• Receptionist was pleasant.
• Dirty, smelly, concerns for safety.

“Has potential if cleaned up. I wouldn't even shower there. Room smelled awful (like an ashtray).”

“I would not recommend this hotel to anyone it was nasty, The room was dirty. I did not even sleep under the sheets. The area has trash all outside with a foul smell. The pool was very dirty looked like it had not been clean all summer. The front desk was very rude and nasty to all customers.”

• The staff was courteous and helpful and very friendly.
• The ice machine was in poor condition.

“For the price, the hotel was worth the money. The staff was courteous and helpful and the location was very convenient. Despite the outside appearance of the hotel, the room was very clean and comfortable. The continental breakfast was excellent.”

• Noisy unless you're deaf.

“Very bad hotel. It's noisy from people hanging around in cars with very loud music. It was very bad to be wakening at 2 AM by people trying to open the door to my room. These were hotel guests that were given an occupied room (my room). After an hour (3 AM), I got a call from front desk asking me who I was and what I was doing there.”

• I like this hotel because it was located closes to the college my daughter attend. I liked that there was internet access available.
• The heat was noisy. The light on the phone blinked all night.

“This is a nice hotel. I would recommend it to my friends and family. The location was great also. Whenever I visit Norfolk I stay there. The staff was nice also.”

• The location was the only thing it had going for it.
• The room was dirty, broken equipment, broken furniture.

“I do not recommend this hotel. The building could use work. The bathtub was dirty; staff did not try to clean it. I had to request soap, cups for the coffee pot and wash it. The furniture was from a used shop, knobs and handles missing, dented and dinged, there was a cigarette burn in the covers on the bed. The cleaning lady was rude and stood outside our door when we were leaving and counted her towels and was disappointed when they were all there. Ramada always had a better reputation than that.”

• I enjoyed the free breakfast they offered. Also the rooms looked above average.
• I didn't like the location of the pool. The air in the room was bearable but could have been better.

“It is great for the price you pay. It has great attraction near it like a new movie theater, restaurants, and shopping centers. Appears safe and I really enjoyed it there.”

• We did not at the Norfolk Howard Johnson.
• Not clean and not well kept.

“We were so concerned about the location and the facility that we had to go to another hotel. The room that I looked at was not clean and the lobby was not clean. We stayed at a Hampton inn and it was very clean and friendly.”

• Filthy, roaches, unsafe, bad neighborhood, and noisy.

“Chose Hojo's as a safe, clean, and affordable place to stay (since they are in CT.), and it turned out to be none of the above. Would not recommend this location or any Hojo to anyone after this trip. Had to wear flip-flops whole time in this dirty room. A big disappointment after saving all year for vacation to have to deal with this!”

“I have stayed at this particular hotel for the last 7 yrs and was very pleased. This year it was very disgusting. Roaches and a very filthy, dirt-caked shower that looked like it hadn't been cleaned ever. Although everything else outside of my room was clean, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.”

• The room was clean and had a microwave and refrigerator.
• It is really a motel in a horrible location.

“This motel is for a frugal person who values a clean bed over any frills or location. The room was clean, and there was a fridge/microwave for my convenience. It is located in an area that is a very small step up from a slum. I was afraid to go out anywhere after dark.”

“This hotel does not rate one star. It was very dirty. I would not walk on the carpet without shoes on. The pool allowed local children to use it and they took up the whole thing. I would not stay here if I had not already paid for it.”

• The girl at the desk was friendly.
• The window wall of our room was shattered and duct taped.

“The air conditioning was nearly not functioning. The towel bars were ripped off the walls. The tub wouldn't drain. No internet. Very scary location. The window wall on the front of our room was shattered and duct taped. The pool was not open. There was a bug in our bed. No place to eat.”

• Disgusting, locks dont work, 3 rooms before halfway acceptable.

“Garbage. In the worst part of town. Do not stay here. Took 3 tries to find a room that was halfway ok, and then the door lock didn't work correctly. If not for the fact that I had to leave in 5 hours for a 19 hour military flight I would have gone elsewhere.”

• Dirty floors, bathroom worked, door didnt work. Had to hold the handle a certain way. Air conditioner had to be turned up to 90 to get it to start.

“This hotel is awful. Very dirty, not comfortable and clean at all. I wouldn't give it 2 stars. We only stayed one night out of the three. We told the hotel worker that it was really nasty and we were leaving. We have requested a reimbursement. Awful experience!”

• Rude staff, mold around AC, shower & AC not work, fire detector broke, room dirty.

“Worst hotel experience ever. Rude staff when telling them about mold around AC vent, AC never got cooler than 80 degrees even at night, shower nasty than a truck stop bathroom and did not work, fire detector hung from wall and did not work, ants, no towel for going to pool. I have pictures. Will not do your name a price for hotels again.”

• The price was all that was good. I will never stay at Howard Johnson again.
• Too much to list, staff, room was filthy.

“It went from bad to worse. Asked for extra towels, was told where we could wash our towels at their laundry. Had to go to store to get stuff to clean room so we could stay there. Also had to get air fresheners. Staff made us feel that we bother. We took a day trip to DC, and it was wonderful, best part of the trip. Glad to leave. Will never stay at a Howard Johnson again anywhere. Will never pick a hotel with less than two and a half stars.”

• Poor service, dirty bathroom.

“First, the hotel messed up my reservation. The service was horrible; it was clear everyone hated their jobs. The rooms were rather dingy, especially the bathroom. The bathtub was filthy, and the bathroom was poorly lit. There was also limited parking at the hotel, they even left a note advising visitors to park at a nearby shopping center.”

• Had a working toilet and electricity.
• Filthy dirty room doesnt take off your shoes.

“Filthy dirty hotel. Needs renovation in the worst way. Is now called Howard john sons. Internet is only good in certain rooms. They advertise a pool, but shouldn't the pool have water in it? Carpet was so dirty, filthy; we did not get out of our shoes until we got in bed. Don't walk in the room without shoes. A/c not worth a darn. Hot room. Have I mention that the rooms are disgusting? Do not stay here! I m calling hobo after I am done typing. Neighborhood is not safe.”

• Location across the road from a beautiful beach.
• Two rooms tried were barely inhabitable. Peeling paint, plaster falling off, rotting wood, cobwebs on the walls & staff unable/unwilling to accommodate.

• Breakfast on day 1.
• Breakfast on day 2 i.e. Monday of long weekend.

“Hotel is okay, conveniently located. Rooms are clean and pretty okay too. But could feel stale air in the rooms. The breakfast was really good on day1 and good on day 2 too, but they didn't bother refilling many items though many guests seemed not to get any food items. Overall is a good place to stay nothing upscale.”

• So much stain carpet, bad smell room, dark room, dirty bathroom.

“I feel unsafely this hotel, especially night time wired people walking around this hotel. They said new renovated room, not at all. I can tell furniture, bed, chair, and desk; those are looks new to me, but need to fix whole room or hotel building.”

“Horrendous, Filthy, No Towels, Front desk staff rude. Looked like flea bitten motel, inside dirty. Signs as recent renovations "what decade?", no microwave even though listed as amenity. Had to walk to another building upper floor to find ice machine that worked. Door lock worked on and off due to some problem. At least, that is what front desk said. Unsafe. My wife was afraid of me leaving her alone while I went to get ice. Worst experience I have ever had. This is second bad experience through your service. We are retired and planning a trip to Vegas which I will go with someone more reputable.”
