“The proximity to Ground Zero is humbling. Clean room, nothing fancy. Some staff was friendly and helpful, some weren't. I can't recommend the bar or restaurant. Overall, I'm satisfied with the price for a nice hotel in a decent part of Manhattan.”

“The room was beautiful and very large by NYC standards. Our room overlooked the World Trade Center site. The concierge offered white noise machines and ear plugs to compensate for the construction noises from the World Trade Center, but it was necessary as the noise was not noticeable.”

  • The internet access was down. Noise from WTC construction site was somewhat distracting. The pool was not heated.

“I love the marble bathrooms. Very nice and very clean. Concierge was able to get us Broadway show tickets at last minute. I wish we had a room with 2 beds instead of 1 queen. Wasn't too fun sharing a bed with my 12 year old son who was so excited about our visit he was bouncing around and tossing and turning. There is construction across the street at the WTC site but it was not too bad if TV is on. There was a beautiful view of sunrise reflecting on the skyscrapers outside window.”

“When we checked in, we realized that it was facing the World Trade Center construction site and very noisy till midnight and the noise resumed at 7 AM next morning. The staff was unwilling to switch the room for us. They provided us a Sound Machine to block out the noise but then the machine broke immediately. We were too tired to ask for a replacement. I wouldn't stay at this hotel in the future.”

Overall Rating: 8 User Rating Score: 8
Cleanliness:[8] • Staff:[8] • Location:[9]

  • The location was great for visiting a part of NYC not otherwise visited.
  • Lots of kids were running around.

“If you want a 46th floor view down into what used to be the World Trade Center, from a decently appointed, comfortable hotel room, this is it -- but with all of the digging and pounding and heavy machinery backing up until late each night, don't expect perfect, or even what passes for typical NYC, quiet. Very convenient to Wall Street and other points in lower Manhattan (like the short-term outdoor art project The NYC Waterfalls). A long, but interesting walk to Soho, the East/West Village and Tribeca. A short walk to the South Street Seaport and bars and restaurants near therein. It is a dump, but the food is great and the atmosphere is perfect for the fare they serve and great views from the rooms and the higher floor lobbies. It is a hotel in NYC, though and service can be hit or miss and the bathroom was the size of a postage stamp.”

Cleanliness:[10] • Staff:[9] • Location:[1]

  • Staff, rooms themselves.
  • NOISE from 24hr/day world trade center construction - unbearable!

“Our room was on the 34th floor overlooking the world trade center construction site. I asked at reception if they had any rooms at all not overlooking the construction site and they did not. The noise, even that high up, was very loud and they were at it 24 hours/day. They did do less of it between midnight to 6am, but the noise was enough that we needed earplugs and a sound machine (which they provide upon request at no charge). It's also very depressing to have that view. It's too bad - there's nothing they can do about this and I don't want this hotel to be penalized for being next to this site, but the noise, even for someone like me who is not a light sleeper, was too much. I couldn't sleep through the night. The staff is great though.”

  • The views were amazing. And being by the towers was very surreal.
  • The lobby is not very big and one man at the front desk was rude. The other people tried to make up for him, though.

“The hotel is beautiful with amazing views. Staff is mostly friendly. We only had one incident with the front desk when we first arrived. The other front desk staff saw this and immediately tried to make up for it. It is in a great location. Wonderful deli around the corner and great shopping near by. I can't begin to describe what it is like to look out your hotel window and see the site where the towers were and those men working day and night to rebuild and honor those lost. It is truly an amazing place. And the noise level from the construction is virtually nonexistent. We could not hear it at all from our hotel room. The street is messy from construction, but being in that place and witnessing the loss suffered and the work being done to try to rebuild outweighs the untidiness. Truly a great experience.”

The front-desk staff was courteous and helpful. For those who want a dramatic view of the ground zero site, they will certainly see that scene from their hotel windows. Although there's not a great deal of shopping nearby, hotel guests do have a short walk to Battery Park.”

Close to the financial district and the southern neighborhoods, with great rooms and good views, the Hilton also stands right next to what is now one of the most famous landmarks in the city - Ground Zero.
