Robert from Miami,FL
“Exceptional value; great set up and service. Despite the poor location; the fact that is adjacent to the train station (Penn Station) is a great positive.” Jul 9, 2009 by
Falconrider from Brookfield,CT
“Stark, but tastefully decorated hotel adjacent to Newark Penn Station, and a short drive to Newark Airport. Attached garage, with adequate, but expensive ($21/night) parking for hotel guests. Rooms were clean; staff was helpful and courteous, but not terribly excited to go out of their way.” Jul 7, 2009 by
from Newton,NJ “Hotel did not have the appropriate room available even though we called ahead and they said yes. They had one bed in room for 4 people and brought a single cot up to the room. One person had to sleep on floor.” May 31, 2009 by
Sally from Rogers,AR
“It's a nice hotel with good rooms. The location is excellent - right by the Penn station in NJ. Hotel pick-up is not as convenient; they run every hour (unlike the other Hilton by the airport) so you really need to make sure you get onto the right bus. There are coffee shops and restaurants downstairs. Also close to the restaurant district which is about 4 blocks away. Catching transportation for various sightseeing is also very easy. Highly recommend this hotel whether you are on business or leisure.” May 24, 2009 by
Debbie from Honolulu,HI
“Hotel was primarily catering to business travelers, shuttle to Newark airport every hour, very convenient to NYC train. No frills hotel. You feel safe, and you have a clean roof over your head, hotel itself does not have any personality, very generic and anonymous. No pool.” May 22, 2009 by
Christina from Greensboro,NC
“Would not stay here again!” Apr 10, 2009 by
Jeffrey from Rochester,NY
“Location is great, connected with the train station. Room was also fine. All I look for in a hotel room is a safe place for my things and a comfortable place to sleep. Bingo. People expect too much, if you don't like this place than you will never be happy.” Apr 5, 2009 by
J M from Calgary,Canada
“This is definitely not a 3 1/2 star hotel.” Mar 27, 2009 by
Jeff from Vero Beach,FL
“Pleasantly surprised at general hotel and conditions. Room was fine, but a major piece of furniture was missing and there was this big empty space where a couch or sofa should have been. Bed and linens were fine.” Nov 14, 2008 by
Vanck from Shoreview,MN
“Beautiful hotel, right on New Jersey's Penn Station. Easily the most convenient hotel in the Newark area that we've stayed at.” Oct 24, 2008 by
Joan
“Clean convenient hotel.” Oct 22, 2008 by
Grace
“Area was noisy and felt unsafe but hotel room was good.” Oct 17, 2008 by
Lee
“It can seem scary in the evenings with the transients hanging around but during the day, it’s just fine. Even in the evening, we walked to and from the train station never once being harassed or even spoken to by anyone on the street. The hotel itself is clean and does not smell funny. It is a typical Hilton where the staff is friendly and responsive. I would stay again if visiting NYC.

“We stayed for a visit to New York City. It was incredibly convenient and much less expensive than a hotel in the city. The hotel is attached to the Newark train station and a train from Newark to Penn Station in NYC is quick and cheap. The hotel is very nice and the front desk staff was friendly and had lots of good suggestions on touristy things to do in the City. While the hotel restaurant is expensive, the hotel is also attached to a mall with cheaper options.” Jan 3, 2008 by
Virginia from Alamo, CA
“The hotel itself is very good. However, it's in a very unsafe neighborhood, you have to pay $21.99 to park your car, airport shuttle only runs one time each hour. It's very inconvenient to EWR airport. If an airport trip is the reason for youre staying at this hotel, don't stay here unless you have a car and make sure to lock your doors when driving to and from the hotel.” Nov 21, 2007 by
Bill from Mount Airy, MD
“I had reservations 1+ month in advance and they overbooked the hotel. They shipped us 5 minutes away in a different hotel.” Feb 26, 2007 by
Carol from Eagle, ID
“This hotel was unsafe for parking for the area. The room needed updating, wallpaper in disrepair, was given a handicap room, noisy. There was no one at the desk to help me when I checked out, no one knew anything about the parking, and it is in an unsafe area. I travel every week and this was the worst.” Feb 23, 2007 by
Lumary from Baltimore, MD
“The room was small & the bathroom was ridiculously small, the parking was expensive and did not even offer a discount for hotel guests. The only thing that was great was the bed; it was so comfortable I just sank into it every night! The people were nice but gave us keys to an occupied room at first!” Jan 17, 2007 by
Ariel from Somerville, MA
“Good location, with parking (), the hotel is clean and the rooms are ok. However, I found it very hard to sleep because of the beds, and as a couple we had to sleep in separate beds because one full bed is just too small.” Jan 2, 2007 by
George from Waltham, MA
“.this hotel is only two stops out of pen station-nick on the train. The path is a little longer, but half the price, which makes this location nearly perfect. The room was immaculate. The service staff was very accommodating. My partner and I was slow leaving by noon and the maid just smiled and said that she would return after her lunch.” Sep 7, 2006 by
Yvonne from Cedar Lake, IN
“We get to the Hilton around 7 pm after a 13 hour drive and get told there are no rooms clean for us and we'd have to wait an hour. They wanted to give us 2 rooms on 2 floors when they did become available. After 45 minutes, I demanded a manager and 2 rooms instantly became available on the same floor 5 rooms apart. With 2 in each room, we were given 1 bath towel each room, no coffee or condiments and had to call more than once to ask for them. The deadbolt on one room didn't work and the toilet flushed only occasionally. It was not a good experience plus the fact that we were led to believe that parking was included but found out it was $20 a night. It was one of the most terrible if not the most terrible experiences we've had at a hotel.” Sep 7, 2006 by
Liz from Boston, MA
“This hotel is in a great location for easy access to New York City by either car or train. The room was very clean and comfortable. The bed was, by far, the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. The pillows were amazing. Our stay here was very brief, but the hotel completely lived up to our expectations.” Sep 5, 2006 by
Guilherme from Marblehead, MA
“Very friendly, close to everything, good location. Definitely going back! This hotel was the best hotel we stayed in for the past 2 years. I really hope all Hilton Hotels are like this one.” Sep 4, 2006 by
Saravanan from Sunnyvale, CA
“The hotel is very conveniently located just across the Metro so easy to travel to New York from here. The Bad thing is the hefty 20.00 $/day parking they charge the guest. Stayed for 5 days and every day they forgot something or other with the supplies, coffee, creamer, sugar etc.” Aug 23, 2006 by
Tally from Houston, TX
“The hotel has a shuttle but there are two Hiltons in the area and if you take the wrong shuttle, neither Hilton will help you get to the right Hilton which does not help you if you do not have a car and are unfamiliar with the area. The staff was outright rude when we were stranded at 2:30 in the morning and had already paid for a room at the other Hilton. They expected us to take the shuttle back to the airport and wait another half hour for the correct shuttle to show up.” Aug 3, 2006 by
Kevin from New Carrollton, MD
“Nice staff. The hotel didn't have any double beds which I generally prefer. They were apologetic and offered to move us the nest day which we didn't because our trip was so short.” Jul 19, 2006 by
Willie from Baltimore, MD
“It is not close to the airport and because there is no restaurant I had to either go out or order from a place that charged a delivery fee on top of a require 18% gratuity.” Apr 26, 2006 by
Veera from Livonia, MI
“Rooms are small. Bathrooms are really small. Not enough room any where. The price I paid is way too much for this hotel.” Apr 5, 2006 by
Bonnie from Jensen Beach, FL
“Overall it is an excellent hotel.” Jan 18, 2006 by
Mary from Lewes, DE
“It is renovating. Therefore, it is somewhat difficult stay, although the staff was quite nice and admitted the inconvenience. If you are going to put me in a first class hotel, as you really should, since I'm one of your original customers, please don't pick one with the jack-hammers.” Jan 16, 2006 by
Becky from Kingston, MA
“Convenient to the airport, and to Newark Penn Station. Also, part of a building complex with shops and food available.” Aug 26, 2005 by
Chenin from Springfield, IL
“The hotel was nice. I did not like that there business center charged you to use the internet.” Aug 23, 2005 by
Demetria from Bronx, NY
“The hotel is quite elegant with an excellent location for commuting. The rooms are clean and nicely accommodated with amenities. The floors are quiet.” May 20, 2005 by
Richard from Salisbury, CT
“Perfect location for traveling to New York. Across the street from train station for easy & cheap access to NYC. Hotel was $200 cheaper than staying right in NYC at the same quality hotel. I'll definitely considering staying here next time I need to visit NYC on business. The restaurant is very good and so is the grill/bar. The room was very comfortable and clean. Definitely recommend.” Apr 20, 2005 by
Glenn from Arlington, VA
“As long as hotel prices in New York City remain high, the Hilton Newark Gateway offers good accommodations at a fair price. But that's about it's only selling point. Staff members working at a 3-star facility should not be satisfied with providing 3-star service.” Apr 4, 2005 by
Phil from Bel Air, MD
“This was not a bargain when you add the $20 parking fee. When a hotel has such a high fee we should be told before we accept the hotel.” Mar 16, 2005 by
Nisha from Arlington, VA
“The Hilton was not to the standard of most Hilton's. The parking garage was not attached directly to the hotel, so it required us to walk outside and around to get to our car. There was garbage and gum all over the sidewalk outside the hotel, and no staff really to help. The staff at the front desk were friendly, but not very helpful, adding no additional information that wasn't needed. It would have been nice to have been told about the resterants in the hotel, the other stores in the hall leading to Penn station, and where the elevators were. The room, although fairly clean, had sheets with holes in it, and a fairly small bathroom with a leaky tub. Additionally, the location wasn't nearly as close to NYC as I had thought.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Mar 9, 2005 by
Jasper from Farmville, VA
“I was lied to by the person who checked me in when I asked about parking at the hotel. I asked if there was parking available I was told that the parking lot was privately owned, which was true but after paying $50 to park I was told by one of the parking attendants that if I would have paid $20 at the front desk of the hotel I would have had in and out privileges during my stay. Mar 5, 2005 by
Barry from Gibsonia, PA
“No cable in room and no coffee in room. Not very pleasant front desk staff.” Feb 26, 2005 by
Terry from Grand Bay, AL
“Ordered dinner and was unable to eat meat, it was so tough I could not even cut it with my knife. There was a hole in the bathroom sink, large enough so water could not be held in sink. Van driver was extremely rude, had to wait for an employee to arrive when trying to get to airport. When asked about the departure time, drive stated, I am waiting for an employee to take to another hotel. It will not kill you to wait. And if you don't like it, you can take a taxi." The room was nice and clean and most of the staff was professional."” Feb 14, 2005 by
Juan from Babson Park, MA
“Good hotel for business trips to Newark and NY given proximity to Newark's Penn Station.” Feb 8, 2005 by
Perry F. from Zionsville, PA
“Nice except noisy garbage trucks - Backing up sound (blaring, beeping tone) and lifting up of dumpsters (?) -- must have lasted 2 hours (1-3AM)...also a bit further to airport than expected - I hoped to be almost at airport as some of the other hotels are...but overall a very nice hotel otherwise.....” Feb 7, 2005 by
Robert from Enfield, CT
“Location is convenient to work, but downtown Newark is not a place travelers go to at night.” Feb 7, 2005 by
Alvaro from Roswell, GA
“They will put you on the 3rd floor. Not the best floor. Otherwise is an excellent 3star class hotel.” Jan 25, 2005 by
Deborah from Orlando, FL
“Great location with addition restaurant and shopping stores.” Jan 20, 2005 by
Dave from Golden, CO
“Nice place if you stay at the hotel or commute into NYC. Not so hot if you plan to use a car, as it is some distance from the NJ Turnpike and major highways. The hotel will do well in that it is the business center for Newark businesses and banks.” Jan 19, 2005 by
Kerry from Chester, NY
“The main problem was that the room was ice, ice cold. We turned on the heater and it was still cold, very cold. The bottom sheet wasn't fitted, neither was the mattress pad, and so it all slid to the middle of the bed in a big ball. Then the curtains weren't wide enough to sheers, there was a 4 foot gap where the light from the street shined through so we couldn't get the room dark. It was like sleeping with the lights on. ” Jan 18, 2005 by
Al from Milwaukee, WI
“Quality of rooms were fair, below what I expected for a 3 star. Very poor HVAC, room was either freezing or overly warm, no in between. If you want easy access into Manhattan without paying Manhattan prices, you have a $3.30 train ride at station directly attached to hotel.” Jan 16, 2005 by
Jeffrey from Mount Airy, MD
“Not a 3 star. Maybe a 2 star. very modest rooms.” Jan 13, 2005 by
Fei-Wen from Grand Terrace, CA
“I do not think it is a 4-start hotel. People in the front desk are not friendly. The room (433) I stayed in smells bad and sounds noisy in the heater. Terrible night over there. In addition, the hotel has no free parking lot. Can't believe I had to pay for the parking. I advised my company never to pick up this hotel in the future.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.
