  • The massive rennovation.

“This hotel is under massive renovation. It is very noisy during the day. You walk through a construction zone to get to the lobby. They should shut down the hotel while this very large renovation is underway.”

  • Accomodating staff, clean for the persnickety like myself, location extraordinaire
  • No free wifi in lobby as told at desk, but they did accomodate.

“Great, walking distance to many great restaurants within a wide price range, park/green area nearby. neat shopping nearby and access to Metro within blocks. also walkable to other areas like the fabulous U Street and Bohemian Caverns and Hominy Restaurant!!”

  • The staff was extremey helpful.

“The hotel is undergoing renovations - pool, fitness center were closed and the noise during the day was significant. However, the staff went out of their way to make up for the inconvenience. We had a lovely large renovated room.”

  • The staff was friendly, the room was decent.
  • There was construction going on that started an hour earlier than they said it would.

“This hotel was fine for the price. It's about 5 blocks up the hill from the Metro station, so lugging suitcases for that long was a pain, although it was fine without them. The hotel is currently under construction, and it started almost an hour earlier
than they said it would. The bed was relatively comfortable, but the TVs could stand to be upgraded. The hotel is near many great restaurants and cafes. Overall, we would definitely stay there again!”

  • The hotel was very clean and decorated well. we were in the re-done section

“The hotel was nice and clean. After the renovations are complete it should be nicer. I was frustrated because the pool wasn't open and we had a twelve year old with us. Also, the business center wasn't open. Additionally, there were no ice machines on the floor. One night I called to request ice and it never arrived. My frustation was that I wasn't aware of these limitations until after I booked with priceline.”

  • Friendly, helpful staff, great, clean rooms, fantastic location in Dupont Circle.
  • Rooms may be a bit small for a family but fine for me.

“This hotel is very nice, with a helpful,
friendly staff, located in a great, bustling and diverse area known as Dupont Circle. It is a mix of students, professional, and tourists. The Metro is close (4-5 blocks) and there are many restaraunts, other eclectic shops, bars, and clubs. Good for single people looking to party or for families. I would highly recommend this hotel.”

“The Hilton is a mid-century modern hotel currently undergoing extensive updating. The (non-renovated) rooms are very nice and well-maintained, but the hotel layout means long walks from the elevator. The staff is curiously disengaged and careless.”

  • Bathroom had rusty, components, old caulking, mildewy.

“The hotel is undergoing renovations. I was put in the fourth floor where most of the renovations are occurring. When I checked into the first room, it was at the end of the hallway far removed from any other travelers. The room had an old odor of smoke. I asked to be changed and they immediately put me in another room. However, this room's bathroom was deplorable for even a 2.5 moderate star rating. There was mildew, old shower curtains, rusty screws on the vanity etc. The floor tile needed to be seriously updated. Well, I'm sure you get the picture. I thought that this was just the way it was for the hotel, but on the last night I went to the 6th floor to get a Coke from the vending machine. As I walked I noticed someone checking into a room and I got glimpse of their bathroom. It was an updated room, very nice tiles (i.e. very appealing).”

“Currently undergoing construction so some amenities such as pool are unavailable. Separate charge for web access, about $13.00/day. Good food but a little steep for what you get. Returned to room while housekeeping was there - she made me use my card in the door before I could come in - excellent! Accommodated non-smoking request without hesitation.”

  • Nice public areas.
  • This is an old property. Bathroom and room is tiny. They overcharge for parking and internet. No Wi-Fi. Ancient TV. Loud AC. Not an upscale property.

“This hotel has a terrific location. They are upgrading the common areas. They have tiny rooms that couldn't have been updated since the 80's. Parking is a pain to get to and they charge $23.00 per night. They have no valet parking. They have no Wi-Fi and charge $13.95 for wired internet access. Why do upscale hotels charge for this when their budget hotels offer it for free.”

“Comfy beds, beautiful lobby, bathrooms - need a little update but they were clean and the towels were plentiful. The construction project was ongoing - and somewhat inconvenient - no pool and some spooky hallway lighting. We were disappointed with having to pay for wireless internet - but all in all - rooms were cozy and clean.”

  • The room was very dirty with old food under the bed etc.

“The Hilton is undergoing renovations however the dirt in the room was not related to the renovations. We were appalled at the lack of cleanliness in the room - the dust-old food and candy on the floor. Not for people with allergies like myself.”

  • The hotel staff went out of their way to help guests.
  • Room was too hot and I could not control the thermostat.

“It was snowing/sleeting in Washington DC during my stay, which meant it was incredibly difficult to get a cab. On a good day, I would have walked to the metro, but on a bad day, it makes a long walk to the metro even longer. The doormen at the Hilton were persistent in trying to get taxis off the street and into the hotel driveway. My waits were 15 minutes. I heard that the waits at other hotels were 30 minutes. The hotel is also under renovation, which affected my colleague more than me, as my room was not located near the work area. Hopefully, the renovation will correct the problem with the room being too hot and an unresponsive thermostat.”

“The first room we got put in was filthy and then the toilet did work. So, they moved us to another room, which was much smaller than the first room we got. The walls were paper thing, it was just very old and dirty. Then at 830 in the morning they started doing construction. We were up at that point but
I couldn't even think straight to get ready. I couldn't wait to get out of there. Thank god we only stayed one night!”

  • Several items needed service and service took a very long time.

“The Washington Hilton is one of the classic older hotels in the capital. It's got a great location. The service does not match its reputation. The air conditioner was not working and the first time I called at 10:30 pm I was told they could not estimate how long it would be until someone could check on the problem, so I cancelled the request and slept in a hot room. The next day they couldn't tell me, but it took more than 30 minutes. Similar problem with the alarm clock. I couldn't change the time myself, it required another staff member to come.”

  • Great location near Dupont Circle with easy access to a lot of good local restaurants.
  • A great hotel for older and business travelers, but not the friendliest for couples with younger children.

“Enjoyable stay, recommended for couples without younger children or older travelers. Great location for business travelers as well. The lobby and public areas were great and again geared for a more sophisticated traveler. Room was adequate, would have expected it to be a bit cleaner and an air conditioner that worked better, but for the price and location, very doable and acceptable.”

  • Parking was expensive.

“Location is ok with many restaurants etc. within walking distance and a Metro station a few blocks away. Cab fare to DCA is about 22.00 and if I stay there again I won't rent a car as off-street parking is high. Our room was nice although small. The hotel restaurant and room service are expensive but there are a lot of eating options close by. Nice pool & tennis courts and very clean, great staff.”

  • The actual setting was in a very wonderful location. Close to all activities and Metro services.
  • It was very hard for them to setup our room correctly i.e.: # of glasses, amount of coffee and so on.

  • The pool area was nice, friendly doorman.
  • The bathroom was run down and dirty. Not what I would expect from a Hilton. Walls were thin and noisy.

“I was very disappointed with my stay at this Hilton location. The bathroom was dirty and tiles were cracked. Floor was old and had caked on dirt. Windows were dirty and curtains were shabby. Room was a little dusty also. I have never had a problem with my stays, but this was a disappointing experience.”

  • The view of the room I received was outstanding! The Kobe Burger was delicious and the room was very nice.

“Upon arriving, the hotel desk clerk was rude, and proceeded to click around her computer for several minutes, possibly my room assignment. There was no valet parking attendant. There was no bell-staff to help with bags, yet there was also not a long wait to check in. I was given the sitting room half of a suite which had no bed, no pillows, no iron or other amenities, and was very uncomfortable. The pop machines, on all of the first four floors, were broken without signs. The parking garage is like a maze and this hotel really needs to add valet (or have them available instead of on break all the time). When I finally (after about an hour and three calls to the desk), got a roll away bed. There were no pillows, and I had to request those again as well, which took another 30 minutes. The service is terrible and this hotel is rude.”

  • Bad service, not very clean, needs urgent renovations.

“A once grand hotel gone to motel. Rooms are small and not very clean, the front desk service was tired and unfriendly. Despite early phone call to ensure a king size bed for us we got double size which made sleeping uncomfortable for a couple. There are no frills at all, everything in charged to the last penny. Parking is as expensive as in midtown Manhattan. All in all, bad hotel in a good location. And don't look under the beds!”

“The staff here was extremely condescending and lacked poise and professionalism for the price. At one point we became unable to enter our room because our 2 year old chewed on the room key. They left us in the lobby with a sick and tired kid for over an hour while we begged to be let into our room where all of our I.D. was located. We were disgusted and the treatment was terrible, border line abusive. The bar and restaurant staff were a joke. It was like eating at wolfgang pucks for 100 dollar. The whole vibe left us feeling underserved. Get it together Hilton.”

  • They charge extra for everything and can be very noisy.

“The location is great, in general good service and you probably find all what you could need. The problem is that they charge extra for everything, the internet service is very poor, and you can get one room with a lateral door that make it really noisy.”
