“It is a beautiful hotel with a wonderful historic feel and a great location. However, when we checked-in they had overbooked and had no double rooms (as we had asked). The first room they put us in only had a double bed and was so small you couldn't turn around in it. I paid additional money for an upgrade and the new room (suite) was absolutely beautiful, but it did cost extra. We had requested 2 rooms and one of them was lovely and I didn't upgrade that room. I would stay here again but be prepared to pay extra if they are busy for an upgrade.” Jul 11, 2008 by
Wade from Osprey, FL
“Older hotel out of touch with the contemporary traveler needing without paying for internet access. The executive classified room had small TV and no view whatsoever. The front door staff was strong. Much better values out there including internet access, parking and modern features.” Jul 10, 2008 by
Dave from Mocksville, NC
“Was strongly disappointed with no hotel parking, parking was an additional $40 in a public lot. They had no refrigerator, we requested accommodations for 2 adults, 2 children and got a single king bed. They provide a roll bed but it crowded the room and they tried to charge us $20 for it which I refused to pay. The hotel pool was two blocks away at the YMCA. They would not allow us to handle our own bags and we felt like they expected tips for everything. The food at the hotel was too expensive. But it was close to our destination.” Jul 10, 2008 by
Robin from Cheyenne, WY
“The cost of a diet coke was $9.70, there are no refills. They charge for a roll-away bed and only offered a king-sized bed in the room for me and my 11 year old son. It is not appropriate for an older child to sleep in the same bed with a parent.” Jul 10, 2008 by
Ml from Mantua, NJ
“The hotel was in an excellent location. The metro station was on the same block, and various restaurants and shopping were within walking distance. There was also a comedy club right across the street. The staff was courteous and helpful and the rooms were clean and comfortable.” Jul 10, 2008 by
Liz from Waxhaw, NC
“Had to call 5 times to get roll away beds delivered to room. Had to fight with hotel for being charged for the roll away beds.” Jul 9, 2008 by
Gina from Reading, PA
“Excellent - would recommend to anyone. We'd love to stay there again!” Jul 9, 2008 by
Matthew. from Toronto, ON CA
“I would ordinarily rate this hotel very highly. The lobby is gorgeous, the room was very comfortable. I wasn't thrilled by the staff, as pretty much all of them seemed to have language issues (I frequently had trouble understanding them). By far the worst, however, was the lack of wireless Internet in the rooms. I was shocked when they told me this. What kind of hotel in this day and age doesn't have wireless Internet? I mean even the lowest-rate Red Roof Inn has wireless. They all shrugged when I asked (in fact some employees thought there was wireless), but didn't seem to think there was anything wrong with it. Outrageous.” Jun 30, 2008 by
Phillippa from Seattle, WA
“I was given one of the less desirable small rooms on the second floor with a noisy window unit air conditioner. A family with children was in the room next door, and even over the air conditioner I could hear everything. But the bed was comfortable, the internet connection good, the bathroom beautiful (though I don't like the line of bathroom products - too much lemongrass perfume!) and the location can't be beat. Walking distance to both the red, blue and orange lines. I would definitely stay there again.” Jun 29, 2008 by
Lanney from Kingsport, TN
“Great location with easy access to the Metro. Great atmosphere and history. Lots of good cafes and bars near hotel. The price of food and drinks in the hotel were way too high.” Jun 28, 2008 by
Mark from Cincinnati, OH
“Enjoyed our stay, location was within walking distance to all downtown sites. Other than minor inconvenience with valet service, the hotel was excellent.” Jun 28, 2008 by
Heather from Flat Rock, MI
“This is a beautiful historic hotel in a great location. The rooms a big for a Downtown hotel. The only bad part was the bad service from the concierge. Everything else was wonderful.” Jun 16, 2008 by
Carolyn from Broken Arrow, OK
“The room was perfect for us. My friend and I wanted to spend the time seeing the sights of D.C and it was a good location for walking. We felt, it was in a safe area and close enough to walk to the White House. Any other place we wanted to see was just a few steps away to the Metro or a taxi and shopping was just across the street, any number of very good restaurants close by, I definitely would recommend this place to anyone without hesitation!” Jun 15, 2008 by
Elizabeth from Glen Allen, VA
“A lovely hotel.” Jun 15, 2008 by
Robert from Broken Arrow, OK
“Hotel was very nice in a good location with a lot of history.” Jun 9, 2008 by
Tara from Louisville, KY
“This was an excellent hotel with the perfect location. The Mall and Monuments were all with in a few blocks. Also easy access to the Metro. The room was missing a tub stopper and within 5 minutes they had someone upstairs to fix it. The bed was extremely comfortable and the room was kept very clean. I high recommend this hotel.” Jun 5, 2008 by
Laurence from Gilford, NH
“A beautiful, full service hotel with a wonderfully responsive and knowledgeable staff. The restaurant is first-rate and while not cheap, it is not priced outrageously for the service and food quality. The lobby and common areas are comfortable and inviting. The rooms while party had four rooms) are well laid out and quite comfortable. There was a significant difference between rooms given to our party and if your stay is lengthy or if you are traveling with excessive baggage you might ask for an appropriate/larger space. The only other downside of the rooms was the lack of an easy chair or settee for relaxing; if you are a TV viewer you should ask for a room with an LCD screen. If my experience is not a typical they will accommodate your needs as best as they can.” Jun 3, 2008 by
Sonia from Hopewell Jct., NY
“Facilities were great, linens were clean, and the service super!” Jun 3, 2008 by
Rob S. from Rehoboth, MA
“Location is great, but expect to pay top dollar if you choose valet parking. $35 a day when all the parking facilities around the area were showing $12 for a 24 hour period. Add the valet tipping and you're looking at close to $100 for 2 days. Also, no free internet and you have to pay extra to even open the refrigerator? Give me a break. I get breakfast and free internet at the Holiday Inn Express and my coffee condiments are included in the room. Not so here. Don't think I will be going back there.” Jun 2, 2008 by
Mike from New York, NY
“This is a classy and elegant hotel. I prefer a more modern look/experience but you may enjoy it if youre into a more old school atmosphere.” Jun 2, 2008 by
Melissa from Chicago, IL
“Great location. Beautiful hotel. Very helpful and friendly staff. Highly recommend!” Jun 1, 2008 by
Cynthia from Chicago, IL
“This was a wonderful hotel and at a great price. The location is ideal: close to Metro, cabs, and short distance to the airport. Staff were extremely friendly and helped answer all of our questions. I would highly recommend it for anyone spending time in Washington D.C.” Jun 1, 2008 by
Stacey from Pikesville, MD
“My husband and I really like the Mayflower. We've stayed here several times, including this past March. The location is great.” May 30, 2008 by
Grace from Atlanta, GA
“The Mayflower is a gorgeous, historic hotel with luxurious rooms and baths. However, some staff were unfriendly and did not seem to be happy to be at their jobs, but this only applied to staff on the weekends. Concierge during the week was very busy, and while helpful, was not very friendly or personable. I didn't seem at all important to him. He was in a hurry to get me out of his face. The person at the breakfast bar in the front lounge, which ran out of food, on the weekend mornings was downright surly and rude. Others barely spoke English. The bell staff were delightful: helpful and friendly and fun. Front desk staff were fine. Wish it was more kid-friendly - with a pool and free access to kid's cable channels like Disney and Discovery, etc. Was a rude shock to have to pay for them. I'll be back though. The room rate was fantastic! And the beds and bathrooms were lovely and luxurious and very clean.” May 30, 2008 by
Michael from New York, NY
“I've stayed at the Mayflower before, my last visit was very pleasant. However my recent stay was unpleasant. The front desk staff were rude unpleasant to deal with. The level of customer service I would expect from a four star hotel was not up to par, they were condescending and surprisingly not very knowledgeable about the hotel facilities or surrounding area. On several occasions the cleaning staff just walk in my room without knocking or giving me enough time to respond to one knock on the door. My last stay was a year ago and it seems the level of service has gone downhill.” May 30, 2008 by
Dan from Newton, MA
“Great hotel in the heart of DC. Rooms were small, but clean and well maintained.” May 30, 2008 by
Kate from Portland, OR
“Overall, the hotel is within walking distance to the White House. I am so please with the hotel except the staffing service. Only 2 Front Desks, They never picked up the phone for guest services.” May 23, 2008 by
Zoa A. from Chestertown, MD
“We took Metro in, the hotel was a block and a half, very convenient. It is the most immaculate hotel we have ever stayed in. We had a corner room, great view. The linens are to die for, robes, thick soft towels, marble bath. Two bar areas, one in lobby and then a wonderful bar off of that area that with leather seating. Our dinner was delicious, very upscale. Waiters that were very attentive. You must try the French toast, world renowned and it lived up to its reputation. All staff could not be more helpful or friendly. This one is a keeper! Highly recommend. A wonderful weekend escape.” May 20, 2008 by
Bob from Centereach, NY
“Excellent hotel, highly recommended, one of the best I've ever stayed in. Staff was excellent, lobby greeters, friendly valets. One grump at the concierge desk but hey, you can't have it all. Overall nice experience.” May 17, 2008 by
Margaret from Jacksonville, FL
“We had a very pleasant stay at the Mayflower. I was a little surprised that they allowed the bugs to accumulate in the bathroom light fixtures, but it was not a real issue. I don't usually go barefoot or sit in a bathtub at a hotel, but the rooms were so immaculate, I did both. It was inconvenient to have to move to another hotel midweek, but the Mayflower was completely booked. The concierge gave us incorrect info about taxi prices to Alexandria. We should have taken Metro.” May 17, 2008 by
Thao D. from Maumelle, AR
“This hotel was nice and in a good location. It was close to the metro stop. The lobby could use some sofas when you are waiting.” May 16, 2008 by
Darlene from Mansfield, MA
“The location was within walking distance to the White House and other historical sites. The food at the restaurant was good. We had lunch and breakfast and we were not disappointed. Wished we had the opportunity to experience tea time at 4:00. Maybe next trip. We are looking forward to staying here again next Spring!” May 15, 2008 by
Cheryl from Defiance, OH
“The staff was wonderful, but room sizes varied for all three rooms we rented. Also, the main restaurant was very expensive with a small menu. The hotel was beautiful and close to the metro system. I would stay there again if I could get a regular sized room, not closet sized.” May 15, 2008 by
Luann from Powhatan, VA
“Would highly recommend this hotel, would stay again if in the area. Within walking distance to the White House/The Mall/Monuments.” May 15, 2008 by
Adam from Scarborough, ME
“Great staff. Very clean convenient.” May 8, 2008 by
Peter from Alexandria, VA
“The hotel might be pretty and well-known, but it can't hide behind it's age. The bed was way too soft and the sheets felt like sandpaper. The hallway leading up to our room was stuffy and had a Smokey smell to it. It might do the Mayflower some good for a massive interior overhaul in the next few years.” May 7, 2008 by
Kiki from Barboursville, WV
“We definitely plan to stay there again. We have told our family and friends how beautiful the Mayflower was, and they have all been shocked by its price.” May 5, 2008 by
Dick from Houston, TX
“My wife and I had never been to DC, and we wanted to stay in a very nice hotel on our one night there. The Mayflower was extremely convenient, clean, and comfortable. I have never experienced a more professional staff in any of my travels. Our one gripe might have been the fact that our room overlooked the air conditioner compressors. It was the one aspect that was not perfect.” May 2, 2008 by
Andy from New York, NY
“Convenient, well maintained hotel. Aside from being very loud (the self-locking devices on the room doors are very loud, my neighbors were coming and going throughout the night). The hotel staff was very friendly, especially those working the doors. Would continue recommending this hotel.” Apr 27, 2008 by
Heather from Birmingham, AL
“The hotel location cannot be beat. Having said that guests will find themselves paying a premium for tiny rooms. Also, while hotels tend to charge outrageous amounts for mediocre meals. Be prepared during the tourist season for the occasional rampaging children of tourists families.” Apr 24, 2008 by
Haekyung from Cherry Hill, NJ
“Hotel is very comfortable and nice, but in room and floor we find some insects cached in our skin, especially my second daughter was uncomfortable in room.” Apr 23, 2008 by
Randi from Akron, OH
“My adult son & I arrived by train that afternoon and just staying one night & was flying back home next day. We only packed what we needed in a backpack. The hotel was beautiful, clean, friendly, had robes in the room which was nice, even like the shampoo, which I generally don't. I used iron & board, great. Just need a coffee maker for hot tea in evening or coffee 1st thing in the morning. Room service coffee 2-cups $7.00 + $3.00 service charge + 15% on top.” Apr 8, 2008 by
Kevin from Ocoee, FL
“Hotel was nice, Lobby area was impressive and the location in downtown was good, but the room was small. There was an in room mini bar, but the prices for anything out of it was high. No coffee maker in room.” Apr 4, 2008 by
Craig from Indianapolis, IN
“Very nice, comfortable accommodations in a convenient location.” Apr 4, 2008 by
Steven from St. Cloud, MN
“We enjoyed staying at the Mayflower. It was a beautiful hotel. Our only issues were with the noise of the heating/cooling system, the outdated TV and there was mildew in the tiles of the bathtub/shower.” Apr 2, 2008 by
Franklyn from Thornhill, ON CA
“Was disappointed. Just needed one more night.” Apr 2, 2008 by
Florence D. from Flemington, NJ
“Excellent hotel in an excellent location. The staff was very helpful and courteous.” Apr 2, 2008 by
Jacob from Houston, TX
“Mayflower hotel is a magnificent hotel the doorman was awesome and the place was spotless. Did have a few issues with housekeeping coming very early 9:00am two days in a row. Also I left the TV on in the room and hung the do not disturb sign on the door as we left for the night. When we returned at 4am the TV was off and our door was left open. I am not sure what exactly happened. But luckily nothing was missing.” Apr 2, 2008 by
Janice from Ottawa, ON CA
“The "executive" level rooms are comfortable and fine, and that's what we ended up in for our stay only because we were moved from our original "standard" room, which had a problem with hot water availability.” Apr 2, 2008 by
Martin from Ann Arbor, MI
“With views of other rooms across the alley and a bathroom that had seen better days, I was not in 4-star awe. Fortunately, the staff made up for the lack of property maintenance. Polite, attentive and helpful staff make all the difference when the room is a little rough around the edges.” Hotel Representatives:
