• Somewhat upscale-making you feel like you paid more than you did.
• Location for the average traveler would have been intimidating ~ gangsters in parking lot.

• The staff was very nice.

“We had a very late check in because our airplane didn't come in until 11:30 pm but the staff was very helpful with getting us checked in. We also liked that the hotel was connected to a mall, it made choosing our meals for the next day very easy.”

“Bathtub and toilet had problems since day 1, until the last night when the water backed up and all the smell permeated the whole floor. Non smoking rooms smelling like cigarettes. Probably will stay at a different hotel next time.”

“I really enjoyed this hotel. The bed was lovely and being close to shops was nice. It was convent because it was close to the beach. The only thing I had a problem with was the pool was full of bugs. It could have been cleaned out a little more better.”

• It was located right next to the mall and shopping area of Norfolk and only 15-20 minutes away from the beach.
• Not in good shape visually, old, not the.

“It was an okay hotel, good value for the price but definitely not a 3 star hotel, the 2.5 star Marriot is much better. Parking lot was sketchy at night and felt like we were in the ghetto even though anywhere directly outside the hotel parking lot was very nice.”

• The hotel was connected to a low scale mall and not a very good neighborhood.

“This hotel simply lacked the quality of an upscale three star hotel. When visiting this hotel, a person has to realize the rooms and services are lacking the three star quality, elegance, and comfort. The hotel staff, warm cookies, and nearby 18 theater cinema help give this hotel a little bit more charm despite the two star accommodations.”

• The convenience to the mall and other eateries.
• The hotel was dated. Toilet fixtures were rusty. 2 out of the 3 elevators were out of order. We could not get into the room due to door lock problem.

• You get a warm cookie when you check in.
• The hotel was part of a shopping mall and movie complex.

“This hotel wasn't terrible but was severely lacking based on my expectations of a 3-star hotel. When I arrived I discovered that this hotel was attached to a shopping mall and a movie theater. At first I thought it would be convenient to have the hotel attached to the mall but that thought is soon overshadowed by the crowded environment. You are surrounded by buildings, cars and people walking back and forth from the mall and movie theatre. There is no nice landscape to look at when you enter the hotel or look outside your window, you have buildings attached to one another and a giant parking lot. Unfortunately it was a second rate mall like the hotel, so there wasn't much to do at the mall when we had down time on the trip. Upon entering the hotel, the staff was too busy finishing up their conversation to help me at first, so it gave me a chance to inspect the lobby. The lobby looked decent, it is pretty small as far as lobbies go but at least it was clean. The room itself was clean and the beds were made, but the paint on the sink and bathtub were chipping and the balcony was a little dirty. All in all, I found it very surprising that this hotel was a Doubletree brand hotel I would have, rather, stayed at a clean, professional Holiday Inn. The rooms would have been the same size (you cant go much smaller while fitting two twins inside) and you would be in a more pleasant environment.”

• The hotel was clean and the staff was very friendly.
• The bathroom could have used some fixing.

“The hotel is in a mall. This is both a good and bad thing. First you can walk right down and go to the mall so that is very convenient. The bad part is that the mall patrons are sometimes noisy especially on the weekend. Other then the noise, which wasn't too excessive, the mall is in a good location. It is close to the military base, the beach, shopping, and is only a short drive from Williamsburg. The room was clean and for the most part it was nice. The bathroom, however, could use some fixing up. There were holes in the tiles and the grout looked dirty and old. Also the knob on the tub was a little hard to use. Other then that the room was nice. The staff was very pleasant. The room was kept clean.”

“This was an ok hotel for 1 night. Wouldn't recommend for long term. Too much people traffic from attached mall and in parking lot. Strange to have security guard out front at night. Hallways noisy, but once in room, very nice and comfortable. Towels were above average for plush and quality. Good bathroom toiletries from Neutrogena.”

“I did not like the hotel service. I have requested for 2 rooms and they gave me in 2 different floors. They did not even provide drinking water. In one of the room hot water was not coming and the service took longer time to fix.”

“I chose the location near the airport because of an early flight the next day. Upon arrival, I noticed that the lobby was nice. I went to the front desk and saw a worker typing something on the computer. He ignored me for several minutes. Then asked me what my complaint was. That seemed like a bad sign. I was expected a welcome. My room was fine but had some problems. The bathroom is old. The tub sank down when you got in it. Overall, I would give the hotel a 3 out of 5. But don't expect friendly service.”

• The location was perfect. The lobby was gorgeous. Complimentary cookie was great.
• The floors were dirty. The bathtub needed to be fixed and deglazed. Wasn't cleaned well.

“The only reason that this hotel should get a 3 star rating is for it's location and cookies. You could not have picked a more perfect location it was central to everything and the interstate was easily accessible. I was there 7 nights. When I checked I looked around there was an old sock on the balcony as well as a bunch of cigarettes. I guess nonsmoking means it's ok on the balcony. There were old chips behind the nightstand. The bathroom vanity was beautiful. The bathtub was old and there was a huge ring around the tub near the drain where it looked molded but the tub just needs to be regaled. The drain stopper was broken. When in the shower you had to quickly wash and get out because the drain was clogged and it started to fill the bath tub, which means if anyone is showering after you they had to wait until all of the shower water had completely drained out. The pool was outside and I am assuming opens early so when people wanted to swim to had to get up whether you wanted to or not because everyone was so loud and that was not good for me especially the first night since I came from the west coast. I would not recommend to anyone. There were children running up and down than halls day and night. The carpets in the halls were filthy. I came back to the hotel one night and the light covering in the hall in front of my room was on the floor as if it was not tightened on well and someone on the floor above may have been running and it came down. Hazard. Someone could have been standing there. I called the front desk about that and check a few hours later and it was still in the middle of the floor. It rained a few days while there and my floor was soaked. I am not sure if it was from the old AC leaking or the balcony door. This hotel is a disgrace to the Hilton Hotel family. I have stayed at Hilton hotels before and I would never had guess that this was one of them. I would suggest staying away. This is not a 3 star quality hotel by any means.”

“This hotel is the worst hotel I have ever stayed out. I had to go to the front desk 6 times just to get the key to work. Very dirty. Very unsafe area, do not go out at night. The double tree name is misleading; not like any other double tee. Would not recommend this hotel to anyone. I actually checked out a day early.”

“Horrible hotel, do not stay here. No way a three star hotel. Check in took over 10 minutes and I was only one there. Room disgusting and run down. Toilet did not work, engineering called twice to fix. Slowest elevators known to mankind. Unpleasant view of old mall roof. Worst hotel ever!”

• 30 miles from where I planned to stay.

“A hidden Doubletree hotel attached to a shopping center. The room was spacious, however, the non-smoking room constantly smelled like a smoking room. Travel with your own Lysol spray. The balcony on my floor was the air conditioner base which was flooded and noisy. Other then shopping not much in the area in terms of things to do. The ocean and most attractions are at least an hour away.”

• It was right in the middle of everything we wanted to see from Virginia Beach to Norfolk waterfront.
• I am easy to please and there was nothing I didn't like.

• I loved the greeting at the front desk and the delicious cookie treat to welcome you at the hotel. Staff terrific & room inviting & clean. Plush bed.
• Needs refrigerator/microwave in room.

“Enjoyed the atmosphere of the hotel. Very stylish. Room was clean and inviting with wonderful bedding and furnishings. Would love it if the room had a small refrigerator and microwave. Definitely a 3 star hotel. Highly recommend it for anyone and would stay again myself.”

“The hostess was friendly enough, helping me file an incident report since guests from the pool dripped a lot of water outside the elevator. But it would have been so nice if the hotel could have offered me a voucher or coupon of some sort to visit the double tree again. Some extra cookies would have been nice!”

“I was pleased when I got the Doubletree. But when I actually got there, I thought I was in the wrong place. This is the worst Doubletree hotel I have ever stayed in. It's right in the middle of a dilapidated shopping mall, and the location feels unsafe. If you're looking for a hotel that lives up to the Doubletree name, don't stay here.”

• The beds were awesome; the lighting in the room was adequate; I loved the thick towels!
• If you are in a hurry, use the stairs, the elevators was very slow.

“My party occupied three rooms and the staff placed us conveniently side by side. We were there for a conference and the location was perfect; just a few minuets from Downtown Norfolk. Also, the hotel is adjacent to the military mall and it was so much to see and do. There were a lot of lovely places to eat. I would definitely stay there again.”

• Our first room smelled smoky, however we were immediately given another room.

• Exterior was "dated" but inside was beautiful and very elegant. The cookies were fabulous & addictive!
• Shower pressure was not good/strong at all. Would've been nice if the TVs were able to be pulled out of bureau in room.

“Upon arriving, the exterior of the hotel was very age dated. But I know that oftentimes, it doesn't reflect the interior. As I had guessed, the interior decor was absolutely beautiful and up-to-date. The desk staff was very courteous and professional. (They got me hooked on the Doubletree cookies and the obliged me every time I came back for more! Kudos!) The rooms were very nice. Liked the balcony (although the view wasn't great), but nice to be able to step outside for fresh air. Overall GREAT experience/stay. Would highly recommend.”
