“Everything is good except for the indoor pool. Breakfast is very nice unless you are late (not much left), and the trolleys for luggages are kept inappropriately by hotel guests in their room! This was a major turn-off for us.” Jun 15, 2009 by
Mary from St Clairsville,OH
“The hotel was clean and newly renovated. The indoor pool was a bit small and the hottub was in constant use by children so we didn't get to enjoy it. Missed having an outdoor pool to lounge by. Overall, the hotel room was pleasant, the view from the balcony was great, and we had a good stay. We would definitely stay here again.” Apr 29, 2009 by
John Gram from Havre De Grace,MD
“In short, the pool, lobby, elevators, restaurant exterior and the rooms were under construction. The hotel management staff did not made any attempt to make us more comfortable” Apr 21, 2009 by
Susan from Parma,OH
“I was not pleased with the hotel. The only thing that was good about it was the staff helped me.” Feb 12, 2009 by
Terrance from Clayton,NC
“The hotel was nice and the staff is amazing and very helpful.” Aug 19, 2008 by
Stacey from Lockport, NY
“The view was great. Room was nice. Location was the best you could get for the price. Fireworks were right in front of our hotel. Over all I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting this area.” Aug 18, 2008 by
Christopher from White Post, VA
“It was expensive, but the view, staff, safety, and location were all excellent. My only complaint would be that some sort of weird insect (fruit flies?) were coming in through a crack in the bathroom tile and were all over the shower and bathroom. Overall experience was 9/10.” Jul 17, 2008 by
Darcy from Ottawa, ON CA
“Overall great stay. Nice hotel. Great location right along the beach, Boardwalk, etc. Close to restaurants etc. Room was clean. The hotel clean, well maintained. Lots of families which means no loud parties etc. In short I'd definitely recommend a stay here.” Jun 9, 2008 by
Teri from Radford, VA
“Hotel staff was very friendly and the rooms were clean. The kids loved being able to sit on the balcony and look at the beach. Valet parking made it convenient considering the busy location.” May 31, 2008 by
Shanna from Bethesda, MD
“The hotel is clean and has room service. It is also right on the boardwalk. The pool is tiny, bad for adults, great for children. The hotel restaurant closes early also (9:30 p.m).” May 25, 2008 by
Virgnia from Lodi, OH
“Great time. Great location. Overall I really enjoyed my stay.” May 23, 2008 by
Yaw from South Riding, VA
“As I said earlier on I personally like the hotel but not the restaurant and if they can do something about it then that will be great.” May 20, 2008 by
Jay from Frostburg, MD
“Staff very friendly and helpful with dining places and prompt to ask any questions asked. Would recommend this hotel to friends.” May 15, 2008 by
Kathy from Richmond, VA
“The hotel was great I requested and received a king bed, the rooms were clean, staff was very helpful and courteous, the location was fine, it was at a quiet section of the beach. I would definitely stay there again for the price. I would recommend it also. This hotel allows dogs, but I only noticed them when I left the room and saw them.” May 14, 2008 by
Dave from Collinsville, IL
“I enjoyed the hotel overall. We enjoyed our view and central location on the boardwalk. The in-house food was good, but due to party they had very little of what the menu said. I would have also liked them to keep better control of the college kids who were loud and rude during there party.” May 12, 2008 by
Paul from Willow Grove, PA
“Holiday Inn VA Beach is a solid hotel for family or business.” May 1, 2008 by
Scott from Manchester, NH
“I found the staff to be very accommodating and polite, the hotel is suffering from wear and tear but still a nice place to stay.” Apr 19, 2008 by
Debbie from Bogart, GA
“The front desk staff person was exceptionally nice, housekeeping staff were friendly and accommodating, the room was great with balcony overlooking ocean, the beds were comfortable. Nice location in the heart of VA Beach resort area. No complaints whatsoever.” Mar 25, 2008 by
Joe from Doylestown, PA
“Accommodations were adequate and the people were nice enough. I was expecting more for the star rating it had. I have young children and they failed to tell me that the pool would be out of commission my entire stay. They arranged for us to use the pool next door at the Marriott. I would have much rather just booked my stay there then have to run back and fourth from hotel to hotel. The view from the room was great right on the beach.” Mar 13, 2008 by
Dan from Naugatuck, CT
“Overall, it was a pleasant stay. Movies in the room are very expensive, but my friend and I weren't in the room for a long amount of time. At one point, we asked if we could use a microwave to heat up some leftovers and they actually sent us up a spare one for the room. That was kinda cool. The view is awesome, since all rooms face the ocean and overlook the boardwalk. The location is prime; right near restaurants, a few bars, some shops. One of the attractions on the beach is horseback riding where you get on the horses is right outside the hotel. All-in-all, it was a pleasant stay and I'd probably stay there next time. The price was appropriate for the place.” Mar 2, 2008 by
Suzanne from Fresno, CA
“Positives: friendly desk staff who did try to make our stay pleasant and the location is wonderful. On the dark side: the hotel needs a major refreshing -- and more than paint is needed. Bedcovers, linens, carpets, shower curtains, room furnishings are all very worn so that looking clean is becoming a problem. Without a renovation, I think a change of star rating to 2-2.5 would be more realistic.” Feb 20, 2008 by
Ben from Charlottesville, VA
“This hotel has an excellent location, and the ocean views are fantastic! A good hotel can be judged by its attention to detail, and this one just didn't quite cut it when it came to details. For example, our faucet was broken, so water flew everywhere when we washed our hands. The cleaning staff did not make our bed, and a large hamper of dirty sheets/towels was left in the hallway. Also, we specifically requested a non-smoking room, and they put us in a non-smoking room that adjoined a smoking room, so the smoke came in both under the door and through the fan in the bathroom. Parking was bad, even in the off-season. The lot was nearly always full, with a staff car parked illegally in front of the hotel (making turning around difficult). They have additional lots both 1 block and 2 blocks away, meaning you have to cross busy streets.” Feb 17, 2008 by
Chris from Shawnee, KS
“Either close up for the winter or maintain the hotel to an acceptable quality.” Feb 14, 2008 by
Nasir from Chesterfield, VA
“Need to be more considerate of the customers. The attitude was as though they were doing us a favor.” Feb 13, 2008 by
Paul from Coxsackie, NY
“Desk clerk was atypically helpful and kept aware of us and making sure we were happy. Employee made a big plus for the stay. View from 10th floor was wonderful.” Feb 12, 2008 by
Mary from Gaithersburg, MD
“Hotel very clean and attractive. Located right on the beach, can walk to shops and food. Restaurant food for breakfast was excellent, and staff very friendly.” Dec 3, 2007 by
Chris from Jordan Station, ON CA
“This hotel has great views of the ocean and close to nearby dining. There was an odor in the hallways thought that gave me a sense of unclean and age.” Oct 30, 2007 by
Dee from Centreville, VA
“I stayed up one entire night cleaning and trying to disinfect the bathroom to bath comfortably. I did not sleep in the bed or bath in the room at all. I washed my linen in the hotel laundry. I was moved to another room the next day that smelled of urine, but the housekeeping staff on that floor went overboard to assist me in extra cleaning. :(.” Oct 22, 2007 by
Anna from Brunswick, MD
“I would rate this hotel a two-star or three-star place, but not three and a half stars. The hotel seemed a little understaffed, but it is off peak season, and the staff members who were there were polite, friendly and apologetic about making me wait a few extra moments to check in and out. My room was cleaner than I expected it would be, but the shower stall had some mildew, a particular pet peeve of mine (the rest of the bathroom seemed clean and recently remodeled). Still, the overall cleanliness level of the room was reasonable or typical for such a chain hotel property. Every room has an ocean view, which is a nice feature. I would definitely stay here again, although I would not deliberately seek out this property. But, I must admit that the price I paid as a business traveler was quite good, especially when compared to other hotels in this area. My bottom line for other travelers: you can probably stay here comfortably without any major problems.” Oct 15, 2007 by
Christine from Haymarket, VA
“Actually I was very excited about the hotel because of its location until I realized that dogs were allowed to stay in the hotel. The literature in the room advised that they allowed pets but stated that they would be on a different floor from their other guests. I was shocked when I ended up on the elevator with a dog and its owner. When Ive stayed at hotels that allowed pets before, the hotel ensured they offered a separate tower which meant they had elevators and rooms just for them. I never had to encounter a moment where I shared an elevator with a dog and I didn't have to go around with the thought in my head that I was sleeping in a bed that a dog had been in. Since I chose not to own a pet I should not be exposed to having to walk over pet waste and worrying about sharing the same elevator with pets especially when I paid my money for privacy and enjoyment.” Sep 22, 2007 by
Eugenia from Hertford, CA
“Staff was very friendly. Hotel Is on boardwalk. We were on the 10th floor and the view was amazing. You Interred from the strip side and room had a balcony on beach side. Very romantic. Was on 26th street, so the strip with all the shops was right there. I would stay there again.” Sep 19, 2007 by
Mary Jane
“Stayed at this hotel on business. It was okay. I will probably not stay there again. Staff was very nice. The pool looked very dirty. The elevators had no air conditioning. I can only imagine how bad it would be in peak season. I'd probably try the Marriott chain next time.” Aug 22, 2007 by
Tim from Glen Allen, VA
“A nice family vacation at a hotel with friendly and cooperative staff, excellent boardwalk view and convenient location. Older hotel but clean and well maintained in spite of the abuse that resort area hotels receive. Not cheap at the peak of the tourist season but in line with other hotels.” Aug 2, 2007 by
Danielle from Fredericksburg, VA
“Overall the hotel was nice. My room wasn't as clean as I would expect. Room 206 balance door didn't have a lock on it.” Jul 3, 2007 by
Otis from Albany, NY

“We were pleased with our stay and would recommend this to our friends.” Apr 13, 2007 by

“I was very disappointed with holiday inn surfside. It was rated 3 stars and looked very upscale from the outside, it was not. Very little accommodations in lobby area. No accommodations throughout. The linens were very worn and tattered. The furnishings were very basic, not updated. You had to pay for everything, internet, no business center, I needed something heated. I had to rent a microwave. The staff was taking a smoking break in front of the entrance. There were many little essentials missing. I think this is just corporate cheapness from holiday inn historically. Holiday inn needs to get with the program and cater to the leisure family traveler (including breakfast) or cater to the business traveler (having a business center or internet use). I stayed next door at Marriott for less and they were more with the times and had more accommodations. I saw something in the tub that looked like blood, I called maintenance, and they said it was in the tubs makeup because the items were at least 13 years old. Well reflect inundated accommodations in your price. Holiday's inn pricing and star rating is ultra exhibit for what they offer. Nothing! I could not even get a late check out if I wasn't a priority club member. I am, but did not have my card, but by this time I was disgusted with the experience I was ready to leave. Never again, please lower their rating! Thank you Gloria person-hub Allah.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Mar 6, 2007 by

“Fair hotel, not what we were expecting for either a 3 star hotel or a Holiday Inn. There was no microwave in the room, if you wanted one you had to pay an additional ten dollars per day and the microwave was very old. Room service did not respect the Do Not Disturb Sign on the door and walked in while we were getting dressed in the morning. The beds were hard and the sheets felt like they had been sprayed several times with starch. The room was very clean and the shampoo and soaps they provided were very nice. The lobby area was nicely decorated and also clean. Pool and hot tub were small but overlooked the beach/ocean.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Feb 22, 2007 by

“It was a very nice stay at a beach hotel at an affordable rate. All of the hotel staff was friendly and helpful including the woman providing maid service. There was only one waitress on duty to handle a large number of tables for breakfast. I felt sorry for her, and it was a waste of time for me and my family. Once served, the food wasn't that appealing and the table wasn't very clean. I like dogs, and the ones at the hotel seemed well trained. However, Iżm a little leery of dogs staying in guest rooms. There are noise and cleanliness issues. I've never seen that many dogs at one hotel before. My biggest concerns are fleas and ticks. Overall, though, it was a good experience. The location was great as was the price.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Oct 19, 2006 by

“Although this wasn't our first choice. I was so glad we switched hotels. We got a much better "bang for our buck" here. The rooms were clean and housekeeping was awesome. We enjoyed our stay and will definitely come back next year” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Sep 8, 2006 by

“The hotel accommodation were great, and the staff was very friendly. The biscuits and sausage gravy were really the low point of our whole vacation.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Aug 29, 2006 by

“We always get two rooms, one for my wife and me, and one for our two kids. We like to get adjoining rooms, or at least rooms on the same floor. The staff did not do this, and we booked rooms two months prior to our stay. Three days into our stay, the adjoining room to us was vacated, and the kids were able to move into it, but this should have been done right after we booked the rooms in May. Also, parking is difficult here. They had two other lots close by for when the main lot was full, but they should have at least handed out a piece of paper upon check-in stating this fact, along with a small street map highlighting the other two lots. We got there after a 12 hour drive, and we frankly did not want to learn about VA Beach's infrastructure at 9:30 pm. Also, there is no outdoor pool, and there won't be ever, as the property does not have the capacity to accommodate one. I really don't want to swin indoors when it is 85 degrees outside. The rooms were a bit cramped, along the lines of NY City. I would have preferred a bigger room. Also, out kids' first room was missing a light bulb on a wall fixture, and another fixture didn't even work in that room. The WiFi access was great. For the first time, I didn't have to call tech support, and the hotel gives you the WiFi router for free. Of course, you have to return it when you leave. All in all, it wasn't a bad hotel, but I've stayed in better ones.” Jul 2, 2006 by

“Hotel was clean, staff was nice and it was in a good location.” Jun 21, 2006 by
Stephen from Junction City, KS
“Basically, we had a good time. Our air conditioner didn't work, but it was fixed in a timely manner. The elevators were small and crowded especially when hotel workers were trying to do their jobs and had laundry baskets, etc. crammed in with us. The biggest annoyance was the key. Each day it had to be redone. Unfortunately, each time was at night with our arms full and necessitated a SLOW elevator ride back to the lobby (we were on the 10th floor). This was very annoying. Also, key did not work when trying to re-enter the hotel from the beach. We observed many other guests with the same problem. Much time was wasted getting re-keyed and/or waiting for someone to happen by to open the door OR walking around the hotel to the entrance to gain access.”
