“Desk clerk was atypically helpful and kept aware of us and making sure we were happy. Employee made a big plus for the stay. View from 10th floor was wonderful.” Feb 12, 2008 by
Mary from Gaithersburg, MD
“Hotel very clean and attractive. Located right on the beach, can walk to shops and food. Restaurant food for breakfast was excellent, and staff very friendly.” Dec 3, 2007 by
Chris from Jordan Station, ON CA
“This hotel has great views of the ocean and close to nearby dining. There was an odor in the hallways thought that gave me a sense of unclean and age.” Oct 30, 2007 by
Dee from Centreville, VA
“I stayed up one entire night cleaning and trying to disinfect the bathroom to bath comfortably. I did not sleep in the bed or bath in the room at all. I washed my linen in the hotel laundry. I was moved to another room the next day that smelled of urine, but the housekeeping staff on that floor went overboard to assist me in extra cleaning. :(.” Oct 22, 2007 by
Anna from Brunswick, MD
“I would rate this hotel a two-star or three-star place, but not three and a half stars. The hotel seemed a little understaffed, but it is off peak season, and the staff members who were there were polite, friendly and apologetic about making me wait a few extra moments to check in and out. My room was cleaner than I expected it would be, but the shower stall had some mildew, a particular pet peeve of mine (the rest of the bathroom seemed clean and recently remodeled). Still, the overall cleanliness level of the room was reasonable or typical for such a chain hotel property. Every room has an ocean view, which is a nice feature. I would definitely stay here again, although I would not deliberately seek out this property. But, I must admit that the price I paid as a business traveler was quite good, especially when compared to other hotels in this area. My bottom line for other travelers: you can probably stay here comfortably without any major problems.” Oct 15, 2007 by
Christine from Haymarket, VA
“Actually I was very excited about the hotel because of its location until I realized that dogs were allowed to stay in the hotel. The literature in the room advised that they allowed pets but stated that they would be on a different floor from their other guests. I was shocked when I ended up on the elevator with a dog and its owner. When Ive stayed at hotels that allowed pets before, the hotel ensured they offered a separate tower which meant they had elevators and rooms just for them. I never had to encounter a moment where I shared an elevator with a dog and I didn't have to go around with the thought in my head that I was sleeping in a bed that a dog had been in. Since I chose not to own a pet I should not be exposed to having to walk over pet waste and worrying about sharing the same elevator with pets especially when I paid my money for privacy and enjoyment.” Sep 22, 2007 by

“Staff was very friendly. Hotel Is on boardwalk. We were on the 10th floor and the view was amazing. You Interred from the strip side and room had a balcony on beach side. Very romantic. Was on 26th street, so the strip with all the shops was right there. I would stay there again.” Sep 19, 2007 by

“Stayed at this hotel on business. It was okay. I will probably not stay there again. Staff was very nice. The pool looked very dirty. The elevators had no air conditioning. I can only imagine how bad it would be in peak season. I'd probably try the Marriott chain next time.” Aug 22, 2007 by
Tim from Glen Allen, VA
“A nice family vacation at a hotel with friendly and cooperative staff, excellent boardwalk view and convenient location. Older hotel but clean and well maintained in spite of the abuse that resort area hotels receive. Not cheap at the peak of the tourist season but in line with other hotels.” Aug 2, 2007 by
Danielle from Fredericksburg, VA
“Overall the hotel was nice. My room wasn't as clean as I would expect. Room 206 balance door didn't have a lock on it.” Jul 3, 2007 by

“I was very disappointed with holiday inn surfside. It was rated 3 stars and looked very upscale from the outside, it was not. Very little accommodations in lobby area. No accommodations throughout. The linens were very worn and tattered. The furnishings were very basic, not updated. You had to pay for everything, internet, no business center, I needed something heated. I had to rent a microwave. The staff was taking a smoking break in front of the entrance. There were many little essentials missing. I think this is just corporate cheapness from holiday inn historically. Holiday inn needs to get with the program and cater to the leisure family traveler (including breakfast) or cater to the business traveler (having a business center or internet use). I stayed next door at Marriott for less and they were more with the times and had more accommodations. I saw something in the tub that looked like blood, I called maintenance, and they said it was in the tubs makeup because the items were at least 13 years old. Well reflect inundated accommodations in your price. Holiday's inn pricing and star rating is ultra exhibit for what they offer. Nothing! I could not even get a late check out if I wasn't a priority club member. I am, but did not have my card, but by this time I was disgusted with the experience I was ready to leave. Never again, please lower their rating! Thank you Gloria person-hub Allah.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Mar 6, 2007 by

“Fair hotel, not what we were expecting for either a 3 star hotel or a Holiday Inn. There was no microwave in the room, if you wanted one you had to pay an additional ten dollars per day and the microwave was very old. Room service did not respect the Do Not Disturb Sign on the door and walked in while we were getting dressed in the morning. The beds were hard and the sheets felt like they had been sprayed several times with starch. The room was very clean and the shampoo and soaps they provided were very nice. The lobby area was nicely decorated and also clean. Pool and hot tub were small but overlooked the beach/ocean.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Feb 22, 2007 by

“It was a very nice stay at a beach hotel at an affordable rate. All of the hotel staff was friendly and helpful including the woman providing maid service. There was only one waitress on duty to handle a large number of tables for breakfast. I felt sorry for her, and it was a waste of time for me and my family. Once served, the food wasn't that appealing and the table wasn't very clean. I like dogs, and the ones at the hotel seemed well trained. However, Iżm a little leery of dogs staying in guest rooms. There are noise and cleanliness issues. I've never seen that many dogs at one hotel before. My biggest concerns are fleas and ticks. Overall, though, it was a good experience. The location was great as was the price.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Oct 19, 2006 by

“Although this wasn't our first choice. I was so glad we switched hotels. We got a much better "bang for our buck" here. The rooms were clean and housekeeping was awesome. We enjoyed our stay and will definitely come back next year” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Sep 8, 2006 by

“The hotel accommodation were great, and the staff was very friendly. The biscuits and sausage gravy were really the low point of our whole vacation.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Aug 29, 2006 by

“We always get two rooms, one for my wife and me, and one for our two kids. We like to get adjoining rooms, or at least rooms on the same floor. The staff did not do this, and we booked rooms two months prior to our stay. Three days into our stay, the adjoining room to us was vacated, and the kids were able to move into it, but this should have been done right after we booked the rooms in May. Also, parking is difficult here. They had two other lots close by for when the main lot was full, but they should have at least handed out a piece of paper upon check-in stating this fact, along with a small street map highlighting the other two lots. We got there after a 12 hour drive, and we frankly did not want to learn about VA Beach's infrastructure at 9:30 pm. Also, there is no outdoor pool, and there won't be ever, as the property does not have the capacity to accommodate one. I really don't want to swin indoors when it is 85 degrees outside. The rooms were a bit cramped, along the lines of NY City. I would have preferred a bigger room. Also, out kids' first room was missing a light bulb on a wall fixture, and another fixture didn't even work in that room. The WiFi access was great. For the first time, I didn't have to call tech support, and the hotel gives you the WiFi router for free. Of course, you have to return it when you leave. All in all, it wasn't a bad hotel, but I've stayed in better ones.” Jul 2, 2006 by

“Hotel was clean, staff was nice and it was in a good location.” Jun 21, 2006 by

“Basically, we had a good time. Our air conditioner didn't work, but it was fixed in a timely manner. The elevators were small and crowded especially when hotel workers were trying to do their jobs and had laundry baskets, etc. crammed in with us. The biggest annoyance was the key. Each day it had to be redone. Unfortunately, each time was at night with our arms full and necessitated a SLOW elevator ride back to the lobby (we were on the 10th floor). This was very annoying. Also, key did not work when trying to re-enter the hotel from the beach. We observed many other guests with the same problem. Much time was wasted getting re-keyed and/or waiting for someone to happen by to open the door OR walking around the hotel to the entrance to gain access.” May 30, 2006 by
Zee from Rochester, NY
“There were two down falls. 1. no outdoor pool and the indoor pool is very small. 2. The restaurant was not good at all. The servers were not around and the food was poor. On the bright side the rooms very clean and room service was good. The view excellent.” May 26, 2006 by
Leon from Phoenix, AZ
“Anytime I can get a no smoking room (that really is no smoking) and a King size bed, I'm usually pretty happy. However, I came here for the beachfront and the view. I wasn't disappointed in either case. My wife and I sat on the balcony to watch the sunrise on the ocean. It was wonderful. The overflow parking wasn't a real issue. Besides, with all the things to do nearby, who needs a car. There are many choices for food in the area so the lack of a good restaurant in the hotel didn't make much difference. This was a very nice stay and I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.” May 11, 2006 by

“Great stay, would stay again any time!!!!!” May 5, 2006 by
James from Head Waters, VA
“It is beautifully located in VA Beach, with a great view of the beach and access to all the local stores and a Starbucks! The service was great, friendly, and helpful. The pool lights did not work on the night we wanted to use the jazuzzi, but that is okay! We had a wonderful time at the Holiday Inn Surfside.” May 2, 2006 by
Sandra from South Boston, VA
“Clean and nice but poor water pressure in the showers. Our room was outside the elevator and we heard a good amt of noise during the night. Parking was inconvenient by the weekend.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.May 1, 2006 by

“The hotel staff was very nice. Room was clean and all rooms have an ocean view. The parking lot is very small and even though I had a parking pass to park in the lot, many cars filled up the parking lot that did not have a pass so I had to park across the street in a remote, unsecured, lot that was very dimly lit at night. I was a little worried about parking there and walking back to the hotel alone after dark.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Mar 27, 2006 by

“There was a sign in the room which stated that if something was forgotten such as a tooth brush comb etc., they would provide one at the front desk. We went down and asked about a tooth brush and tooth paste, but they couldn't find either one. The restaurant did let us use a cork screw for a bottle of wine we had brought. It was a cold day so the indoor pool was nice. The hot tub was ok but could have been better.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Feb 8, 2006 by

“I was very happy with my stay at the holiday inn surfside. the staff was very nice. the location was right in the heart of va beach. the only thing I wished was an outdoor pool. but if it was winter I would have wanted an indoor. I would stay there again on my next trip to va beach.” Jun 13, 2005 by

“Saturday June 11th, 2005 I checked into the Holiday Inn Surfside in Virginia Beach, VA. Our first notice was that the pillows on the bed closest to the bathroom wall were dirty. Not a huge issue, we would just call front desk when we returned from dinner and get new ones. So we left the room, ate dinner walked the boardwalk and went to a comedy club and enjoyed a beautiful night in Va Beach with friends.. When we returned to the room, We started getting ready for bed. I pulled the bedding down and began to lay down when my friend screamed, I jumped up, only to see a large BUG in my bed! I saved him in a plastic bag. My friend was able to get a picture of one on the pillows . These were easily 1"-2" bugs May 17, 2005 by
