“This hotel should be more closely watched by the people who own it. The staff and particularly the front desk people are ruining this hotel. I have stayed here several times. I asked to cash an American Express travelers check. the reply? We are not allowed. I have never once been given what I requested. I have never been able to get to the pool. The key could not be found, the out of order sign was up. I mean over four years. The nicest rooms I have had at this hotels were always dusty and smelling old and stale. The front desk crew treat the hotel clients as if they are football coaches dealing with unruly players. One front desk employee held her hands up in the time out signal to a hotel customer. She said, Hey! and gave the time out signal. The valet parkers could not find one guests keys to his car for over an hour. This man was going to miss his flight, he told me. The large glass front doors always are coated in finger prints. I get the feeling that the front desk people get hired and then bring in their cousins, nephews, etc. to work in the hotel. Personally I would fire all of them, and the person who is supposed to be in charge of them too. Does not read these posts. That staff is ruining a nice hotel. The actual rooms can be nice but.” May 2, 2008 by

“Very good experience. Would like to have a more robust exercise room.” Feb 10, 2008 by
Annette from Princess Anne, MD
“When we went to check out there was no one at the desk and that detained us and parking fees were 25 dollars and the site said 20 when we checked out the employee checking us out was very rude.” Feb 5, 2008 by
Bill from Cortland, NY
“Getting slammed with extra parking charges is a big turnoff. We should have been apprised that the pool/hot tub were under renovation. Bar prices vary by the whim of the bartender.” Jan 23, 2008 by
Gerry from Baltimore, MD
“Nice hotel. Nice neighborhood away from downtown bustle. Almost four stars.” Nov 28, 2007 by
Tom from Sparta, NJ
“For a stay in downtown Baltimore, you can't beat it.” Jul 31, 2007 by
Martha from Avon, CT
“On first appearance I was satisfied, and you must take into account that it is being renovated, but after going up stairs I found some areas which were not nice. The parking charge was very high and should have been validated by the hotel for guests. We found no restaurants in the area so we were forced to eat breakfast in the hotel. The breakfast was good, but we were charged $15.00 each for 2 eggs over easy with bacon - excessive. We stayed in 6 other hotels/motels on our vacation and everyone served free breakfast. We were never informed that there was free coffee in the restaurant or if or where the "signature cookies were". We never saw them. We asked at the desk for information on mass transit. We were directed to a location to pick up the train, and were told we could take a taxi to the train and we could call for a taxi to pick us up there when we returned. They told us we could call the hotel and they would call for a taxi for us. We took their card with their numbers and tried to do that. However, the fist # we dialed on the card went to voice mail and the 2nd # was no longer in service. We tried a number of times. We luckily had seen a cab and had written down the # so we called them directly and it took them over one hour to pick us up. We were waiting in a very desolate area which was a little scary. We were able to get a cab; we finally did - after midnight. After speaking with other people who stayed in other local hotels, they said their hotels had a van which picked up and delivered them to the mass transit spots. Good idea! Everyone was nice and fairly friendly but they should be better informed on area issues such as these. Also, in the other hotels & motels where we stayed, we found computers which guests could use. Not everyone has a laptop. Those are a huge convenience which was lacking here.” Jan 10, 2007 by
Terry from Elizabethtown, KY
“Very difficult to find and limited restaurant availability in the area. Transportation is a must. No business center, very expensive parking fee, very quiet, but out of the way unless you are visitant the school near-by.” Dec 4, 2006 by
Anne from Cary, NC
“This is the second time that I have stayed at this property and have been very happy on both occasions.” Sep 27, 2006 by
Ross from Charleston, SC
“Nice hotel, enjoyed stay, very nice price.” Sep 22, 2006 by
Jean F. from Atlanta, GA
“The carpet in our room had not been vacuumed from the last guest. there was a host of human clipped toe nails on the floor. I went to the front desk and complained and was told they would either move us or make an adjustment on our bill. neither happened. housekeeping came an vacuumed the toe nails up, however the entire floor and along the side of the baseboard was extremely dusty. we will never visit this hotel again.” Sep 21, 2006 by

“We had been called at the midnight (2:30am) from the front desk for nothing. The reason she called was she couldn't hold on us during the day time. I have several reservations with the same hotel from 8/29 to 9/13. They couldn't assign the same room to us even we requested earlier. Beside, they assigned smoking and one queen bed for us even we also requested for non smoking and two double beds in advance. ” Sep 21, 2006 by

“We had been called at the midnight (2:30am) from the front desk for nothing. The reason she called was she couldn't hold on us during the day time. The electronic keys wouldn't work for many times; they wouldn't change the room for us even we requested. They even didn't apologize for the inconvenience caused by the key and delayed (we waited for thirty minutes to have them fix the problem.)” Sep 18, 2006 by
Clarence from Raleigh, NC
“This hotel is not senior friendly.” Sep 16, 2006 by
Cindy from Wayne, ME
“We enjoyed the hotel. The staff was friendly not knowledgeable however, they couldn't find our reservation for the 2nd night although it was there. The bathroom was just a stall shower the first night and very small the second night it was a full bathroom but the toilet made a lot of noise. The rooms and hotel were very clean.” Sep 13, 2006 by
Thomas from New York, NY
“I like the staff at this hotel but the location is terrible. there is no real restaurants to eat at outside the hotel. it is location right next to john Hopkins university this would be a nicer hotel for families visiting there sons or daughters.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Sep 8, 2006 by

“Comfortable beds, spacious rooms. freshly baked cookie given at check-in was nice.” Aug 29, 2006 by
Steve from Edison, NJ
“Lobby was beautiful. The room was nice, although it was a smoking room with some odors. (We asked for, but could not get a non smoking room. Morning buffet was plentiful but I thought they should have a reduced price for a child. But I can't get over charging a hotel guest $18 to park on premises for one night. This should have been made apparent before I parked in the lot.” Aug 25, 2006 by
H from Indianapolis, IN
“Staff very helpful but generally the hotel was too small and dated to have a 3 star rating in my opinion. I am thankful to other travelers for alerting me about the overnight parking fee-I opted for public transportation rather than renting a car in order to avoid that additional expense. I would have been very unhappy to have been surprised by that.” Aug 3, 2006 by
Joan from Sarasota, FL
“We were not given a choice of smoking or not and we got a smoking room. All the no smoking rooms were booked. They offered to move us after one night, but we declined. The restaurant was being renovated and the temporary arrangements were not very good. However, there was another restaurant nearby for breakfast.” Aug 3, 2006 by
Pam from Chestertown, MD
“While I would recommend this hotel for anyone interested in staying in Baltimore. Without exaggeration, every time I talked to someone at the front desk, I'm not a 'fully paying' customer.” Jul 18, 2006 by
Jack from Tampa, FL
“This is a very nice hotel. We enjoyed our stay there. It was in a nice location and I felt very secure about the car parking. The cookie at check-in was a very nice touch and the kids really loved it. I would have enjoyed it even more if they would have offered a continental breakfast or some breakfast choices within a more reasonable price range.” Jul 12, 2006 by
Jeff from Richland, PA
“The Inn at the Colonnade was a nice, clean hotel, convenient for our vacation in Baltimore. The staff were extremely friendly, and welcomed us at check-in with warm cookies -- yum! We usually stay at motels that offer a free breakfast, so we missed having that option. The room service was too pricey for our budget, so we ended up having to go look for a restaurant to eat breakfast in. We checked into the option of having a microwave and/or refrigerator in the room, but at the cost of $40.00, decided to fore go that! The parking garage was conveniently located near the hotel, but was rather expensive. We would probably consider staying here again.” Jul 9, 2006 by
Brenda from Berlin, MD
“This was a great experience.” Jun 11, 2006 by
Carl from Virginia Beach, VA
“I believe this is an older hotel in the Doubletree line that has been remodeled, but I'm not sure. They appear to be still in the remodeling stage. Very little contact with the staff after checking in. They looked at me like I was some sort of sneak.” May 30, 2006 by
Linda from Midland, TX
“The Inn at the Colonnade is an elegant, comfortable hotel that offers the feeling of home. Large rooms, friendly staff and comfortable beds are included in the stay.” May 20, 2006 by
Jere from Altoona, PA
“Gave us the smallest room in the motel. One bed. Wouldn't give us later checkout or give us room with 2 beds. Parking was $18 a day. Charged for USA Today. Did have free Wi-Fi which was nice. Nice pool. Wouldn't ever consider this place a 3 star motel. I assume it gets this rating because of its normal nightly cost. But believe me it is way overpriced.” May 12, 2006 by
Joel from Durham, NC
“The guy at the front desk hooked me up with an incredible room.” Apr 26, 2006 by
Greg from Natrona Heights, PA
“Close to the Johns Hopkins University with clean room and good service. Many details left unsure. No ice, had to go to a disconcerted restaurant worker. Parking was overpriced and valet left you out in the rain because of the renovation. Phone not working properly, etc. Just annoying little stuff.” Apr 18, 2006 by
Scott from Erie, PA
“If you're visiting Johns Hopkins University, the location is ideal because it's literally walking distance to the campus. However, it is not close to downtown or the main attractions (approx. 5 miles to Inner Harbor). Parking costs extra ($18.00 per 24 hours for self parking, even more with valet). I was disappointed that I could not get a room with two beds, which I requested. The room was clean and fairly comfortable, although the pillows were very thin and did not provide a comfortable position for sleeping.” Apr 18, 2006 by
Jim from Plainsboro, NJ
“Lights did not work in room, ice machine broken, fitness center under renovation, restaurant under renovation. Might be nice when they are finished fixing the hotel but for now not convenient to have so many things not working.” Apr 10, 2006 by
David from Enfield, CT
“Nice large rooms and clean, great location in a very safe neighborhood, appears to be an older property that was purchased by Doubletree as bathrooms show their age. Everything was well kept and service was good, but I recommend the bathrooms be updated.” Apr 9, 2006 by
Michael from Worthington, OH
“Once again, I called the hotel after getting a confirmation and requested 2 double beds and no smoking room. They indicated they could not change the reservation, but I should let them know upon check in. I arrived around 5:30 PM and following instructions requested 2 beds and non smoking room and got a very difficult time from the hotel reservation person who had me in a single bed, smoking room and wasn't about to change it in fear of getting into trouble. She ended up putting me in a HCP room with two beds. Once again this is becoming a major hassle. The following night in Fredrick I got the same deal at the Holiday Inn Express. Although I like the pick you own price option, I am continually getting a problem when I request 2 beds and non smoking room. ” Mar 31, 2006 by

“Did I stay in the same hotel as the people who compared this place to a spa? Yes, the lobby area is nicely redone. However, the rooms are another matter. Our suite featured torn curtains and worn bedding. The valet left our new BMW outside for several hours, unlocked. Need help with luggage? Too bad, there's no one around. The free wifi was a nice gesture, but the signal was too weak to be much use. There are no Ethernet ports in the rooms.” Dec 27, 2005 by
Debora from Canfield, OH
“Very nice and clean. Didn't like the idea of having to pay $20 more to park the car each night.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Dec 2, 2005 by

“You can not beat the location if you are visiting Johns Hopkins Homewood Campus, but be prepared to be housed as a "student". The grand entrance and lobby is but a tease for the shabby room that awaits you. Staff are extremely helpful.” Nov 30, 2005 by
Susan from East Brunswick, NJ
“Didn't spend a whole lot of time at the hotel mostly to attend a family function the next day. The room was OK but the bathroom was awful barely big enough to take a bath. I loved the cookies upon arrival.” Oct 25, 2005 by
Clarence from Raleigh, NC
“Can be a great hotel with better oversight.” Oct 20, 2005 by
Brent from Rocky Mount, NC
“Very nice location across the street from johns hopkins. A ways from downtown but location worth the small drive, very beautiful lobby and nice room. Pool is really cool with an atrium and a nice view, but too shallow to really swim.” Oct 18, 2005 by
Tinker from New York, NY
“The Inn at the Colonnade is the perfect spot for all Johns Hopkins events from water polo and lacrosse to the art museum all within walking distance.” Oct 3, 2005 by
Thomas from New York, NY
“Nice place to stay, but no where to eat besides the hotel restaurant.” Sep 28, 2005 by
Sascha from Skillman, NJ
“The Inn At The Colonnade is a great option for anyone visiting JHU. Clean with all of the amenities one would expect from a Doubletree. No complaints whatsoever. Helpful and pleasant staff.” Sep 12, 2005 by
Marissa from Austin, TX
“Excellent location to visitors to both Towson and Johns Hopkins. It is not close to any restaurants (only a small cafe on the corner). Also, parking is $18/day, so be sure to factor that into your expenses. It was an absolutely beautifully decorated hotel, similar to a spa.” Sep 8, 2005 by
Pat from Denville, NJ
“This hotel is one of the best - its decor is elegant, its staff is friendly, and the rooms are fine. The check-in cookie is delicious! We liked the understated quality. We would travel a lot, and this place is one that we really enjoy.” Aug 22, 2005 by
Shirley from Lakewood, CO
“Would not recommend this hotel because of the distance to any transit and the lack of knowledge from staff on local ammenities.” Jul 31, 2005 by
Mark from Milton, WV
“This property had a very nice staff with a very clean and pretty hotel. The drawback is the availability of a meal. All the hotel offered was their dining room fare which although it looked good it was not what one looks for in an evening arrival meal. This inconvenience was compounded by the lack of restaurants within walking distance.” Jul 20, 2005 by
Cheryl from Manassas, VA
“I was extremely pleased with everything about the hotel. The staff was attentive and courteous (we were greeted with warm cookies at check-in) and the room was clean and extremely comfortable.” Jul 20, 2005 by
April from Denver, PA
“The associates of the Inn were nice and friendly. Has a great location if you have business at the university across the street. Paying to park while a guest is sad. Parking should be validated.”
