“Wow! We were really happy with this hotel. A 2.5 star rating is kinda low. I loved the ambiance, location, and complimentary breakfast! The hotel was also in a great location to everything. We would definitely stay again.” Jul 3, 2009 by
Katherine from Philadelphia,PA
“I'd highly recommend the hotel to anyone travelling to DC. The staff was exceedingly helpful and friendly, even though we paying what amounted to pennies since we got the room so cheaply through Priceline. Though it was relatively large and comprised two buildings, it was not a chain and it had more character and charm than a large, prefab hotel. We had a beautiful corner room with views of the city and residential areas. The room wasn't large, but it was spacious and comfortable and the kitchenete was such a nice feature. The bed was very comfortable and we had a very nice stay overall.” Jun 4, 2009 by
Karen from Hanover,NH

“This hotel had a great location a couple blocks from the Capitol. We were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go, and the Metro was just a block away. It was nicely furnished, clean, and included a convenient kitchenette. It also had a free continental breakfast, great for a quick bite before setting off for the day. On the negative side, parking was an issue. There was a $35. charge per day for their small lot (if available), and otherwise, you were left to find parking on the street. We received a $30 parking ticket, because you could only park on certain sides of the street on certain days and between certain hours.” May 21, 2009 by
DC from Sunnyvale,CA
“This was a very comfortable hotel in a perfect location. A few blocks from the Capitol, across from LOC, near Metro I will stay here again and again. Clean, great location, reasonable, comfortable.” Apr 20, 2009 by
Janine from Port Melbourne,Austria
“I would highly recommend this hotel as the rooms were a great size, the king size beds were very comfy and the area felt safe, it was very central and it was only 1 block away from a metro station.” Mar 26, 2009 by
Steph Johnson from Edgewater Park,NJ
“I notice some up grading since the last time I stayed there, with the computers, and the rooms. I was very impressed.” Mar 25, 2009 by
Yaohui from Morgantown,WV
“Sometimes there will be no parking place available for this hotel. Good location, good staff.” Jun 16, 2008 by
David from Coeur Dalene, ID
“Nice space but the accounting people charged my credit card for the entire bill and had a difficult time straightening things out. Other than that everything was very nice. Close to Metro, making it convenient to the entire city.” Jun 4, 2008 by
Tiffany from Hopewell Jct, NY
“Excellent location! The hotel is about a block away from the Capitol South Metro stop, and a couple of blocks away from the Capitol Building. My boyfriend and I were able to walk the entire mall and make it back to the hotel without having to worry about getting lost. Also, there were several restaurants and banks on our block. The location is perfect for seeing all of the monuments, White House, etc. We took the Chinatown bus from New York City, to Chinatown in D.C. The Metro station was also only a few blocks away from the bus stop along a street lined with restaurants. They are still doing construction, beginning at about 9:30-10 a.m., but you can't beat the price and location.” Mar 7, 2008 by
Gus from Austin, TX
“Hood hotel for the price and location.” Mar 3, 2008 by
Mike from Richlands, NC
“This hotel was run sloppily, staff was rude and unhelpful. A work crew began drilling holes in the walls beneath us at 615 in the morning. They shut the water off to the room at 8 a.m. and didn't turn it on again until 5 p.m. There was no on-site parking, which would have been good to know beforehand. I will never visit this dump again.” Aug 1, 2007 by
Monte from Tampa, FL
“Until the new owners of the Capitol Hill Suites make their promised $6 million renovations, I won't be back. While I knew it was a converted apartment complex, I was not expecting a musty smell in the "annex" (which was about 2/3 of the rooms). Peeling paint, bathroom fixtures not fully attached, and a very old and tired rollaway mattress were not what I was expecting. I was not expecting a continental breakfast, which was not quite up-to-par for a "suite" hotel (think Hampton Inn style) and the breakfast room was simply a large open space with folding tables and chairs.” May 14, 2007 by
Robert from Slidell, LA
“This hotel served our purpose very well. I attended a professional meeting in D.C. My wife accompanied. We did some sightseeing. They have central heating/air-conditioning which needs replacement with individual room control. Part of the time the air conditioning had not yet been turned on for the warm season.” Feb 14, 2007 by
Gwen from Pittsburgh, PA
“Friendly staff, excellent location close to capitol hill. Accommodations were clean, acceptable, if not a bit run down.” Dec 15, 2006 by
Eric from Greenville, SC
“Old hotel with a good location, problem to park your car. Free breakfast.” Dec 11, 2006 by
Chuck from Carson City, NV
“I got to my hotel room around 11 pm and discovered that my room had no heat. Trust me when I say the temperature in my room was only marginally better than the freezing temperature outside. So I called the front desk only to be informed that they were sold out and didn't have another room to put me in. They told me to try switching the thermostat from 'heat' at 90 degrees to 'cold' at 60 degrees. 'I know that sounds strange,' the gal at the front desk deadpanned, 'but it just might work.¿ it didn¿t.¿ sorry, the only thing we can do is bring you a couple of extra blankets and then switch you to another room tomorrow,' the clerk informed me. Dead tired and just wanting to go to bed, I reluctantly agreed. Between the times I hung up the phone and the housekeeper arrived with my extra blankets, all the electricity went out in the room. The woman went back downstairs to 'see what she could do.¿ what she did was come back upstairs with a flashlight to see if she could simply reset the circuit breaker which controls the electricity in the room. No dice. So, with a straight face and in all seriousness she asked if she could just leave me the flashlight for the rest of the night. That, I informed her, wasn't an option. So she went back downstairs and made a few phone calls, to a manager I suppose, and called back to say they were moving me to another room that was being held for someone else and would simply put that person up in another hotel when he arrived. Fine. In my new-and-improved room the heat and electricity were working but not the TV remote control. Nor would the toilet flush. But those inconveniences I could live with, at least for the rest of the night since I was turning in anyway.” Nov 15, 2006 by
Antonia from Avenel, NJ
“Overall this is a boutique hotel in the heart of Washington D.C. offering a comfortable stay at a strategic location. The neighborhood is safe and hotel staff friendly.” Oct 27, 2006 by
Richard from Camas, WA
“The hotel was located perfectly behind Capitol Hill. The staff was friendly and the room was spacious. But the heat was still turned off, and they didn't have any small personal heaters to provide guests who might be cold. If they know that they don't turn on the building heat until November, at least be prepared to accommodate those who are freezing to death and catching colds in the hotel.” Oct 21, 2006 by
Nana from Los Anglees, CA
“Lovely old hotel, close to Capitol Building, clean and well furnished, large rooms.” Oct 20, 2006 by
Shawn from Los Angeles, CA
“The hotel is great the staff is nice and friendly, excellent location and the hotel is very clean. The location is wonderful for a great variety of restaurant and eating placing within a very short walk. I had a great stay there. Oh and by the way there is street parking available for free on the weekends.” Oct 3, 2006 by
Kenneth from Houston, TX
“For my purposes the location was excellent and the price reasonable. Older but in good repair.” Sep 29, 2006 by
Greg from Walla Walla, WA
“Staff was very friendly, convenient food outlets, room was incredible. bathroom needs a little work.” Sep 24, 2006 by
Dana from Columbus, OH
“This hotel is perfect for those traveling to the Hill for business. Close to attractions, Metro stop, and various places to meet and eat. The bathroom floor was dirty and the amount of grime on the blinds on the bathroom window was enough to turn my stomach. You could hear the plumbing from rooms nearby and above me running. Internet access is not made available to in all rooms- HIGHLY inconvenient for those there for business. I had to take my computer and all of my things down to the small, busy lobby to do some work... Hotel staff also seemed rushed. I called down to ask a question about the frequency of cabs near the hotel and the clerk at the desk had hung up the phone before she had answered my question. I also overheard a Member of Congress complaining that the staff had neglected to give him his wake up call that morning... some "system" was down. Worth the $75 I paid- all over not worth the full price others pay.” Sep 20, 2006 by
Terry from White Lake, MI
“I would let travelers know that it is an older hotel and there absolutely is NOT a view of the city! There are only 3 floors. But I did feel safe with bicycle cops & metro security avail. at night!” Sep 17, 2006 by
Aubrey from Collinsville, VA
“The hotel occupies an older structure that has been remodeled. The room included a queen size bed, a large TV (25"estimate), a full-sized couch, large desk, microwave, small refrigerator, and coffee maker. The furniture was of high quality. An anteroom provided generous space for hanging clothes and storing suitcases in addition to a small closet. The bathroom was modest in size, but well-equipped with instant hot water and plenty of force. Free newspapers (Washington Post, Financial Times) were excellent perks. There were several restaurants in the neighborhood from low to high cost. Being next to the Library of Congress and a short walk to the Capitol and the Mall made the hotel a perfect location for the businessman or tourist.” Sep 15, 2006 by
Steve from Egg Harbor Township, NJ
“I feel like I just got scammed and the Capital Hill Suites. ~$300.00 dollars. The room had 2 Q beds and sofa bed... that much was true. The room, however, was dirty, particularly the kitchen and old no frills bathroom. The heat did not work. The strange noises the refrigerator made kept us up at night. The old windows could not be securely locked (and we were on the ground floor), and the "closed" windows had big air gaps. At 6am the next morning, we awoke to bricks being cut and loaded in a pick up truck in the alley next to our room. At 9am, a hotel staff walked into our room unannounced, while were getting dressed. And to top it off, the hotel said they couldn't do anything to satisfy me (e.g. refund, etc).” Aug 29, 2006 by
Y from Evanston, IL
“Good location, close to subway station and some capitol hill, with restaurants within walking distance. but the interior was old, and we asked for double-bed room but ended up in a king-bed room (with an sofa bed).” Aug 21, 2006 by
Rose from Novi, MI
“We enjoyed the size of the room, kitchenette was perfect and changing room next to bath gave us the right amount of space.” Aug 1, 2006 by
Bill from Dwight, IL
“it's a good cheap hotel. There was lots of good security because it is right next to a federal office building and only about 2-3 blocks away from the US Capital building. Another good thing about this hotel is that it is only two blocks away from a metro station (it only took me 10-15 minutes to get to a Nationals baseball game).” Jul 30, 2006 by
Juvy from Yigo, HI
“Hotel was helpful to accommodate a third person. Neighborhood was safe and near the Metro. Free wireless access at lobby. Room was comfortable.” Jul 20, 2006 by
Brad from Boston, MA
“I would not recommend this hotel to anyone who is looking for convenience and cleanliness. ” Jul 6, 2006 by
Teresa from Princeton, NJ
“Location, location! 1 block from Pennsylvania Ave in heart of Capitol Hill. Pleasant neighborhood, walking distance from all Capitol Hill buildings, restaurants, etc. Price! Outstanding for area. Staff! Outstanding marks for genuine friendliness, warmth, and knowledge of area. Highly recommend this hotel for visitors to Capitol who want to be in Capitol Hill area.” Jun 24, 2006 by
Joel from Portland, OR
“The Capitol Hill Suites is as close to the U.S. Capitol as you can get. It's also just a block from the Metro and walking distance to the Smithsonian and other attractions in D.C. The rooms each have a microwave and refrigerator. My bed was very comfortable. The continental breakfast was quite adequate, though not exceptional. I highly recommend this hotel to people who are visiting Washington D.C. for business or pleasure. I just wish they would include free local telephone calls!” Jun 19, 2006 by
Kaylina from Texarkana, AR
“Small hotel great location in Capitol neighborhood. Modest accommodations. They need to repaint and re-carpet, but things are clean. Excellent front desk personnel. Good air-conditioning. I had a microwave oven and frig in my room. Only 1 block from a Metro stop, there are also lots of trees, town houses , and local restaurants you can walk to. Great, but modest.” Jun 19, 2006 by
Linda from Kernersville, NC
“We reserved two suites and they did not have both of them for us. So, we had to get a roll away bed for the other room. We paid for the two suites. The sleeper sofa was impossible to sleep on (bent w/terrible mattress), so I had to just sleep in the chair. They said they could not do anything about it - that we would have to get the credit from you. We will be calling to get our credit card adjusted. Otherwise, it was a great location, breakfast, service, etc. If you can let us know about the credit, that would be great.lturlingto@aol.com” Jun 16, 2006 by
Jessie from Florence, MA
“This hotel was located in a lovely residential area of Capitol Hill, only 1 block from the Metro station and a variety of shops and cafes. The Library of Congress is right across the street. The room was very large, comfortable bed, and included a refrigerator and microwave. The staff was friendly and helpful. ” Jun 12, 2006 by
Cristina from Austin, TX
“Nice employees, great location for walking to area tourist attractions, and free breakfast. The hotel was a little on the worn side, but for the price completely acceptable.” May 11, 2006 by
Ed from Coconut Creek, FL
“Hotel delivered all it promised.” May 8, 2006 by

Will from Roanoke, VA
“I highly recommend this Hotel.” Apr 25, 2006 by
Beverly from Arlington, MA
“I would definitely stay here again. Great location and I liked that my family could share a suite rather than being crunched into one room. Breakfast was a bit bleak though. The room was overcrowded and the food not all that good.” Apr 11, 2006 by
Ben from Corn, OK
“Couldn't ask for better location. The bed was excellent. Being so close to the Metro made seeing all the major attractions that much easier.” Apr 9, 2006 by
John from Andover, MA
“The hotel is quite old and with reasonable maintenance. Staffs are helpful and friendly. The location is very close to Capitol Hill.” Apr 8, 2006 by
Xinran from New York, NY
“Generally it's nice place. Good location and you can get to the subway station within 2 minutes. The staff are friendly only shortcoming is the room I stay doesn't have a cable so I need to take my laptop to the lobby to get access to the Internet.” Apr 5, 2006 by
Amy from Chickamauga, GA
“The hotel itself was good. The location to the metro, some eateries, and all the sites. I was extremely disappointed on the parking. Or I should say the lack of. I don't recall being told that there was really no where to park. You have to use valet (28.00 dollars a night) if you want your car there at the hotel. Parking on the street is almost impossible. Have to move it all the time. The air conditioning did not work. Rooms were pretty hot as the temps rose outside. I enjoyed what the room had to offer. The bed was nice, the bathroom was fine, and we had plenty of room to move around. Overall, the hotel stay was great, just bad parking.” Mar 16, 2006 by
Jorge from West Bridgewater, MA
“Not one I would recommend.” Mar 9, 2006 by
Stephanie from Rapid City, SD
“I would stay again!” Feb 8, 2006 by

“Great stay; super close to the Library of Congress, the Supreme Court and the Capitol building; the staff was friendly and helpful, there was free wireless downstairs if you had a laptop and had a great continental breakfast.” Dec 24, 2005 by
Ahn from Aberdeen, SD
“First impression is 1not bad. It has own small kitchen and dress room. The hotel was pretty good. But, there is rare convenient store or big mart store nearby.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.
