• Their knowledge about the surrounding geography was a bit thin.

• The room is elegant and beautiful.
• The room service food was inedible, tasted terrible.

“It is a beautiful hotel, but I feel like a cog in a big chain. I had hoped for a wonderful late room service meal, but instead received what seemed like thawed pre frozen soup, appetizer and dessert with poor service and no attempt to even see if my order was complete, which is was not!”

• Indoor pool and Jacuzzi, fitness center, and starbucks inside hotel.
• $30 per day parking garage and no king size beds were available.

“Hotel was similar to a Renaissance Grand Hotel in look and feel. Indoor heated pool and large Jacuzzi are always great features; as well as workout facility. Hotel also has it's own Starbucks located inside, a gift shop, and a restaurant. Tons of staff on hand to help with everything from luggage to dinner plans.”

“As a business traveler, internet access is my lifeline and I spent 4 hours on the phone and with hotel engineers trying to get it up to speed and working. This crippled my five day business trip to dc I would have paid all the money in the world for internet and heat in my room. The discount wasn't worth it.”

• The HD TV and audio system in the room were incredible.
• The only parking available is valet parking which is expensive.

• Limited cable channel selection.

“The rooms were nicely appointed with all the amenities. The staffs were super friendly. Loved the kiosk in the lobby for printing boarding passes! New elevator system was a bit odd, and the signs explaining how to use it could be clearer. Perfect location for my meetings in DC. Only real drawback is many of the restaurants and shops in the area close at night, so opportunities to explore the neighborhood were limited.”

• Phenomenal view of the monuments from our room!
• Retrieving our car from valet parking was a nightmare! Took 60-minutes!

“We loved the hotel, the location, the room (the view)! Did not expect to have the phenomenal view we had from our 14th-floor window. Looking well over the rooftops of buildings across Pennsylvania avenue, with the Washington monument appearing as if it was right outside our window! The only drawback (and it was a major one) was the valet parking situation. There's only one, very cramped driveway leading to the front doors, so you spend a fair amount of time awaiting your turn to get to the valet to unload your car. This, however, paled in comparison to our 60-minute (no joke!) Ordeal in waiting for our car to be brought to us by the severely understaffed valet parking crew (valiant though they were, it was a hotel management problem; not that of the valet parking staff). You couldn't even call ahead to get your car brought around as the valet staff was so overwhelmed they weren't even answering the phone! Awesome hotel, very, very lame valet parking for $30 a night (the only parking offered by the hotel). If you can park in a nearby self-service public garage, you're much, much better off! A sour end to what would otherwise have been an awesome stay! Wake up, Marriott Pennsylvania avenue!”

• The staff was excellent. The bed was incredibly comfortable! Room service was fast and also friendly. Location was ideal.
• There was still some construction so it was noisy in the morning.

“The rooms, location and staff at this hotel were excellent. Still being renovated so it was noisy in the morning, but other than that, it was a great place to stay and I would recommend the hotel.”

“I love to get a good night sleep when away from my 2 kids who sleep in my bed for some reason, the beds and pillows were not as comfortable as other hotels. Anyhow. Sleep fuels my engine and I didn't get a great deal of it, so that made the trip a bit longer than it should have been.”

“I would stay again at this hotel. I would park around the corner for $10.00, instead of paying $30.00. Other than that, it was a great hotel at a fantastic price.”

“I would never pay full price. I think it's not really a jw Marriott, just a Marriott in a great location. The rooms are on the small side, and there's no attention to detail. On the night I stayed there, I noticed a dirty towel on a table in the lobby. It was still there five hours later.”

• Inattentive staff. Construction work and noise everywhere. Staff neither caring nor proactive.

“The television news said there would be a taxi strike on Oct 31st. The hotel did not inform me on the evening of the 30th when I checked in, nor were they aware of the strike when I called at 6:30 am in the morning on the 31st. I was told I did not need to worry by the hotel operator. I nearly missed my train b/c it was nearly impossible to find a taxi. I suggested to the manager on duty that he send someone on the Metro with me to help me with my 3 bags -- (I couldn't manage alone) and he looked stunned at the innovative suggestion. His solution? Take a later train. Not a good one for a business traveler!”

• Couple of encounters with hotel staff was not pleasant.

“I was a little disappointed. The hotel staff was only moderately helpful. We had two occasions that were unpleasant. The first was at check in-the employee was borderline rude in asking for a credit card for "incidental charges". Next. Ii had requested a room with two double beds (vs. one king).and was told it was guaranteed. I even confirmed. A few days prior to arrival. Then was given a room with one king bed.”

• We traveled with our great uncle and JW Marriott was very accommodating to our special needs (handicap access, services i.e.).
• Everything was great.

“This hotel was one of the best hotels that our family has ever stayed. The overall experience was excellent, with special attention given our special needs (handicap access, oxygen, large room). It was very convenient to all the dc sites that we wanted to share with our great uncle. I was very satisfied.”

• Their lobby renovation according was still ongoing.

• Gorgeous view of Penn. Ave, comfy beds, plasma TV, plush robes.
• The elevators are a little tricky.

“This hotel was absolutely lovely. The room was amazing; the location was excellent, very modern decor, convenient. Staff was nice. I think it's great for business travelers, but it's great for anybody really. Safe to walk around at night. Awesome hotel.”

• The quality of the bedding and size of the TV. What I also really liked was the electronic console in the room for laptop, cell phone, MP3 player, .
• I did not like the fact that I could not get access to the concierge from outside of the hotel; I need a restaurant recommendation.

“I really like that location of the hotel and the lobby area was very clean, well decorated and open. The hotel is undergoing some renovations and the area around the elevators was unsightly. As an individual who has chemical sensitivity, I would request that the hotel look at alternative products for cleaning their carpets in the hallway of the floor my room was on; the odor was very strong and obnoxious.”

• Valet service scraped some paint off my car.

“The Marriott is located within a walk from many of the best museums and monuments in the city. You won't need your car or a cab. Don't miss breakfast in the hotel. The freshness of the food and the huge selection at the buffet are first class!”

• Bathroom was a little small. One person at a time.

“Other than the small bathroom, this place was fantastic. Would go again, but $30.00 a day to park our car was a little steep. We had an incredible view of the Washington monument and other notable buildings and had fun with the fact that George and Laura were just a couple of blocks down the street! Great time.”

• Location and the wonderful breakfast buffet.
• The new elevator system was infuriating and mandated a lot of waiting. A waste of time.

“The hotel was going through a remodel so the appearance can not be reviewed. Everything and everyone was good except for the elevators. The new system had guests waiting forever. If someone punched in an incorrect floor number, you had to endure stopping at those floors anyways. Not a great new system!”

• Totally convenient. Driving in was easy. Unloading the car from two weeks worth of travel was easy. Everything was easy.
• Bathroom was too small for two people. But everything else was so great. Who cared?

• The pool was inside but the water temperature was cold.

“I'm somewhat pleased with our overall experience staying in this hotel. When we checked in my niece was given a coloring book and crayons. The lobby is beautiful and very clean. The directions to the hotel could be more specific, it was difficult to find. I was very disappointed that the pool water was cold when I took my niece to swim. The restaurant hours are limited; we ate dinner in the lounge. This was not optimal for young children. The room was very clean, and we had the view and the refrigerator I requested. Next time I will choose a more child friendly/family oriented hotel. My experience tells me this hotel is best suited for business travelers.”

• The front desk staff was very helpful and the room was lovely.
• There was construction being done and there are no nearby coffee shops, drug stores, etc.

“The hotel was well located for touring in DC. The room was well-appointed, and the bathroom was well supplied. The morning breakfast buffet was a good deal for kids 12 and under (5$/child) The front desk was professional and responsive. The pool was a bit small, and overly chlorinated.”

“This is a lovely, large hotel with many amenities. The current construction in the lobby is extremely loud, but in our room we were largely spared from the noise.”

• The JW is always first class.
• The hotel was under renovations which I was not aware of.

“The JW is the perfect location for DC. It is near the mall and right next to the white house. It has a great sports bar with excellent food and drinks.”

• Great location, lovely room with views of the capitol and white house and with-in walking distance.
• Really the only thing was construction in lobby and main areas; I think that should have been mentioned.

“Probably the best location in DC, with-in walking distances to many things and I had really nice views from my window. I would for sure choose this hotel again and even though there was construction going on; it was done not to cause any more disturbance to the quests.”

• The bed was comfortable, bathroom nice, nice toiletries.
• No wireless internet in rooms.

“For a 4 start hotel JW Marriott was disappointing. There was a highly-touted flat-screen TV with hookup for MP3 players and your computer, but wireless internet is what you really need, and they don't have it. They did provide a cable for hookup, but you are charged $9.95 daily. For the amount the JW charges for rooms, internet should be provided free of charge, as is common in many other hotel chains. The public spaces were not inviting. When I called before checking in for directions to the hotel from the airport, whomever I spoke to rattled off a metro stop and hung up before I could ask questions. The hotel was also not particularly close to the Metro stop which would be nice. I wouldn't stay at the JW Marriott again nor would I recommend it to anyone else.”

• The renovations going on brought the star level down for me.

• Mostly excellent and very attentive staff!
• The concierge was a complete disappointment!

“Other than the concierge and the late night restaurant/bar service this hotel was absolutely excellent and delightful. We had a wonderful view of the Washington monument and could not have had a better location. The hotel was under renovation during our stay but we were not disturbed in any way by the reconstruction. I would highly recommend this hotel and hope to stay there again soon!”
