- Great location, friendly staff.
- Room was a little small.
“This was a wonderful hotel and at a great price. The location is ideal: close to Metro, cabs, and short distance to the airport. Staff were extremely friendly and helped answer all of our questions. I would highly recommend it for anyone spending time in Washington D.C.”

- I love the location. My husband and kids took the Subway to the zoo!
- Most hotels where we've stayed have a special program for kids. This hotel did not or perhaps we were not made aware of it.

- I loved the iced cucumber water in the lobby. Much needed after hours of sightseeing in hot sun.
- Staff were not as friendly and solicitous as I'd expected they would be. There was a charge for kids' TV channels.
“The Mayflower is a gorgeous, historic hotel with luxurious rooms and baths. However, some staff were unfriendly and did not seem to be happy to be at their jobs, but this only applied to staff on the weekends. Concierge during the week was very busy, and while helpful, was not very friendly or personable. I didn't seem at all important to him. He was in a hurry to get me out of his face. The person at the breakfast bar in the front lounge, which ran out of food, on the weekend mornings was downright surly and rude. Others barely spoke English. The bell staff were delightful: helpful and friendly and fun. Front desk staff were fine. Wish it was more kid-friendly - with a pool and free access to kid's cable channels like Disney and Discovery, etc. Was a rude shock to have to pay for them. I'll be back though. The room rate was fantastic! And the beds and bathrooms were lovely and luxurious and very clean.”

- The location was great and facilities were very clean.

“I've stayed at the Mayflower before, my last visit was very pleasant. However my recent stay was unpleasant. The front desk staff were rude unpleasant to deal with. The level of customer service I would expect from a four star hotel was not up to par, they were condescending and surprisingly not very knowledgeable about the hotel facilities or surrounding area. On several occasions the cleaning staff just walk in my room without knocking or giving me enough time to respond to one knock on the door. My last stay was a year ago and it seems the level of service has gone downhill.”

- Pure luxury, exquisite food, wonderful linens, immaculate.
- There wasn't anything I did not like.
“We took Metro in, the hotel was a block and a half, very convenient. It is the most immaculate hotel we have ever stayed in. We had a corner room, great view. The linens are to die for, robes, thick soft towels, marble bath. Two bar areas, one in lobby and then a wonderful bar off of that area that with leather seating. Our dinner was delicious, very upscale. Waiters that were very attentive. You must try the French toast, world renowned and it lived up to its reputation. All staff could not be more helpful or friendly. This one is a keeper! Highly recommend. A wonderful weekend escape.”

“We had a very pleasant stay at the Mayflower. I was a little surprised that they allowed the bugs to accumulate in the bathroom light fixtures, but it was not a real issue. I don't usually go barefoot or sit in a bathtub at a hotel, but the rooms were so immaculate, I did both. It was inconvenient to have to move to another hotel midweek, but the Mayflower was completely booked. The concierge gave us incorrect info about taxi prices to Alexandria. We should have taken Metro.”

“The hotel might be pretty and well-known, but it can't hide behind it's age. The bed was way too soft and the sheets felt like sandpaper. The hallway leading up to our room was stuffy and had a Smokey smell to it. It might do the Mayflower some good for a massive interior overhaul in the next few years.”

- One of the beds was tilted (we didn't report it, though. Our room could have been updated, but still nice.

- The staff was overly courteous and completely professional at all times.
- For the room rate, we were not afforded a very pleasant view.
“My wife and I had never been to DC, and we wanted to stay in a very nice hotel on our one night there. The Mayflower was extremely convenient, clean, and comfortable. I have never experienced a more professional staff in any of my travels. Our one gripe might have been the fact that our room overlooked the air conditioner compressors. It was the one aspect that was not perfect.”

- Very loud, could hear a lot of conversation in the hall and the doors are very loud when they close.

- The hotel staff provided five star service.
- Did not offer free Wi-Fi anywhere in the hotel.
“The hotel location cannot be beat. Having said that guests will find themselves paying a premium for tiny rooms. Also, while hotels tend to charge outrageous amounts for mediocre meals. Be prepared during the tourist season for the occasional rampaging children of tourists families.”

- No coffee maker wanted to charge to put things in refrigerator.
“My adult son & I arrived by train that afternoon and just staying one night & was flying back home next day. We only packed what we needed in a backpack. The hotel was beautiful, clean, friendly, had robes in the room which was nice, even like the shampoo, which I generally don't. I used iron & board, great. Just need a coffee maker for hot tea in evening or coffee 1st thing in the morning. Room service coffee 2-cups $7.00 + $3.00 service charge + 15% on top.”

- Walls are very thin could hear doors banging.
“Mayflower hotel is a magnificent hotel the doorman was awesome and the place was spotless. Did have a few issues with housekeeping coming very early 9:00am two days in a row. Also I left the TV on in the room and hung the do not disturb sign on the door as we left for the night. When we returned at 4am the TV was off and our door was left open. I am not sure what exactly happened. But luckily nothing was missing.”

- The entire staff was attentive, especially the concierge.
“Beautiful historic hotel, makes you feel like you stepped back in time. The entire staff was attentive, and the concierges were outstanding in helping plan tours in the DC area. The beds were fantastic, very comfortable, and the room was very quiet (couldn't hear activity in the hallway or adjacent rooms). I am a pilot for Southwest Airlines, and stay at different hotels every week. The Mayflower is by far the best hotel I have stayed at in the United States.”

- Bed was amazingly comfortable and room service and concierge were great.
- Bell hop did not offer to help us with our heavy bags coming or going.
“We loved this hotel! It was beautiful, comfortable and central to all that we wanted in DC. We got to the hotel early and were upgraded at no charge to a suite! Our only issue was with the bell hop who did not offer to help us with our heavy and clumsy bags as we tripped to the door. The concierge and all other staff were great.”

- Rumbling building noises. Pillows were uncomfortable.
“Excellent location less than a block from metro station and about 3 blocks from the white house. Heard rumbling building noises while trying to sleep. The pillows were odd. One very small, one very large and fat. The desk, bell hop and concierge service was very good. Only had dessert at one of the restaurants. Looked beautiful, but tasted below average. Booked two "identical" rooms. One was large, one was small.”

- The staff was extremely welcoming and friendly. My kids loved all the bellhops, doormen and cleaning staff.
- I think the Restaurant appeared to be upscale, but the food itself was not that good or gourmet.
“The hotel staff was the best that I have ever experienced and I travel a lot. This time my kids were with me (2& 5). The hotel staff went out of their way to make them feel special. Especially all the doormen and bellhops. My older son said that they were "the nicest people in the world."”

- Close to the White House and on the same block as a Metro station.
- The doors slammed extremely loud whenever someone entered or exited their room.
“We were very pleased with the overall quality and cleanliness of our room. It was about three blocks from the White House and a short cab ride to old Georgetown. There was also a metro station within the hotel block which made for an easier time getting around. The only down side to the hotel was the loudness of the slamming hotel room doors. Our neighbors got breakfast room service at 6AM which was followed by a jarring slam! It would be nice if there was some sort of buffer for the doors. Other than that, we enjoyed our stay and the close location to the DC sights. Would not recommend for families with small children as this is more of an executive hotel.”

- Everything beautiful, staff terrific.
- Outside noise prevented sleep.
“We loved almost everything about this hotel. It was beautiful, upscale and staff very professional and courteous. Room was a bit small but very well appointed and comfortable. However, our room was to the rear of the hotel on the 4th floor and we could not get any sleep due to the noise from the outside air handlers.”

- We are familiar with the Mayflower and it is great. It met our expectations as usual.
- We were unable to get a king bed despite our requests during booking.
“Our stay was likely our 7th or 8th at Mayflower and it is one of our favorites. We will absolutely return. My comment that Mayflower is not family friendly is not a negative. This is a luxury, adult hotel.”

- This s one of the grand hotels of DC. Beautiful public space, great service.
- I was locked out of my room and almost missed my flight. They had to get Engineers in to open the door.
“Lovely hotel. Great service. Be careful to ask for a room not facing the alley.”
