“Very retro, nice rooms with plenty of space, clean, had options we looked for.” Oct 24, 2007 by
Rosie from Maplewood, MN
“The hotel was very clean. The hotel staff was very friendly. However, when we checked in there was a private party in the lounge. It was so loud we could hardly here the person checking us in. We also couldn't sit in the lounge to get a drink, but had to have it delivered to our room if we wanted one. On the second night there was another private party in the lounge which also prevented us from using the lounge. We never even saw the lounge until the day when we had a breakfast buffet in there. Also, the breakfast buffet was disappointing. We spent $26 and got cold cereal, yogurt and coffee. However, our room was clean, bed was comfortable, bathroom spotless and staff was pleasant.” Oct 11, 2007 by

“The decor at hotel helix is unusual, modern, and fun, and the service was (for the most part) excellent. The public spaces are small, but the bar is very stylish and offers tasty specialty drinks. The hotel's location is great, within an easy walk of Dupont circle (lots of great food options and shopping) and a 10 minute walk to the McPherson square metro stop (which is, in turn, about a 10 minute train ride to museums and the mall). I'd recommend that guests avoid room service at the helix; it's incredibly expensive and the food is mediocre. There are several late nights take out restaurants within a block or two of the hotel, which I think are better bets. The service was excellent for the most part, with just a few exceptions of surliness. Overall a fantastic and memorable experience. I will definitely stay at the helix again.” Oct 1, 2007 by

“Needed light bulb at bedside lights / curtain at bed area were missing. Need a 4th towel set. No ventilation in bathroom. should have had a DVD player in sitting space for movie playing.” Sep 28, 2007 by

“Great Hotel would stay there again!” Aug 20, 2007 by
Lorraine from Crawfordsville, IN
“I was pleasantly surprised at the very high quality of this hotel. I was upgraded to a suite at no extra charge, and it was absolutely gorgeous. It had flat screen TVs in the living rooms and bedrooms, a coffeemaker, bar, and large dressing and bath room. I had a king size bed that was very comfortable, which is very important to me. The staff was very courteous and helpful. The restaurant is part of the bar/lounge, and the hamburger I had was OK, although the fries were on the droopy side. For thirteen dollars, I expect at least decent fries. On the other hand, at least I didn't have to leave the hotel to eat, which is a plus. The walk from the Metro was probably 20 minutes, which is do-able, although DC in August is (and was) miserably hot and humid. In all, I would definitely stay at the Helix again.” Apr 23, 2007 by

“I rate this Kempton hotel a 2 star. It ran out of hot water and I was supposed to receive a refund for that nights stay. ” Apr 1, 2007 by

“Obviously meant for a younger, hip crowd, the ambiance comes off more as a caricature of itself, rather than as a truly hip place to stay. Nonetheless, with a friendly, helpful staff and a central location, the helix did its job in providing this mother and her two teenagers with comfortable lodgings for a five day stay in dc.” Nov 23, 2005 by

“Very unusual, but cool style. Much attention to detail. Funky style did not mean yucky. Very clean and comfortable. Free wi-fi, also free computer, printer access if you didn't bring your own. The lounge in the lobby was always packed, even on week nights. Walkable to DuPont Circle through an area populated by embassies, Hopkins' satellite campus. Could be a little closer to Metro, the walk is a little cold in the winter.” Apr 5, 2005 by
Anne from Richmond, VA
“The rooms look interesting in the picture, but if the hotel is full, don't bother asking for extra towels, blankets etc. they don't have them, The lobby bar is cool, but prices vary on drinks, the young and hip set paid less for drinks than the rates my mother and I enjoyed on a recent visit. ”
