“I really enjoyed the plasma TV set in the room, and enjoyed the fact that if I needed a kitchen to prepare anything that one was included in my room. Bathroom was a little small but overall I would stay here again.” Oct 26, 2007 by
Marcia from Zeeland, MI
“We had a family group of 20 people from all over the country we were unable to use any of the rooms to just "visit" due to some remodeling issues we were greatly disappointed the staff was not willing to try and help either.” Oct 26, 2007 by
Kim from Cumming, GA
“Description says that the renovation is complete, which it is not. Lounge was closed breakfast was served in a cleared out room.” Oct 15, 2007 by
Karen from Penfield, NY
“Hotel is in process of renovation. It really isn't fair to rate it at this time.” Oct 2, 2007 by
Jessica from Eugene, OR
“Check in was great however there was an issue with the shuttle and the discrepancy with time pick ups. We were told several times the shuttle would be right there and then ended up waiting an hour at time, which was frustrating. Otherwise, the hotel was clean and comfortable.” Sep 29, 2007 by
Loretta from Alta, IA
“I liked the staff at the Hawthorne suites. They were very helpful and friendly. I think it will be really pretty when the lobby is completely renovated. Our room was very nicely renovated and had everything we needed to feel comfortable.” Sep 22, 2007 by
Pat from Woodstock, NY
“I originally booked a three day stay. But two days before I arrived, I added a night through your system, because my employer needed me to come to o.k. earlier. This got all screwed up at the hotel, and they said they only had a reservation for the one night I had added. It was eventually straightened out but It added stress at a time I didnt need It. Also It was unseasonably cold and they would not turn on the heat; I went and bought a portable heater for my room. I think someone owes me $35 for the heater.” Sep 22, 2007 by
Linda from Green Bank, NJ
“It was an excellent choice for a traveler on a budget, but a traveler who expects comfort and who knows or thinks she/he knows quality.” Sep 21, 2007 by
Steve F. from Sebastopol, CA
“Of the 9 hotels we used during vacation, this one rates 8th. It looks like somebody's revival project. Most of it is torn apart with construction. Heavy paint smells throughout. Very few guests. In an 'iffy' location with threatening looking people hanging around premises. Entire staff born in some other country (not that that is a negative but you should know). Breakfast buffet the worst we've ever seen. Stale bread and do-nuts, terrible juices, not even cold. Bacon (if thats what it was) like no other we've ever seen, had to toss it. Room had an old kitchen where faucet could barely be turned on. Cabinets scraped on refer top making them difficult to open. On the upside, maids were friendly and the shower and night-time ventilation (air conditioning) were great. All in all, would not go back nor recommend.” Jul 30, 2007 by
F from Columbus, OH
“I travel professionally, for the past 20 years. In a nutshell, here are the problems: 1.) I was given a key to someone else' room when I checked in. He was very shocked when I opened the door to what I thought was my room and found him. The guy at the front desk not only did not apologize for the mistake, he was obnoxious. Like somehow it was my fault. He sighed a lot and made a big deal about having to give me another room. Then, he gave me a smaller room. 2.) The smaller room had only 1 of 2 telephones working and had one non-working lamp. The stove did not work.” Jul 28, 2007 by
Marianne from Hernando, FL
“This hotel is currently undergoing renovation and when it is completed it will be great. Right now, put up with construction (only during 9-5) and reroutes. When it is completed, it will be great. Only real drawback is that the host suite for happy hour (free beer, wine, wings our night for two hours) and breakfast is the living of a suite, no place to sit. You must get it and take it back to the room. You do get a feel for what it will be like in the half completed lobby. I think our room was decorated, but still needed new furniture. Our room was on 5 and it was not noisy from the outside, but sound from hall carried too well. They also take dogs, which is appreciated those we didn't have ours. Mall is about 2 blocks away along sidewalks, they shuttle you to the metro, and are extremely helpful in any way they can be.” Jul 16, 2007 by
Manuel from Medina, OH
“The hotel was in the beginning stages of renovation, but this hotel at this time is not a 3-star hotel.” Jul 4, 2007 by
John from Santa Teresa, NM
“We did not use the fold out bed because it had some sort of critter (mouse?) droppings in it. Also there was mold in some of the rooms. Not recommended for families.” Jun 4, 2007 by
Fran from Goose Creek, SC
“We were very pleased with our stay at this hotel. It was convenient to the metro to commute into d.c. The pool area was very nice and they had a lifeguard on duty. The room was very roomy with a large living/dining area. King bedroom, large bath and full kitchen. The breakfast was very good. There was a social hour from 5:30 to 7:00 that featured a different food each night. One night we had hamburgers/hot dogs that they grilled outside by pool. One night there was burritos. The staff was all very helpful and friendly.” Jan 29, 2007 by
Joe from Manasquan, NJ
“I got a great price, well below government per diem, and did not expect much. I was pleased to find everything new or newly renovated, a great and free breakfast, and excellent views from my 7th floor window. Staff was professional and pleasant. I would stay there again.” 0 of 1 people found this review helpful.Oct 29, 2006 by

“The hotel was perfect for my needs that it was close to work. I think it would be great for families visiting on vacation especially for the price. You get exactly what you pay for. It is clean and convenient to the metro. It is also nice that you do not need to pay for parking. Most places I have stayed charged $25 or more.” 1 of 2 people found this review helpful.Oct 16, 2006 by

“Large, multi-room suite style rooms, with fairly full kitchens. Definitely geared towards business travel. Close to the highway, so easy access, but also highway noise. You cannot walk to destinations, so transportation is essential.” 0 of 1 people found this review helpful.May 20, 2006 by

“It was ok for a one night stay but I wouldn't pay that much money for a longer stay.” 0 of 1 people found this review helpful.Dec 12, 2005 by

“Think older Comfort Inn-level material quality that's what you'll get at Hawthorne Suites Alexandria. I liked the miniature kitchen, and the hotel's maid staff seemed to take pride in their work. However, the hotel is exactly what you'd expect from a place with $99 rack room rates on their website in the DC metro area - very average.” 0 of 1 people found this review helpful.Oct 17, 2005 by

“A good value at a reasonable price, spacious suites, clean, friendly staff, free hot breakfast and plenty of free parking. I would stay there again.” 1 of 2 people found this review helpful.Oct 16, 2005 by

“This property would appeal to travelers who want good value. Breakfast and dinner were included with the room. There were refrigerators in the room which would be convenient for families. There was a computer for guest use. The staff was friendly and helpful. This property would not appeal to people looking for an upscale hotel. The suites were not large by suite standards and the furnishings and carpeting were dated and showing wear. It is also isolated or removed from the action. It took 40-60 minutes to arrive at the tourist areas. It is not in a location so you can run back to the hotel for a nap or to pick up an umbrella. Also there are no restaurants or bars that are conveniently located in walking distance. It is fine for leaving in the morning, coming back in the evening and sleeping. It is not the type of place where you would hang around the pool and just enjoy the hotel lobby.” 1 of 2 people found this review helpful.Jun 20, 2005 by

“This hotel is good for family vacationing as they provide breakfast and "social hour" M-Thursday. The hotel is especially good if you have a car as you are very isolated with transportation as the Van Dorn metro is a couple of miles by highway from the hotel. Shuttles to the metro run from 6:30am-10:30am and resume from 4:30-9:00pm so you need to plan accordingly if you are visiting D.C. Our room had a kitchenette which was a nice addition.” 3 of 3 people found this review helpful.Jun 17, 2005 by

“The suite worked perfectly for our family. We enjoyed having a living room and full kitchen. The shuttle service to the metro was nice. We wish the shuttle had run later than 8 p.m.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.May 18, 2005 by

“ Although this hotel was acceptable, it was not the usual quality of other values we have experienced. The location was to far removed from Oldtown, the parking less than convienient, and the room we were assigned was situated next to the elevator and when we drew back the drapes we could not see out because our window view was fully obstructed by the Hawthorne sign - We were actually looking into the back of the sign. We also paid more for this 2 1/2 star hotel than we have for some 3 stars (location, location).” May 10, 2005 by
Shirley from Austin, TX
“I was disappointed with this hotel. Rooms were very small and old smelling. Just a general run down feel to the whole place. I certainly don't think it rates the 2 1/2 stars as advertised. Two cars got broken into one night during our stay. The only good thing I can say is the free breakfast was good.” May 10, 2005 by
Steve from Clemson, SC
“a good description from both directions to hotel in web site would be nice...we got lost coming in....could see the hotel from I 395 but could not fathom how to get there...locals could not help with directions...I think they were aliens just having arrived in America from mars...” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Apr 13, 2005 by

“Hotel management works hard to make up for inconvenient location and older facilities. New paint, nice staff, free food and drinks weekdays worked for me.” Apr 13, 2005 by
Marta from Herndon, VA
“I would not stay at this hotel ever again or refer anyone to it.” Apr 5, 2005 by
Lynda from Valparaiso, IN
“We were VERY comfortable. The location was excellent for getting in and out of Washington DC. It was very QUIET. Plenty of hot water. Free dinner served Monday through Thursday, and complementary breakfast every day. Our stay was very pleasant.” Mar 22, 2005 by

“The damn thing does not work to check your e-mail unless you use Yahoo mail. All other e-mail accounts are inaccessible. The staff was not accommodating when I needed to check my mail for business purposes. These facilities need an urgent face lift. The elevator is so small that you can't fully fit the luggage cart into it. A 2 star hotel, maybe. Not 2 1/2 or more under any circumstance.” Mar 22, 2005 by
Peter
“The rooms was large and comfortable, it was clean. Hawthorne suites has a good product but the Alexandria building is too old and furniture is out dated.” Mar 21, 2005 by
Laurie from Poquoson, VA
“The staff was very helpful and friendly. I was disappointed with the condition of bathrooms and the parking situation. The location was very convenient.” Mar 13, 2005 by

“Overall great hotel for the money. The suite was very large with very comfortable bed.” Feb 21, 2005 by

“My experience was well worth the amount that I paid. There was a hot breakfast and dinner buffet with complementary beer and wine. It was wonderful coming back after a long day to relax and dine with other people who were on business.” Jan 27, 2005 by
Horace from Bailey, NC
“Hawthorn Suites Hotel in Alexandria provided my family with a very pleasant stay while in the Washington area. Breakfast was very acceptable each morning and a complimentary dinner is served in the dining room weeknights if we chose to take advantage of it. The outdoor temperature was quite cold during our stay, but experienced no problems with heat inside.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Jan 26, 2005 by

“The hotel staff was wonderful, and always smiled when anyone approached them. They offer rides to the Metro which is wonderful for the visitors. Their food was also quite good. The staff was also great with my three children.” 1 of 1 people found this review helpful.Jan 24, 2005 by
Gwen from Ft. Mill, SC “What a nice treat it was that they served a small dinner nightly (incl. in rate)..We were in a hurry on 2 occasions to get to other events & that made. ” Oct 5, 2004 by
Lehman K. from Dallas, GA “The general appearance of the hotel was one that made us feel it was an old place just made over to look better. It felt cheap from first appearance and our kitchen had mildew around the ceiling. The meals served were always lacking any kind of bread and a desert. The shuttle service back and forth to the metro train was very good and the staff were friendly.” Sep 17, 2004 by
“This hotel doesn't have a restaurant onsite.”
