• The staff was fantastic!
• The rooms were dark & the furniture was cheap.

“The Royalton canceled my reservation before I arrived in NYC & I was moved to Morgan's (a sister hotel). The staff made me feel right a home & always remembered my name. They really went above & beyond. While the hotel was very nice it was also very dark (even with all the lights on). Also, the furniture & rug in my room were worn in places & seemed like it was time for an update.”

• Best thing was the shower, great pressure and hot water!
• Very small rooms and no place to set things in bathroom

“This hotel appeared geared to a younger clientele. Lighting in common areas was very dim. Modern decor was nice. We liked the staff and the location and we would return, in large part due to location and shower. No amenities such as restaurant or gift shop in this hotel.”

• It was closing for renovations the day we left.

“You guys really should be aware of renovations when and if they are taking place on properties listed. We felt much ripped off due to the situation at hand upon our arrival. In the past we have stayed at the Royalton and felt it was what it was marketed as via you not this time. We were duped! There was a make shift bar in the lobby, no restaurant and half the lobby was not in use. It certainly was not a 4 or 5 star property in the state it was in.”

• Beautiful spacious rooms and modern bathrooms and very comfortable beds.
• The elevators were small and dismal and the lighting in the rooms and bathrooms was dim.

“The hotel rooms and bathrooms were spacious and modern. The comforters and pillows on the bed were terrific. One of the best hotels we've stayed at in N.Y. Only the lighting needs to be brighter, but the day we checked out, was the last day this hotel was open. It is closing for 4 months for extensive renovations. We will certainly return when it reopens.”

• The staff and service are amazing!
• The rooms are renovated from an older structure.

“The Royalton treats you like royalty from the moment you are greeted by the doorman. The check-in process, concierge, and general facilities are top notched! The building is an older structure that has been renovated. Our room was spacious with a very comfortable bed, well appointed bathroom, and a nice couch & coffee table. The location is great. Within walking distance of time square, grand central and port authority. There is a nice coffee shop across the street for a quick bite. (It's called the red flame).”

• No compensatory coffee in am.

“The place to stay for upscale modern travelers. Not your grandma's hotel. Expect a chic ambiance throughout, from the lobby to the decoration of the rooms. Even candles are thoughtfully provided for a special evening. Towels are oversize and the bathrobe is luxurious. However, no space in room to store empty luggage, no bathtub, if that's what you want, and rooms facing 43rd st (back of hotel) might be bothered by an almost continuous "beeping" coming from the hotel's trash compactor. These are small prices to pay for a great location and a beautifully designed hotel with very friendly staff.”

• The staff were incredibly helpful and delightful to deal with.
• Minor thing: no hooks for towels and no fan in bathroom - it got too hot in there after a shower.

“I would highly recommend this hotel. The staff were a delight- made us dinner reservations, recommended walking distance restaurants for lunch, and breakfast. They responded immediately when we requested extra bath robes. The location is fantastic too. Two blocks from times square - one block from 5th avenue. I also like the fact that it is a building with a lot of character. The place was hopping with people in the evening. So you can have a lot of fun right in your own hotel if you choose. However, in the room it was peaceful and silent! Great place to go!”

• Very dark, no windows, claustrophobic space, like being in a cave.

“It was good quality but a somewhat surreal atmosphere - no windows, dark, somewhat depressing atmosphere. Rooms were dark with no option to turn lights brighter. Very convenient location.”

• I thought the hotel was centrally located and the staff was very helpful with any requests.
• The common areas were dark. Not very family friendly.

“The hotel was in a great location. All staff members show a high standard of service. The door man were great providing directions and supply cabs in the rain. I would not recommend for anyone traveling with children or a group. They were not very friendly to our needs. The Royalton was excellent!”

• Fantastic location, large rooms, rooms conducive to good night rest.
• The concierge service was not as knowledgeable or helpful as expected to be. Doormen not always present.

“We were very impressed overall with the Royalton. It is on a quiet street and is quiet. The bed and bedding are very comfortable. I do wish coffee had been available in the room and the only way to get ice was to order it through room service. We would stay there again, however.”

“This hotel was beautiful, conveniently located, very clean and boutique-ish. Not your run of the mill lobby or room, very different (in a good way). Lavender in the bathrooms, interesting personal care items for sale in the rooms, lit for comfort (a bit dim, I liked it). I travel a lot for business and this was a welcome departure from the Marriott's and the Hiltons.”

• Rooms and lobby pleasantly unique - a "boutique hotel" was a good description. Great location and super friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful staff.
• Room was on the small side w/o much storage for clothes/suitcases - but that's nick.

“Great location, staff and restaurant. Lobby conversation area bar, both romantic and lively at the same time. 1st time guests will not be disappointed w/ the Royalton. We would return for sure. Guests.”

• Location - near times square. Bed was very comfortable with its comforter and many pillows.
• Absolutely no surfaces to put items on. The few scant places all had items for purchase. No racks to hang towels.

“Absolutely not a child friendly hotel! Extremely small room though nicely decorated and well located near times square. No comfortable place to sit in lobby. Candles and matches in room, bath, which I consider unsafe! No place to put cosmetics, etc. ”

• It is conveniently located to Times Square and the staff was extremely helpful and friendly.
• The lighting in the hallways of the guest rooms. It was too dim lit.

“I really enjoyed my stay at the Royalton. The room was small but comfortable and very clean. It's about a block or two from Times Square so you are just a few steps from any and everything you need. The menu items were too pricey in the hotel, but you are surrounded by several restaurants, drug store, and coffee shops.”

• Location - proximity to times square and theatre district.
• Too dark - poor lighting everywhere including rooms. Rooms had little drawer space.

“I was disappointed. Everything about this hotel is dark. The lobby, the hallways, even the rooms gave insufficient light. Unsure what "mood" or "atmosphere" they're going for, but I found it to be annoying. Rooms have insufficient drawer space and we basically lived out of our suitcases instead of unpacking (other than a very small closet for a few hanging things). The one good thing was its proximity to time square and the theater district.”

• It is a cool, funky sort of place - but friendly.
• The hardware in the bathroom was difficult to use and there was very little room to put anything down.

“The place is dark and hip, but fun. I found the bathroom to be enough of a pain that I ended up going home to take a shower rather than dealing with the overly cool shower hardware (that I had used the night before). The room itself was well appointed but I would have been frustrated with the lack of storage if I had come for more than one night.”

“The very modern decor and hip music in the lobby during the evening did not suit this middle aged doctor from Maryland particularly well. I would have preferred the Algonquin or Iroquois across the street. The location, comfort level, staff, etc.”

• They did not have a room with two double beds so they upgraded our room to accommodate our family without charge.
• You have to walk through a nightclub to reach the front desk, and they charge to upgrade to two double beds normally.

“The Royalton is in a great location. Our room was very spacious; it was given to us since they did not have the room we requested with two double beds. The beds are low and not very comfortable, and we were there with our children so the entrance through a nightclub was not ideal. The staff was very friendly and helpful.”

• Location was great, lovely room, great staff, and great balcony.
• Hard bed.

“The door-men were friendly and helpful, extremely polite staff with a quick check-in, great maid service, and large room by NYC standards, fantastic shower, and great balcony (room 1217). I would definitely stay there again. No complaints (other than mattress a little hard). I think the staff certainly makes this hotel superior.”

• Location excellent, very trendy lobby bar.
• Too dark, Front desk staff tried to cancel special room request.

“The Royalty on W. 44th street is very convenient to Broadway. The staff is young and hip aspiring actors: the doormen were actually playing ball in the street once when we returned and so had to open our own doors. They don't take themselves too seriously. When I told them I was unhappy with them canceling my room upgrade request, they were able to resolve it cheerfully, but I had to insist first. The rooms and halls are funky, but too dark to be comfortable. Bring a booklight if you like to read. It would be nice to have an outlet up on the desk for a laptop instead of having to crawl around on the floor. The bathroom is neat looking and clean, but there is no counter space to put stuff. It takes a while to figure out how to open the doors in the stalls of the restrooms on the lobby level. Amenities were adequate (iron, hair dryer, robes, shampoos, and soaps. The superior room with two doubles is in short supply but allows ample room for two friends to share, especially by New York standards. We had a fun and funky.”

• The carpet in our room was dirty and shabby looking.

Only complaint was the carpet in our room. Dirty and shabby looking. Had it not been for that would have given higher scores all around.”

• Quiet and comfortable after a long day of walking around a busy city.
• A little far from the subway access points.

“The hotel is very calming. The staff is very friendly and were always willing to help. The rooms are a bit small, but the bathroom was roomy and accommodating. My husband and I really liked this hotel except for the long walks to the subway stations.”

“The service was poor for a 4 star rating. Bags were misplaced. Service was slow and expensive. Not enough value and the staff did not go out of their way like they should have to make our stay comfortable and trouble free.”

• I loved the bathroom.
• It could use more lighting in the walkways to hotel bedrooms.

“Although, I requested a double-room and was only able to get a single bed for me and my best-friend, it was still a nice room, and yes the hotel did try to accommodate me.”

“Very romantic! We were upgraded to the penthouse and it was the perfect way for my husband and I to spend our first weekend away alone! We had dinner at 44 and had an outstanding meal, took in a show and then headed back to enjoy the room and all of its amenities!”

• Dark! And the lobby was small had no amentias.

“Well the room I stayed in was the smallest on the floor. There was no coffee available in the rooms or in the lobby. I had to order some in the morning and 1 tea and 1 coffee were. I have stayed in nick often and expect to pay but that was a little over the top. The bathroom was great. When we returned from a play we had to wait to get in because a party was going on in the lobby, I personally would not stay there again. But if you get one of the bigger room¿s maybe you would have a better experience.”

• They charged.00 for two coffees in the morning.

“The hotel room was very comfortable. It was in a great location for the theater and shopping. It seemed to have a large business crowd. I probably would not pay the room rate if I had not got the room is quite expensive and our room although comfortable was small in comparison with other hotel rooms. It was a very enjoyable stay and would recommend it to others as the staff, although small, was very friendly.”

• Extremely convenient location. The bathroom was very nice. Very trendy.
• They charged me extra dollars for a room upgrade in order to accommodate a rollaway bed (which was terribly uncomfortable).

“The Royalton is located extremely conveniently -- short walk to Bryant park, times square, shopping on 5th avenue. It is also convenient to subways, etc. The hotel is clean with sort of a minimalist appeal. The people that work there is all very nice and very helpful.”
