Richard from Salisbury, CT
“Perfect location for traveling to New York. Across the street from train station for easy & cheap access to NYC. Hotel was $200 cheaper than staying right in NYC at the same quality hotel. I'll definitely considering staying here next time I need to visit NYC on business. The restaurant is very good and so is the grill/bar. The room was very comfortable and clean. Definitely recommend.” Apr 20, 2005 by

“As long as hotel prices in New York City remain high, the Hilton Newark Gateway offers good accommodations at a fair price. But that's about it's only selling point. Staff members working at a 3-star facility should not be satisfied with providing 3-star service.” Apr 4, 2005 by
Phil from Bel Air, MD
“This was not a bargain when you add the $20 parking fee. When a hotel has such a high fee we should be told before we accept the hotel.” Mar 16, 2005 by
Nisha from Arlington, VA
“The Hilton was not to the standard of most Hilton's. The parking garage was not attached directly to the hotel, so it required us to walk outside and around to get to our car. There was garbage and gum all over the sidewalk outside the hotel, and no staff really to help. The staff at the front desk were friendly, but not very helpful, adding no additional information that wasn't needed. It would have been nice to have been told about the resterants in the hotel, the other stores in the hall leading to Penn station, and where the elevators were. The room, although fairly clean, had sheets with holes in it, and a fairly small bathroom with a leaky tub. Additionally, the location wasn't nearly as close to NYC as I had thought.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Mar 9, 2005 by

“I was lied to by the person who checked me in when I asked about parking at the hotel. I asked if there was parking available I was told that the parking lot was privately owned, which was true but after paying $50 to park I was told by one of the parking attendants that if I would have paid $20 at the front desk of the hotel I would have had in and out privileges during my stay. “No cable in room and no coffee in room. Not very pleasant front desk staff.” Feb 26, 2005 by
Terry from Grand Bay, AL
“Ordered dinner and was unable to eat meat, it was so tough I could not even cut it with my knife. There was a hole in the bathroom sink, large enough so water could not be held in sink. Van driver was extremely rude, had to wait for an employee to arrive when trying to get to airport. When asked about the departure time, drive stated, I am waiting for an employee to take to another hotel. It will not kill you to wait. And if you don't like it, you can take a taxi." The room was nice and clean and most of the staff was professional."” Feb 14, 2005 by

“Good hotel for business trips to Newark and NY given proximity to Newark's Penn Station.” Feb 8, 2005 by
Perry F. from Zionsville, PA
“Nice except noisy garbage trucks - Backing up sound (blaring, beeping tone) and lifting up of dumpsters (?) -- must have lasted 2 hours (1-3AM)...also a bit further to airport than expected - I hoped to be almost at airport as some of the other hotels are...but overall a very nice hotel otherwise.....” Feb 7, 2005 by
Robert from Enfield, CT
“Location is convenient to work, but downtown Newark is not a place travelers go to at night.” Feb 7, 2005 by
Alvaro from Roswell, GA
“They will put you on the 3rd floor. Not the best floor. Otherwise is an excellent 3star class hotel.” Jan 25, 2005 by
Deborah from Orlando, FL
“Great location with addition restaurant and shopping stores.” Jan 20, 2005 by
Dave from Golden, CO
“Nice place if you stay at the hotel or commute into NYC. Not so hot if you plan to use a car, as it is some distance from the NJ Turnpike and major highways. The hotel will do well in that it is the business center for Newark businesses and banks.” Jan 19, 2005 by
Kerry from Chester, NY
“The main problem was that the room was ice, ice cold. We turned on the heater and it was still cold, very cold. The bottom sheet wasn't fitted, neither was the mattress pad, and so it all slid to the middle of the bed in a big ball. Then the curtains weren't wide enough to sheers, there was a 4 foot gap where the light from the street shined through so we couldn't get the room dark. It was like sleeping with the lights on. ” Jan 18, 2005 by
Al from Milwaukee, WI
“Quality of rooms were fair, below what I expected for a 3 star. Very poor HVAC, room was either freezing or overly warm, no in between. If you want easy access into Manhattan without paying Manhattan prices, you have a $3.30 train ride at station directly attached to hotel.” Jan 16, 2005 by
Jeffrey from Mount Airy, MD
“Not a 3 star. Maybe a 2 star. very modest rooms.” Jan 13, 2005 by
Fei-Wen from Grand Terrace, CA
“I do not think it is a 4-start hotel. People in the front desk are not friendly. The room (433) I stayed in smells bad and sounds noisy in the heater. Terrible night over there. In addition, the hotel has no free parking lot. Can't believe I had to pay for the parking. I advised my company never to pick up this hotel in the future.” Jan 10, 2005 by
Carol from Columbia, MD
“The Hilton is very convenient if traveling by train to Newark, NJ, but I would probably prefer to stay at the Marriott at the airport next time. In my mind, this is not a three stars hotel.” Dec 25, 2004 by
Bill D. from Wichita Falls “The soda machines were out of water on all floors. The evening desk clerk was great. The day desk clerk was short when asked a question. The hotel was not that busy to have acted in that manner.” Dec 15, 2004 by
Scott C. from Rocky Mount “If you want a hotel that makes it easy to get into and out of NYC, this is it!” Dec 9, 2004 by
Jacshica L. from Cleveland “I stayed at the Hilton Gateway in Newark, NJ, in my opinion I thought the hotel should be a one star instead of a three star. There were holes, were there were missing tiles in the bathroom, it took the heat 24 hrs to warm up the room, even though the pay parking lot is right next door, you have to park on the top level, and there isn''t a lot of spaces for an entire hotel to park.” Dec 1, 2004 by
Carlos S. from Garden Grove “We were giving a smoking room, and were never changed afterwards. The smell was so bad that we hardly spent time in the room.” Nov 10, 2004 by
“I stayed at the Neward Hilton the previous year but was disappointed in the room that I was given this year. It was smaller and when I realized they had given me a room with a queen size bed I went downstairs and asked for a king. I was told there weren''t anymore rooms with a king. I knew that the hotel was not booked but oh well. I was given a room next to the elevators and I could hear the humming of the elevator throughout the night. Next time I think I will call ahead and specify my room.” Oct 13, 2004 by
“The Hilton Newark Gateway has a fresh, new appearance cosmetically. The building construction is low bid cheap with paper thin walls, a room door that had to be slammed to get latched plus safety night lock would not engage. AC control hanging out of wall. Parking is too far away and is extra cost equal to one half of the room rate!” Oct 6, 2004 by
Dawn C. from Bayonet Point “The Hilton was good except for its location. There was a ton of construction and it took me an hour to find a place to park and even then, parking cost $20 per day. Overall, though, I still enjoyed the experience and would do it again in a second.” Sep 28, 2004 by
Bette B. from Pound Ridge “We had an 8:00 a.m. plane and a 6:30 a.m. wake up call. The call NEVER came. We arrived in the lobby at 6:35 after waking up ourselves at 6:30 THANK GOODNESS! One of the employees drove us in the hotel van directly to the airport although the scheduled vans ran at 6:30 and 7:00 a.m. We plan to write to Hilton about the extraordinary customer service of that particular employee.” Sep 26, 2004 by
Todd F. from Wheat Ridge “The hotel was nothing to write home about. Our room was clean, but a little small. I found a number of defects, without even trying. A knob to some drawers below the TV fell off into my hand. The box spring of one of the beds slipped off its railing. I don't know how I discovered this. I think I was trying to retrieve something that slipped under the bed, and felt it sagging. Also, the night curtains were hard to draw. I think that one big disappointment was that when I called the 800 number for the hotel chain to confirm the reservation, they told me that we were being put on the concierge level. When we checked in, we were put into a regular room, not concierge level.” Sep 19, 2004 by
Jocelyn P. from Wake Forest, NC “The hotel was great and the location within walking distance from the train to NY was super.” Sep 17, 2004 by
“Nice new furnishings. Standard size room, ventilation and plumbing fixtures old and rusty. Great location across street from Newark Penn station. 20 minute train ride to mid town Manhattan. Trains leaving every 20 minutes.” Sep 8, 2004 by
Katia M. from State College “The hotel is nice but it is not the quality of Hilton hotels. It is very convenient for going to New York. It is connected with PATH station.” Hotel Representatives:
