- There were many things to recommend this hotel however, the room appointments, the bed and linens (important for tired guests) were exceptional.
- The valet parking was a bit unprofessional for a 4 star hotel.
“This is a great location for visitors and business travelers to Washington, DC. Georgetown, the metro, and major sites on the mall are all within walking distance. While the parking valets left a bit to be desired on arrival, once you enter the hotel, the experience improves. This is a small hotel, but the decor is lovely and well maintained. The front desk staff members were friendly and helpful. The lovely decor extends to the halls and the rooms. The bedding is great!”

“It is a lovely hotel in a prime location. Restaurants did not offer a great variety and the prices were rather high. Not a very family friendly hotel, but very nice. I would stay at this hotel again.”

- Employees were not very friendly, neither was the valet.
“I'm used to friendly desk staff in a hotel of this caliber. DC is huge and I tried to get directions from several persons with no results. Room was nice but had an odor to it. All else went ok.”

- The rooms were large and clean, and beds were comfortable.
- Needed refrigerator. Told by front desk to empty mini bar and use it and then the lady that checks the mini bar gave us a hard time about it.
“Hotel was nicely decorated, clean and comfortable. You pay for everything else from local phone calls(1.00 ea) to valet parking only (38.00) daily. Not much else but a room and very expensive restaurant. Ice machine on floor never worked during our stay. Staff entered hotel room when our teenage daughter was there by herself (they let themselves in) and they changed the TV channel that she was watching to see something on another station. Staff was male. Hotel is close to Metro and Georgetown.”

- It was my wedding night. The room service staff was most helpful in setting up my room.
- It took forever to check out at the front desk at 5 AM. We had a plane to catch.

- Several ice machines still broken, was given smoking room first night, but given free breakfast to make up for it.
“Hotel staff exceptionally friendly and professional. Bathrooms outdated, but good water pressure and fast hot water. Windows will open. Individual room thermostats. Charged $10 for wireless connection/day. Close to Georgetown. Restaurants expensive in Hotel! Mini Market next door. Parking outrageous. Close to Metro. On bus line. Several ice machines out of order. Overpriced for Hotel quality, probably not for DC.”

- It's an old hotel and can use a little sprucing up rugs, wallpaper.

- Clean, uncluttered access to rooms from entry.
- Parking non-existent. Valet service sub-standard.
“Close proximity to Georgetown while not immersed in Georgetown 'foot-traffic' is a big plus. You can take or leave it with little effort. Bar and Dining area are offset from entry-way, so the path to the rooms is unencumbered. Rooms are clean and well laid out with functional areas (bed, TV, office and clothing closet) properly separated. Bathroom was a positive surprise, with everything spotless and lots of room.”

- The room was very spacious, the bed was very comfortable, and the furniture was very nice.
- They charge for wireless internet, the bathroom was very simple, basic cable, and the air conditioner was broken.
“Alright hotel, definitely not a 4 star hotel though. The furniture, appliances, and the amount of space was very nice. However, the really nice plasma screen TV could not be enjoyed because they only offered basic (I mean basic) cable. The air conditioner did not work. Luckily, the room temperature didnt go above 75 with the windows closed. The bathroom was small and did not offer a separate bath/shower in comparison to the Westin Grand. I almost forgot, the biggest disappointment was that they charge $10.00/day to utilize their wireless internet, who does that these days? On the other hand, the staff was very courteous and accommodating. The location was very nice too.”

“Room quality was poor. Some of the furniture was either wobbly, broken, or just in bad shape. The location of the hotel did not seem that great either. There were not a whole lot of dining choices close to the hotel. The plus of the hotel is that there was a metro station just a block away so that you get get around town pretty well.”

- The hotel staff in lobby area was great. Enjoyed the attentive welcome and exit. Was reimbursed for horrible food.
- The food in most the menu was terrible. I tried ordering different things and it was all disgusting. Stale bread.
“When I arrived into hotel I had a warm friendly welcome. I was exhausted from the commute and felt relieved after checking in. Gym could be better and the food is terrible. I get in late and get hungry. Not many places were open around hotel for food. I ordered room service and was VERY disappointed. I asked what was best on late night menu and was recommended a Turkey Club. It was the worst club ever, stale bread. I was shocked on how someone could go wrong with a club. Overall, I would not stay there again, unless I had to. There are a lot of good places to eat a few blocks from hotel. Church next door. That's also good. lol”

- The room we were in was old, and bathroom ceiling was unpainted drywall with mud!
“The hotel was nice at first appearance. The staff was also extremely helpful and friendly. However for a 4-star hotel I was a little disappointed with the condition of the hotel. The room was nice but the bathroom dated and the ceiling was under repair. This room should have not been open for reservation until these repairs were completed. We enjoyed the Melrose but would have found our stay even more enjoyable if the room were complete.”

- Room we got was a decent size. Not typical room, but with some added space and small couch and desk/chair.
- It could have been a little bit nicer to be considered a 4 star. I think it was closer to 3.5.

- The king-size bed was one of the comfiest I've ever slept in. including my bed at home! I'll definitely be back!
- The hotel restaurant was very expensive for breakfast. However, I didn't eat any other meal there.
“The Melrose is in the perfect location for club-hopping and shopping in Georgetown or sightseeing around DC. The Foggy Bottom metro station is an easy walk from the hotel. The lobby and rooms were very clean and well-kept. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The beds were wonderful--even better than sleeping at home! The restaurant's a la carte breakfast was good, but pricey. We were overall very impressed!”

- Bathroom lighting very poor, lamp was defective, TV was poor.
“This was probably in past years once a luxury hotel. It has seen better days. The room though clean and well equipped seemed a bit worn---the wallpaper seemed old; the bathroom lighting was awful, and the television set was poor. Nevertheless, the staff was courteous and the location is quite excellent. There's a Trader's Joe nearby and the Metro station is close by.”

“I valet parked my car. I did not realize until I left the hotel and had arrived home that damage had occurred to my SUV. It was not obvious as the damage is above the rear window on a piece of trim that encloses a brake light. I am very disappointed that no one from the hotel disclosed the damage to me. The parking was $38.”

- I would not consider this a 4 star hotel. The rooms, particularly the bathroom, and hallways were outdated. Also, parking was exceptionally expensive.
“This is a very good, clean, 3 star hotels with an above average location near the heart of Georgetown. Downsides are expensive parking (~$38/night much more than even NYC) and outdated bathrooms and hotel rooms.”

- Clean, well-located, very friendly staff, beautiful.
- Nothing well, the breakfast buffet was pretty expensive.
“Located close to the metro, downtown, GWU Medical Center, the Melrose was a perfect compromise for me as a place to stay between a conference in the Woodley Park area and sightseeing with my 10-year-old. The hotel is beautiful, clean, well-appointed, and the staff is wonderful. I highly recommend the Melrose to anyone, and look forward to staying there again the next time I am in DC.”

- We were upgraded to a suite without asking!
- The bed was fine, but not as comfortable as I had expected for a 4-star hotel. The 2 pillows provided on the king size bed were also lumpy.
“The Melrose Hotel was in a good location- central to most of Washington DC's tourist attractions. It was a nice walk to Georgetown and Dupont Circle, and a short walk to the metro stop. We were upgraded to a suite, which was spacious and comfortable. The living room contained a TV, couch, two chairs, and an eating area, complete with wine glasses and a corkscrew. (A TV was also in the bedroom.) The bathroom was clean with a large sink and mirror, and a nice array of bath products were provided (the brand was Rusk, which had a wonderful fragrance but was made in China). The one meal eaten at the restaurant was breakfast, which was good but expensive for a basic buffet. Staffs were reserved but very accommodating.”

- The cleanliness and the location; short walk to Georgetown!
- The hotel is awesome; nothing negative. The valet parking is ridiculous 38.00!
“When you walk through the door, the word "elegant" comes to mind. The gentleman at the front desk was extremely nice and very accommodating, upgraded me to a beautiful suite as a "little something for my birthday" and I didn't ask; he just did it as a nice gesture! Then, you meet the valet guy. But, after that, we went to our suite and were just delighted. A great bedroom, an office, and a living area with a nice dining room table. Very clean, very attractive. I would say the only thing they might want to upgrade would be the pillows, hard and flat. We did not use the restaurant or room service, so I can not comment on that. But, the short walk to Georgetown was absolutely a huge plus; great location! Overall, wonderful experience.”

- Front desk staff was friendly.
- My room was filthy. There was urine on the toilet seat, the carpets were stained.
“This is definitely not a 4 star hotel. The room was filthy: there was urine on the toilet seat, the carpets were stained, the telephones were visibly dirty, and the walls were full of scuff marks. When I complained about the bathroom, housekeeping sent someone to my room to "clean up." when I checked later, I saw that they had only placed a bath mat on the floor and had sprayed disinfectant in the air the urine was still on the toilet seat.”
