hotel appeared geared to a younger clientele. Lighting in common areas was very dim. Modern decor was nice. We liked the staff and the location and we would return, in large part due to location and shower. No amenities such as restaurant or gift shop in this hotel.”

  • Location, towels, comfort of bed and bedding.
  • It was closing for renovations the day we left.

“You guys really should be aware of renovations when and if they are taking place on properties listed. We felt much ripped off due to the situation at hand upon our arrival. In the past we have stayed at the Royalton and felt it was what it was marketed as via you not this time. We were duped! There was a make shift bar in the lobby, no restaurant and half the lobby was not in use. It certainly was not a 4 or 5 star property in the state it was in.”

  • Beautiful spacious rooms and modern bathrooms and very comfortable beds.
  • The elevators were small and dismal and the lighting in the rooms and bathrooms was dim.

“The hotel rooms and bathrooms were spacious and modern. The comforters and pillows on the bed were terrific. One of the best hotels we've stayed at in N.Y. Only the lighting needs to be brighter, but the day we checked out, was the last day this hotel was open. It is closing for 4 months for extensive renovations. We will certainly return when it reopens.”
