“The hotel has a great lobby and friendly doorman and counter staff. The concierge was unfriendly and the restaurant staff was lacking some spirit. The multiple restaurants/pubs was very appealing. The gym was smaller but had a great variety of equipment as well as a sauna that is free to use. Overall it was a good stay.”

- Walking uphill to get back to the hotel after visiting neighboring restaurants.
“This was my second visit to this hotel. Overall, the experience was much improved: nicer staff, excellent room environment, better food service ( a little pricey). It is conveniently located next to an entrance to the Subway which allowed for quick transportation to downtown tourist sites.”

- Extremely convenient to the Red Line Metro Station. Right next door!
- The bathrooms were too small, the front desk staff doesn't know anything.
“Overall, this is a great hotel to stay while in the DC area. It is extremely convenient, being right next to the Red Line Metro Station at Woodley Park/Zoo. It is basically touching the station. The rooms are nice and very clean. The hotel has great amenities. A very good find. The only two complaints: the front desk staff is not very helpful and they don't know how to use the computer systems, the bathrooms in the guest rooms are way too tiny.”

- Hotel directory not up-to-date. Room not fully prepared each day.
“Parking should have been free. There was no fridge in my room. I wish the people at the hotel were a bit more friendly and helpful. Each time I called the front desk, I was transferred to another person almost immediately without finishing my sentence. However, this would be a convenient hotel to stay for visiting Washington. Assessable to Downtown in 15 minutes on subway.”

- Due to the size of the hotel, rooms can feel isolated from the common areas.

The staff overall was very professional and courteous and on-site restaurants superb. I would definitely recommend this hotel to any business traveler and family with older children that want a nice hotel stay at an affordable price.”

- The staff was willing to go the extra mile to ensure my daughter and I were happy.
- Within the first 15 minutes of our arrival four different people handled our luggage, making it difficult to determine who if any to tip.

- 68 degrees had AC, 70 degrees had heat in the summer.
“Great location in North West area. Safe and very close to Metro stop. Concierge very helpful. Hotel very clean and quiet even though very large. Only complaints were that air conditioning on hallways extremely cold which seemed wasteful, probably around 60F. Also, the shower head was very low for the average height person. Also, the room air conditioner when set to 70F turned to heat even though it was summer and at 68F seemed excessively cold. There was no in between-either very cold or heat. We would stay here again since these were very minor problems.”

- Smallish rooms. Pricey parking.
“The stay got off to a rough start. The room I was given was already occupied by someone else. Thankfully, that person was not in the room at the time- just his belongings. A bit scary. The person at the front desk responded quickly and professionally. She apologized, assured me this would not happen again, and upgraded our room without hesitation. Overall, very friendly staff from valet to security and everyone in between.”

- I liked the historic atmosphere of the old wing I was put in.
- Historic room meant outdated quarters.
“I loved the atmosphere, however the room they gave me was in the outdated area of the motel. Most would call it historic. However it was about as quaint as a restroom stall with a mattress and TV in it. Pool had a lifeguard, so that was a plus. So, unless you pay the full fare you can probably expect minimal accommodations.”

- The staff was incredibly helpful & public spaces were expansive.
- They charge an extra $28 per day to park a car!

I, however, did not appreciate finding a couple used toothpicks on the floor of our room or the fact that we had to pay $28 to park our car when the garage had ample space and we were only actually at the hotel for 12 hours.”

- The outside building, grounds is beautiful and historic looking.
- The rooms in the old section were small and not very updated.

The garage for self-parking is quite a distance from the check-in desk, so if you're traveling with your family, drop them and your luggage off in front first! “This is a big busy hotel. Scores of people constantly coming and going. We liked the location, near the zoo, but not necessarily for the main tourist spots. The staff was friendly, and the room was more than adequate. I was taken aback, however at the $10 charge for high speed internet. There are lesser hotel/motels that routinely offer this service for free. On balance, our stay was an excellent experience at a reasonable price.”

- Good location, easy access to metro. Lots of choices for on-site dining.
- Too big and impersonal. Poor customer service. Amenities like room services and on site restaurants were too expensive.
“First impression of Marriott Wardman Park is that its huge. Poor signage for such a large site, hard to find your way around. Practically hidden and very expensive parking unless you wanted to fork over even more cash for valet (I didn't). Internet connection in room broken, with no mention at check-in was a big mistake. Very expensive restaurants, but the signature bar was very hip. Internet pictures were misleading with pictures only of the historic part of the hotel, no pictures of the modern Monstrosity where most of the rooms were located. Recommendations: great for kids for on site services and location near National Zoo, but leave the car parked somewhere else, hide your wallet and take the metro to this location.”

- Huge! Easy to get lost when looking for room. Parking $30+ per day. Yikes!

- I didn't like that internet was not free.
“My time spent in the hotel was limited. I was in town for only one night. The valet was available to me and my companions even at 4am. We were checked in immediately and my car parked very quickly. Valet parking comes at a hefty price, but for this trip, it was worth it. The room was spacious and suited our needs. The beds comfortable, though I forgot how small double beds were compared to queen. It would have been nice to have a mini-fridge. Overall, I would stay again.”

“The hotel was beautiful and exceptionally clean. I think the views from anywhere in the hotel would be beautiful, our room was wonderful. 1/2 block access to the subway and immediate cab availability made travel very easy. The staff were all friendly and everyone had a smile to offer. That makes all the difference in the world. Thanks.”

- Steps away from metro. Beautiful grounds.
- Thin walls in my part of the hotel could hear people coming in the wee hours.
“I work in DC but live 40 miles away. I stayed at the Marriott Ward man when I needed to work so late I couldn't get home. It's convenience to the metro was essential so I could leave my car at work and walk from metro by myself that late. My room was comfortable with good reading lights and a great view in the AM. My only complaint was getting woken up by people coming in late the walls seem very thin. I've visited friends and relatives staying here, and we've enjoyed running in Rock Creek Park and walking down Conn. Ave to restaurants and galleries. I've seen one of the luxury suites in the old part of the hotel, and it was really impressive. The grounds are beautiful and many rooms have great views of the park and the city.”

- I liked the upscale, clean, helpfulness of staff, comfortable beds and safety and chic area and the zoo being close and restaurants,.
- No indoor pool, rooms way too small; need a refrigerator, parking stinks, not family friendly, no TV channels, no free WiFi.
“This hotel is great for the business or couple traveling. It could be more family friendly by making the rooms with a refrigerator, or having more kid channels on the TV. Plus no pool indoors hurts. The only bonus is the zoo being close for families. Great bed, helpful staff at desk, bar, cleaning, metro close, great neighborhood for food and drinking, metro outside hotel.”

- It was historic and beautiful, the staff was very accommodating.
- Because the tower we were in was historic so there were some updates the room would benefit from.
“The hotel had great customer service and was landscaped beautifully. The room was spacious and comfortable. There is an historic tower and a newer tower, we were in the historic tower and it was great ambience, but there were some superficial things that could have been done to the room, like trim that the paint was chipping off--but overall it was gorgeous and we were excited to be in the historic part.”

“I could hear the man next door loud from the door in between rooms. At 2:30 a.m., loudspeaker that they found the source of the problem and everyone return to their rooms!! This woke me from a deep sleep! So, "I" had no idea, no alarm went off and I was mad! Then for the next 40 or so minutes, unable to fall back asleep as I heard every man shutting toilets and doors!”

- The location is ideal, the grounds beautiful, reminiscent of an old estate.
- The room was a little small and a third bed was propped against the window. Not very attractive.
“Really found the hotel ideal. it was directly across from the DC metro in a central location. My room was a little small but generally nice looking. The general atmosphere of the hotel is luxurious and slightly grand. It was great for a short getaway.”
