- Great location, friendly staff, clean.
- I would not consider this a 4 star hotel. The rooms, particularly the bathroom, and hallways were outdated. Also, parking was exceptionally expensive.
“This is a very good, clean, 3 star hotels with an above average location near the heart of Georgetown. Downsides are expensive parking (~$38/night much more than even NYC) and outdated bathrooms and hotel rooms.”

- Clean, well-located, very friendly staff, beautiful.
- Nothing well, the breakfast buffet was pretty expensive.
“Located close to the metro, downtown, GWU Medical Center, the Melrose was a perfect compromise for me as a place to stay between a conference in the Woodley Park area and sightseeing with my 10-year-old. The hotel is beautiful, clean, well-appointed, and the staff is wonderful. I highly recommend the Melrose to anyone, and look forward to staying there again the next time I am in DC.”

- We were upgraded to a suite without asking!
- The bed was fine, but not as comfortable as I had expected for a 4-star hotel. The 2 pillows provided on the king size bed were also lumpy.
“The Melrose Hotel was in a good location- central to most of Washington DC's tourist attractions. It was a nice walk to Georgetown and Dupont Circle, and a short walk to the metro stop. We were upgraded to a suite, which was spacious and comfortable. The living room contained a TV, couch, two chairs, and an eating area, complete with wine glasses and a corkscrew. (A TV was also in the bedroom.) The bathroom was clean with a large sink and mirror, and a nice array of bath products were provided (the brand was Rusk, which had a wonderful fragrance but was made in China). The one meal eaten at the restaurant was breakfast, which was good but expensive for a basic buffet. Staffs were reserved but very accommodating.”

- The cleanliness and the location; short walk to Georgetown!
- The hotel is awesome; nothing negative. The valet parking is ridiculous 38.00!
“When you walk through the door, the word "elegant" comes to mind. The gentleman at the front desk was extremely nice and very accommodating, upgraded me to a beautiful suite as a "little something for my birthday" and I didn't ask; he just did it as a nice gesture! Then, you meet the valet guy. But, after that, we went to our suite and were just delighted. A great bedroom, an office, and a living area with a nice dining room table. Very clean, very attractive. I would say the only thing they might want to upgrade would be the pillows, hard and flat. We did not use the restaurant or room service, so I can not comment on that. But, the short walk to Georgetown was absolutely a huge plus; great location! Overall, wonderful experience.”

- My room was filthy. There was urine on the toilet seat, the carpets were stained.
“This is definitely not a 4 star hotel. The room was filthy: there was urine on the toilet seat, the carpets were stained, the telephones were visibly dirty, and the walls were full of scuff marks. When I complained about the bathroom, housekeeping sent someone to my room to "clean up." when I checked later, I saw that they had only placed a bath mat on the floor and had sprayed disinfectant in the air the urine was still on the toilet seat.”

- Beautiful hotel rooms, great views and perfect location - 1 block from Georgetown.
- Cheap thin towels, old TV.
“While it was a very nice hotel, it definitely seemed more like a three star than a four-star. The towels were so thin they were almost transparent - definitely not resort-quality. We still very much liked our stay at this hotel though. Staff was very polite. Received USA Today outside out door in the morning.”

- Stuck with noisy first floor smoking room.
“Checked in late and was stuck with a first floor room right next to a major traffic road. It was entirely too noisy to sleep until very late at night. The room was smoking and they did not have a non-smoking room for me. As a non-smoker, I've stayed in smoking rooms before without much bother but it was way too smoky in the room for me. It was a weekend night and my neighbors were all clearly young kids partying in the hotel. Would never return.”

“I'm completely neutral about this Hotel. The mattresses felt old with no support. The ice machine was broken. The gym had only bicycle and walking, no weights, and in a very small room. We never tried the restaurants but looked nice, fancy and $$$. The location was very good, near Georgetown (CVS, banks and "La Madeleine" restaurant) and Metro. Anyway, next time we would reserve near The Capitol or White House.”

“This hotel does not seem like a 4 star to me. The only reason I can think that it is would be because of its location next to downtown, yet not right in the middle of downtown. But the hotel itself, the commodities, the look of the room inside (outdated) suggest to me more like a 2.5 star. The ice maker never worked, although someone would bring some to our room whenever we called. There was a charge for internet (it has to be a must these days for a hotel to have free wireless, especially if it is a 4 star). There were some issues with getting our check out time correct. However, the staff was very friendly. Overall, we enjoyed our experience.”

- Extra charges for everything, even wireless internet.
“The room and the location were great, but there were some negatives. We had to block traffic and wait a long time to get our car valet parked to enter the hotel (Parking was very expensive, but I'd expect that in a major city). We had to pay for wireless internet, and then would have had to pay another fee for another computer, but we decided to use just one. We were in a big hurry in the morning, and were glad to see a nice continental breakfast, so we grabbed some fruit, coffee and muffins on the run, only to find out that we'd just purchased two $18 buffet breakfasts. Might stay here again, but I'd be careful about extra charges.”

- 2 Bathrobes provided without asking.
- The staff needs to be told to do something, they never do it themselves.
“When walking into the hotel you feel like you might be at a 4 star hotel. But when you check-in make sure they don't stick you in the handicap room like they did with me. There is no closet, a very awkward room, and the wall paper is peeling. Also, after ordering room service I left the tray outside my room and it stayed there for 2 days! You don't feel taken care of at the Melrose and as for being labeled 4 stars. The best I'd give this one is 2 4/5ths. There is just no "class" in the Melrose staff.”

The bathroom was recently renovated and provided us with high-end products. We couldn't have had a better location between Georgetown and the White House to enjoy DC on the 4th of July!”

“Wireless internet service was a problem; I had to pay to call for troubleshooting help when the internet bridge device loaned to me by the hotel did not work. First device given was inoperable, second worked, eventually, after ISP determined field problem source. Fitting on sink was loose.”

- Staff was very friendly. Rooms are spacious and clean.
- The only thing missing was a breakfast buffet.

- Excellent location.
- The air conditioning did not work and we were on the 8th floor.
“Great location and our room were lovely at first sight. However, no air-conditioning on the 8th floor was uncomfortable. Guest services gave us complimentary breakfast buffets. Downside to the weekend was the large scratches on the front bumper of my car and no mention from the valet parking attendant of the damage that obviously occurred while valet parking was responsible for my vehicle!”

- Great central location.
- Terrible service and no air conditioning!
“This hotel is very convenient to the dc tourist sites, and its close the metro. The location is great. However, the service/ambiance leaves much to be desired (bad food, rooms badly maintained, valet service dysfunctional at best). parking is not free, despite what some websites claim. I paid $34 for valet service, and this does not include a tip. Despite all this, the hotel is still a reasonable value. But you should know what you're getting. Good location and a functional room.”

- It had some classic charm.
- The fitness center had no free weights or weight training machines.

- The rooms are nicely appointed and decorated. Very pleasant.
- Every time we have stayed here we have had trouble getting on the Internet.
“Understated in it's exterior appearance, the Melrose Hotel situated mid-way between Georgetown University and GW University has a very sophisticated feel in each of the well decorated guest rooms. Each bathroom features marble tiled showers and a separate sink area with granite counters. The hotel restaurant is perfect for breakfast, featuring fresh squeezed orange juice, and a choice of the buffet or menu items. Be careful about using the valet service. It is not hard to pay twice as much for parking a car/day then it cost to rent a car. Easy access to M Street shopping and restaurants makes this a good choice for vacationers and business people alike.”

- The room was very clean.
- The housekeeping knocks on the door too early.
“Excellent location, great room (View was poor, but that didn't matter to me). Lobby a little bit dirty, staff very friendly. Overall I would stay there again.”

- Very spacious rooms. Luxury toiletries. Nice robes.
- There was no parking at all. Had to use valet.
“Enjoyed my stay. Parking was the only disappointment. We had to rely on the valet service which was not as attentive as I expected.”

- Checking out was fine.
- Staff quality of room, food, amenities.
“They should pay me back at least half my money. They gave us bad directions 3 times, the food is better, much better at Denny¿s, there were no towels in the room, and light bulbs were out. Yuck.”
