“Nice business hotel in Foggy Bottom, in the same neighborhood as the Ritz, Marriott, Hyatt etc. Good restaurants nearby. Room was large and comfortable. Could use a light refresh of paint and carpet but the room was still updated, comfortable and clean. Meets the 4 star standard easily. Pool was overrun by kids, so no chance to do laps. Workout facility had modern equipment and was a good size for a hotel. Room service was ridiculously overpriced (high food prices, plus tons of extra fees like tax (10%) + service fee (18%) + delivery charge ($3.50 if I recall correctly). I got take-out instead.”

“Clean, nice rooms with large bathroom, which included a tub and a shower. Hotel accommodated an early check-in, a king sized bed, and the entire hotel is non-smoking, which is a huge plus. Great stay overall!”

“This isn't a typical Westin. It is far below Westin standard. The AC had a variety of problems and one main thing being the air filer was filthy. The pool was close for most of my visit and wasn't that great anyway. The gym was not clean. Gyms must be kept clean because of bacterial diseases etc. Sweat marks all over mirrors, floors and equipment was dirty. This was a very strange Westin compared to all the others I have stayed in.”

  • Mini bar charges you if you lift something up for more than 30 seconds so there is no where to store your own beverages.

“This hotel was in an excellent location. It was beautifully decorated and made you feel calm and relaxed. The rooms were spacious and meticulously maintained. The front desk staff was very helpful. Our only complaint was the lack of a mini refrigerator in our room that we could use for our own beverages. Other than that, we absolutely loved it!”

  • Internet was seldom working, TV reception bad.

“Location-wise, this hotel is hard to beat -- near Georgetown's best, a short walk from Metro. It could be a 4-Star place in that it is so clean and has many upscale amenities, but it has a few problems. First, the staff as a rule is unfriendly and even arrogant and does little to be accommodating. Their air is as if they are doing you a favor by serving your needs. Second, the Internet service during our stay was erratic and unreliable -- dreadful for any hotel today. Third, television reception and channel options are weak. It is an extremely nice 3-star hotel as is; to meet 4-star standards, improvements need to be made, particularly in terms of the staff.”

  • It was swanky! The lobby was beautiful and smelled great.
  • The pool deck was not big enough for tanning. And too many kids!

  • The bed and bathroom were extra nice.
  • The bellhops were very friendly, the front desk personnel were cold. A hotel that caters to business should have a reclining chair in the room.

“The hotel lobby was being remodeled. Work was completed while we were there. With the exception of the front desk staff the personnel were very friendly. The bed and bathroom were very nice. The restaurant was expensive. Eat somewhere else. Parking was very expensive. I would not stay at this hotel. It was not worth the price.”

  • Charged me $16.88 for jelly beans and peanuts which we did not eat and they did not remove the charge from the bill as they said they would.

“Great physical hotel. However, upset because they charged us $16.88 for peanuts and jelly beans in our room which we did not eat. They said it was removed from our bill, but they did not as we had the $16.88 charge on our credit card three days later. Very poor customer relations at this hotel.”

  • The hotel was very expensive, there were not enough comp. services, and the staff was not as knowledgeable about the area as we thought they should.

  • Remote control for TV's has a delay making you concentrate too hard when flipping channels.

“Staff was very friendly. Hotel was clean and modern, bar was clean, but because it was dead, I opted not to sit and watch a game. Went to room instead. WiFi in rooms should be a gold standard for nicer hotels instead of something only the cruddy Super 8's of the world offer. Loved the hotel though. Enough to make it my hotel of choice going forward.”

  • Nickel and dimming, no TV without paying! $5 bottle water.

“The Westin Grand is a gorgeous hotel, 10min north of Foggy bottom metro. The Westin heavenly bed, plush bathrobe and decor are 4-star. But be ready to spend an extra $20, the only way to get water is $5 at the cafe or God knows what price through the mini-bar. There is no vending machine or drinking fountain that sells it cheaper. You also won't be able to watch anything on the beautiful flat screen TV without paying. Movie prices are above what you would pay in the theatre ($11-13 vs. $10) and access to regular TV/Cable shows are for a fee ($5). A little annoying to be in the lap of luxury and then charged for the equivalent of air, but if you are on business or a romantic get away and can either entertain yourself or afford to splurge, it is a great hotel.”

  • Location, clean, pretty views, nice bathroom, quiet, excellent pillows and clean bedding topper in white.
  • No complaints.

“I liked the white bedding because I could tell that the topper had not been used by the previous guests. The room was quiet with excellent views out of 4 large full length windows. The menu was overpriced so we ordered domino's delivery. The location was excellent, close to Georgetown without getting into traffic. The staff was friendly, professional but not snooty.”

  • I had a balcony overlooking the courtyard which I loved.
  • I wish the room had two queen beds versus two double beds.

“This hotel was beautifully decorated with modern furnishings. The bathroom was large, with both a tub and shower. The beds were comfortable and the balcony, with two chairs, was wonderful for enjoying morning coffee or an evening cocktail. Starbucks in the room was an added treat. The location is convenient to the Foggy Bottom, Georgetown, and Dupont Circle (a 15 min. walk).”

  • $20 a day to park with no in and out and wasn't mentioned while check in, economy hotels have free parking.

“The location is great! The room was beautiful! This hotel was very nice, but being a first timer in a luxury hotel the two things that annoyed/disappointed me were. The parking that was $20 a day. I think that if you are staying in a luxury hotel you shouldn't have to pay to park, and the snacks/minifridge that supposedly if you even touch them you get charged, either that has changed or they just forgot to plug our little tray in. Anyway, it would have been nice if we could have used the fridge, but there wasn't any extra space. We really enjoyed our stay at the Westin, but I guess there are some nice things about economy hotels as well.”

“The location of this hotel is fantastic. The Housekeeping department needs to be completely replaced. The room was shabbily cleaned when we arrived. They ignored the "Do not disturb" sign on our door and entered when we weren't there. At that time, they made the bed and moved stuff around but didn't even clean (so we aren't sure why they busted in anyway). Then, I inadvertently left my camera in the room. It had to be in there because my husband and I removed it from my bag after our first day there. Housekeeping claims not to have seen it and the director of housekeeping has yet to call me back. I am never staying here again.”

  • The hotel doesn't have many double rooms.

“This is a nice, clean hotel within walking distance of the Foggy-Bottom/GWU Metro Station, DuPont Circle, and Georgetown. The hotel has valet and self-parking available for an area-typical fee. Although the hotel does not have many double bed rooms, the facilities have all undergone a recent facelift. The staff was very helpful.”
