- It was a lovely example of historic atmosphere.
- The traffic outside was horrendous! The room next to us was obnoxious loud with an adjoining door.
“Over all the hotel was lovely and the staff was very helpful. However there were motorcycles drag racing in front of the hotel until at least midnight and there was a door adjoining the room next to us, where there were small children that began running around and squealing loudly at 6 AM, so not a lot of sleep was gotten. My husband said the mattresses were as old as the hotel and the room was either hot or cold and very loud depending on whether the air was running or not.”

“Old restored hotel. We were on the top floor and the street noise was still loud. Super expensive restaurants. 3 people had to share a king bed due to lack of two queen bed rooms and $10 per night for a roll away bed. Rooms are small. Staff was very friendly and helpful.”

- Awesome hotel with an excellent restaurant.
- The location was deserted and didn't feel safe.
“The hotel was better than expected. The cleanliness of the room was good. The pillows were hard to sleep on, the restaurant in the hotel was excellent and the prices were ok. The streets around the hotel were deserted and didn't feel safe to walk around. The hotel didn't have a pool which was a big disappointment to my kids. Overall it was a pleasant experience.”

- The staff was over the top with helping my family.
- The windows on the 5th floor in the rooms actually open!
“When we first arrived, we were placed in the wrong room, on the 5th floor, with just a king size bed. Traveling with 3 adults and 3 children that would not work. Not to mention that the windows in the room actually opened up! I can't imagine sleeping well in a room where my 2 year old can open the window and fall out. When all this was brought to the attention of the hotel staff, they immediately switched our room to the 3rd floor, the most convenient, with the business center, laundry room and ice machine all on that level. From that moment on, the staff made sure we were comfortable and happy. Checking in and out was very easy, and the valet parking was only slightly inconvenient. Once the vehicle was parked, we had no access to it unless they drove it back down.”

“This hotel is located in the heart of historic York, PA. The rooms are spacious and provide wireless and "hard-wire" internet access. Hotel is conveniently situated between Gettysburg, Hershey and the charming Dutch Amish country. Whether you are traveling for business or pleasure, the Yorktown can provide a pleasant place to stay and whatever amenities you might require.”

- It had a very nice Charming appearance.
- It was very dirty.
“I would rate our stay less than one star. We had roach bugs that measured about 1.5 inches and were very aggressive. There was a beer bottle behind the nightstand. The room was overall very dirty, dusty and had a bad musky dirty smell. Also the carpet had very many stains on it and was very old and worn out. There was a lot of dust under the beds and you didn't have to look for it. Lights were not working and so on and on. They did offer us free breakfast, but we didn't to eat there because of the roach bugs. I would not recommend this hotel to anybody for any reason.”

Staff:[10] •
Location:[8]
- Attractive, historic, convenient, gracious staff, snacks in lobby.
- Grill was noisy because bar isn't separate from dining area. Ice & beverage area dreary.
“My teenage daughter and I stayed here while attending a concert at the nearby theater. As other had mentioned, the valet parking is difficult to find, but very helpful. Rooms are being renovated from the top floor down, and we had a very nice room on the top floor. The windows opened, so we spent some time enjoying the view of the city. Generously sized room, flat screen TV, comfortable bed with many not-so-comfortable pillows. There are a good number of eating places within walking distance, and the desk personnel were very helpful about giving directions. We ate dinner at the more casual restaurant in the hotel because I thought it would give us more time to return to our room before leaving for the concert. However, next time I might not stay here, as our waitress, although very nice, took so long to bring our check that we had to rush. Also, the bar area is not separated from the dining area, and since there was a very loud group of young men at the bar it was difficult to hear each other across our table. The next morning, we walked the short distance to the farmer's marked and had a tasty, inexpensive breakfast. On the whole, the downtown area is clean and attractive, with a number of small shops and restaurants, however, we didn't venture too far from the hotel. Two street people who walked through the hotel lobby were escorted out the door by hotel personnel. There were enough people on the street after the concert that I didn't feel unsafe walking the short distance to the hotel, and I didn't feel uncomfortable during the day, but might not wish to walk alone at night. We definitely enjoyed our visit, which was made even better for my daughter when she discovered the performers were staying on our floor and met a couple of them in the hallway.”

“The Yorktown has historic charm and a nice downtown location. Our room, though, was in a more recent addition that lacked some of the charm of the original building. The windows must have been poorly insulated, as we were woken several times each night with outside noise - sirens, garbage truck, traffic, etc. The TV remote did not work, the carpet was stained and the bathroom exhaust fan was clogged with lint. The room was large and comfortable and the staff very friendly and helpful.”

- The staff was absolutely wonderful! Clean rooms, comfortable.
- The drag racing that could be heard all the way on the 8th floor. It went on until very late, and was very loud. (street racing).
“Everything about the hotel was wonderful except the racing outside. A police car pulled up outside, parked as the officer went to the coffee shop for some coffee. During this time, the street traffic was quiet. However, once the officer returned to his car and left, the noise started just as loud as before. It was a true nuisance. I would recommend the hotel in a heartbeat if not for the noise. We loved it.”

- Old hotel which has been remodeled, very pretty and elegant for historical hotel.
- Hotel had a musty smell, location right downtown York, had to park valet every time and pay to park.
“The hotel was a nice hotel for being a older hotel. Bathroom was very small and only had a shower stall. Parking for the hotel was horrible. Had to pay and valet every time you came back and forth. Not in the best section of downtown York. Hard to get to hotel because of all the one way streets. Would not stay there again.”

- Huge room, nice fitness room, quaint/historic feel.
- Almost no place to eat in downtown York on the weekend.
“The Yorktown Hotel is a very nice historic hotel. The service was excellent - valet parking attendants were particularly friendly and helpful. My room was huge with a walk-in closet. The location isn't great on a weekend. Most of the restaurants in downtown York are only open Mon-Fri. The hotel restaurant seemed nice, but I did not eat there. The Yorktown is definitely the best option in downtown York.”

- The size of the room and the grandness of the lobby.
- Too far, out of our way. Not a nice part of town, sirens.
“This was a very nice hotel, original moldings, some renovations, nice chandeliers. But my husband was furious that it took us 40 min off the interstate to get there, and we were not impressed by the neighborhood. The night quad told me that "the police take good care of them" and come right away for any trouble. This did not reassure me. I had 3 boys with me (teenagers), so the room size was nice. But $95.00 was a lot for that kind of inconvenience. I will have to be more careful next time.”
