• Location.
• Not quite as nice and the Sheraton a block over, and was expecting more.

“Nice, clean, good location, but was expecting more being a Marriott (decor, size of room, etc.). The Sheraton a block over was wonderful and we thought the Marriott would be just as good or better and it was just okay.”

• Decor, location, ease of access.
• Business center. You have to pay for interner access on your own computer in your room.

• Staff was friendly and courteous, especially the front desk!
• Parking -$14.00, and if you leave during the stay the count starts over. That is absurd.

• The view was amazing from my room!
• No bathtub, only a shower.

“The staff was courteous and extremely friendly. The view from my room was absolutely amazing! I could see the new Marina and the night sky was gorgeous! Although I could very easily see into the next building, it was still a great view! The room was large and very accommodating. The only downside was that there wasn't a full bath, only a shower that didn't have a lip so that if you stood too close to the shower curtain, the water went out into the bathroom. But overall, a very nice, romantic place!”

• We arrived at 2:00 AM. They parked our car, smiled at us and handed us our keys to a beautiful room. It was great.

• Great view from concierge level. Comfortable bed.
• Must pay for parking.

“The hotel was great. Upper floor offer nice view. As with most downtown facilities, patrons must pay for parking. I just hate paying $14 to park for less than 24 hours. I always feel as if I'm being taken advantage of.”

• The waterside view.
• We could hear the family beside us too clearly, every word.

• When I asked representative at the front desk for directions she gave me a location to far out.

“I have stayed in dumps for more money that they accepted for this hotel and this hotel is far from a dump! Although we were there for just one night, the hotel got our vacation started on the right foot. Staff was all very courteous, I highly recommend this place!”

• It was absolutely beautiful and spacious!
• The bathroom had a leak in the ceiling.

“This hotel was absolutely beautiful. We could not have asked for a better room to spend our vacation. In fact, we enjoyed more of our time in the hotel than the activities that we had planned. Great hotel!”

• The room was spacious and the bed was fluffy. Had a great two night stay there. Pool was nice and the location was city but it was alright.
• My room service order was messed up, and I didn't like all the company that stayed in the hotel, they were young college students and loud.

“I enjoyed my stay, it was a honeymoon for me and my wife. It was great. Only problem is that I wish I could have stayed longer.”

• Could use a firmer mattress for us old folks.

“The Norfolk Marriott Waterside was a grand experience with luxurious overtones. Service was ultra polite and fast, the rooms and overall building well maintained and very clean, and the restaurant excellent. I recommend it to anyone who wants to get out.”

• The feather bedding was incredible.
• The maid knocking on the door at 9:00am. No honor bar or refrigerator in the room.

“We had a wonderful time at this hotel. The staff was superb. The rooms were tidy. The view was incredible. My husband and I were very pleased. We will definitely stay in this hotel again.”

• View of the Norfolk harbor was excellent.
• Parking fees of $14 $20 per night.

“Marriott was great and room service provided excellent service. Dining room staff was awesome and didn't charge us for our (2) under 10 year old children, (even though they could. Hotel staff was great, front desk was a little slow in the early mornings.”

• I have never had a negative experience.

“My family and I have been visiting at Oriental Inn for thirty years. The business is family owned and you are treated as family when you go there. The service is attentive and pleasing. I've never received a dinner I didn't love. Egg rolls are the very best Ive ever tasted, and Crab Rangoon is my daughter's favorite. Warm fresh homemade dinner rolls are served with your main course. Some of our favorites are beef sub-gum chop suey, sweet and sour pork or chicken, shrimp fried rice, etc. And of course you will receive your fortune cookie at the end of your dinner. Great food.”

• Some areas had a slightly musty/mildew smell.

“Great location. Walking distance to the Scope, the Macarthur Mall, Waterside area. Excellent restaurant, Shula's, really surprised us. We'll be eating there again. Friendly staff. Some areas of the hotel (near the ice machine on our floor) had a musty smell. Beds were comfortable, showers were hot. We had a nice view of the waterside area, though the window could've used a washing - I was still thrilled with our room's location. Would definitely stay there again.”

“I had confirmed 2 wks in advance that I needed a king bed room and fridge. When we arrived we had a double room and no fridge. We changed rooms but still didn't get a fridge for a day. Also, the restaurant in the hotel was way overpriced!”

• Room was very nice as was the hotel. Most of the facilities were very good.
• The drink vending machines were empty and hot tubs were getting monopolized by a few guests due to the doors and also unhealthy behavior was noted.

“Very nice hotel with good staff and fantastic location. Good restaurant and facilities. I wish it had a parking garage which added another $14 to daily cost of stay.”

• We didn't know about the parking pass until we'd already paid extra.

“We stayed here while in VA for the VA beach 1/2 marathon. It's good to be away from the crowd. It took us only 20 minutes to get to the beach and the start of the marathon. The staff was friendly. There are restaurants within walking distance and the scenic area is wonderful. I'd highly recommend them!”

• Beds were uncomfortable. Parking was hard.

“The street entrance was blocked with cars so I had to find the parking garage. Entrance from garage was locked (after hours) so I had to walk to the front entrance of the hotel, check in, then go back to my car. Beds were way too soft. I sunk so far in, I could barely move. Other than that, it was very good.”

• Requested a light bulb to replace and a garbage can-none in the room- never came.

“The hotel was a great! It has a great location and the room was beautiful! It was very busy the weekend we were there. I requested a garbage can in the room (didn't have one!) And a light bulb changed and it never happened. I did call for more towels and a change of pillows since Im allergic to down and they bright those. The bed is so comfortable the only drawback for us allergy sufferers is it's not hypoallergenic- everything is down- my worst nightmare!”

• We liked the cleanliness and the outside Jacuzzi and pool.
• Noisy. Staff not friendly.

“Room was nice and hotel was clean however, we had someone try to come into our room late at night. We were told by front desk that they didn't know we were in the room. We were then told that someone of the exact same name just checked in. Neither here or there, is point, it was not good nights stay at all. Hotel employee didnt even apologize for the problems we encountered. I did write the hotel Marriott a long letter. Personally, I'd never go back to that particular hotel.”

• I was upgraded from a city view room to a water view room.
• No on-site parking.

“If you're a fan of the Marriott chain, this branch will not disappoint. While there is no on-site parking, the parking garage around the corner is both convenient and reasonably priced. The lobby is somewhat small for this chain, but the guest rooms are as to be expected from the Marriott name. Guests who score a water view room will be pleased with the scenery.”
